Not ONLY did he whip up his own tabard from epoxy, and not ONLY did he freehand a half-and-half paint scheme, BUT THEN... the absolute mad lad *FREEHANDS* Dark Angel wings in a half-and-half paint scheme as well?! Trovarion just told me I suck at painting in like 10 different ways! 🤣🤣🤣 Gorgeous work!
Wow this knight is absolutely fantastic. It captures the vibe of the old artwork, this grim bizarre gothic world, over the top and silly at the same time. Like straight from a comic book.
He looks like a freakin' altar that stood up and walked out of the cathedral to purge. I can't express how incredible this is, if all space marines miniatures looked like this I would only paint SM. Also nice thumbnail you sleek borrower!
This is possibly the best video and template you have ever produced. The story problem(what happened and why you need to return it to glory)script(how you do that and with what), the production(the selective and abbreviated video pictured content, music and voice over), the call to action for us to attain more knowledge within your Patreon, the gift(discount codes), and the resolution(return to DA Glory) with your finished mini that meets your expectation and ours. I do not have enough words to explain all the effort, thinking , knowledge, and time you put into this! Wow have you grown!! Thank you for allowing me to see a small part of this journey of yours through the key hole of TH-cam😃. No matter what the algorithm does this, this has everything to set you apart in content creation in my opinion! Fantastic job! Cheers to you and all the best!!! Oh and I am a big DA fan from the 80'"!so! lol
the wax bases for the candles was seriously creative and awesome. Im 39 and have been into 40k since the early 90s. Its wild to see how far this hobby has come. From just the youtube videos and 3d printing, its just crazy to me. CHeers T
Absolutely beautiful paint job. My favorite part was your interpretation of the power sword and how you made its complex tones work together. Definitely one of my favorite projects of yours, well done!
I just found your channel last night, my wife and I were looking for something random to watch while eating dinner. We really enjoyed the "rate-a-commission" video! 😅 I absolutely love the way this turned out, I just got into Warhammer about 6 months ago but have been a long time DnD enthusiast - it was SOMEWHAT mind blowing to learn that you don't just go all out on 1 model, but an entire army - I digress. My very first Warhammer model was a conversion of my own (because I thought I was making my champion, and he always will be...). I feel like it turned out pretty damn close to yours (minus the base dirt, some pro-highlighting, and my candles lack flames), which gives me a big boost of confidence. Thank you for showing your idea of what it should look like! I completely agree that the models tend to not quite match the concept arts. PS - You forgot to add purity seals, I expect a part 2. 😉
i really like the books and candles. sometimes models just have things on them to get a general vibe but get all muddled visually since it doesnt quite have a clear theme. but i think with the candles and books specifically, it really does get at that preoccupation with esoteric knowledge and secretes that really distinguishes the dark angels as a specific instead of a generic chapter.
This miniature is off the charts. He used a bright palette so you can see every little detail. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 What does a custom painted mini like this sell for??
Honestly, you’ve managed to say EVERYÞING I’d wondered about for a while now. ‘Tis starting to feel like þe Space Marines are becoming more uniform, so obsessed wiþ giving us a blank template to start from þat þey give us less and less to work wiþ. I LOVE what you’ve done wiþ þese Dark Angels! I wish I had a 3D printer so I could buy some of þese myself!
Awesome video - One of your best. Wish you had the time to give the paintjob your best but converting, printing, sculpting and painting in one video - What an accomplishment amazing. The underlying theme is 100% on point as well.
This video came out at just the right time. Doing some candles on a 'Moonstone' model and you've come up trumps with the sheer quantity (not excessive in any way at all😂) beautifully painted. My thanks.
Damn near perfect timing on this one, yesterday I started printing some GreyTide bits for my Deathwing and Grey Knight terminators, seeing this painted has me even more excited to finish them. This also reminded me that I can sculpt tabards over the pushfit termi chests which I have been stuck on for the past week, plus I love the idea of having over the top candles, might have to stick that on a few of them.
Always love seeing a notification and you sharing a more advanced painting process in high detail but easy to follow. Its weird. One of the reasons Ive been looking forward to TOW and the return of some classic sculpts is because modern minis seem to have so much fiddly detail that it makes them annoying for me to paint. But at the same time, Ive never really loved Primaris because they look to plain and modern. I want the baroque 40k look i grew up with. Not really sure how to reconcile those.
Yes, yes, yes, finally a Dark Angel model that fits the lore. Thats why Trovarion is the GOAT in my book. And yes please more. Pretty please a cataphracii deathwing terminator. Because lore wise the Dark Angel have the most cataphracii power armor of all chapters still in service. And I haven't seen one before. Love your work
When you were talking about the power sword I personally do mine in a red ink after going over the blade in shades of black white and gray lines and then I go over it that with a hot pink lightning bolt pattern in certain parts because some lightning is orange and pink and some is red But I absolutely love the helmet on this guy
Such a nice take on the dark angels death wing color scheme once again. I still have mine to paint and to be honest the traditional colors are not that appealing to me but you show here how much more interesting it can be! Thank you for taking the time to create and share your top quality work!
Niiice Trovarion :D I was thinking about a twist on this: "DOING everything wrong to a Black Templar" and you turn a black templar into a full blown librarian or wizard or something. (I saw that steve from vanguard tactics was running a librarian in his black templar list that ran around smiting people, they refer to him in terms like "the.. guy who likes to read" to avoid acknowledging the heresy), I'm sure you could come up with a better idea but just thought I would mention. Always happy to see your videos!
I think what you did better compared to your other videos is that you didn't show the mini at the start - this keeps us, the audience, excitedly waiting, improving our experience as well as the watchtime.
I am coincidentally painting one of old Deathwing Knights as I watch this. This style and feel is exactly how the Deathwing are meant to be. I think leaning into the warmer colours for the bone armour makes such a difference!
I like the new Deathwing knights but the old Deathwing kit has more Dark Angel specific stuff on them. Sometimes i add more chapter specific things on them depending on their rank. Lower ranked ones get less and higher get more.
Pretty amazing paint job. I love the way that you casually mix higher level lighting techniques with more basic brush techniques to achieve something that's both refined but not necessarily going to take a million years to finish. FYI your end slides don't match up with the voice line saying watch these videos on the screen, they pop up a fair bit later.
I don‘t know if you changed anything but this camera setup is miles better than the previous ones. Somehow you got rid of that weird blue tint in your older videos, also it helps much more with the paintstyle. This looks like something from your eavier‘ than metal series, but in even better quality!
Personally I'd try to invoke medieval knight heraldry. Inspiration source: Imperial Knights and Bretonnians. For normal squaddies a fairly simple shoulder pad with Heraldry quartered with the DA symbol. Or those small jousting shields on a pauldron. Or perhaps a leg part etc etc. Make the heraldry more involved for Sgt's. For officers start to add more area and start to add heraldry indicating special knowledge, judgement etc. Grails, candles, books, scales etc etc.
I had the same motivations for enjoying 40k. Kitbashing and conversions arenmy favourite thing to do and this nails it. The left shoulder pad is something i would have killed for at 14
WOW ! What a great gothic feeling as making figures more enjoyable has escaped GW and the last 40k Chapter forge world achieved was the two Red Scorpions comander with his trusted banner carrier followed by that red scorpions dreadnaught plus the first lord of said chapter in terminator armour. Then forge world did the Jet pack wearing figure with such original sculptures on a figure a long time ago !
This is awesome. I'd definitely be interested in a series of ways to convert 40k to make it look more interesting, then painting. This was a really nice balance of Kitbash + painting. Mixed with your desire to get the tone more gritty or grim dark, they would be amazing to watch.
I will do more conversion videos, a lot of people have said they would watch that even if they are not painted. And I'll admit, sometimes the kitbash is more fun than painting it afterwards!
Not ONLY did he whip up his own tabard from epoxy, and not ONLY did he freehand a half-and-half paint scheme, BUT THEN... the absolute mad lad *FREEHANDS* Dark Angel wings in a half-and-half paint scheme as well?! Trovarion trying to get the S+ on squidmar’s tierlist
And here you were faster than me…😂
The exact same thought crossed my mind seeing the thumbnail. Lol.
I think he nailed it
Nobody cares about squidmar and his list..
We need the white circle tho
@@Capamaru78 its just a friendly joke
this is probably my favorite miniature ever painted.
Wow this knight is absolutely fantastic. It captures the vibe of the old artwork, this grim bizarre gothic world, over the top and silly at the same time. Like straight from a comic book.

so... a black templar?

"I just had to copy it to the other side" ... You damn Poser with your perfect symmetry :P
"Brother, that cursed green skin blew out my candles. Would you relight them for me?"
“Brother hold still! My flamer will do more than light up just your candles if you do not stop FIDGETING!”
the wax bases for the candles was seriously creative and awesome. Im 39 and have been into 40k since the early 90s. Its wild to see how far this hobby has come. From just the youtube videos and 3d printing, its just crazy to me. CHeers T
6:00 Terry Prattchet would be pleased with all the dribbly bits round the candles 😊
I paint deathwing since the late '90s and this is probably the best take of a deathwing model i have ever seen. Wonderful work!
Love this conversion. I normally hate conversion videos but your whole storytelling, fabrication and painting landed it!
"Dark Angels are the posterboys"
*Listens with great satisfaction to the weeping Ultramarine in the corner*
Its time Ultraboys did some work.
Absolutely beautiful paint job. My favorite part was your interpretation of the power sword and how you made its complex tones work together. Definitely one of my favorite projects of yours, well done!
Absolutely insane, you absolutely nailed the feel of the art work 100%
I just found your channel last night, my wife and I were looking for something random to watch while eating dinner. We really enjoyed the "rate-a-commission" video! 😅

Your Dark Angels videos are the best! The "over the top" gothic aesthetic you're going for is fantastic would love to see more!
This is one of, if not THE, coolest conversion I have ever seen - amaaaazing!!
Truly epic. Really makes it feel like a Dark Angel with those candles and skulls. Love that gothic look like you mentioned in the video.
Such a phenomenally talented artist. This channel is so much fun. Thanks for all the content!
Such beautiful paintwork and conversion, absolutely inspirational!
Such a good model man. The added 'over the top' elements are so badass, and the paint job is veeeeery nice.

Amazing piece! The blade of the sword made me cry a little... beautiful!! 😮

lol the candles are TRULY over the top. Amazingly painted.
Love this! only thing is... there's nothing wrong with Dark angels in the first place! :D
That blade is the best I've seen in a long while! And I love how it echoes the Dark Angels lore.
Awesome video - One of your best. Wish you had the time to give the paintjob your best but converting, printing, sculpting and painting in one video - What an accomplishment amazing. The underlying theme is 100% on point as well.
Great work. Thanks for sharing your techniques. I think those were rhetorical most convincing candles I have seen.
You really did a great job of showing off what a huge impact a few, well chosen bits can have on a model!
my jaw dropped once I saw the sculpting of the candle wax.
BONKERS. detail and skill.
Great video. So much knowledge and ideas presented. Thank you so much for the great work you did!
That is a phenomenal Dark Angel. This mini really captures that over-the-top gothic look. Masterpiece!

I love the modeling of the candles' wax base. Amazing 💚
When you were talking about the power sword I personally do mine in a red ink after going over the blade in shades of black white and gray lines and then I go over it that with a hot pink lightning bolt pattern in certain parts because some lightning is orange and pink and some is red
But I absolutely love the helmet on this guy
The sword is my favorite element you painted on this. Love the color palette you chose and really want to try it for myself.
Wow, that miniature looks incredible. Great work!
Just amazing - I'd love to be able to see colours the way you do. That sword is epic.
🤩Awesome! That's just stunning! 11/10 for concept and execution.
I love the creativity of the conversions. John Blanche would be proud to display this in his living room. Thank you for another great video.
I would watch a 20 minute video just documenting the process of that relic weapon in detail. Beautiful.
Amazing and beautiful. You are one the masters of the craft. Loved the video. Thanks
Such a nice take on the dark angels death wing color scheme once again. I still have mine to paint and to be honest the traditional colors are not that appealing to me but you show here how much more interesting it can be!

Came out great. I especially enjoyed how the light was handled
Those Helmet STLs are perfect.
those metallics are genuinely mind blowing
Man that looks so good! Such a cool composition!
That conversion looks absolutely incredible! 😯🤩
All those candles... I just want my Iron Warriors to get close, blow them out, and make a wish! :D
That sword looks out of this world! Great job!
So many good tips and ideas here! Lovely work.
This is why I like my 3d printer for my DA army. So many great files out there.
Like everyone else, I am absolutely AMAZED at the freehand skills on display here.
That's the most beauiful power sword I've ever seen! Love the mysterious hue
Niiice Trovarion :D I was thinking about a twist on this: "DOING everything wrong to a Black Templar" and you turn a black templar into a full blown librarian or wizard or something. Haha...That's funny
Well, I was going to pick up some grey tide studios bits for some time now, but now having the ability to support you as well, it's a no brainer!
I started laughing so hard as the candle idea grew legs and started running. Absolutely awesome.
I love this! Should turn it into a series!
I think what you did better compared to your other videos is that you didn't show the mini at the start - this keeps us, the audience, excitedly waiting, improving our experience as well as the watchtime.
Amazing! Both conversion and paintjob!
Looks like a mix between a Dark Angel and a Grey Knight, awesome!
Awesome work. This is the kind of aesthetic/detail that i consider 40k to truly be.
Being new in this hobby, seeing a video like this is equally hyping/discouraging me massively. This paint result is just mind blowing
That relic blade looks awesome. Great job.
Possibly the most brilliantly unhinged paintjob I've ever seen on yt. Outstanding.
Great result! I especially like how the sword turned out. Only thing that I think clashes a little is the fluor green of the eye's.
Cool! Gonna check this out! Working on a similar project for a diy space hulk project
I am coincidentally painting one of old Deathwing Knights as I watch this. This style and feel is exactly how the Deathwing are meant to be. I think leaning into the warmer colours for the bone armour makes such a difference!
Loved this video bro amazing work as always👍
awesome work, looks suitably brooding!
Late to the part here, but this was great! Would love to see your take on a regular greenwing Dark Angel 🙏
damn this is so sick! love the design on that helmet, looks awesome :D
This is just gorgeous. Thanks for sharing!
I like the new Deathwing knights but the old Deathwing kit has more Dark Angel specific stuff on them.
Sometimes i add more chapter specific things on them depending on their rank.
Lower ranked ones get less and higher get more.
Great video i can only dream of getting anywhere close to your nmm skill , awesome build thanks for sharing .
That’s the coolest dark angel I’ve ever seen, in fact I’m not a huge fan but if they looked like this I would definitely want to paint some 😎👌
Pretty amazing paint job. I love the way that you casually mix higher level lighting techniques with more basic brush techniques to achieve something that's both refined but not necessarily going to take a million years to finish.
FYI your end slides don't match up with the voice line saying watch these videos on the screen, they pop up a fair bit later.
Thanks, yeah...there is a time limit to the end screens and i said it outside of that frame. Didn't want to rerender/reupload just for that 🫣
@@trovarion Ah yeah I see, just barely missed that 20 second maximum time. Oh well.

Amazing work. The candles on the top come from which set? Please, could you help me, to find them?
Super creative and lore focus i make a good discover with this channel

Love Greytide. I backed their first kickstarter and they really delivered
They are such a fantastic bunch of nice people too! ❤️
Nice kitbashing/painting. Thx for sharing ;)
Awesome work, dude! Looks super unique.
Dude put more effort into 1 miniature than my whole 2k point army lol
Absolutely stunning!
I can't get over how badass the sword's paint job is.

Here all day for this. Will look for some ready printed bits to make my Leviathan box sing Black Templar
Astonishing, you smashed it!
Holy hell that’s fire man!
Aaand now I want to collect a small dark angels force 😳👌
This is beautiful. I hope one day I can be half the painter you are
