Great video and great insight. I'm not an audio guy but it's great to know this info. I wanted a limited but it's not for another 2 years and the dealership had a sel awd long range coming in probably next week that someone canceled so hope to get it soon!! Can't wait for thr next video
There are many more features of the limited that would warrant an upgrade from my SEL. The sound system is just one of them. Having the outlet in the car, the HUD, glass roof, surround view camera, door shades etc. are just as important. I am not a fan of the silver trim on the exterior of the limited. If I were to upgrade I would personally have them painted black like the SEL
@@4thdistrict476 forum in Canada… I saw they’ve been having issues with it breaking so Hyundai stopped adding that feature. If I am wrong then I am wrong…
I forget where I saw it but with the Limited Trim people have been saying the amp that comes with the limited trim is a bit underpowered, but once you swap it out you can get a lot more out of the Bose speakers the car comes with.
Hyundai re-purchased my 2022 SEL after being in the shop for 2 months. I used their refund, plus the federal and state rebates totaling to $10,000, to upgrade to a 2023 Limited. You can definitely hear the difference in the sound systems. But your right that alone would not have convinced me to upgrade. All the other extras such as the electrical outlet in the car, the HUD, glass roof, bird's eye view camera, door shades, cooled seats, etc. that make the upgrade worth it.
Cant forget the tail and front lights and that the Limited is the only one that kept those from 2022. I really like them and think it's silly they didnt keep them on the other trims
I think the Ioniq 6 is maybe better as I found my Ioniq 5 limited equivalent in Canada missing mid to high range, without having the windsheild pillar tweeters as the Ioniq 6 has. My 2020 Soul EV has Harmon Kardon with tweeters above the left and right air vents really does sound better in the mid to high range. Not too impressed with Ioniq 5 Limited Bose Sound system.
The audio upgrade would have been the only thing I would have benefited from the top trim option (here, called "Ultimate"). I just thought it was not worth 6k.
Thank you for doing this test, I'm in the market for a used IONIQ 5, but please can someone tell me if the band for he SEL TRIM in 2022 was also BOSE? or is some other inferior brand ? it's actually hard to find that simple fact on the internet:
Thanks for this test! What volume were you testing at? I’ve been enjoying the sound settings from an audio engineer post on the IONIQ5 subreddit, but find I have to turn up the volume pretty high. Will have to try your settings too!
Honestly if I will compare my 2023 Limited to my old BMW with premium sound, my BMW is way lot better even my Beamer does not have a sub woofer! But it is what it is…
it's crazy that in the UK you can get a BMW i4 for the same price as the "ultimate" trim of the Ioniq 5 (which I believe is the equivalent of the limited in the US) and that has a 16 speaker Harmon Kardon system that is by far the best in this price bracket, and obviously the EV6 blows this out of the water as well. Why did Hyundai cheap out here? seems such an odd decision for one of the best EV's on the market in every other way.
Does I5 limited comes with immobilizer? Google sent me article today. Korean car manufacturers have high risk for car stolen and somehow affected owners' insurance.
I like my ionic 5 sel but sound system is complete garbage. My 2022 toyota Sienna le base trim sounds better than in ionic . I was looking to upgrade but seems to be cumbersome . Basically only disappointing issue with ionic 5 sel is bad sound system .
I test drove the limited and the sound quality was one of the things that made me not buy it. I feel like it's fine but for that price I would expect better quality.
SE, SEL or Limited, Hyundai sound systems are just garbage. I decided to go with an aftermarket upgrade: add a sub/amp, swap the tweeters, add a central channel (my car is SE) and voilà: night and day!
Audio tests on YOuTube aren't worth it; TH-cam compress all of our videos including the audio portion. Plus, is your mic even designed to pick up the frequency ranges? Is the mic biased? It's just your opinion that is worth while, the audio clips aren't.
For what this is worth, I am admittedly an audiophile snob 😉 and a audio blogger. I think that the car manufacturers put Bose stereos in their vehicles in part because it’s a brand that’s heavily marketed to the general consumer so it has some cachet. But in the audiophile universe Bose is generally considered overpriced junk. “No highs, no lows, it must be Bose.” It’s a particularly unfortunate choice on Hyundai’s part because the Ioniq 5 is SO quiet inside that you’d actually be able to enjoy a good music system without a lot of road and wind noise!!😢
I ran across this video on upgrading the amp on the limited. I think I'm going to do it as the limited isnt that great. th-cam.com/video/4iwibYl4KWc/w-d-xo.html&lc=UgwJxNXAyfafN-LfOux4AaABAg.9nwXAuN7tZE9nwmowzbL8G

I don't know if you noticed, but the October update boosted the sound quality significantly. Now on par with the Audi Q5 PP sound system.
This is honestly one of my main reasons for wanting a limited. I have a Bose system in my 2015 Mazda3 and I LOVE it. It sounds great here!
I seriously doubt Bose manufactures anything these days. Is it better than the Kona EV's stereo. Is this Bose good? Debatable.
Off topic, but the Bose system in the 2022 Mazda3 is really impressive.

I didn’t think it was that much of a difference - listening on headphones. Surprisingly good bass output in the SEL

Can you put the tire/rim combo on the limited on an SE or SEL? I don't like the look of the other rims.
Yes The overall tire diameter is the same
Be aware your range will drop 10%
@Timothy I Thanks I had no idea. That's going to be a deal breaker.
@@johnathoncastro It is the same with Tesla. There is a grip/range trade off. There is a video where Hyundai's chief engineer explains why somewhere.

Yes, the only cars that don’t have imobilizers are the cheapest trims that still use a keyed ignition

Totally. Why does the EV6 get 14 speakers at a lower price while also being very similarly specd otherwise
But I found some of the other new ev's have disappointing stereo systems as well. Test driven EV6 and Mach-E as well.

The only problem I have is you have to turn it up to 40 to start hearing the radio
It’s pretty dumb the way it’s set up. Maybe I’m harder of hearing than most but like you I can barely hear anything at those levels
