Their chemistry is of the charts and the only reason we didn't get alot of Barrow and Branson scenes is, because the world wouldn't be able to handle their power. (And because Allen and Rob joked around too much 🥴)

Thomas is the character you love to hate and hate to love. He’s his own worst enemy, yet you can’t not kinda root for him.
Agreed. He and Edith are very cathartic and have unexpectedly become some of my favorite characters because of where their flaws and "villainy" come from. As much as they're bullies, they're also victims in a way. Thomas' situation as a gay man in early XXth england and Edith being the forgotten child, the ugly duck of the family, their insecurities and trauma is deeply relatable and seeing them starting off on the wrong path but ultimately evolving and healing is super satisfying.

I wish these guys devolped and actual friendship on screen as well. It would have been so interesting to see Tom and Thomas bonding over a shared love for Sibby and her mother. And Branson actualy having a proper friendship downstairs to show he isn't giving up his roots and he CAN actualy move between floors without anyone being annoying about it would be great. I also just want Barrow to have actual friends more now. And I prefer for it to be somebody that actualy knows Barrow's less charming side. Not a new face. To show character devolpment. Anna and Mary will never count as a real friendship to me as the class will always stay in the way for that. Which I feel Tom can actualy bypass.
I couldn't have said it better, well said OP! 👏👏 I am still hoping for at least one interaction between them in the next movie, or a nod that they are in fact friends. Just a crumb. (I am probably a but biased because I ship Branrow HARD).

@@bookhills2704 that was actually another waisted oportunity on the series. I wished we could have see more conversations between Robert and Bates regarding important issues, showing how their class differences affected their views in said issues.

Collier is so much more attractive when he's not inhabiting the character of Barrow (and testament to how much he is acting in the role). Leech is is just plain adorable, period -- as is their mutual lack of toxic masculinity.
He's a good actor alright!! Barrow was a fiend sometimes 😂 I'm surprised Collier hasn't been in other movies I know of
@@PichuElric : Barrow is a remarkable character -- he could have easily slipped into the old stereotype of the malevolent gay villain, but he was far more well-rounded, enigmatic, and ultimately sympathetic than that.
@@PhillyFrank1 I agree with that completely! I did say he was a fiend 'sometimes,' as in, the first two seasons he was unbearable but so interesting because he served the drama, but afterwards I did come to love him for things other than just being a pot-stirrer

It was really a shame that their characters didn't share more time toghether to make more use of their natural chemestry. It would have been interesting to see Tom being Thomas' only genuine friendship downstairs (as his relation to O'Brien seemed less of a true friendship and more about mutual interest). I could even see Tom scolding him for his schemes and misbehaviours, the same way he scolded Mary when she reveald Marigold was Edith's daughter. On the other hand, their conversations could have normaly had a more light tone than the ones between Thomas and O'Brien.
Well, Thomas does gain friends in the end, like Sybil and Baxter. I agree the producers should have made use of the the actors' real life chemistry but I can't think of a way Tom and Thomas would have ever interacted since he never fixed up with Bates, even with Sybil around

the show messed up not showing barrow's friendship with sybil more and they messed up not making barrow and branson friends after her death
They did mess up! That was such a missed opportunity, and I always like to imagine that in another universe, they became pals and had a friendship like Rob and Allen’s :-)

This is not the first time I've watched Dow nton Abbey. Thomas's role may be a negative one, but I just can't hate him. A man who captivated me with his beauty right into my heart. At some point, it’s a pity for him that he’s not like everyone else and they take advantage of this in order to hurt him, to rein him in, to warn everyone about him, one becomes very sorry for him.
I would like to see at the end of the film how Thomas finds his love and would be happy. Yes, in Russia such relationships are not welcome, but I am for people to be happy no matter how.
The series itself simply magnificent. I generally adore British films about historical castles, the lives of maids, They look in one go. Thanks to all the actors and creators for their excellent work, to the delight of the audience.
