My sister made it to the end of this game but when she went to face scar she glitched the game. When scar jumped on simba and she was able to pull him off, simba was stuck in animation. She nearly beat the game that day, but gave up Eventually she was able to beat the game, and now she can go through the game without losing a life. 😄
I love the feeling of having a full game memorised like that! You just feel like the flash running through it all with no mistakes 😎 I was there with a Bomber Man game for Game Boy Color after yeears of playing the same 2 games on that console 😅 The Wario World I had was a little more advanced so I never completed that one, but I sure tried! Thinking The Completionist hits himself for the few amounts of deaths he had in this game before completing it I honestly just feel stupid for not being able to complete a Game Boy-game, playing it for yeears xD

That "make it as hard as possible" philisophy was a double edged sword. I remember playing that game and saying "fuck it" after that blockbuster rental time. It was with masterpieces that DKC or Zelda that I wanted to buy the game after the rental was done.

DestructableMe If you actually look deeper in to that you’ll see that the Lion King was supposed to be a Kimba the White Lion Reboot, which explains why they have similar plot lines. You can also see concept art of Simba as a white cub
One of the things I can still feel watching this is the phantom of my muscles when Simba pulls himself up or swings on the bones. That's how into it you were playing it - those were your muscles going forward!
This was one of my favorite games as a kid despite not being able to get past the Wildebeest stage. I revisited it as a late teen and it felt so good finally getting to pimp slap my enemies with older Simba.
I beat this game as a kid. I didn't stand out in my mind as any harder than other games I played at the time, although I do remember struggling against Scar. Having said that, watching this video has brought back many memories of me rage quiting many times as a kid.
No game can be as hard than the likes of Ghosts N' Goblins on the NES & Binding of Isaac which I don't recommend completing to 1,000,000% yeah, that's the actual max completion. Great review & its because of these videos that inspired me to try & complete games to 100%.
This was my very first video game, got it for Christmas alongside a Sega Genesis in 1994. Farthest I made it as a kid was the Hakuna Matata level, never could get passed that waterfall section back then. Went back and beat the whole game a few years ago, though I did use the level select cheat code to pull it off I admit, skipping straight to the level I died on instead of replaying all earlier levels.
The Gameboy Color version of this was AMAZING! It was the reason I ended up getting a Gameboy because I begged my parents for it. Doesn’t just stop with defeating Scar, you go into the second movie and fight Zira too!!
The waterfall part is piss-easy once you figure out the pattern. There's a single row (near the middle) where logs repeat in 2 sets: set 1 you can jump directly up onto the next log, set 2 it's too far so you jump to any other log first and then back to the same row. Rinse and repeat, you'll never die there again. Could explain all the other tricks too but a Lion does not concern himself with the opinions of the sheep...
I cannot believe you actually beat this game. I could only get as far as the Elephant Graveyard in the Sega version when I was a kid, and that was IT! UGH!!! THANK you for conquering this horrid beast of a game and returning peace to Pride Rock
Wow. I could never get past the final level, as you said, I had no idea I could throw an enemy. I would just fight him endlessly over and over, re-starting the game over and over just to get to that point and thinking I didn't get in enough hits when what I really had to do was use a special technique the game never told me about.
So the game may be pretty, visually and technologically spectacular, but is very flawed in almost every aspect beyond the superficial, huh? Sounds familiar.
Nothing but nostalgia watching this. Everything you said is how I felt as a kid. Trying to beat this game, took me 5 years on and off. I curse that lava level... My older cousin legit congratulated me because he knew this game was a monster to beat. It took me close to 30 minutes to beat Scar because I didn't have the manual for the controls, and didn't know you could throw him. I think I randomly did it and thought "HOW DID I DO THAT?!?" and tried every button combo until I did it again.
You can actually roll into the logs the gorilla tosses at you and strike him back with them. A little fun game hint.😊 Edit: Also- along with the lounge throw attack, when you're adult Simba. You can also jump and drop onto enemies and maul them with your claws by striking the attack button.
Oh god, I remember how long it took me to get past the Can't Wait to Be King stage, but it wasn't the monkeys, it was that damn double-jump on the ostrich! The part that finally broke me and got me to use the Level Choice Cheat was Hakuna Matata, that waterfall is just inhumane torture!
This game....a few years ago, my boyfriend and I decided to try beating it late at night. We beat it sometime around 4 AM, after looking up the cheat codes. Never again.
Lion King was my obsession as a child. I remember mastering this game so well that I even beat the demo at a Kmart within about 15 minutes without dying a single time. Despite the frustrations and difficulty (by today's standards), this game is a masterpiece that requires sharpened skills and reflexes. No death is a cheap death once you build up your skills. Ngl, I think both Disney animations are so good that should be left as standalone movies (though I will admit, before The Lion Guard, The Lion King was a great franchise), though out of the couple of films, if there is one I reject a remake for less, it would have to be Song of the South, but then again, that’s just so they could get rid of the “happy slaves” bullcrap, which is my only major nitpick with the film.

I also recently went back to this game and beat it a couple months ago. And on the Genesis version, where X= hitting attack frames after hitting jump (unless you use a 6-button controller). Game's hard, but what if I told you there's an other on that has a similar difficulty trend. OG Toy Story
I loved this game as a kid. I still do to this day. Once you memorize everything, you can finish this game in under 20 minutes. 22ish minutes if you want your health bar to full power. I had a great time playing this as a kid. I loved the challenge of the game but I am also obsessed with the movie. So I can see how other people wouldn't enjoy the hardness of this game. Great review. :)

This was one of my favorite games as a kid, and I’m genuinely surprised to hear it has a reputation for difficulty. It made me wonder if the Genesis version was easier or if I just played it so much that I memorized it all. Probably a bit of both. So I did a little research and, yes, the SNES version may look and sound better, but the Genesis version plays better and is easier. For example, the Sega version is a lot more forgiving when it comes to grabbing ledges. There are even easier routes that you can access in the Genesis version that are impossible in the SNES version because the game won’t register you grabbing those ledges. So on SNES when you’re jumping between hippo tails you need to be nearly pixel perfect whereas on Genesis you can basically tap A and as long as you’re near-ish the general ballpark it will count. Moreover, the whole hippo tail segment is skippable on Genesis. Additionally the controls are tighter, several enemies are less aggressive, the final battle is much easier (you have more time to act)... Basically the cheap, glitchy, unfair mechanical issues Jirard talks about are at their worst on SNES. If you want a more fair challenge and don’t mind a visual downgrade, the Genesis version is preferable.
The stampede level doesn't look as good without Mode 7, though. Though I do marvel they were able to pull it off at all, and not have to change that level out completely, as has happened with other Mode 7 stuff in Genesis ports.
My sister and I struggled through this on the sega genesis as kids and kept at it to the point where even to this day I have that ostrich run dodge order memorized... When we finally beat the game, we celebrated and bragged to our friends for *weeks* !!

The Lion King was the first game I owned as a kid. Got it for my 8th birthday with the Sega Genesis. I was able to get it to the last level, but I didn't end up beating it until the 5th grade. Still, it has a special place in my heart.

I loved this game and the challenge! I beat it quite a few times as a kid and finally beating it was always a memorable achievement. I didn’t beat it every play through which made when you did really exciting
MY GOD, Beardman you had the same thought process as me 2 years ago, this game is fun but ridiculously hard, I had it on the Sega Genesis. I decided to go back and try beating it, and I got to the final boss... but then I had no idea how to beat it, looked up tutorials, tried everything, no matter what I couldn't hurt Scar for some reason, so waiting a while, maybe now is the perfect time.
Jirard is pretty good at always seeming like a shill, so his genuine product placement videos (which he's upfront about) don't feel any less genuine than usual. It's a valid way to go.

This was one of my favorite games as a kid, and I’m genuinely surprised to hear it has a reputation for difficulty. It made me wonder if the Genesis version was easier or if I just played it so much that I memorized it all. Probably a bit of both.
So I did a little research and, yes, the SNES version may look and sound better, but the Genesis version plays better and is easier. For example, the Sega version is a lot more forgiving when it comes to grabbing ledges. There are even easier routes that you can access in the Genesis version that are impossible in the SNES version because the game won’t register you grabbing those ledges.
So on SNES when you’re jumping between hippo tails you need to be nearly pixel perfect whereas on Genesis you can basically tap A and as long as you’re near-ish the general ballpark it will count. Moreover, the whole hippo tail segment is skippable on Genesis.
Additionally the controls are tighter, several enemies are less aggressive, the final battle is much easier (you have more time to act)... Basically the cheap, glitchy, unfair mechanical issues Jirard talks about are at their worst on SNES. If you want a more fair challenge and don’t mind a visual downgrade, the Genesis version is preferable.
The Sega version is more improved in sound quality and gameplay (smooth) , the snes version gameplay is much slower imo.

The stampede level doesn't look as good without Mode 7, though. Though I do marvel they were able to pull it off at all, and not have to change that level out completely, as has happened with other Mode 7 stuff in Genesis ports.
All the Disney games were better on Sega. I'm not a fanboy or anything, there were just better development teams working on the Sega versions.
My sister and I struggled through this on the sega genesis as kids and kept at it to the point where even to this day I have that ostrich run dodge order memorized... When we finally beat the game, we celebrated and bragged to our friends for *weeks* !!

These are a bit older and not as well known, but watching you complete the legend of dragoon for ps1 would be cool, and RAD, Robot Alchemic Drive for ps2

I never made it past the first half of the first level in that game.
The Lion King was the first game I owned as a kid. Got it for my 8th birthday with the Sega Genesis. I was able to get it to the last level, but I didn't end up beating it until the 5th grade. Still, it has a special place in my heart.

You should definitely complete Scorpion King: Sword of Osiris, I used to play the fuck out of that game on my Gameboy when I woke up in the morning before I had to go to kindergarten.
I poured *hours* into this game as a kid. It was so damn hard! I loved it though. Each victory felt so rewarding.

I loved this game and the challenge! I beat it quite a few times as a kid and finally beating it was always a memorable achievement. I didn’t beat it every play through which made when you did really exciting

MY GOD, Beardman you had the same thought process as me 2 years ago, this game is fun but ridiculously hard, I had it on the Sega Genesis. I decided to go back and try beating it, and I got to the final boss... but then I had no idea how to beat it, looked up tutorials, tried everything, no matter what I couldn't hurt Scar for some reason, so waiting a while, maybe now is the perfect time.

Ledges are much easier on Genesis! Something's not ok with SNES version, that hippo level is unbelievably hard not like on sega.
