The badges in the rogueport shop across from the Inn can all be purchased by talking with the toad regardless of whether or not they're on display, those ones are just on sale. 14:00 The "having to backtrack to change the stock of shops to get the badge you want" can only be applied to Charlieton, at the Lovely Howz of Badges, the badges on the counter are the ones that are on sale, you can buy the rest of their stock, at the regular price mind you, by talking to the clerk.
plus you can just buy the whole cooking log later on lol the hardest part of the cooking whatevers is actually just getting tangy berries for the queen's dinner
Right there with you on that, it's my all-time fav too! That being said, I agree with his end score and I don't believe this game was meant to be fully completed, more so having bragging rights about completing a certain thing and having many alternate ways to get things (For example the troubles and how there is many different types of them with varied rewards or how badges and items allow for several different strats rather then find the weakness and do that)
Yeah, I agree too. While I have 100% the game before, I don't really plan on ever doing it casually. Maybe if I want to let's play it but other than that, it's not needed.
I'd give it a fina-plete it rating. Personally, I've done everything but get every last badge and every last recipe. I feel that's how this game should be played. Do all the side quests and complete the tattle log, but screw some of these useless items/badges lol.
yes, and no. have you ever ground on amazy daisys until max level? there is a BP cap, but it is significantly higher than 64's. if i am remembering right, the caps are 50 hp, 50 fp, 99 bp. (though you can use the corresponding badges to trade BP for above cap stats.) Still the way i play, though i go mainly for passives. then i learned about the danger mario strategy the first time i reached the final boss when young me struggled >:) (danger badges mixed with chet rippo meant you only need to worry about piercing damage like lightning)
@Walker Farnsworth i never said 64's caps were 99, i said they were lower than ttyd's caps. I still prefer ttyd over 64 for the larger variety of play styles the expanded badge system gives. yes, danger invalidates most of the strategy, but it also takes a lot of prep. to get the badges needed you need to grind late game badges with a secret party member.
Literally my favorite RPG followed closely by SMRPG. I play TTYD to completion almost annually and I love it the same every time. The dialogue is clever and doesn't pander to children, characters LITERALLY die, the music is iconic and phenomenal, and the combat is just fine tuned enough to be difficult but not hair pulling! Hands down one of the most loved and well put together RPGs in history.
The 100% reward for TTyD remake is a badge that turns Mario gold! The creators were obviously watching this, if it wasn't obvious the boys at Nintendo love The Completionist!
Jirard you do know if you talk to the guy in the badge shop you can get a full list of his badges for an increased price no need to wait for him to cycle them out.
That’s one of my most memorable moments in gaming or any type of entertainment really, I really loved the mystery of it. I can’t wait to play the remake 20 years later
This was my absolute favorite Paper Mario game. It's hilarious as hell, it's fun as hell, and it's SO good to see you play this game. This one is incredibly solid.

Did you know if you forgot to tattle a boss you can still get it's tattle log by going to that old Goomba's home and digging in the trash. This is also no joke I forgot to do that once and I got the tattle log out of the trash in that old Goomba's trash.
And while I can't really fault him for this one because it isn't really something most people are aware of, but you don't actually have to leave to get new items from the traveling merchant, you only have to go 2 screens away (so basically just underground or to the train station) and he will restock a new set of items.
I actually finished TTYD for the first time very recently, and I enjoyed every minute of it. There were some great memorable moments that I experienced along the way and would definitely play it again.
Super Paper Mario is my favorite Paper Mario game aswell. It has possibly the best story in the series. Even though many people like the RPG elements of Paper Mario, I loved the platforming aspect combination of Super Paper Mario. It was also my first Paper Mario game. It might possibly be my favorite game of all time.
Boba Fett agreed I’ve wanted someone like Jirard but more specifically somecallmejohnny to review my first proper rpg. In fact just recently I got Earthbound uncut. It’s pretty sweet!

There is a completion reward for the switch version. You only need to do the cookbook, tattle log, and badges. Once you get those completed, you go to Roquefort and get a special badge.
The new Paper Mario games are fine and all... but like TTYD set such a high point in terms of total package, that every subsequent game has felt lacking to a degree. That said, yeah Color Splash has the best comedy bar none.
This game is one of the few i did complete. I took my sweet time with it tho. Put so many hours into it. But it never felt bad to do so. It really is more about the journey than the destination, and it was great. Would i complete it again? Hell naw!!! But real talk. The Color Splash humor is trash.
It grabs the first straw it can get its hands on. it's all paper here, paper there, paper that.... i got genuinely annoyed by it and i do love me some "bad" jokes, but godamn, pls put a bit more thought into it. Only a few lines in the entire game got me to chuckle at best. Also nothing but Toads and/or the occasional talking enemy. Even just a single Toad is way more annoying than spamming "DAISY!!!" for 20 minutes in the Mario Kart character selection.
Pedro Gonzales I think that's just where our opinions hardly differ and I respect yours. but just lemme say that i think that Color Splash and Sticker Star are missing many things that made the first 3 installments so fun and memorable and instead shoved some unnessecary bs into it that took away any fun and reason for me to play the games. I really don't like the decision they made it "Oh, if you want good RPGs, play Mario & Luigi instead, they have always been what you wanted from Paper Mario". Meanwhile Paper Mario is technically the direct successor to Mario RPG and was around longer, therefore deserving to be the RPG series it, was up until SPM. ...But SPM made up for it with a story that could rival any Darkside/Nightmare Kirby story and even Majoras Mask with its overarching and ever present threat, hilarious and colorful characters and sub-plots, good writing, serious and sometimes even dark moments (Paper Mario and friends got literally killed with explosions in SPM and landed in video game Hades. a whole world just got obliterated into nothingness despite all efforts and almost nobody survived it, temporarily.) and a sense of accomplishment for progressing in the story. I never felt accomplished in the last two games, it was always a "Yeah whatever, moving on". The first games were an adventure and an experience, in the last two it felt like a chore to finally get to the end and have it be over. It's really just missing the magic.
WiiWaldi93 Never played Sticker Star, but there were a lot of paper jokes in Color Splash. Most came from the bucket guy, and they were awful. I know they were meant to be bad, but they got annoying by chapter 4.
Wow, wouldn't this be awesome remastered for the Switch? ... It would, wouldn't it? ..... ..... GODDAMNIT NINTENDO, DO I HAVE TO SPELL IT OUT FOR YOU?! BRING THE FUCKING GAME BACK TO US!!!
Yeah, this is one of those moments in my childhood where I definitely thought I was too cool for school. I loved Super Mario RPG, but when I saw that it's supposed successor was this weird 2.5D paper Mario game on the N64, I passed it by thinking it looked too lame, too cheap for me. Where was the top-down perspective? And if it really is Mario RPG 2, where's Geno or Mallow? So I passed the whole series by. Now I regret it because I'd like to play them, but they aren't on anything I have access to. I hope Nintendo someday makes them available in whatever the future version of the VC ends up being.
Putting Paper Mario 64 and TTYD in a single cartridge on the Switch, with updated graphics or not, would definitely be an easy way to get lots of money on their part. And it'd finally make TTYD easily accessible!
You can actually emulate the N64 and Gamecube with little difficulty on your computer. I recommend openemu so that you can use most emulators including n64 and dolphin for gamecube games. FYI I have a Mac so unless you have linux, your OS isn't an excuse.
Brian Cole the first paper Mario is on the Wii u virtual console and you could probably emulate TTYD since you probably won't fond a copy of it for cheap
You go from completing one of the worst games ever created (sneak king) to one of the greatest games ever made. I love this channel. Also I really hope you complete Super Paper Mario. That game is amazing as well even though the formula is different.
lol i was just playing this game since its the greatest in the series. also not sure if im the only one who thinks this, but i always got a comic book vibe from the look of ttyd.
I don't understand why he's singling this game out for this when other rpg's give you nothing for sidequests and superbosses. defeating the lingering will in kh2 gets you nothing but bragging rights; defeating emerald and ruby weapon in ffvii gets you nothing but bragging rights, but those games get a free pass?
I just want to thank Jirard for his videos. A year ago, I spent a LOT of time in the hospital, and these videos were the only things that would calm me down and make me feel less sick! Even now, your videos put me at ease whenever I get stressed. So, thanks a bunch Jirard! Keep up the awesome work :)
TheNextGenius No. Just no. This 2D 3D Feature just leads to an endless on- and Off-Turning of the Options.. Plus the Partner and Character Switching. And the uninspired level design.. Dude, remember Chapter 7-2? Climping up a tower filled with tonns of Buus for 10 Minutes.. Leveldesign!
The Gameplay is not what you expect from that Paper Mario RPG playstyle, but it mixes many things and is all over the place at times. ofc you can burn everything with bowser once you get him but that is taking the fun away. The most RPG battly system was the homage to the Mother franchise where you fight 3 colored Chain Chomps. It also forced you to switch between power ups to do the simplest things, like using the hammer, due to the "play that with the 4 buttons of the wii-mote" idea. Long story short, much gameplay potential was wasted, but it was still acceptable and worked well enough. Story was amazing, but i dunno if i'd say it's better than ttyd.
Making good art of any kind is hard. That's like saying a musician who's old albums were great but new ones suck is destroying the music that the fans love. They have so many good games under their belt, probably more masterpieces than any other company in the history of gaming as well. That's because they're willing to try new ideas, and in doing that they're going to make mistakes. It has nothing to do with the fans adoring the franchise, it's them trying to give people a product that doesn't just feel like a repeat of their last product. Their consoles follow the same logic.
@@OneAndZer0 Though part of the problem is that they've been playing it really safe with the character designs - IS isn't allowed to make characters with unique designs if they're part of a pre existing species
Personally, I didn't grow up with TTYD, but instead, I grew up with Super Paper Mario, which is the next game in the series. From the story to the creativity to the music, this game was my everything and I honestly think you'd enjoy it. Super Paper Mario really plays with the whole "paper" gimmick and the dialogue is really enveloping, funny, and endearing. Don't get me wrong TTYD is an amazing game, but it didn't get me emotionally like Super Paper Mario did so if you ever feel like playing another really good Paper Mario game, I'd recommend that. Love the video btw! Keep at it!
I don't see waluigi paper mario. You disappoint. If you didn't realize it then you never got curious enough to try putting on both Luigi and wario emblem on at the same time.
Something I've always enjoyed about Mario RPG games is their sense of world building, character development, engaging gameplay, creative ways to learn a bosses moves or weakpoints, and their comedic writing. Definitely one of my favorite RPG series.
I was so happy when I finally got everything in the game after thousands of hours of playtime! Also, who else managed to beat the Pit off 100 Trails with the Double Pain badge on?
When I played this, I was so impressed by it. It left a long impression on me. I didn't know it would be the last truly great game. I didn't realize the series peaked here. But then again I don't think anyone really could forsee the direction Nintendo took with it. People complain and say people like me just want another Thousand Year door. Those that say that, really don't understand. The new Paper Mario games would be fine as their own thing, but they're not rpgs. They just...aren't. And the Toads...and the complete annihilation of anything that isn't basic Mario.
I remember having this game since I was 7 or 9 years old and how I never finish it, I always reach the final boss but could never defeat them. It wasn't till I was around 20 that I decided not only was I gonna beat it, but I was also going to 100% it. I was proud and happy that I did and it will be a fond memory of my childhood game.
2:43 Ok, question. How many people got a pink Yoshi their first run? Because there were so many times that I got a pink one by just playing the game. It got to the point that I was so sick of pink Yoshi that I always waited till armored harriers, then got the egg, then finished the fight as quickly as possible. Also, you don't have to tattle bosses and enemies that you won't fight again. In the trash can at the prof.'s house, you can find tattle log info on any bosses or enemies that appear one.

This game is one of the best games I've ever played. The creativity shines through so much easily the best Mario spin-off ever.
AyyMJeyy facts
But then Miyamoto took a side glance at it...
After you beat the game, I think you can find Bow from paper Mario 1 in poshley heights.
Yep! And Bootler if I remember correctly
And Goombario.
You can find all the past companions anywhere around the map which is really cool
@@sarangkale7349 No. Only Lady Bow and Parakarry appear
Try bug fables. It has completion bonuses, an easier side quest log, and the cooking quest isn't so bad.
plus you can just buy the whole cooking log later on lol
the hardest part of the cooking whatevers is actually just getting tangy berries for the queen's dinner
Ahh Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. My all time favorite game. Can't wait to watch this!
BassSinger313 / Aaron Vo Hai.
BassSinger313 / Aaron Vo I love this Mario! But when I first played Galaxy, it took my spot as favorite!
I'd give it a fina-plete it rating. Personally, I've done everything but get every last badge and every last recipe. I feel that's how this game should be played. Do all the side quests and complete the tattle log, but screw some of these useless items/badges lol.
Badge point only runs are the best way to play this game.

Most interesting by far.
Wicked fun test of button timing
yes, and no. have you ever ground on amazy daisys until max level? there is a BP cap, but it is significantly higher than 64's. if i am remembering right, the caps are 50 hp, 50 fp, 99 bp.
Seeing this in my feed was like waking up to Christmas in July

Literally my favorite RPG followed closely by SMRPG. I play TTYD to completion almost annually and I love it the same every time. The dialogue is clever and doesn't pander to children, characters LITERALLY die, the music is iconic and phenomenal, and the combat is just fine tuned enough to be difficult but not hair pulling! Hands down one of the most loved and well put together RPGs in history.
I don’t recall any characters dying in the game.
Henry Tims Grodus dies
Doug Edgar not really no one dies.
Waluigi...pfff. Overrated.
Trogdor for Smash Ultimate!
Executer 66
Sora for Ultimate!
Sydney Hilton nahh, I want Roxas. Or maybe Xion
Musicdriventhoughts nah who we really need is saix I mean there's "no excuse" for them not to add him
Nah you need BABY WALUGI BAYBEE
None of these will happen they can’t get the rights to any of these people
The 100% reward for TTyD remake is a badge that turns Mario gold! The creators were obviously watching this, if it wasn't obvious the boys at Nintendo love The Completionist!
Jirard you do know if you talk to the guy in the badge shop you can get a full list of his badges for an increased price no need to wait for him to cycle them out.
That train level was so memorable for me. All these years later and it's still one of my favorite moments in any game
I love the mysteries and it's a nice break from the battles... but I get annoyed when you have to go into the station to lower the bridge :(
That’s one of my most memorable moments in gaming or any type of entertainment really, I really loved the mystery of it. I can’t wait to play the remake 20 years later
This was my absolute favorite Paper Mario game. It's hilarious as hell, it's fun as hell, and it's SO good to see you play this game. This one is incredibly solid.

He really predicted the completion bonus in the remake
Did you know if you forgot to tattle a boss you can still get it's tattle log by going to that old Goomba's home and digging in the trash.
This is also no joke I forgot to do that once and I got the tattle log out of the trash in that old Goomba's trash.
Omg, he never realized you can buy any of the badge shop badges at any time XD
He also never realized you don't have to tattle bosses (Their tattle logs somehow end up in a certain professor's bin)
And while I can't really fault him for this one because it isn't really something most people are aware of, but you don't actually have to leave to get new items from the traveling merchant, you only have to go 2 screens away (so basically just underground or to the train station) and he will restock a new set of items.

Great, now do Super Paper Mario. I know you have it. There's no escape now that we've seen it.
The Macho Man tirade got me good. Another great episode! Keep it up!
So glad you played. It’s my all time favorite game! I even have paper Peach tattooed on my foot in honor of it! ☺️
Wow. You must really love this game, huh?
Jirad's gonna have to complete this game all over again!
I actually finished TTYD for the first time very recently, and I enjoyed every minute of it. There were some great memorable moments that I experienced along the way and would definitely play it again.
Easily in the Top 3 games of all time.
It makes me a happy man to see a Trogdor referance in 2018
Do Super Paper Mario! :D
Yes please!
Yes!
Yes
Super Paper Mario is my favorite Paper Mario game aswell. It has possibly the best story in the series. Even though many people like the RPG elements of Paper Mario, I loved the platforming aspect combination of Super Paper Mario. It was also my first Paper Mario game. It might possibly be my favorite game of all time.
The Thousand Year Door and Super Paper Mario are both my favorites. I just can’t choose between the two of them!
14:20 if you talk to the shopkeeper, you can buy any badge at any time

There is a completion reward for the switch version. You only need to do the cookbook, tattle log, and badges. Once you get those completed, you go to Roquefort and get a special badge.
The new Paper Mario games are fine and all... but like TTYD set such a high point in terms of total package, that every subsequent game has felt lacking to a degree. That said, yeah Color Splash has the best comedy bar none.
One of my favorite GameCube games, completed this 100%.
Kuronji I couldnt get all recipes...like come on how was I supposed to know I could cook a poison shroom and that iself into a stew
greatest Mario RPG?
one of the greatest Mario games in general
Period
Did you finish the 100 enemy's in the pipes by the thousand year door? I've done it one time and only once.
1:00 finally someone likes Color Splash! it's my favorite Paper Mario (That I've played) and no one else likes it.
Even just a single Toad is way more annoying than spamming "DAISY!!!" for 20 minutes in the Mario Kart character selection.
might have confused the two games but neither of the games felt enjoyable in any way.
Pedro Gonzales
I think that's just where our opinions hardly differ and I respect yours. but just lemme say that i think that Color Splash and Sticker Star are missing many things that made the first 3 installments so fun and memorable and instead shoved some unnessecary bs into it that took away any fun and reason for me to play the games.
Naming his Yoshi Trogdor right when the Trogdor board game got funded on Kickstarter? Coincidence? Or Fate?
This game is one of kind with it's blend on an interactive turn based battle system. It's simple and fun as hell HIGHLY RECOMMEND ALL AGES
Love your vids dude
Btw, love your intro theme thingie
You've got style, Jirard. I like how you can tell everything you can about the game and yet give no spoilers about the plot. Great job!
Wow, wouldn't this be awesome remastered for the Switch?

GODDAMNIT NINTENDO, DO I HAVE TO SPELL IT OUT FOR YOU?! BRING THE FUCKING GAME BACK TO US!!!
Origami King is a good replacement
@ScoopyDoo IMO, so is Bug Fables: The Everlasting Sapling.
I'd buy it immediately
TTYD is way better than SMRPG, if you ask me, and I love SMRPG.
Brian Cole the first paper Mario is on the Wii u virtual console and you could probably emulate TTYD since you probably won't fond a copy of it for cheap
Pm 64 is on the wii u.
You go from completing one of the worst games ever created (sneak king) to one of the greatest games ever made.
I love this channel.
Also I really hope you complete Super Paper Mario. That game is amazing as well even though the formula is different.
aZombieDictator what are you talking about? Sneak King was the BEST game ever created! (Just Kidding)
This game is getting a remake on May 23, 2024
personally I saw the paper aesthetic as an excuse to tune down the polygons so they could go crazy on textures
Paper Mario: The Thousand Years it took me to beat it
lol i was just playing this game since its the greatest in the series.
also not sure if im the only one who thinks this, but i always got a comic book vibe from the look of ttyd.
It looks like a pop-up storybook. An artistic vibe that was lost in the newer Paper Mario game graphics "improvement"
i can see the pop-up storybook vibe. I just always saw a comic book look cause of it being darker then most mario games plus the looks of most areas.
i think you focus too much on completion rewards.
patrick watkins that’s the point of the completionist.
Jrad Heisenkirk Some people like to 100% games because they enjoy them enough. They don't do it with some special reward in mind for doing so.
I thought being able to do more things after you beat the game was a pretty good reward.
exactly what HammerStix said if i complete something it's for completions sake not because there is a reward at the end.
If you liked this you should play bug fables, it has all the charm of this with the annoyances buffed out.
Can u do DK Country Tropical Freeze?
Otacon464 Idk if he has I’m excited for the New Game Plus episode...
You gotta do Super Paper Mario after this. So freaking good. And its story is way better than TTYD in my opinion.
Amen
But the gameplay is trash..
What? No it's not, I love how the gameplay works. Switching from 2D to 3D is really cool.
TheNextGenius
No.
Idk why Nintendo likes to take franchises people adore and then destroy them
Making good art of any kind is hard.
Keep at it!
“ I’d be flat out lying...” i see what you did there..
Will you ever do a super paper Mario completion, and if so when?
I miss this game so much, i want it on the switch
I don't see waluigi paper mario. You disappoint. If you didn't realize it then you never got curious enough to try putting on both Luigi and wario emblem on at the same time.
That's why people love this game. Days and days of play instead of a storyline finished within hours. Love it
Something I've always enjoyed about Mario RPG games is their sense of world building, character development, engaging gameplay, creative ways to learn a bosses moves or weakpoints, and their comedic writing.
I remember skipping an entire week of school to play this when it came out.
You love everything. Even when you criticize you end with saying but it's no big deal.
You love everything.
This game is good though?
