Donkey Kong Jungle Beat is not a rhythm game like the bongos with Donkey Konga. At first I thought I had to play along with the music but only ended messing myself up. This game for the Nintendo Gamecube (with our glorious HDMI mod) keeps the wackiness of the Donkey Kong universe and shares some elements of gameplay that would appear in later titles. This is a bit different from with Donkey Kong games. There's no letters, not even any hearts for health. In fact its all about platforming and completing combos to get you there.

This game was so rad. Absolutely tired me out playing it, but it was a good idea turned into a good game.

Oh yeah, Jungle Beat! I loved this hidden jewel in my childhood with my Wii!
Having the second cam of DK on the bottom left was there to emphasize his expressions and reactions to the environment, such as him putting on his game face when enemies were around. The other feature of this that was less hinted at was that he would show a bit of a happy/excited reaction when a secret was within reach (for the most part being a spot on the ground where bananas would appear after clapping in which DK would preform a groundpound). I’ve deleted my save data to 100% the game several times over and I’ve got to say I’m glad to have seen this in my recommendations, seeing it all these years later has brought back some good memories of my time playing it, thanks for covering it!
I thought Donkey Kong jungle beat was about DK training to defeat Godzilla in a chance to be named King of Monsters

Thank you for playing this game. I remember the day I got this, on my birthday, I was SO excited to try the bongos themselves believe it or not. I freaking love this game. It's incredibly underrated and I wish they made another like it. I would LOVE to take on more badass Kong boss fights. One of the few games I beat many times through.

Man. $350 plus shipping to have them mod your Gamecube with HDMI output. On the one hand, it's kind of expensive for me. On the other, I still want it.
Well to be fair, that's probably tricky to do. Labor intensive with electronics work. Spendy yes, but reasonable.
Or get an adapter, it's cheaper

A remake, please. This game deserves a series. It's sad it sold poorly on the GC. The fun, the originality, the immense pleasure of moving DK around, platforming and doing tricks to get max combos, all with the Bongos. I agree the Bongos makes this game even more special. I also agree about boss fights, the Kongs are by far the best fights in all DK games I've played so far. Maybe it will come as a shock to some, but it's possible my favorite DK game is Jungle Beat (I played all DKC on SNES but not Returns or Tropical Freeze yet). In any case, thanks for talking about this game. It is so under-appreciated.
I don't care the game was short, the pleasure was immeasurable and I want more games like those. The only issue I had is lack of challenging contents. Part of the problem however was because I was too good at the game. At some point I could achieve a run with no damage in all stages, bosses, beating the entire game with all Platinum badges in just 2h.

I always get scared whenever i see a donkey kong game because for a split second i think its DKC2 and worry the completionist is ending
Last time I checked, Sonic Boom was the only uncompleted game that he put on the show. I hope that it's the only one ever, because if there are others besides that title, then it would personally be for the best if this becomes a monthly series to limit that fear.
IdeaBox9000 no its not that, DKC2 is Jirads favourite game of all time and he has said on multiple occasions that when the completionist will eventually end, thats the game it ends on

I have great memories of playing Jungle Beat; it was near Summer 2005 and this was one of the last games that I played on GameCube. It was a great experience from beginning to end.
This was my first ever donkey Kong game AND I STILL REMEMBER WHEM THE DKCR COMMERCIAL DROPPED ahhhh good memories

The story is exactly the same as Ocarina of Time, but told worse. Find the sages! Go get Ganon!
Dale Stoddard Well there were consequences in BOTW. The downfall of the champions lead to the downfall of Hyrule which lead to the Divine Beasts and Guardians turning against Hyrule in favor of Ganon. Everything had consequences so I’m not sure what you’re on about. Also you say it’s just like OOT but there are no sages and really after you get the paraglider you can go straight to Ganon (unlike OOT) though I guess I can see the similarities between the sages and the first four shrines.

This game was part of my childhood. This is IMO, one of the most underrated games, and my favorite game on the GameCube. There is so much you can do with just a pair of bongos and a game, it controlled fantastically and the music is a damn bliss. The themes, while yes, can get a tiny bit repetitive, sometimes have really cool concepts, like Banshee Swamp or Clock Tower. Getting large combos in some levels in absolutely rewarding and losing my combo just makes me want to try the whole kingdom again to try and top my high scores. It is ABSOLUTELY satisfying to go over 2000 beats and just squeeze the combos out of the level. The soundtrack is SO DAMN GOOD, that I could listen to it for HOURS in a non-exaggerated way, it's superb fits the levels well. I could go on and on about how this game is a masterpiece...
But you forgot TWO MAJOR FLAWS...
It's loud as fuck and is probably really hard to play in a time and place where a lot of noise isn't welcomed, I'm surprised you didn't mention that.
Another one is that it is HORRIBLE on an emulator, the lag is horrible and the controls that is used for the controller (if you use one for the game) is horrendous.
If Nintendo ever needs game to make a sequel out of, this one would be a nice one to pick.

I actually love this game, the bongos have always been one of my fav controllers ever, i always go on twitch and ask people if theyre able to play the game they are playing with the bongos, i already owned donkey konga and the bongos and one day got this game for 2 dollars in great condition, i was surprised how little people actually talk about this game, its super unique and fun, also fun fact this was the first game to ever have the E 10+ rating, keep up the good work jirard love this game and love you

Can't wait. :D This video is the reason I got my dad to hunt for a gamecube seller and the following games Dk Jungle Beat + Bongos, Double Dash and Sunshine for only £150! thats an amazing deal and I can't wait to play it at Christmas. I just sit there marvelling at the Green Box for Donkey Kong all day sometimes.

I always loved this game as a kid
I love this game, the first time I played this in my youth my jaw dropped when I beat that first sleeping warthog thing. The action had me HOOKED and that with a controller, I probably would've enjoyed it more if I had the bongos. It was really unlike anything I had experienced.

This is why Monument Valley is my favorite video game series. It’s on the iPhone, as an interesting looking puzzle game, but it actually has really great music, art, and a very moving story at times. Definitely not what I expected.
God I love this game so much, I love the combo system and the boss fights. I want this on the Switch now.
