It's Wednesday it's time for another nostalgia critic movie review & it's "the lion king" it's because the live action film is opening this Friday isn't it ?
I don’t know why everyone gets all pissy about this. Neither Disney nor John Favreau have been advertising this movie as Live Action, only dumbass media and journalists have.
@@thewolfofcomedy5966 cause "photorealistic cgi" is a mouthful and even Disney knows that wouldn't sell tickets. Really the only thing "live action" in the live action jungle book is the actor playing Mowgli. You can't ignore the selling point of these movies is a "live action" look Disney is pushing rather it actually is 'live" action or not, they wouldn't get very far selling an "animated in a different way" remake.
The Wolf of Comedy Actually I heard that someone working on the movie was trying to argue that it was “live action” so to speak, I don’t know exactly who but I think it’s complete bullshit, honestly this was one of the most pointless remakes Disney has made in recent years and that’s a record considering the other ones.
Am I the only one who likes some of the food puns? “Did we order this dinner to go? Because THERE IT GOES!” is the greatest out-of-context line in the film
Hell no! I love all the puns in this! Maybe it's the delivery or the writing style, but it's one of the best examples of how to make puns. I used to quote "cheetahs never prosper" and "tastes like chicken" (particularly when I'm having Ramen Noodles) all the time as a kid!
@@RYMAN1321 it's based on the term "cheaters never prosper", which is about how cheaters in games, competitions, and bets and such never win. But during Zazu's report to Mufasa (which you might of missed, seeing as how the special edition replaced with a song or how in the original the focus was Mufasa teaching Simba to pounce), Zazu uses the term to talk about how a couple of cheetah's cheated him.
@@isaywhateveriwantandyougot7421 plotholes? You used “A” singular, then added the “s” at the end of “Plothole”, making it “Plothole(s)” which would mean multiple plotholes, not one like the “A” suggests. Hmm…
Fun fact: the two actors who played Simba's parents (James Earl Jones and Madge Sinclair) also played Eddie Murphy's parents in Coming to America, both times being an African king and queen.
If it's still here, look around TH-cam for this video with The Lion King's visuals and Coming to America's audio dubbed over it. Worth it to hear Mufasa say, "I once tied my own shows, and I can confidently say, it is an overrated experience." Oh hell, I thought Jones nailed every line in that movie, like "So you see, my son, there is a fine line between love and nausea." and "My son WORKS?!"
You missed the beauty of Simba kicking Scar off the cliff. Throughout the movie, Nala has always won their little fights, pinning him down from above. Then after Rafiki tells him that you can run or learn from pain, Simba kicks Scar over the cliff. I thought that was hilarious.
Critics, the reason why Cummings did a third of the song is because of this. *YOU WON'T GET A SNIFF WITHOUT ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!* Irons blew out his vocal chords on that bit and couldn't do the rest, that's how much into the role he was.
12:27 - Jim Cummings: a legendary voice actor so talented that he doesn't just get cast to voice fictional anthropomorphic characters, he gets cast to voice OTHER voice actors in the middle of THEIR voice acting roles...
The biggest thing I think this review failed to mention was Scar's emotional manipulation. It doesn't matter who actually killed Mufasa as much as the fact that Simba *thinks* he killed Mufasa. The "What would your mother think?" line was a trigger for Simba's abuse that reminded him of his past. For his pride's sake, he decided to go back and responsibly face his potential consequences as his own decision. The choice to take responsibility is what matters most.
@@jacksonpauls3495 How is it hollow? It shows his growth as a character, realizing that he can’t just run away. More than that, he had misunderstood what the “Hakuna Matata” song was about. It wasn’t about abandoning your responsibilities, it’s about not letting them weigh you down. Even if he didn’t kill his father, he still chose to accept the possibility of facing consequences, that’s the takeaway
The mum thing is that Scar asks the question to get Simba to think his mother will hate him for killing his dad. Nala asking the question is a recall, but she's trying to imply the opposite- that his mother will be thrilled.
As to Doug's final point about the movie mangling it's message about taking responsibility, I read it a bit differently to how he reviews it here. When Simba reveals that he's responsible for Mufasa's death, this is shocking news. Nala, Sirabi and the other lionesses are all caught off guard by the revelation, and Scar is ready to exploit their reaction. He shouts and repeats the accusation, verbally re-enforcing it, and starts circling Simba to isolate him from the rest of the pride until his army of hyenas can back him up to hem Simba in against the cliffs. It's less about his friends and family abandoning him in the face of the confession, more that even despite the fact that Simba did the right thing, Scar is still a devious bastard who knows how to twist a situation to his advantage, just as he did in the canyon.
@@who-ny5oe The reason we say this is that people will see any out of curiosity, even if it's not great. It's the same problem with Micheal Bay's Transformers were people complain about the films, but people still see them. There needs to be a moment where people boycott a film.
"What will your mother think?" Simba is ashamed and guilty about his involvement in Mufasa's death, due to his impressionable young mind and how Scar pushed all the blame onto him. That line is used first as Scar making sure Simba be afraid of what his people would think of him, and is used again by Nala to remind the audience why Simba remains in hiding, his disconnection from society has left him in arrested development, unable to see the truth past Scar's lies.
Exactly. And that is why Simba wasn't very good at defending himself until Scar stupidly whispered the truth in his ear. Simba was a hurt and confused cub who was fooled into believing he killed his father. The poor guy was traumatized!
@@treythegamerwolf551 That Mufasa in the Sky is supposed to represent the part of Simba who knows that he needs to accept his responsibility and go back. Simba didn't know Scar killed Mufasa, so how can a vision of his father that represents his sense of responsibility know or even CONSIDER that Scar killed him. People like you and Doug Walker disappoint me for not stopping and thinking about it from the point of view of the characters.
@@Wiiguy1606 I'd actually agree with that if not for 2 reasons, Lion king 2, and Lion guard pretty much establishes it wasn't just a vision, 2 if it was just a vision what was with that whole "you've forgotten me"
@@treythegamerwolf551 Forget it. It's not you I'm mad at. It's the Nostalgia Critic. So I shouldn't be taking my anger out on you. I apologize for that. I still enjoy the original Animated film and wouldn't mind if the Live-action remake doesn't make that many changes to the Animated one compared to the other Live-action Remakes. Everyone has their likes and dislikes and I enjoy the Lion King, flaws and all.
Here's my interpretation of the Circle of Life philosophy of the movie. Yes...the lions DO eat the other animals, like most predators do. But what Mufasa is trying to teach Simba is that one should never take too much from their domain, lest they risk throwing things off-balance. In other words; if they end up eating too much, there will be no other animals left to keep nature on course
This is the part everyone seems to miss when they make fun of the environmental decay of Scar's reign. He completely upset the ecology of the Pride Lands by allowing the hyenas free reign over everything. Hyenas are usually scavengers who eat what the lions leave behind. Now they're one of the apex predators, and far more numerous. That's gonna cause huge ecosystem changes. Just look at the Yellowstone deer.
The Lionesses don't make a move to help Simba while Scar is blaming him for Mufasa's death and backing him off a cliff. This would seem to indicate that his apparent responsibility for Mufasa's death has turned them against him...except Simba has challenged Scar for position as King. Interfering would be breaking the rules of the challenge, until a winner is decided it's entirely between Simba and Scar. After Simba makes Scar confess to murder the hyenas jump Simba and the lionesses have their chance to get in on things, though they still don't attack Scar himself.
Not only that, but it could also be that the hyenas were blocking the lionesses from trying to stand up for Simba when Scar was cornering him. I mean, there were a lot more hyenas than lionesses, and when we get to the shot of Scar confessing that he, not Simba, killed Mufasa, you see the lionesses stuck behind the hyenas, who are ready to attack.
I think you misinterpreted the message a bit. The point was if Simba kept running from his past he would never learn from it i.e he would never find out the truth of what happened. The reason the lionesses didn't help him was because they were in shock, they just heard that he was responsible for their previous Kings death. Hakuna Matata wasn't about dodging responsibility it was about not worrying about things you can't change especially the past. And finally the reason Simba was cornered by Scar and could do so little is because the moral wasn't about facing your fears, which is what makes Scar such a great villain, he still had a hold on Simba even after all these years. He was brave enough to confront the past but he was still afraid of what he thought he'd done.
@@KeybladeMasterAndy Again I think that's taking it too literally. It never says don't do anything just don't worry about it because it's in the past, that's literally half of Simba's lesson. Not to worry about it because he can't change it but rafiki says he must face it in order to see the truth.

@@SatanenPerkele You mean there isn't a one bit of Live action in Disneys *Live Action* 2019 "The Lion King". Which is EXACTLY what it was marketed as... The Live Action Lion King. the 😂😂😂
16:57-17:05 "Long live the king." Why, thank you. I think I do a good job myself- WAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!! I'm sorry, but that made me laugh harder than it should have.
His fantastic James Earl Jones impression makes it all the more perfect. I also loved his Rafiki line of showing Mufasa his shit, it sounded so weirdly in sync with the film. 😆
Yeah, the critic must not hang around kids much, and have forgotten his own childhood... Having your parents stop loving you is the biggest fear for a child, a very irrational fear in most cases but extremely strong. It's totally believable for a kid to expect his mother to hate him over a small mistake, let alone (allegedly) causing the death of his father...
Because literally no one could understand the line was child manipulation. A 4 year old knows that. The joke is that the line is still kind of odd, and oddly delivered.
motodog242 Simba’s mom was probably hit the hardest by his “death”. It’s a pretty natural to assume the news of Simba’s survival would be most relevant to her. I mean, I don’t feel like this even warrants explaining, the line just feels normal and natural in Nala’s case.
I think that Scar makes the comment "What will your mother think?" because one of the worst feelings in the world is disappointing your mother (if you're close with her. So that also goes for whoever raised you, that you have an unbreakable/mother-child like bond with. For me, it's my Grandmother. The LAST thing I would EVER want to do is disappoint her.)
the difference between physical strength and emotional strength is also a core message of the movie. Simba initially admires his dad for how big and strong and powerful he is, but Mufasa's greatest strength is emotional. It's his empathy, and it shows in the scene where he tells simba about the great kings of the past. It's Mufasa's emotional strength that is Simba's driving force throughout the whole movie and is what enables him to gain that strength on his own at the final part. The lion king has so many different messages, in the end it's an ode to life. To the circle of life
They had to though. The hyenas' characters were reworked from goofy and comedic to dark and serious, so it would make no sense for Scar to spend half the song singing about how they were idiots.
@@eligonzales186 so the only thing stopping you from seeing Lion King live action ground edition was "be prepared"? and you wonder why nothing is original anymore.
I think we can all agree in this one thing. James Earl Jones *is* the King. The guy has got the #1 coolest voice of all time ever. He's always a treat in whatever movie he's in. 😎
Usually Frank Welker would get the role of animated characters who don't speak English and instead communicate through other means, so it's strange that Jim Cummings got that role.
It doesn't matter if a movie song is about dodging your responsibilities as long as the movie concludes that it is bad to dodge your responsibilities and why. In my opinion Frozen managed to do that well, The Lion King sadly didn't.
Azur Wing I mean... is actually the other way around... did you actually see the movie? Lion king is ALL ABOUT assuming ones responsibility, with Simba being responsable for his destiny, for his role in the circle of life, for what he thought was his fault that mufasa died. It was all about being responsible. He learned that.
Since Doug neglects to say this, the stampeding scene was CGI, and it took an absolutely obscene amount of rendering to do at the time. The stampeding scene was an absolute marvel of CGI animation for the time, having hundreds of wilderbeasts in the same scene was absolutely ridiculous Also Scar's real name is Taka, which means dirt/trash in Swahili
@Dawid 26480 Just goes to show how passionate the original Lion King was and how dedicated the filmmakers were to making it the best movie they could. The remake has none of that passion.
What i find mostly impressive with this movie is. Despite the short slow mo slap fight with Simba and Scar, they somehow manage to make it look insanely epic!
16:56 Fun fact: while „Mufasa“ means „King“, Scar‘s name was actually „Taka“, before he got his scar. „Taka“ means „Garbage”. So, their parents literally named their kids King & Garbage!

The area 51 raid isn't brave, it's stupid. If it even happens, it'll be a bunch of folk risking their lives for nothing; area 51 is so well-known, anything secret has certainly been moved elsewhere by now.
@@dannykazari That's strange since The Lion King is not very "furry," like other Disney movies such as Zootopia or Robin Hood or even The Aristocats, the animals are mostly realistic-style.
About Nala and Simba being maybe super incestuous, they tried to fix that in THE LION GUARD...and made things much worse for everyone. In it, they revealed that there were originally like 5 other lions in the pride, one of which was Nala's father. These lions formed the Lion Guard, the peacekeepers of the Pride Lands, led by which ever lion held the Roar of the Elders, usually a member of the Royal family. Previously, Scar was the leader and held the Roar, but he thought that meant he should be King, so he tried to overthrow Mufasa. The other members of the guard refused, SO HE KILLED THEM. this caused his Roar to be taken away, and Mufasa in his stupid kindness, let Scar stay. Which means SCAR HAS TRIED TO TAKE OVER BEFORE! Very RECENTLY I MIGHT ADD.
In all honesty, in the lion guard when they explain that story about Nala’s father they never really said when he was part of the guard. As for Scar, once again we never know when he wanted his guard to kill Mufasa. It at least had to be 3-5 years before Lion King as it would help with Scars growing hatred for Mufasa, as Scar would grow more comfortable without the roar of the elders, and more time for him to become smarter
They're not canon, but the Lion King books mentioned and portray multiple Male lions in the pride in edition to Mufasa and they're much older than the show. (They make more sense too).
Nicamon I think Disney doesn’t have full right to the books, plus Kopa really is just a guy Kiara with out the whole Romeo and Juliet thing. Kion at last has a defining character trait. #Team Kion
You know what? When you think about it, Scar's behavior after Mufasa's death is more than evil, it's messed up: He can't kill Simba himself, I mean, the whole point of sending him to the graveyard and later the plot with the stampede is partially this, besides not being able to take down Mufasa himself: If he did, his scent would be all over the body along with marks of his claws or teeth. He can lie about marks in Mufasa's paws by saying he was trying to help, but not with fatal wounds (even as I child I got this, pretty obvious). So, the next best course of action when Simba survives is to send the hyenas after him... What does he do? He basically shatters Simba further by saying his father died because of him, implying how devastated his mother will be and then saying the only thing he can do now is to leave his home forever. And only then Scars sends the hyenas. This is how much Scar resented/hated Simba for being next in line, he isn't satisfied with just killing him and takes the chance to twist the knife. Pretty messed up for a Disney villain, guys...
Damn. I actually didn't think of it like that. When you make your points Uta actually is quite mess up. Scar hated mufasa and simba so much that he didn't want them just dead. He wanted them to suffer, slowly and painfully. But knew that if he did the deed himself he's screwed. So he play his cards right and low behold, he killed his brother and manipulates simba's guilt before he let the hyenas finish him off. A fucking cub.
@@shadowentertainment9975 He made them both suffer as much as he could when the opportunity was given. Mufasa is begging for help? He doesn't just let him go, he leans in and whispers with all the hate he can. Mufasa looks scared and betrayed, realizing the brother he loved hates him to this point (and will probably kill his son as well). Simba doesn't die in the stampede? He doesn't send the hyenas right away, he tortures this cub emotionally and mentally as much as he can. Just... That's almost Maleficent levels of sadism.
@@notfloweyyt7618 Excatly. I know it's kind off a no brainer but since I was a kid I always wondered for years why Mufasa's death made the biggest impact in Disney's Parent Death Line-Up. It's because he's the Disney parent with the most amount of screen time before his death. I think Mufasa can be described as the animated film equivalent of Ned Stark, cause he basically starts out as the protagonist who we all look up to and admire until he dies and then his son becomes the protagonist.
Technically did the same to Tarzan's parents in the opening (although the tree hut is VERY dark, so it's hard to see without increasing brightness, but they're there). But, like the Hunchback, Tarzan obviously came out after Lion King.
I tweeted disney the link to the original song I dont think they knew they had it archived and they could of actually used the whole thing... I mean I really cant see any other reason on why they'd skip the best song and butcher the 45 seconds of it so badly...
Fun fact: my father passed away when I was two and my mom didn't know how to explain death to me and brother. So, remembering that we loved The Lion King she told us our Dad was Mufasa. That he died like Mufasa, one of the most horrific deaths in Disney history. I still can't watch that scene still as an adult. I love teasing my mom that thank god no one else died in the family or else grandma would have been Bambi's mom and Grandpa Kerchak from Tarzan. 😂😂
Damn girl I'm sorry, that's really terrible. But I have to give you props for the way you told the story - it was savagely comical and I really feel for you. ❤

Princess Peasant Awwwww, oh my gosh that's so sad. I'm so sorry for your loss. It is a messed up part of the movie but as much as I wish Mufasa didn't die, it's nice they didn't shy away from such a serious subject. But again, I'm really sorry for your loss. It's nice your mother was able to find a way to explain his passing to you.
@@Angel_Billy4-30-23 Oh no I totally agree that they way they did his death was perfect, I wouldn't change even if I can't watch it personally. Though personally I wish my mother had maybe chose a different example to explain it to me lol.
Actually the Lionesses not helping Simba at the end never bothered me because it runs along side the lesson of "take responsiblility for your actions." I think it's supposed to show that there will be consequenses for your actions, but you can overcome them, like how Simba does when he forces Scar to admit his crime. It's not just "Be responsible for your past." it's "be responsible, but expect consequenses for things that happened in the past."
Also, this was a huge shock for them and Scar didn't give them much time to really think it over, he immediately emphasized the accusation with confidence and insistence, making the situation very confusing which lead to a stagnant crowd.
@@LV426Resident I would argue that Disney wrote themselves into a corner with this part of the story. Remember, Scar is the only one who knows Simba is innocent, so the situation needs to be treated as if Simba actually was responsible for Mufasa’s death. Therefore, our only alternative to this, is literally letting Simba get way with murder, just because he would supposedly be a better king than Scar.
Me: *lives most of his life utterly loving The Lion King* TH-cam: "Nostalgia Critic uploaded a review of The Lion King 8 seconds ago (not even kidding)" Me: "...I'm both looking forward to this and dreading it."
I always felt like Timon & Pumbaa were purposefully made to be grating, yet not enough to be hated. It gives you an idea of why Simba hangs out with them, but also gives you the impression that Simba is massively selling himself short.
I always thought Simba was misinterpreting Hakuna Matata, like it was meant to be to relax and not let your problems weigh you down whereas Simba simply took it as running away from your problems and ignoring them. Maybe that’s just me though, anyone else?
Yes, but that’s kind of the beauty of it. It was supposed to be a philosophy that helps him move on but Simba, being the broken child he is, used it as an excuse to run and avoid his issues instead. I do wish they expanded on it more in the original instead of singing about Pumba farts but its alright And Dylan, we aren’t talking about Simba as a cub... When Nala finds him and tries to bring him home to take back his throne is what we’re talking about
Fun Fact: The kid who did Simba’s singing voice in “I Just Can’t Wait To Be King” was Jason Weaver who played Pre-teen Michael Jackson in the TV film series “The Jackson’s: An America Dream” which was filmed right before Jason went to audition for The Lion King
16:47 It's actually worse than that. In a canonical prequel comic, it's revealed that Scar's real name was Taka, which means "trash" in Swahili. Mufasa's and Scar's parents literally named one of their sons King and the other Trash!
The moral isn't jacked up or misleading, just realistic. If a criminal turns himself in to the police and admits to a crime, does everyone just forgive him and pretend the past didn't happen? Or do we instead still hold them accountable for their past actions? Owning up to your mistakes/taking responsibility doesn't have anything to do with the consequences of that action.
Turamwdd We‘re literally talking about something (they thought) Simba did *as a little kid on accident.* Sure, letting the obvious bad guy who left the country in ruins drive him off a cliff is obviously the logical consequence here. Simba really deserved that one. That’ll show him to trust his family members.
Turamwdd actually admitting to the crime almost always reduces a sentence. Sometimes it’s not much but a few years off does make a difference. In parole boards they always ask the criminal to admit to their crime before an early release if they did not admit to the crime in court. Admitting to a crime is very serious in the law world-A government and politics teacher.
In the beginning of the movie they trusted scar despite his shadiness , he was considered one of their own and they couldn't fathom him wanting to kill Mufasa
I thought that joke sucked. These "LOL @SJW'S" jokes are already dated. Anti-SJW's have been more whiny than SJW's for a good year or two now. Doug should just make a anti-SJW rant channel if he wants to talk about it and stop inserting these lame jokes into his videos.
"And the sun! They need to see the SUN!" Absolutely true and SOOOOO hilarious if you think about how dumb some of the tweets people post are. Ex. "I hope my first daughter is a girl."
@@Lilarod7 I don't have a clip but I remember it distinctly. During the final act, when Woody and Buzz are trying to catch up to the moving truck, there's a brief shot of the inside of the car where the baby sees the toys in the rear-view mirror; during that shot, Hakuna Matata is playing on the car's radio.
Yeah they share a lot with Hamlet.....though I have been told these stories take more from the Tale of Sundiata Keita, a guy who (I shit you not) is known as the Lion King of Mali....
One scene that made a tremendous impact on me that nobody seems to talk about is that scene where Sarabi is summoned and walks up to Scar. She is snapped at but keeps her pride. Just the way she walks you can feel the weight she had to bare for so long. With Scar's incompetence and the burder of the Hyena's so much would have fallen on her and she had to watch her entire prideland slowly wither and die. Even despite all of that she is honest with Scar and keeps calm until he says he doesn't care if they all die.
@@achingforstrength-readings I do think that scene is incredibly strong. The devastated landscape and Simba's expressions already sell how horrible it is but Sarabi's walk truly does. It just feels so sad to see someone so strong brought low like that.
The message was that you should take responsibility for your actions AND accept the consequences. If Simba had come back and taken responsibility only for the pride to accept him and move past it would mean there weren't any consequences for his father's death. It was only when Scar revealed that he was the one who killed Mufasa did the pride turn against him fully, and that makes perfect sense.
Ravi B Maharaj I would have not gotten that message that your comment portrayed until you typed out that comment on TH-cam because I only got that interpretation from the Kingdom Hearts video game series, and not the official movie itself.
@@RoronoaZoro-ur6hrSimba wasn't really running away from responsibility in the movie. He was running away from consequences. That was the thing he had to overcome, and he did that when he returned to the pride. But because it is a disney movie those consequences were short-lived so that we could get a happy ending. But he needed to deal with his own issues before the movie could resolve the actual conflict in the story
Ah, the animated movie that literally shaped my childhood to the point where I could recite the entire script word for word. I can understand whatever criticisms the NC has for it, but it will always have a special place in my heart. As for the live action remake Disney has forsaken us with...well, I might see it out of morbid curiosity. I can’t imagine it’ll leave as much of an impact on me, but who knows. Maybe it’ll surprise us all.
Reviews aren’t exactly painting a bright picture of it. The jest of the reviews is, “Pretty special effects but the story is copy and paste without the heart.”
I relate to this comment a lot. It shaped my childhood too, I can quote it all too and I'm in love with the soundtrack. As for the new version, I'll definitely go give it a shot. I'm not expecting it to be as grand as the original and all that, but I'll go see it out of curiosity, if not just for the story and the amazing soundtrack.
I feel the exact same way about it. It's my favorite animated movie of all time. And after Mufasa's death scene was leaked, and I heard what "Be Prepared" sounds like, I have never experienced my morbid curiosity dying so quickly. Both are atrocious.
17:50 this scene is done so well even animals understand how heartbreaking it is. Sure, there's the joke of all the videos of dogs howling alongside the wolves in Zootopia, but there are so many videos animals, be they cats, dogs, birds reacting to this scene while their owners are watching it that shows animals can understand this scene too. That is worth praising this movie alone
I met Jim Cummings at a con a couple of years ago and he talked about working on this movie a lot. He seemed to recall doing more of "Be Prepared" than the last third of it (and claimed the reason Jeremy Irons couldn't sing it was because he had smoked too many cigarettes which hurt his voice), but he also has a writing credit in Hakuna Matata because he recorded Pumbaa's part for the version they played to actors auditioning the part, and he ad-libbed a portion of it that Disney liked enough to keep. What part? Yes, the fart joke part.
I might have been at that same con, Awesome Con, cuz I remember hearing Jim talk about that too. I even had him autograph the Scar photo he had on his booth for me. Such a sweet guy!
I also heard something about Irons blowing his voice out on "YOU WON'T GET A SNIFF WITHOUT ME!!!!!" making Jim Cummings do the song after that point. If you hear that part of "be prepared", that destroying your voice is quite understandable. Don't know how real it is though.
@@karagill6247 I met him at Bangor Comic and Toy Con 2017. I went to both of his panels, which were awesome and fascinating. He really is a sweet guy. Although he's done other stuff I like more, I had him sign a picture of the Winnie the Pooh crew because that's important to my family.
theSuper1Player It was Elsa’s villain song since she was supposed to be the original antagonist - “let the storm rage on” - but the creators loved it so much they changed the story.
One crucial detail that was also completly erased from the original vhs release is when mufasa says his last words to simba a column of clouds with lightnings can be seen while in the blue ray or online versions it's gone. No I didn't dream it nor I'm high at the moment as it was truly epic.
I don't see what's wrong with referring to Simba's mother. With Scar's example, his mother is a direct relation to Mufasa and Simba. Of course Simba is going to be worried what she thinks.
Nah Doug's right, the delivery of all that conflict in the end was lame
I agree with everything you said. But Dougs right about the loophole thing. Simba never really did anything wrong. It’s a hollow coming of age story
@@jacksonpauls3495 How is it hollow? It shows his growth as a character, realizing that he can’t just run away. More than that, he had misunderstood what the “Hakuna Matata” song was about.

That actually makes much more sense!

"What will your mother think?"
Simba is ashamed and guilty about his involvement in Mufasa's death, due to his impressionable young mind and how Scar pushed all the blame onto him.

@@AriInhalesSeasoning Disney Nature
Mario Beaupre well the reason they kill the cubs is to have the female lions to go into heat so they can... well have sex
"When we die, our bodies become grass, and the antelope eat the grass."
Exactly. I wish they explained it better, but it was implied that Scar's mismanagement, like bringing the hyenas in, screwed up the ecosystem.

@@MangoMagica Yeah, I was going to say.
So what was the message about eatting bugs?
Yeah. Except Hakuna Matata really does mean dodging responsibilities. As the lyric goes: "It mean no worries for the rest of your days"
@@KeybladeMasterAndy Again I think that's taking it too literally. It never says don't do anything just don't worry about it because it's in the past, that's literally half of Simba's lesson. Not to worry about it because he can't change it but rafiki says he must face it in order to see the truth.

Yeah, the critic must not hang around kids much, and have forgotten his own childhood... It's totally believable for a kid to expect his mother to hate him over a small mistake, let alone (allegedly) causing the death of his father...
Because literally no one could understand the line was child manipulation. A 4 year old knows that. The joke is that the line is still kind of odd, and oddly delivered.

I think that Scar makes the comment "What will your mother think?" because one of the worst feelings in the world is disappointing your mother (if you're close with her. I’m a furry, and I do really adore this movie. But obviously not for sexual reasons....yeesh.
Rest in Peace, James Earl Jones, AKA the greatest Disney dad that ever lived.
This sounds like fan fiction trash.
They're not canon, but the Lion King books mentioned and portray multiple Male lions in the pride in edition to Mufasa and they're much older than the show. (They make more sense too).
@@ArmednotTriggered That's why"The Lion Guard"should have been based on *those* books! #TeamKopa
Thank you!... I thought I was the only one who noticed the scent aspect.
@@brandonprater4613 It bothers me when people ask "why he doesn't kill Simba himself?". Geez, maybe because everyone would figure it out by the scent?
Wow...
Fun fact: Scar's original name was Taka. Meaning "Trash". WOW.

Yeah it makes sense with the lesson but it still doesn’t make sense within the story
Also, this was a huge shock for them and Scar didn't give them much time to really think it over, he immediately emphasized the accusation with confidence and insistence, making the situation very confusing which lead to a stagnant crowd.
So if Simba did acciently kill his father he deserves a fiery death.

@@LV426Resident I would argue that Disney wrote themselves into a corner with this part of the story. Don't Timon and Pumbaa literally say that their Hakuna Matata means "no problems" and that Simba should "leave his past behind", though?
Yes, but that’s kind of the beauty of it. It was supposed to be a philosophy that helps him move on but Simba, being the broken child he is, used it as an excuse to run and avoid his issues instead. The moral isn't jacked up or misleading, just realistic. If a criminal turns himself in to the police and admits to a crime, does everyone just forgive him and pretend the past didn't happen? One scene that made a tremendous impact on me that nobody seems to talk about is that scene where Sarabi is summoned and walks up to Scar. She is snapped at but keeps her pride. Just the way she walks you can feel the weight she had to bare for so long. That is worth praising this movie alone
That's legit incredible.
