The guy giving a precious pendant to his lover much reminds me of people going to military and giving their tags to those they love, as if it's their "hearts" and they'll come back to retrieve it. Or if they unfortunately can't go back then the lovers will keep it for them for eternity. Simple, yet a very meaningful gesture
