    Appreciate the fact that you are an engineering channel that happens to incorporate 3D printers in that process. Your feedback on real world use cases, dimensional accuracy, and finish mean far more to me than some career reviewer creating baubles and useless trinkets ad nauseum. I want to know you were able to create something and what came out of the printer was usable without having to spend countless hours tinkering with the settings to get it that way.

    I'm a big fan of the growing transparency TH-camrs have been giving us viewers about sponsorships. What I'm not a big fan of though (which doesn't apply to James here), is that some will say "I got this product for free, but this is NOT a sponsored video". I heavily disagree with that statement. They get a product, usually one that costs hundreds if not thousands of bucks, for free, AND they have a product that probably isn't even available yet that they can make a video about. That seems like a pretty big sponsorship to me. It doesn't pay the bills directly, but it helps them save and earn money.

    • @csours
      @csours 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

      Sponsored has a very specific meaning - which includes control over the message. I think he quite clearly communicated that he was influenced but not controlled by the free printer.

    • @timderks5960
      @timderks5960 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

      @@csours It's probably a good idea to actually read a comment before replying to it. I literally said: "Which doesn't apply to James here".
      Also, your definition of sponsored is completely wrong, and is exactly what most TH-camrs want you to think it is. The definition of sponsored is (according to Oxford Languages): "(of a project, activity, etc.) provided with funding by a particular organization or body.". Now you could argue that they're not getting money, so no funding, but they are getting a object of value without paying for it. In my opinion, that's equal to receiving the value of the machine in money.

    • @Clough42
      @Clough42  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +81

      I think this is a really interesting topic, and it's one that the average TH-cam viewer doesn't really get to see. Social media influencers (especially those who do it full time) are operating a business where they produce content to attract an audience, and then monetize that audience to put food on their table. Ad revenue from TH-cam is usually a very small part of that. You will see TH-camrs promoting their businesses, selling products and merch, doing paid ad reads for mobile games, accepting free products, and publishing affiliate links so they can earn a commission on sales. What you can't see is that in many cases, the influencer is also being paid cash--even for a video that is presented as a product review. And honestly, I don't have an issue with that. TH-camrs have to eat, and the equipment required to produce quality video isn't cheap. The key for me is to make sure I'm being as transparent as I can be so you can understand what my motivations are and can evaluate how you feel about what I have to say.

    • @timderks5960
      @timderks5960 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      Rephrased my original comment to make it clearer I'm not accusing James of anything here. That being said: I don't have an issue with anyone getting paid for anything. The only things I have issues with is those who tell less than the truth. I don't care if somebody got paid for a review video, as long as I know about it. That video can still contain valuable information (for example some camera angles that aren't shown in any other video), even though the reviewers opinion is probably biased. In the end, my personal requirements for a review are all about reputation and cross checking. I know which channels I (think I can) trust, and I never rely on less than 3 sources.

    I have 4 AMS units connected to my X1C. In my opinion other companies NEED to enter that space and make something to compete for their own products. I can’t even consider a different printer if it doesn’t have the ability to store, automatically feed and keep dry filament.

    Those GF ABS parts look phenomenal. I think this is at the top of my list for printers I'm actually considering buying now. The X-Plus 3 was on the list before, but this seems even a step better. The main reason I want a new printer is an enclosure and the ability to print more advanced materials. Speed and Klipper features are nice too.

    The bambu lab printers don't do 256 x 256 mm printing, even though they say so. You have to print an adaptor and tell it not to use the filament cutter to use that front left corner... So, print volume is about the same on the QIDI as it is on a stock Bambu Lab X1 or other printer.

    Great video! I was trying to decide between x-plus 3, Adventurer 5m pro and the P1S. Now I have this one to look at too. So I will be printing parts for RC airplanes and around the woodshop. I will need to print glass fiber nylon, abs cf, tpu, pet cf and petg. I don't want to tinker with it. I want to print parts for other hobbies, not get a 3D printer hobby. Which do you recommend? Max budget for printer is $700 since I will need to buy a filament dryer and filament.

    I never printed or needed multimaterial ever. But recently I watched a video where the support was printed using a different filament type and it peeled right off. For ABS/ASA (any other filament is pretty much useless for everyday applications) it is necessary to have heated bed+chamber and for parts to come out perfect the multimaterial option is a must have too. But it was good to see how strong the bambu team kicked the door on 3d printers and made others produce sub 500$ "starting to be usable" quality.

  • @osgeld
    @osgeld 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    if you want to tinker and never print more than PLA maybe PETG, there's always the ender series, with a decent profile it can go pretty fast with decent results ... that's what I have and I think for someone who is on the fence with getting a 3d printer it might be a good first choice. For those of us with more cad experience and more uses outside of printing trinkets I agree there's options, IMO this would be a good choice for my 2nd 3d printer ... but as little as I use my little 200$ ender 3 im not in the market (don't get me wrong when I use a printer I use it a ton ... then for a while it sits there being a dust collecting table weight)

    Great review!
    Just a note on the lack of “instant print cancel”. This is actually a Klipper limitation / quirk. I run into it occasionally in my custom home built Klipper powered printer. The issue with it acting oddly after a cancel during a bed level operation is also Klipper related. I usually restart the Klipper service from the menu to ensure I don’t have issues for the next attempt.
    I am surprised they went with the Fluidd UI over Mainsail though, the former doesn’t get anywhere near the same level of developer support and IMO isn’t as intuitive to use.

    Two complaints that I saw Angus make over on Maker's Muse, were that the door has no (or not obvious) handle for opening it, and his concern over removing the reverse bowden to clip the filament when reloading, specifically as that is likely to cause failure of the fastener for the tube.
    I don't know if there are differences in the samples they released, but he noted that the end of the revers bowden, at the spool had a fitting on it, like it may have a futuer for either an mmu of some sort, or possibly a dry box for the filament, possibly both.
    I'd love to get one, but I'm still working out how to get health insurance after being retired from my career. 3dPrinting may be a part of my future income stream, but I'm not currently counting on that. In any case I have a benched Creality K1 That still has extrusion issues after replacing the extruder stepper, may get that fixed with the new hot end, but that looks 'interesting' to fix. And I've got a CR-10S for large format, and an Ender 3v3 SE for PLA and PET-G variants. It claims it can print other materials, may try TPU, but not impressed with doing anything with ASA or ABS while the printer isn't in a vented (to outside) enclosure as long as it's in my "man cave." The room where I have my gaming and streaming setup as well as an overloaded electronics bench, synthesizer, and an entire corner that my lack of control over clutter has made effectively unusable. So the K1 may be on the bench for a while.

      There is actually a guide for completely replacing the stock Debian Buster OS to Debian Bookworm and installing vanilla Klipper using Kiauh to the latest mainline Klipper if you so wish. I've done this myself. You even get to keep the original screen's functionality but thumbnails on the screen don't appear to work afterwards as the only real downside. Search for Issue 27 for the Qidi X-Plus 3 repository on the website where the source code is hosted. The same procedure should work for the Q1 Pro.
      Don't try to update the stock Klipper that it comes installed with, as that will break the stock install, but as above, you can grab a 32GB eMMC and swap it all over to the latest OS/Klipper.

    I feel like I make this same comment on every heated chamber 3D printer video, but I really want one of these mass manufacturers to make a printer with a 90C+ chamber and preferably a 410C+ extruder. Even with a standard 300C extruder, the difference between printing large (non-fiber filled) polycarbonate pieces at 60C and 90C chamber temps is night and day in terms of warping, and 410C+ would open up the world of almost all filaments. The stratasys heated chamber/bellows patent has expired, and I'd buy an open source Method-X equivalent in a minute. There's really nothing in the 90C+ chamber market for under $5000 (Funmat HT or Makerbot Method-X, which is a poor man's stratasys).

    • @stew675
      @stew675 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      This was actually the fault of a search and replace script In only appeared in a single release version of the slicer. The issue was already reported to Qidi (I reported it) and they acknowledged the mistake and fixed it immediately in the source code. When looking through the change set history it was very clear that this wasn't an intentional act. The Prusa Slicer was properly attributed in all prior and all subsequent versions of their slicer software.

    Well I definitely can't recommend this printer to anyone, I got burned on mine. Out of the box it immediately locks up if I select the Folder menu option. There's a newer firmware but it won't find/install it from the USB drive. I've successfully printed one test job from QIDI Slicer but the printer screen switches to the Folder menu locking up again and I have to power cycle to get it back. So far QIDI Tech is giving me the run around and I'm getting that sick feeling in my gut that I've been had.
    My recommendation is to steer far a wide away from Q1 Pro until it matures hopefully. It looks like I'm out $600 on this printer and I certainly can't afford to invest in another brand. You've been warned!

    • @Crusher9mil
      @Crusher9mil หลายเดือนก่อน

      Update: After more than a week of emailing back and forth with tech support I was able to finally flash a version of firmware onto the printer, it wouldn't flash the latest version. Once that was done I successfully flashed it two more times and got to the latest, 4.4.16. Then I've manually leveled the bed, ran auto level then printed a first layer test with ABS and it came out almost perfect. I printed some other tests then I was off to production. I've since printed all the parts for a 4 spool dry box and assembled it. Now I've got 5 spolls locked and loaded. It wasn't looking good for awhile but Gidi Tech support stuck with it and I've now got an excellent printer cranking out parts.

      Early commenters pointed out that I should check to make sure the bike was legal where I live. On further investigation (which I unfortunately didn't think to do in advance) I discovered that this particular class of bike is banned by local ordinance. I worked with the manufacturer to try to reconfigure it to be compliant, but this turned out not to be possible. The company begged me to leave the video up, but I made the decision to take it down, return it to the manufacturer, and walk away from any potential income from the affiliate link. That was three weeks of my life testing, filming, and editing wasted because I didn't think to check that something being offered for sale where I live was actually legal to use.
