Ana is a support counter to hog - hog is a giant circle of a hit box that can't be missed and has zero blocking capabilities, but can self heal. That self-heal is out the window with Ana and all she has to do is read his hooks and not get captured into one and if things get a little too dice, she can sleep hog and up close it would be harder to miss as Ana against a hog rather than hit him.
I would argue that Mauga is a mix of a poke and a brawl tank bc even tho he can do damage from a distance he really wants to be in the enemies face to maximize his potential
So I don't think the version we played would count as a hybrid brawl/poke tank. While mauga was most deadly in point blank range, I don't think he was most effective there. My reasoning boils down to the fact that orisa, who is a hybrid, wants to take the first engagement she can to close the distance. Mauga was too easy to kill or deny value from if you didn't poke out resources before he engaged. So mauga could run in, but you would often wait to run in until the last engagement possible. Thus, he is built like a poke tank.
I have a main in each role, and then my “sub main” I try to choose one a little different in style. This ensures a smaller hero pool to allow me to improve them faster, and also allows me some diversity in our compositions. For example: Support Main - Moira Support 2nd - Brigette/Ana DPS Main - Mei DPS 2nd - Sojourn Tank main - Winston Tank 2nd - Zarya I tried to keep a balance between using heroes I love to play (most important!) and diverse enough to synergise with team comps.
I’m literally the same way as you I have a “main” for each role but then I always keep a backup or 2 for each role because obviously my main isn’t always gonna work
Funnily enough with the Queen example, in team play, it can absolutely work in maps like Suravasa where everyone takes angles while Queen and Lucio (which I was playing) stick together for a speed engage onto the backline and evetually collapse onto the enemy team. Thing with those comps is that it requires the correct comp (absolutely no Mercy, Zen, LW, Ana or anything that does not belong in a dive or without any high mobility) and a high level of coordination.
I get why no one with a low mobility but... why no mercy? She has great mobility! It's almost her entire point to have great mobility. So thats clearly not the reason why she does not belong there?
@@catycat2309 Generally, Mercy does not belong in a dive. She has great mobility but since you don't have a good target to pocket and you put yourself in a lot of danger during dives, she doesn't really work. Moira and Lucio were picked because Lucio has speed engages and self-sustain, and Moira has self-sustain, slight DPS potential and works better overall. It's just that in team play, everyone tries to choose the most optimal picks for the specific comp and Mercy Lucio is not a comp anyone wants to run ever.
Dive really need a good coordination, out of all the time I played a dive hero (Sombra or tracer), only one time I remember that me (tracer) and a Sombra manage to coordinate with each other on dive and it works so well (except when me dying because accidentally messed up the blink), but only on that one time, I'm gonna miss that sombra 😔🙏🏻
@@catycat2309for dive comp, the hero that being choosed are preferably the one that can sustain and do damage because they always jump on one enemy each time to kill them So mercy it's not good, since she mostly used for is damage boosting and healing, unless you have valk and go pew pew, but prefer pick for support is Lucio (for speed as the other person said) Moira, for extra DPS during dive and also survivability, and kiriko, which is the same reason as Moira
For me my weakness is reloading at the worst time I’m always worried about running out of bullets so I usually play Dva to not have to worry about that.
@P-39_Airacobra man ima start doing this for everything. "That seems like an easy problem to fix just don't die." "Seems like an easy problem just click on their heads"
I get the struggle! I play Hammond so it’s not really a problem, Ashe its okay because you kinda need that bad habit to play her well, and I play Brig/LW so again doesn’t really affect me much. I’d say just look for characters where it won’t effect you negatively if you can’t seem to stop the bad habit
99.9% of overwatch players do NOT need to know what a main or flex support is. Seriously, this is strictly a scrim/pro concept. For nearly everyone climbing in ranked, support players should be thinking in terms of tank supporters and squishy supporters. Bap, Ana, Kiri, Weaver can all sustain a tank much easier than a Brig, Lucio, Zen, or Mercy. Most ladder comps are going to need at least one tank supporter on their team. For context, I'm a low Master support Edit since many of you seem to be confused: Main/flex supports are pro/scrim terms that refer to the actual HUMAN PLAYERS on a pro team and their playable hero pools. Main/flex support does NOT refer to the in game heroes. Main support players will play Lucio. Main support players don't play Baptiste. Lucio is not a Tank sustaining hero. Baptiste is. Do you see the distinction here? So miss me with the "you're just changing the names" comments. It shows you don't get it
I'm glad you explained your full argument instead of saying "Low tier too dumb to understand Main/Flex support concept." The Tank and Squishy supporter terminology are very good for simplifying the concept.
@@FuzzyDovely I'm not simplifying the concept. They are two different concepts. A main support is not simply a tank support, as I put it, nor is it always a main healer. A squishy support isn't always a flex support. There is hero overlap with the two different approaches
I also think about it it that way. As long as one support can sustain a tank, the other can be aggressive. I play kiriko on supp and whether I’m healing or dpsing depends on my other support. Although I dont trust LW’s heals too much lol
i like to play mages and healers in rpg and mmos. for overwatch 2 i havent been able to find a champion like that. When i play Ashe or another gunner i feel like Halo 3, so that helps. I also liked Echo being able to fly like some rpg games. But the game moves so fast and my reactions are naturally slow . Im an older gamer so still trying to find the right pick for me. This vid i wish i had months ago! :D thank you :)
After watching this this makes so much sense to understand that my play style is tracking/high mobility cause on tank I mostly play Zarya and orisa, dps I play sombra, soldier, and sym, and as a support main I learned to play them all for any given situation but typically avoid Zen and illari
tbh i dont understand my mains, because my best tank is dva, my best dps is sombra, and my best support is mercy. though, im good at jq, orisa, ram, cass and ashe, and kiri..
I think mauga would fit more in line with brawl, with the ability to poke. I don’t think he’s a poke tank. He’s got a dash to close distance and stun enemies, and his two guns create a giant spread with high damage Plus his ultimate requires close engagement to get the most out of it
But his dash is also his escape option. He gets shut down by nade, shields, discord and poking dps, so he can't really brawl. If he brawls Ramattra, example, Ram just drops his shield when Mauga uses his health steal ability and mauga gets no value. Reinhardt can choose engagements and shield off damage, letting his damage pick off Maugas team. I think he's more poke hero than brawl
This video is really helpful, and it's got me thinking about what kind of play style I like. I'm finding I generally go with brawl heroes, as I main JQ for Tank and Lucio for Support. Now, I'm trying to look through the DPS and find which heroes fit into brawl the most while still retaining the movement mechanics I enjoy.
KROW has a great video of a similar topic called "There Are ONLY 3 Compositions in Overwatch - Rock Paper Scissors Meta Theory", he goes over the main composition playstyles, and how most of the heroes fit into them (including a chart), it's really really good!! (He's also got a similar video specifically on Tanks, each of their playstyles, and all their matchups with eachother, it's good!) Based on JQ, Lucio, and Brawl mobility heroes, you might enjoy Reaper! He's good in both Brawl (also called Rush) and Dive, he shares your shotgun mechanics from JQ (as well as the survivability with lifesteal just for hitting shots not abilities, and wraith is kinda like shout but you're phased out instead of tankier), he's got some nice mobility with his teleport and wraith form, he seems like he might be worth trying for you! Other ideas could be - Cassidy (good Rush DPS, a touch of mobility, kinda similar aim style to JQ but more range) - Junkrat (high mobility, can be played in Rush, aims kinda like JQ's knives lmao, idk the vibes kinda feel right) - Genji (less focused on rush but hes got a lot of mobility, and while hes more focused on abilities than his weapon like Tracer is, his aim style is mainly like Lucio's with his alt fire aim style being kinda like JQ!)
13:40 i main tracer and had bast soldier and echo as my secondary options. Both kinda helped me to play tracer better, bc soldier made me notice how recall is actually much more powerful than i thought and echo helped me learn more about timing on dive
While DPS and support are playing checkers tank is playing chess you need to use mind games to make it work in your favor. Play a tank that can be countered by the hero that's countered by your main if you rub it out as long as you can it can force the opponent tank to not realize the flip in pace. I told my duo step by step how the game is going to work out. Make your self the "easy target" to evolve into the raid boss you were always ment to be
I love how reaper is never mentioned with dive or brawl even though he does both. And I’d say a reaper with Genji or tracer is more deadly than tracer and Genji together. More burst damage and he’s tanky.
His movement is much more limited to cool downs, whereas tracer is able to blink at a high rate and genji has wall climb double jump ledge grab and a dash
I love RamRam. He can stay back & poke, shield his team, deny space with vortex, go all punchy boi & brawl. He is not the strongest, but he is jack of all, master of none.
I recently started playing and as a former Scout main I immediately fell in love with the Tracer style. I'm just trying to add a tank and support to my roster so I can more easily adapt to different situations
I feel like you need a main for every type of comp to be viable in any situation. So one dive one poke and one rush of any class for each hero. And find whichever you feel comfortable with. And if it’s your weakest role you just need to coordinate with your team to make up your lack of weakness.
Now it kinda made sense that I was good at Tracer without putting much time into her because I already like playing Zarya and Soldier. I was a little bit confused at first why it worked so well. :D I also try to get the fundamentals of each or at least a few heroes for team synergy. Coming from a long time Mercy main throughout Ow1: As tank I'm probably best at Zarya but I also play Orisa, Queen, (Hog - didn't try rework yet) and a tiny bit Dva. Ram is fine too but definitely not my best. For Dps I like playing Soldier, Ashe, Hanzo, Tracer and Mei! Absolutely love Mei and my aim probably helps a ton. Killing a flying Mercy with 2 headshots just feels a-mei-zing. :D And as I said, I was kinda confused at first how well Tracer worked for me. Same with widow but she's hitscan so I shouldn't have that hard of a time. As support I played a ton of Mercy when I first started. I guess playing her helped a ton because you really look out for your team and your enemies and understand how the game plays out. When I started to branch out, I tried Moira, loved her mobile playstyle and tried out Bap, Kiri and Ana after that. Same here: My aim helped a ton and friends already told me my out-of-spawn-nades across the map are incredible. Heroes I absolutely can't play on the other hand: Winston, Ball, Genji, Echo, Torb, Lucio (I'd say I wouldn't play him in my ranked games because that would be throwing - diamond). Sym, Sombra. My Junkrat is mediocre at best. lol
This really helps! Thx! I got to concentrate on how I wanna challenge the enemy! I gotta force my playstyle! Playing on my terms not their's. Support I still feel like it's very difficult!
Love you mills but gotta disagree about the dps point you made. If you’re a tracer player there’s no reason at all to learn sombra bc if tracer isn’t working neither will sombra and vice versa. Great vid overall though
A great example of where this isn't true: Illari. Tracer struggles with her, while Sombra with Virus and the Pilon changes has a great matchup into her.
@@randoomain7485 sombras hack is only 1.5 seconds it’s pretty weak. I bully doom way harder on reaper funny enough. I think sombra needs a better hack or stronger ultimate to be a powerful character. She is pretty mid right now especially against good players or teams
I just recently picked up O2 after about three years away from overwatch. No particular reason just drifted away. And while some characters I play were unchanged some were uncrecognizable sadly. I cant olay with Symmetra or Torb at all anymore and they used to be my go to dps. Lucio still feels the same thank god. And Zen feels better than ever even though i couldn't tell you whats changed. But yeah mainly i can't really get back into my old flow. I have a few moments where i can feel confident in my game but most of the time im just not there anymore. This is a game that truly rewards practice.
not tracking, requires good clicking, you don't track a target with torb, you aim at the head and click, tracking is when you need to keep your crosshair at the target to keep doing damage and that's not the case with torb, this doesn't mean you don't need to aim with torb, it means it's a different style of aim and you won't benefit (in terms of aim) from playing sombra/soldier
How I group the dps Classic - hit scan or very similar to hit scan have a burst like mobility that you see in "classic" fps games hence the name like sprint, slide, roll (ex solider 76, Cassidy, sojourn and Ashe) Range (characters that use mobility both vertical and horizontal to get angles and view points to pick off enemies ,with weapons that allow for longer range attacks (Hanzo, echoe, phaorah, Widowmaker) Flankers character that use mobility to both get to side or behind of enemies line and also to escape when needed with weapons more effective close range (reaper , genji, tracer, Sombra) Utility characters with abilities that provide some sort of support for themselves or allies in some capacity (turrets, teleporter landmines) these usually have there "HP" so to speak and operate without the player needing to control it (tourborn, sym, bastion, junkrat) Obviously with how the games plays and such there are units that may fit somewhat in other categories or don't fit in squarely into the one they are put into for example bastion IS his utility device and he turns into a turret instead of laying one out but subversions like these make the game more interesting and they still fit there respective placing just with a more nuance also the only one I didn't place was mei that's because I'm still on edge if she fits in to any of these she would be utility if any but she's really more defensive or to me she's remind me more of a tank then anything else (barrier, short range primary, self sustaining ability)
11:30 bro, this is sooooo true! i did stard to main tracer some months ago and my genji / sombra plays started getting much better. Learn tracer also made me learn a lot about strategt in general
@@artanis1013 months later and now im locking genji and tracer on every map i can(sometimes i swap soldier to deal with pharmercys my team can't deal with)
Okay, I really needed this beat into my head. I do struggle with aim, but I've been trying to use Ana and Illari as my support main characters. I think I need to try Mercy more, and maybe Lucio and Wifeleaver. I like Ana's kit, because denial and forcing people to consider resources is something I enjoy (Sigma is my main tank, though I also really like Ram). For DPS, I usually end up running Bastion just because he feels like a little powerhouse, but I need to try Mei more, I think.
When playing with your team, lucio does not require much aim. If you play reddit lucio (going in their backline, flanking, distracting the enemies) You'll need aim and really good wall riding.
"these characters dont have any way to take a high ground out of nowhere" Me, on pharah, getting pinned by a rein in midair, that my junkrat boosted into the sky: you sure about that bud?
I like to poke people from a distance but i also love dropping in on them and just getting an elimination and i recently started playing echo and shes perfect for me. Asides from her i also play a lot of off support and hanzo
I mainly play tank and support but when it comes to dps I’m just good at sym. I’m trying to play other dps, but I’m just inefficient at any others 😭. I mean I’ve played other Overwatch hero’s and did good, but not THAT great. Any tips would be appreciated, though this video did help.
I’m sorry I’m a decent *Sojourn* player, (gold 5 type of skill) and she is not long range not even close. Her bullets are not concentrated like, Hanzo, Ashe, McCree (Cassidy), or Widowmaker! She excels at medium, but is possible for her to maneuver into medium-long! *DEFINITELY NOT LONG!*
It seems *Soldier 76* does the same thing as well, their bullets shoot like this ┏┏╋╋╋ ╋╋┓ _ー_ー ┗╋╋╋╋ ┛┗┛ _ー_ー ╭╯..|| ╯ ╰━..|| while the long range people shoot like... ┏┏╋╋╋ ╋╋┓ => ┗╋╋╋╋ ┛┗┛ ╭╯..|| ╯ ╰━..||
my problem is i like to play hanzo, mei or sombra but if the match doesnt run good for me, i allways go back to my safe pick, reaper. for me reaper is a absolute beginner class and i dont want to play him, but in the end if i need to to most of the work i switch to him and do my job.
I started to ow2 months ago and im still strugling to choose my main , i started to play pharah first and shes still my the most played hero but im really struggling when the enemy counter picks me, so i changed my mains to hitscans like ashe and soldier. I played them sometime but i didnt enjoyed them as much as pharah and last week i started to play mei and she so fun and i liked her survivalibility and ice wall ability . But sometimes i cant do nothing and i change hitscan again. I think bastion is the most viable option for me but im not sure, what do you think about it?
So my mains are: Tank - 1) Orisa, 2) Dva, and lately I have liked new addition of Mauga Damage - 1) Symmetra, 2) Sombra, 3) Junkrat Support - 1a) Moira, 1b) Mercy, 2) Lucio Personally I feel like after thinking about it and watching this video mobility is the thing that matters most to me as I like to get in people’s face and take them out, but be able to dip out if I feel threatened, and personally I am not a long range combatant for the most part, so what would that make me and what characters do you think fit that in each role?
so what characters should i be playing if im a widow main? i’m very flexible and am good with a lot of heroes, but im still kinda confused. i like being widow because i dont have to worry about when to jump into a fight, but im also very great with characters that require that such as genji. what heroes would i benefit most from and what style?
you forgor ramattra. so you will suffer as him, ramattra, have suffered your torment will outlast the stars when the univerese dwindles into dust, there you will be, still suffering as him have... suffffffered
Genji and Widow actually overlap a bit. Sure you don't have mobility with Widow, nor the range with Genji, but the mechanical "flick" playstyle is actually pretty similar in both of them. I'd even go to say that the similarities are so relevant, that if someone is good at either, then they're bound to be great at the other; even less so than a Tracer/Genji swap or an Ashe/Widow swap.
I've played a lot of brawl tanks, but ive found (after uears of playing) that really, i hyper focus on one target, team be damned. Ive been having a lot of fun learning dva/winton. I can feed, and gtfo. Too bad ball sucks rn lol. When i first started i was a rein main. Then i learned flanking, became a zarya hog main. Now in OW2 dive kinda is the best of both.
Damage dealer, basically played to like Reaper. Daggers from off angle and teleport to get away when the heat is too much whilst also healing your team
I’m still having a hard time who to play as on dps. I used to be a Pharah main back in Overwatch 1 but now with one tank I don’t feel as viable anymore. Lately I’ve been playing Ashe Reaper soldier and sometiems Torb and widow if we need distance fire. So far those are my playstyles and I don’t know what category they would be called. As for supports I’m a Bap main all the way I feel super comfortable with him even if he has long cool downs. I usually focus mainly on my primary and heals anyway so it doesn’t matter to me.
i used to be the type of person to have a main, but now it literally depends on my mood. well, i do have ppl im best as: dva (occasionally jq, ram, orisa), sombra (occasionally ashe/cass), and mercy (occasionally kiriko), and i pick my role based on mood LMFAO
If you want to get better aim, just play the game. If you want to get better hitscan aim, then just play hitscans, and if you want better projectile aim, its more of a hero to hero basis! Warm up before games helps too.
I play Sigma and Kiriko almost exclusively because they never get nerfed below A Tier. Simple as that. I'm not going to play Zenyatta or Roadhog because for a couple weeks they're broken and then Blizzard nerfs them to C or D Tier.
I have to disagree a little bit when you say it doesn't make sense to main different playstyle characters. For example, if you only main Genji/Tracer/Sombra and the enemy team has D.va, Brig, Torb, Mei and Illari. Then you are in a situation where you basically can't do anything because the only characters you play are all too similar and get shut down by the same things.
i need a role that is impactful but also allows me to help get picks and requires me to keep getting better at aiming and tracking so what role do you think that is?
From a (casual) experience player, I'd say the best one for you is either Bastion, Soldier, or Sojourn. They are a bit good in the frontlines, but with team support, you can easily pick off enemies at a mid distance. Plus, the radius of their bullets are real small, requiring you to get better at aiming as well as tracking.
hanzo was very different with his bullet drop similar to torbjorn, noticeably different. when they changed the way his arrows aim, hit and drop, and their speed. it literally fucked me so hard. he was a lot harder to play because of the said drop and sooo different to other dps. now he's almost a hs speed, almost the same, and at a time replaced mcree completely with his revamp.
So if my top pics are Soldier, Tracer and Genji, the overlapping parts are the high mobility of genji and the tracking of soldier which shows that I am quite adapt to playing tracer right?
I’ve noticed that I always try to play hanzo/soujourn. But i play waaaaaay better on Ashe and soldier. Lol maybe I need to be more realistic with myself and give up the dream
great vid, but all of that still confusing to me, like my most played hero is Sombra, but I'm still bad at her no matter what I do and on the other side I have Venture with 5-10 hours and every time I pick them, I pop off I want to be great Sombra main but my skill just goes the other way :")
Not gonna lie, for me the supports that I've played so far: If you know how to play mercy, you can kinda play Lucio (mostly understand the wall ride and speed and heal button) If you know how to play ana, you can play Baptiste or the other way around (also can help you practice DPS if you start with support role) Zen so far I don't know any relations, but DPS balls, Baptiste and ana since you need to aim Kiriko is more like illari on how to dps (idk if flank still count), suzu is like ana grenade (immo from bap can work, but immo last longer than suzu, so I'm not counting him) Illari for the turret is basically like how you want to put immo field, basically at the place where enemy having hard time destroying, for DPS, can be like kiriko (sidelines or flank, still don't know if still possible) or ana/bap (poking from the backline) Baptiste, basically like ana/illari because of shooting, he can be also used if the person who started from support role want to try get use for a bit DPS role, immo like suzu, but last longer so second early is safe, can climb to high ground easily like kiriko with his boots Lucio is like the above, mercy, except on the ground, instead of keep yourself alive while gliding/floating/ flying, this one you need to abuse speed boost and learn wall riding, if people used to mercy ga mechanic, they can understand Lucio wall ride guide easily and maybe try rollouts, they both also have two thing which is able to switch the healing, if you used to mercy damage boost healing mechs, understand the Lucio when to use speed and heal is a bit faster, Brig also hard like zen, because she's the only one with melee, cannot really categorize which support can compare to her, I guess the healing can be compare to Moira yellow spray, which has limited usage and long charge (but it's not getting recharge back like Moira) but other than that, I guess that's all, her role is to protect the other supp or backline hero from dive, and use whiplash for area heal (basically peeling for heals), yeah And I forgot about the queen of sucking herself, Moira, I guess..... Moira.. is just Moira? All I know is like kiriko/illari, play flank or sidelines but other than that, Moira?😂 So yeah, behold my long essay on the support I played so far and try to understand, there's might be error, but hey, everything is not perfect xD
Me: watching to see if im using the wrong main knowing im doing really damn good with my current ones (Used to try forcing reaper as my main cause of nerdouts reaper song before settling on junkrat)
I play every role with tank being my least played just cuz it's so miserable sometimes playing tank right now, but I mainly like brawl/dive as poke is just freaking boring to play and reminds me too much of goats/double shield. I mainly stick to projectile/specialist heroes cuz my aim sucks on PC compared to my aim on console. For dps I mainly play Mei/Junkrat/Soldier if they go Pharah and their movement is decent enough, otherwise I'll go Sym as I'm good with "sniping" with hers and Mei's secondary fire 🤣. For Support it's easily Moira,Ana, Kiriko and it's funny as Ana is really the only hitscan I'm good with and carry a consistent 60% win rate with her which is kinda funny imo. For tank Dva/JQ/Zarya for the rare times I get Dva diffed, idk what my hero choices mean other than my aim sucks and I rely heavily on my game knoweledge 🙃. My old man relfexes ain't what they used to be so I have to play projectile/more anticipation like shots sadly lol as even though I've been playing fps games for so long I'm just not as good on PC.
Things that confuse me Millisis about Mauga if he’s made to be a poke tank then what is the point of his charge? To me he feels more like a poke Brawl rush hybrid tank. You shoot first and poke. Once the team is vulnerable you charge in then use your heal damage ability. At least that’s how I see it.
@Coach_Mills. All due respect my braddah 1:46 completely disagree with identifying Mauga as a Poke Tank. He does have the capability to poke, but his kit is designed for disrupting the enemy team and creating space for his own team. Mauga excels at "DIVING" into the enemy backline, aggro all focus, disrupting their positioning, and drawing attention away from his teammates. Like 95% of Mauga players you also do not understand how the Uso is meant to be played. Again no disrespect braddah.
Then you have us Sym mains who don’t fit into any category and we just do our own thing lol. Also is Ashe a hits an when her shots are labeled hyper projectile? This means her shots, even when sights line up, can still miss a moving target.
21:01 that's crazy, ana just 1v1ing a hog and winning
that hog was so blind lmao
as a beginner player and tracer, its players like that ana that scare me 😭😭

Thank you both a lot! That makes sense :D
I like how Rammatra didnt even make the list in the tank role lol
He's poke and brawl mix
And Roadhog
DLC just got released for it.
Didn't see Kiriko either.
@@VivaporuCubanoif mauga was released then ram was def out
For me my weakness is reloading at the worst time I’m always worried about running out of bullets so I usually play Dva to not have to worry about that.
That sounds like a really easy to fix problem though, just stop reloading so much
@P-39_Airacobra man ima start doing this for everything. "That seems like an easy problem to fix just don't die."
"Seems like an easy problem just click on their heads"
@@P-39_Airacobra someone is worried about running out of bullets.
Random guy: just don't reload bruh
I get the struggle! I play Hammond so it’s not really a problem, Ashe its okay because you kinda need that bad habit to play her well, and I play Brig/LW so again doesn’t really affect me much. I’d say just look for characters where it won’t effect you negatively if you can’t seem to stop the bad habit
Play ashe to get better
99.9% of overwatch players do NOT need to know what a main or flex support is. Seriously, this is strictly a scrim/pro concept. For nearly everyone climbing in ranked, support players should be thinking in terms of tank supporters and squishy supporters. Bap, Ana, Kiri, Weaver can all sustain a tank much easier than a Brig, Lucio, Zen, or Mercy. Most ladder comps are going to need at least one tank supporter on their team. For context, I'm a low Master support
Edit since many of you seem to be confused: Main/flex supports are pro/scrim terms that refer to the actual HUMAN PLAYERS on a pro team and their playable hero pools. Main/flex support does NOT refer to the in game heroes. Main support players will play Lucio. Main support players don't play Baptiste. Lucio is not a Tank sustaining hero. Baptiste is. Do you see the distinction here? So miss me with the "you're just changing the names" comments. It shows you don't get it
I'm glad you explained your full argument instead of saying "Low tier too dumb to understand Main/Flex support concept."
The Tank and Squishy supporter terminology are very good for simplifying the concept.
@@Htiydoesn’t he have the highest healing output in the game?💀
Understanding the styles of your comp is important, tho.
i like to play mages and healers in rpg and mmos. for overwatch 2 i havent been able to find a champion like that. When i play Ashe or another gunner i feel like Halo 3, so that helps. I also liked Echo being able to fly like some rpg games. But the game moves so fast and my reactions are naturally slow . Im an older gamer so still trying to find the right pick for me. This vid i wish i had months ago! :D thank you :)
lifeweaver plays almost exactly like a moba/rpg support/mage he sits far away and casts his healing
He’s got a dash to close distance and stun enemies, and his two guns create a giant spread with high damage
Plus his ultimate requires close engagement to get the most out of it
But his dash is also his escape option.
(He's also got a similar video specifically on Tanks, each of their playstyles, and all their matchups with eachother, it's good!)
Based on JQ, Lucio, and Brawl mobility heroes, you might enjoy Reaper!
Other ideas could be
- Cassidy (good Rush DPS, a touch of mobility, kinda similar aim style to JQ but more range)
- Junkrat (high mobility, can be played in Rush, aims kinda like JQ's knives lmao, idk the vibes kinda feel right)
- Genji (less focused on rush but hes got a lot of mobility, and while hes more focused on abilities than his weapon like Tracer is, his aim style is mainly like Lucio's with his alt fire aim style being kinda like JQ!)
Make your self the "easy target" to evolve into the raid boss you were always ment to be
Hear me out. Unless ur going pro, it doesn’t matter what ur playing as long as ur having fun.
I agree 100%
Factss but my teams lowkey verbally abuse me if i dont get kills😭 lmaoo
@@EmolaIcechip genuinely I find it amusing when they do that
I love how reaper is never mentioned with dive or brawl even though he does both.
With this I've learned that Junkrat, Genji and especially REAPER is my calling I've performed phenomenally with each
Mills at 5am lets go 🗣🔥💯‼️
I feel like you need a main for every type of comp to be viable in any situation. So one dive one poke and one rush of any class for each hero. And find whichever you feel comfortable with. And if it’s your weakest role you just need to coordinate with your team to make up your lack of weakness.
I refuse to swap off of junkrat
Now it kinda made sense that I was good at Tracer without putting much time into her because I already like playing Zarya and Soldier. I was a little bit confused at first why it worked so well. :D
I also try to get the fundamentals of each or at least a few heroes for team synergy.
Coming from a long time Mercy main throughout Ow1:
As tank I'm probably best at Zarya but I also play Orisa, Queen, (Hog - didn't try rework yet) and a tiny bit Dva. Ram is fine too but definitely not my best.
For Dps I like playing Soldier, Ashe, Hanzo, Tracer and Mei! Absolutely love Mei and my aim probably helps a ton. Killing a flying Mercy with 2 headshots just feels a-mei-zing. :D
And as I said, I was kinda confused at first how well Tracer worked for me.
My Junkrat is mediocre at best. lol
What was that dva ult around 4:50?
Thats what I was thinking bru
Why are you shouting
I was thinking this same thing 😂
He‘s an overwatch player…
So that the people in the back could hear him.
Bloody finnish Dictionary word named ones
This really helps! Thx! I got to concentrate on how I wanna challenge the enemy! I gotta force my playstyle! Playing on my terms not their's.
Support I still feel like it's very difficult!
Coach mills got me from silver to Diamond just watching his videos you can do it too
Great video, also I love the fire emblem music in the background!
If I had to choose a second support or off support I like lucio for his utility I feel like I can really help a team out with his speed.
Until your team cry’s and throws because your not heal botting lol
Love you mills but gotta disagree about the dps point you made. If you’re a tracer player there’s no reason at all to learn sombra bc if tracer isn’t working neither will sombra and vice versa. Great vid overall though
Couldn’t sombra access high ground easier and tracer be better on flat maps?
A great example of where this isn't true: Illari.
Tracer struggles with her, while Sombra with Virus and the Pilon changes has a great matchup into her.
Sombra shuts down Doomfist pretty hard
Here are my mains for each role
Tank: mauga, zarya
DPS: soldier, Sombra
Support: bap, ana
13:54 im sorry but torb definitely requires good tracking with his primary fire
not tracking, requires good clicking, you don't track a target with torb, you aim at the head and click, tracking is when you need to keep your crosshair at the target to keep doing damage and that's not the case with torb, this doesn't mean you don't need to aim with torb, it means it's a different style of aim and you won't benefit (in terms of aim) from playing sombra/soldier
love the under night OST in the background
How I group the dps
Classic - hit scan or very similar to hit scan have a burst like mobility that you see in "classic" fps games hence the name like sprint, slide, roll (ex solider 76, Cassidy, sojourn and Ashe)
Range (characters that use mobility both vertical and horizontal to get angles and view points to pick off enemies ,with weapons that allow for longer range attacks (Hanzo, echoe, phaorah, Widowmaker)
Flankers character that use mobility to both get to side or behind of enemies line and also to escape when needed with weapons more effective close range (reaper , genji, tracer, Sombra)
Utility characters with abilities that provide some sort of support for themselves or allies in some capacity (turrets, teleporter landmines) these usually have there "HP" so to speak and operate without the player needing to control it (tourborn, sym, bastion, junkrat)
Obviously with how the games plays and such there are units that may fit somewhat in other categories or don't fit in squarely into the one they are put into for example bastion IS his utility device and he turns into a turret instead of laying one out but subversions like these make the game more interesting and they still fit there respective placing just with a more nuance also the only one I didn't place was mei that's because I'm still on edge if she fits in to any of these she would be utility if any but she's really more defensive or to me she's remind me more of a tank then anything else (barrier, short range primary, self sustaining ability)
Thats exactly how I do it.
11:30 bro, this is sooooo true! i did stard to main tracer some months ago and my genji / sombra plays started getting much better. Learn tracer also made me learn a lot about strategt in general
yeah I know right? These three just happens to be my three dps mains
For DPS, I usually end up running Bastion just because he feels like a little powerhouse, but I need to try Mei more, I think.
if you like denying people to make moves and struggle with aim, try Brig. the only aim you'll need is for her whipshot
@@Iluvclancats Thanks for the tip, I'll try her out some in QP.
When playing with your team, lucio does not require much aim. If you play reddit lucio (going in their backline, flanking, distracting the enemies) You'll need aim and really good wall riding.
"these characters dont have any way to take a high ground out of nowhere"
Me, on pharah, getting pinned by a rein in midair, that my junkrat boosted into the sky: you sure about that bud?
I like to poke people from a distance but i also love dropping in on them and just getting an elimination and i recently started playing echo and shes perfect for me. Asides from her i also play a lot of off support and hanzo
21:24 bro gave me and every other persona 4 player PTSD
That fire emblem music in the background is 💯
I mainly play tank and support but when it comes to dps I’m just good at sym.

I feel like Mauga is a bit of a grey area between brawl and poke because of how his kit functions on a more optimal level
Under Night ost slaps hard. Listen to Melty Blood ost too!
my problem is i like to play hanzo, mei or sombra but if the match doesnt run good for me, i allways go back to my safe pick, reaper. for me reaper is a absolute beginner class and i dont want to play him, but in the end if i need to to most of the work i switch to him and do my job.
Have you tried pharah after the rework?
@@combsmsb i played 300 hours in 3months and i stopped playing. I think im done i got 2 golden weapons(for mei and soldier76) and ranked up to plat 2
I used to be a flex then in Overwatch 1 since I mained Pharah. She was so fun to play against two tanks cuz of how much damage she does.
So my mains are:
Tank - 1) Orisa, 2) Dva, and lately I have liked new addition of Mauga
Damage - 1) Symmetra, 2) Sombra, 3) Junkrat
Support - 1a) Moira, 1b) Mercy, 2) Lucio
Personally I feel like after thinking about it and watching this video mobility is the thing that matters most to me as I like to get in people’s face and take them out, but be able to dip out if I feel threatened, and personally I am not a long range combatant for the most part, so what would that make me and what characters do you think fit that in each role?
im the same but i only play junk and moira so im gonna try new heroes maybe sym or sombra now
WINTON.
I want to play because I want to improve. I started with Support Moira and honestly that got me into the game but I realized I need to learn to aim.
so what characters should i be playing if im a widow main? i’m very flexible and am good with a lot of heroes, but im still kinda confused. i like being widow because i dont have to worry about when to jump into a fight, but im also very great with characters that require that such as genji. what heroes would i benefit most from and what style?
you forgor ramattra. so you will suffer as him, ramattra, have suffered your torment will outlast the stars when the univerese dwindles into dust, there you will be, still suffering as him have... suffffffered
me with 1.5k hrs on genji: hmm.. yes maybe i am playing my wrong main..
im embarrassed for you
Genji and Widow actually overlap a bit.
Thanks for the help coach willis
good video
2:37 no one talking about the fact he punched that echo to space
I've played a lot of brawl tanks, but ive found (after uears of playing) that really, i hyper focus on one target, team be damned. Ive been having a lot of fun learning dva/winton. I can feed, and gtfo. Too bad ball sucks rn lol. When i first started i was a rein main. Then i learned flanking, became a zarya hog main. Now in OW2 dive kinda is the best of both.
What about Kiriko, where does she fit into this way of thinking (Support/ Damage Dealer wise)?
Right? I watched the whole dang video waiting for Kiri! :/
I mean soldier and zen are fun and Lucio is great to learn cuz it feels so satisfying with a good rollout
Ram too
mauga is poke? With his charge and fighting ring?
4:30 what was this play? 😭
That Ana play at the end slaps
if you wanna get better aim, is there a pool of characters you should pick from and who are they in that case?
If you want to get better aim, just play the game. If you want to get better hitscan aim, then just play hitscans, and if you want better projectile aim, its more of a hero to hero basis! Warm up before games helps too.
Question. What is bastion then?
I play Sigma and Kiriko almost exclusively because they never get nerfed below A Tier. Simple as that. I'm not going to play Zenyatta or Roadhog because for a couple weeks they're broken and then Blizzard nerfs them to C or D Tier.
Id even argue that Ana/bap isnt really a 'flex', more utility and extra heal cover.
I have to disagree a little bit when you say it doesn't make sense to main different playstyle characters. For example, if you only main Genji/Tracer/Sombra and the enemy team has D.va, Brig, Torb, Mei and Illari. Then you are in a situation where you basically can't do anything because the only characters you play are all too similar and get shut down by the same things.
bars.
I hope venture fits my playstyle.
i need a role that is impactful but also allows me to help get picks and requires me to keep getting better at aiming and tracking so what role do you think that is?
20:20 its really triggering how he isnt healing the sombra LOL
What would Symmetra be?
Swag mills this a nice breakdown dive is the only way
I like Roadhog as tank, Pharah as DPS and Moira/Mercy as Healer. Somtimea Anna
I’ve noticed that I always try to play hanzo/soujourn. But i play waaaaaay better on Ashe and soldier. Lol maybe I need to be more realistic with myself and give up the dream
i want advice, i usually play roadhog or ball and i was wondering would that be brawl or road is dive or something because i heard of that before
great vid, but all of that still confusing to me, like my most played hero is Sombra, but I'm still bad at her no matter what I do and on the other side I have Venture with 5-10 hours and every time I pick them, I pop off
I want to be great Sombra main but my skill just goes the other way :")
i love tracer & sombra but im totally scared of playing genji
Not gonna lie, for me the supports that I've played so far:
If you know how to play mercy, you can kinda play Lucio (mostly understand the wall ride and speed and heal button)
If you know how to play ana, you can play Baptiste or the other way around (also can help you practice DPS if you start with support role)
Zen so far I don't know any relations, but DPS balls, Baptiste and ana since you need to aim
Kiriko is more like illari on how to dps (idk if flank still count), suzu is like ana grenade (immo from bap can work, but immo last longer than suzu, so I'm not counting him)
Illari for the turret is basically like how you want to put immo field, basically at the place where enemy having hard time destroying, for DPS, can be like kiriko (sidelines or flank, still don't know if still possible) or ana/bap (poking from the backline)
Baptiste, basically like ana/illari because of shooting, he can be also used if the person who started from support role want to try get use for a bit DPS role, immo like suzu, but last longer so second early is safe, can climb to high ground easily like kiriko with his boots
Lucio is like the above, mercy, except on the ground, instead of keep yourself alive while gliding/floating/ flying, this one you need to abuse speed boost and learn wall riding, if people used to mercy ga mechanic, they can understand Lucio wall ride guide easily and maybe try rollouts, they both also have two thing which is able to switch the healing, if you used to mercy damage boost healing mechs, understand the Lucio when to use speed and heal is a bit faster,
Brig also hard like zen, because she's the only one with melee, cannot really categorize which support can compare to her, I guess the healing can be compare to Moira yellow spray, which has limited usage and long charge (but it's not getting recharge back like Moira) but other than that, I guess that's all, her role is to protect the other supp or backline hero from dive, and use whiplash for area heal (basically peeling for heals), yeah
And I forgot about the queen of sucking herself, Moira, I guess..... Moira.. is just Moira? All I know is like kiriko/illari, play flank or sidelines but other than that, Moira?😂
So yeah, behold my long essay on the support I played so far and try to understand, there's might be error, but hey, everything is not perfect xD
Me: watching to see if im using the wrong main knowing im doing really damn good with my current ones
(Used to try forcing reaper as my main cause of nerdouts reaper song before settling on junkrat)
What would reaper and kiriko fall under?
Probably really dumb question but would mei symm reaper count as similar mechanically all being close range dps?
Im pretty good at dying who should i play
Mystery heroes main 💪
i hooked up on zen long before ow2, and get both rapid discord. after update i became an angry monk
Me, a venture main, when I get to the counter section and I suffer from ptsd of widow players rage swapping to sombra and pharah:
I just play whos fun. mostly supports. today though I been trying out mercy and shes mad fun.
Great vid
You need the ability to play multiple characters to flex your playstyle against the enemy and map
Hey mills thanks for this excellent video, when in future new heros get released make a video where they will fit in
Then you have us Sym mains who don’t fit into any category and we just do our own thing lol.
Also is Ashe a hits an when her shots are labeled hyper projectile? This means her shots, even when sights line up, can still miss a moving target.
can we just talk about ana 1v1ing hog and winning at 21:00
