You had me from point 7 brother. Mechanics DO matter and I’m sick of hearing GMs say mechanics don’t matter then show their unranked to GM and it’s constant “yeah sorry that was mechanics. Don’t know what else to tell you” Also the Smurf point is so true. We had a Cass pop off one game. Literally called “papa Smurf” 🙄 we threw bastion and sombra into him, our Ana used all her resources on him first before anyone else and I was JQ just holding the corner and pushing the tank back over and over and we just absolutely exploded him every time he came into our LOS and the team wasn’t good enough to deal with us just bullying their star player
Just started OW2 once it hit Steam, and I’ve put in over 100 hours on mystery heroes. It has helped me to relearn some of the reworked characters from OW1, learn the newer characters, and just generally get a better feel for maps and movement in general.
Agree with the social part it just sucks that ALOT of people just dont even try anymore since there are so many toxic weridos that just make people instantly leave VC ect.
On Smurfs, I actually recently came across a couple players with multiple smurf accounts. I got hit up by someone I played with before who was looking for a good vibe and their two friends were a bit higher in rank, and as we all played together the one who initially invited me kept getting to where they could not play with the rest of us, so the other two (a couple) were swapping down to lower rank accounts so we could keep playing. I still am not sure how I feel about it in terms of 'but its a smurf account', but the guy was right: it was a GREAT vibe we had going on, win or loose. It was very fun and I'm glad we were able to do it, and it did show the other, more positive side of having a smurf account, to just have fun with your friends.

Hard stuck Masters 2 on console. I’ve noticed a majority of GM/top 500 console players are Ximming and I can’t climb anymore because of the the mechanical advantage. Any tips? I’ve tried mastering less mechanical hero’s (Rein, Ram, Sym, Mercy..etc)
3:57 I do agree however I play a LOT of tracer and sometimes I feel like I’m forced to switch against very specific comps. (Tracer can be played in like almost every situation on any map) however if I am playing against pharah mercy echo it’s like bro I can’t counter the enemy dps at all as tracer because she is a close range hero and they are all up in the sky, so I feel like im forced to switch to soilder or ashe to counter the flyers. It also depends on if my other dps on my team is playing something that can counter the flyers, in that case I wouldn’t be forced to switch but if I’m tracer and my dps teammate is on another close range hero then it’s like I’m just forced to switch unless my tm8 dps does….
Just have fun and improve thy self each match as long as you are getting slightly closer eventually you will be at the top. Comparing your own journey to others is unfair to yourself, the human mind is so incredibly complex that no two humans are the same. Trust me, you will get better. Take your improvement with pride.

As a red panda once said, "If you only do what you can do, you'll never be better than what you are." Saying "It's my team's fault" and not taking any responsibility will not make you a better player. Become better so that even if your teammates might be lacking, you can make up for them so it wouldn't have to matter. I always have the mindset of "If a GM was in my position, would they still win?", and 100% of the time I will answer yes to that question no matter how dire the situation was so I can push myself to be better even if it's humanly impossible. Even if there was a cheater on the other team, they can still be beaten so why should I blame the cheater that I lost when it's really my own skill.
Playing mystery heros was thr best thing I did for learning how to play. You learn how all the heros works and you have to keep trying even if you're getting countered. I'm an older female player so I am not sure I can even improve on mechanics anymore. Also, finding anyone to play with is really difficult. So, I think platinum is going to be the best I'll get to.
4:28 grind mystery heroes for 3-500 hours after you get the basic fundamentals of overwatch gameplay down (team composition, objective priorities, basic principles of each role etc)....get the basics.....and then mystery is life.
1. Play as many characters as possible in the beginning. 2. Objectives are a means to an end. 3. Objectives are far less important than winning the team fight. 4. Counter-picking is not always the answer. 5. Good positions mainly mean good options. 6. Effective range is one of the most important things to think about. 7. Wellness check: Get your health and resources back instead of going in and trading. 8. Mechanics matter so much. 9. Ranked is frustrating, and you’re going to get disappointed. 10. Equipment actually matters. 11. Bad duos are worse than suffering. 12. Stop blaming others. 13. Smurfs don’t matter. 14. You dislike a map because you’re bad at it. 15. Never believe you figured it all out. 16. Be social. 17. Getting good at Overwatch makes you someone that can be good at anything. 18. You will only see your true skill once you get good enough. 19. for the effective range, how would you beat a roadhog as junkerqueen? I try to follow A10's instructions and just go in a different lane from the hog and try to get close to his backline but this rarely works. am I just not playing the matchup properly or is it something else.
"It's like climbing Everest" I'm just starting Overwatch now, but I relate to this with Rocket League. It's like oh wow I'm finally Champ, I'm good at the game now... No... it feels more like you just finished the Tutorial after thousands of hours and you just got your buttons figured out. Yourself and those around you are just clowning around and every goal/win is from mistakes made by you or others and not really from you just being better.
I agree hard w the counterpicking my duo who OTP dva and kiriko was masters on tank and support They were playing sojourn, sym, widow, echo, ashe, sombra… they just wanted to escape plat. I made them this season go sombra 90% of the time and only ashe if they need to, and they hit master 🤷♂️

Hey Coach Mills do you think you can give me some pointers? I try to help some of my friends who wanna improve and so I review their games for them cause I been with this game for so long but I admit I don't know everything or keep up to date with many things. When I wanna coach my friends I would say things like "Oh I would of done this" or "If it were me I would do this" and I am not sure if this is the right terminology I should say to my friends when it comes to pointing out their mistakes and try and teach them a different decision that could be better. I do try to prob questions out of them in a given scenario so that they could think over what they done differently which I'm happy about but idk how I feel when I say "Oh this-" or "I would of ". Is this okay?
Completely new player here, I picked the Sniper dps character which you played in the video, but I keep get absolutely slaughtered . I picked her so i could stay at a distance a bit, but man everyone seems so much stronger than me (especially the mech suits that can just fly at me 😅)
Some DPS characters have a focus thing, I don't mean a skill that they use I mean that their DPS is more focused specifically, sometimes on getting headshots. She's one of them. I'm not saying don't keep playing her, I'm saying practice up your aiming mechanics, start running some drills or just practice a lot and try to nail those headshots. If you get to where you're reliably accurate, you will be doing better than most of the people who play this game.

The only way you can rank up is when people want to stay in group or you play with friends that know how to play. You only ranking you win. Nothing you do will increase your rank unless you win as a team.

I started playing 5 days ago and beat a player who peaked at rank 238 this season. Went 10-1 gives me a warm feeling that I just must be a badass gamer regardless of the game.
I disagree with 9, it's almost 100% pure fluff when the ranking system is currently pure shit, there's no "Keep grinding and put your emotions to the side" kind of schtick that'll always work, not with the state of the game. Going 5-1 and not ranking or 5-2 and de-ranking, just completely kills your argument unfortunately. Rank will die out faster than they can fix it if they don't do any major changes ASAP.
2:14 the Payload heals you and makes great cover for smaller heroes so id say thats not always true, especially in low ranks or unranked. There are still players who didnt know this cuz the tutorial sucks
I am a casual player, but I never try to counter swap. If I'm playing tank and the enemy tank swaps off of the character they wanted to play to "counter" me, I already won the mind games. I am confident in my ability to play around the tank even though they counter the one I'm playing.
Bad math on smurfing. You're always more likely to have Smurf on opposite team. You solo = 9 spots that Smurf might be out into. 4 on your team, 5 on opposing team. Odds 4 out of 9 you get Smurf, 5 out of 9 on enemy team. If you duo queue and matchmaking puts a Smurf into your game your odds are 3 out of 9 you get them, 5 out of 9 opposing team gets the Smurf. Queue in a 5 stack ..you have zero chance to have a Smurf join your team.
Yeah IDK MAN Hard not to blame others when you go 14-1 on widow on first point, your team doesnt cap even HALF of first point, and the next best on the team is 2-10... Lost game. Ive gone against 3 aimbot cheaters in 3 days. All losses. And another one to an ESPer. Loads of games today where the moira was perpetually in the enemy backline and we were getting farmed by winston. Or the lucio was wallriding in only to die by himself on cooldown before the team fight. Legit dont know what to do about it. I'm not GM, or even masters good. Agreed with everything up until the smurf part saying smurfs dont matter. Im sorry but you are flat out wrong about there not being many out there. Atleast 90% of the matches i play there is atleast 1 person with 20 hours played in a stack just running a lobby. It wouldnt matter as much if it wasnt so frequent but it is nearly every match i play since they made it so much easier to make a new account. Like i hate blaming anything else but my own gameplay ect. But its rough when you just have a GM/t500 stacking with his friends to boost/inflate them just running through everything. Even the rare chance i get a smurf on my team it is unbearable because they will just throw the match if you do not cater to all their needs and do everything they say/want.
You cannot get to grand master or anything higher then gold unless you play on a team with the same players for multiple matches. These videos are completely fake. There’s only one strategy get a group of friends and consistently play together. All this is doing is making you better. You can only rank up when you win so you need a good team.

Saying "It's my team's fault" and not taking any responsibility will not make you a better player. Become better so that even if your teammates might be lacking, you can make up for them so it wouldn't have to matter. I always have the mindset of "If a GM was in my position, would they still win?", and 100% of the time I will answer yes to that question no matter how dire the situation was so I can push myself to be better even if it's humanly impossible. Even if there was a cheater on the other team, they can still be beaten so why should I blame the cheater that I lost when it's really my own skill.
Playing mystery heros was thr best thing I did for learning how to play. You learn how all the heros works and you have to keep trying even if you're getting countered.
I'm an older female player so I am not sure I can even improve on mechanics anymore. Also, finding anyone to play with is really difficult. So, I think platinum is going to be the best I'll get to.

4:28 grind mystery heroes for 3-500 hours after you get the basic fundamentals of overwatch gameplay down (team composition, objective priorities, basic principles of each role etc)....get the basics.....and then mystery is life.

2. Objectives are a means to an end.
3. Objectives are far less important than winning the team fight.
4. Counter-picking is not always the answer.
5. Good positions mainly mean good options.
6. Effective range is one of the most important things to think about.
7. Wellness check: Get your health and resources back instead of going in and trading.
8. Mechanics matter so much.
9. Ranked is frustrating, and you’re going to get disappointed.
10. Equipment actually matters.
11. Bad duos are worse than suffering.
12. Stop blaming others.
13. Smurfs don’t matter.
14. You dislike a map because you’re bad at it.
15. Never believe you figured it all out.
16. Be social.
17. Getting good at Overwatch makes you someone that can be good at anything.
18. You will only see your true skill once you get good enough.
19. You should act in-game only the way you would act if you were being watched (be your best self).

for the effective range, how would you beat a roadhog as junkerqueen? I try to follow A10's instructions and just go in a different lane from the hog and try to get close to his backline but this rarely works. am I just not playing the matchup properly or is it something else.
"It's like climbing Everest" I'm just starting Overwatch now, but I relate to this with Rocket League. It's like oh wow I'm finally Champ, I'm good at the game now... No... it feels more like you just finished the Tutorial after thousands of hours and you just got your buttons figured out. Yourself and those around you are just clowning around and every goal/win is from mistakes made by you or others and not really from you just being better.

They were playing sojourn, sym, widow, echo, ashe, sombra… they just wanted to escape plat. I made them this season go sombra 90% of the time and only ashe if they need to, and they hit master 🤷♂️
I think tip 19 is a tip that more people really should be more conscious of.
The only time I swap because I get countered is when I'm on Moira and against a decent Torb. I can barely 1v1 his turret 😫

Hey Coach Mills do you think you can give me some pointers? I try to help some of my friends who wanna improve and so I review their games for them cause I been with this game for so long but I admit I don't know everything or keep up to date with many things.
When I wanna coach my friends I would say things like "Oh I would of done this" or "If it were me I would do this" and I am not sure if this is the right terminology I should say to my friends when it comes to pointing out their mistakes and try and teach them a different decision that could be better. I do try to prob questions out of them in a given scenario so that they could think over what they done differently which I'm happy about but idk how I feel when I say "Oh this-" or "I would of ". Is this okay?

Completely new player here, I picked the Sniper dps character which you played in the video, but I keep get absolutely slaughtered . I picked her so i could stay at a distance a bit, but man everyone seems so much stronger than me (especially the mech suits that can just fly at me 😅)
Some DPS characters have a focus thing, I don't mean a skill that they use I mean that their DPS is more focused specifically, sometimes on getting headshots. She's one of them.
I'm not saying don't keep playing her, I'm saying practice up your aiming mechanics, start running some drills or just practice a lot and try to nail those headshots. If you get to where you're reliably accurate, you will be doing better than most of the people who play this game.

I completely agree with the stop blaming others, not only as a means to get better, but also stop the toxicity this game breeds. I never blame my team, and I always look at myself, and even if I'm not the best, I always walk away with integrity. Not that that matters much if all that matters is winning ofc lol.
I also agree with being social, but man are overwatch players mean, especially the ones who think they're good, and it's simply not worth being social with them imo. But DO be social with people who are friendly, or even quiet, that's how I've made my best friends, and several girlfriends tbh

The only way you can rank up is when people want to stay in group or you play with friends that know how to play. You only ranking you win. Nothing you do will increase your rank unless you win as a team.

I started playing 5 days ago and beat a player who peaked at rank 238 this season. Went 10-1 gives me a warm feeling that I just must be a badass gamer regardless of the game.

I disagree with 9, it's almost 100% pure fluff when the ranking system is currently pure shit, there's no "Keep grinding and put your emotions to the side" kind of schtick that'll always work, not with the state of the game.

2:14 the Payload heals you and makes great cover for smaller heroes so id say thats not always true, especially in low ranks or unranked. There are still players who didnt know this cuz the tutorial sucks
I am a casual player, but I never try to counter swap. If I'm playing tank and the enemy tank swaps off of the character they wanted to play to "counter" me, I already won the mind games. I am confident in my ability to play around the tank even though they counter the one I'm playing.

Bad math on smurfing. You're always more likely to have Smurf on opposite team. You solo = 9 spots that Smurf might be out into. 4 on your team, 5 on opposing team. Odds 4 out of 9 you get Smurf, 5 out of 9 on enemy team.
If you duo queue and matchmaking puts a Smurf into your game your odds are 3 out of 9 you get them, 5 out of 9 opposing team gets the Smurf.
Queue in a 5 stack ..you have zero chance to have a Smurf join your team.

Hard not to blame others when you go 14-1 on widow on first point, your team doesnt cap even HALF of first point, and the next best on the team is 2-10... Lost game. Ive gone against 3 aimbot cheaters in 3 days. All losses. And another one to an ESPer. Loads of games today where the moira was perpetually in the enemy backline and we were getting farmed by winston. Or the lucio was wallriding in only to die by himself on cooldown before the team fight. Legit dont know what to do about it. I'm not GM, or even masters good. I can't make up for that one guy that seems to ALWAYS find his way into my team in my games. I'm not good enough to carry the entire team by myself. Unless I'm on Tank. But as DPS? Nope. About to give up.

Agreed with everything up until the smurf part saying smurfs dont matter. Im sorry but you are flat out wrong about there not being many out there. Atleast 90% of the matches i play there is atleast 1 person with 20 hours played in a stack just running a lobby. It wouldnt matter as much if it wasnt so frequent but it is nearly every match i play since they made it so much easier to make a new account. Like i hate blaming anything else but my own gameplay ect. But its rough when you just have a GM/t500 stacking with his friends to boost/inflate them just running through everything. Even the rare chance i get a smurf on my team it is unbearable because they will just throw the match if you do not cater to all their needs and do everything they say/want.

You cannot get to grand master or anything higher then gold unless you play on a team with the same players for multiple matches. These videos are completely fake. There’s only one strategy get a group of friends and consistently play together. All this is doing is making you better. You can only rank up when you win so you need a good team.
