- I have no excuse other than the fact that I love him and that he is my favourite downton character.
I wanted to try my hand at a bit of video editing and this is what came out. I am in no way a great editor and barely got this video out. It's just for funsies and very self-indulgent.

Oh my gosh, I had the same thought ever since they showed Thomas loved the kids a lot, and the kids loved him back! I know he still doesn't look like he likes the Crawleys, but that's because his loyalty lies with George and Sybbie, not Mary and the adults who don't like him back

The thing about Thomas is that he can be hard to like, but he's *impossible* to hate.

I mean, you CAN, like you're ALLOWED TO, but I just think that if you really immerse yourself in the story and study his character and why he is the way he is... once you understand him, you can't hate him. Like I said, you might not LIKE him, but there are likable things about him.
I hated him. He was horrible and nasty, often with no reason, just for the pleasure of it. He and O'Brien were true horrors. His change in the later seasons was not credible
Barrow’s best line is clearly when Bates mentions giving his left arm for Anna to be released from prison. Barrow: “I don’t think that would be sensible, we can’t have you wobbly at both ends *snaps rifle into place*”
I burst out laughing everytime I see that scene, especially since Bates kinda glares in the background 😂

Thank you. I was a fan of Barrow from the first episode, lol. He's such a sassy, snobby, scheming, but also sensitive, caring, brave, and complex character. He's quite handsome too. I love this!
He is a complex character and - to quote Rob James Collier himself very much "misunderstood!"

I love how Thomas was such a dick in the first season, and then by the time we got to Nanny West we were just rooting for him to ruin her. Say what you will about him with everyone else, but he always protects those kids.
100% he was an ass to nearly everyone but he loved those kids more than life
Exactly. It wasn’t possible to see his first meeting George because of the 6 month time jump between seasons 3 and 4, but I would’ve LOVED to see a scene after Sybil’s death where Thomas held baby Sybbie and whispered a promise to Sybil that he would guard and protect Sybbie with his life in gratitude for Sybil’s kindness to him. He wasn’t as close with Matthew, but Matthew was also polite and kind to him in the trenches… I’m sure he also vowed to Matthew at his funeral that he’d always protect George.

Weird how he was so good with the kids. Hated every adult he didn't fancy, but loved the kids.
Thomas thinks that everyone has an agenda and is opposed to him (probably because of bad experiencesin the past), whether that is actually true or not.
The children are "innocent"; they don't know of the things he's done or that he's gay and don't hold these things against him.
It's not weird, it's the same reason some people love animals but otherwise seem very hateful to others

For anyone who wonders why Thomas is the way he is with the adults, look no further than Carson calling him foul. That was the general opinion about homosexuals and homosexuality at the time, not to mention the risk of arrest. Oscar Wilde was sentenced to two years of Hard Labour because he was homosexual. Most people who know of Thomas' orientation would treat him as a pariah. That does tend to make one rather bitter. It is only after he starts being treated with understanding that he is able to allow people closer to him. Part of the nasty was to keep people at a distance so they would be less likely to figure out who he was attracted to.
He probably was starting to regret pushing the adults around him away and feeling so lonely as a result (which he says later, he had only himself to blame for being lonely because he never gave anyone a reason to like him). So he wanted to immediately make a good impression on the kids. Also, he shows a lot of the behavioral tendencies of someone who was abused as a child, so, especially knowing Sybbie had no mother and George had no father, he wanted to be sure the children never felt neglected or unloved for a moment.

He is my favorite because he has the most depth of all the characters. He isnt always good, and isnt always bad, and he learns, and matures, and grows.
I just finally finished this series (thank you USA Netflix.) and honestly the character development in Thomas is amazing. I hated him the first season but by the end he was my favorite. And his snark is the best.
His development is really good in my opinion and he managed to steal all our hearts!
If you Loved the series, then you gotta watch the movie. The sequel is due out either in December 2021 or in Spring 2022. 🤞🏾

i loved his character arc so much, he just needed people to be kind to him
He needed to be sure the people around him were not about to report him to the police if/when they learned of his homosexuality. Two years hard labour, not to mention dismissal without a character, would mean no future at all. He would be a totally unemployable pariah.
What alignement would Barrow be. I'd imagine he starts as a Lawful Evil character and slowly drifts into Neutral Evil then True Neutral then Neutral Good?
I think that alignement sounds about right. I want to say he ends up as chaotic good, but chaotic doesn't seem to fit Thomas heh

He is one of my favorite characters because of his extreme vulnerability. Yeah but early in the series he really irked me. I love how this character developed.
Watching Downton I had doubts about Thomas until he saved Edith. He just wants to be loved, and his misbehavior in the beginning was just that
He probably hoped for a while that O’Brien actually cared for him but then he realized the truth when she tried to toss him to the wolves in season 3. Good riddance to her for getting the heck out of his life.
He makes me laugh when he insults people with a smile, like when he tells nanny West, "do it yourself why don't ya", then smiles and tips his hat to her. LOL
My favorite moment was when Daisy sabotaged the food and didn't get to put the stuff in the next meal. Thomas quips "Well at least we would've all been regular."
Rob james collier is just the most wholesome man in the world i love him on downtown and ackley bridge and hes even my lock screen on my phone hes that gorgeous 😂😭
