Thanks for this info! I'm in recovery from an ED and it's hurtful/harmful when I keep hearing calories in/calories out from society. I've recently found a doctor that has determined my thyroid is low functioning (not low enough for a hypo diagnosis), which may be the reason why weight has gone up over the past years without bingeing/overeating. It's been a struggle to accept my body and I keep feeling like I'm doing something wrong, even though my treatment team assures me I'm doing the right things.

It can be such a damaging message and make you feel like you are doing something "wrong". Listen to your treatment team when they say you are doing the right things!

Thank you for this information... Does this mean that a weight loss plan should focus mainly on increasing metabolic rate? And if yes could you please do a video for tips on how to that

If the metabolic rate is low in the beginning, yes the first thing to work on is increasing that. This typically involves eating more in the beginning to get the metabolic rate to come up.

I’m 64, obese and have Hashimoto’s. 3.7 years ago I changed my lifestyle by walking daily, cutting portions, high caloric meals and have lost nearly 100lbs. I’ve now added strength training while continuing to eat sensibly, not dieting or counting calories, just trying to be aware of my food intake. I’d love to know my BMR but can’t find a dietician who does this in my area.

Keep up the good work! It sounds like you made good sustainable changes. Yes, unfortunately metabolic testing isn't super common in the outpatient setting.
