Main whoever you think is the most fun, that's what the game is for!!! BUT if you wanted to strategically pick your main this tierlist is my opinion on that, enjoy!
I think Zenyatta is THE BEST hero to main as a new player since he only teaches you the right things. You have no get out of jail free card, only your kick and your insane damage. Good cover usage, good aim, good flanks etc. are crucial to perform well on him. I onetricked Zen when I first started in OW2 and within 40 hours on him I reached masters
switching from moira to playing zen got me from diamond to T500 in a few months. He has extremely high carry potential and if you make a mistake you’re heavily punished.
Plus maining a support that has high damage and relatively low healing means you have to focus on providing skill based value every second. You can transition to any other flex support plus lucio and squeeze more value than you would if you had adopted a healbot mentality early on. You can also transition to any hitscan dps and you’ll have decent mechanics. The only role you’d have trouble taking up is tank because zen does not practice cooldown management at all
If you new to overwatch Don't let a teir list dictate what charater you play, Experiment find what playstyle you want and what fits for you half the fun is just playing a random charater and seeing if you like them
It wasn’t a tierlist for new players in the sense of “these are easy heroes play them when you’re new” This (as he said like 5 times) tierlist is based off of which heroes will be good for new players to main and learn over the course of their time in overwatch, by teaching good mechanics/having high skill ceiling etc.
I’ve mained Sigma since he came out. I love him so much. Such an endearing character lore wise with dynamic gameplay. He’s got a badass ultimate and I feel like I actually have to time my decisions when playing him. Sig, Ram, and Doom are my mains as I am a massichist tank player.
Same, easily the coolest character in the whole game imo. I feel like he's got no love the whole of OW2 though- barely anything in terms of buffs and lots of nerfs to his tanking ability. Doesn't feel like he's great apart from on long range maps which is a shame
I think the biggest achievement for Juno is that she's really strong and fun to play both as and with, yet she's not frustrating to play agaisnt at all, I love this hero
She is cool but i dont agree with the playing against part entirely. Hey lets make Baptiste but better vertical and horizontal mobility and lets also just for funsies let her speed her team also lets give her mini high noon as an ability that denies flankers easily and also heals your teammates at the same time so you dont lose out on healing. Oh her ult? Basically transcendence but also with better damage boost than mercy has (on her whole team) and unlike zen she can still do stuff. Also lets give her shield health because why not? She is absolutely busted hahah
@@gabrieljohansen9239the ult is OP. The rest is meh in terms of being cheese to play against. I don't think she would hit my top 15 for disdain to play against other than her pairing with dva but that's dva fault moreso
Any new player seeing this comment: don’t let a tierlist make decisions for you. Until you are so good to the point where meta is important, you can play whoever you want. I tell all new players I teach the game to is instead of putting pointless hours into hard characters, play the easy character with the goal of getting good enough at the easy characters and learning the game so that you can be decent or better with the hard heroes. I have a friend who climbed basically from silver to diamond with sojourn by starting on soldier and learning good game sense and mechanics first without having to put effort into a kit
I dunno, noobs on Reinhardt are a coin flip: they either never shield up or never swing the hammer. And the fatal urge to charge right into the enemy team is too strong.
dont ONLY take a tier list like this into account when deciding who to main, remember your preferred play-style, where you excel most in other fps games, and seek to understand a character’s kit before deciding that theyre the pick for you. example: if you have terrible flick aim, don’t main widow to start. if you dont enjoy playing a mainly supportive role in games, dont pick someone like brigette. if you dont like playing frontline characters and tanking damage, maybe rein and hog arent great picks for you! Play to your strengths unless your goal is to learn something new! ex: you have really good hitscan tracking? maybe soldier or sojourn are solid picks for you! you like jumping around the map and being a mobile support? maybe juno and kiriko are some characters youd be interested in! you like diving backlines and making the enemy supports and enemy widowmakers hate their lives? dva, doom, tracer, and even lucio might be right up your alley! don’t worry too much about meta, though it should be taken into account, it is not the end all be all. a torb with tons more skill and experience on torb will in almost all cases beat a decent cassidy. a great mercy CAN provide more value to a team than an okay brigette. meta isnt everything, but the less meta characters often fall into a niche that makes it harder for them to generate consistent value in every setting, so main whoever you like playing the most and do well on, but don’t have them be the only hero in your roster.
I’m new to overwatch and I like playing life weaver, Lucio and reaper. All fit playstyles I like and it gives me a little flex in terms of who I can pick. Recently tried Ana and their fun but life weaver is just so fun to nullify ults.
Yeah you wilding with Bastion 😭he sucks if you suck at aiming. My very first main was Soldier 76, tracking is how you’re going to get the most use out of him. Same thing with Bastion but people don’t understand that. Hit your blast where they’re going from long range, spray your clip til it’s empty from short range, and use the turret to aim at groups at mid range!
My recommendation is to main the hardest hero from the start. I started playing ball as soon as I started overwatch 2. Always got flamed in gold but as soon as I reached 50 hours I climbed so quick. No all those shitters in gold mean nothing and I’m a top 500 ballerton
I think as a new player you want to pick a hero that has a low skill floor with a lot of versatility and is FUN for you. That way you can just enjoy the game and once you have a good understanding of macro, then you can branch out to other more difficult heroes
As a Lucio support main since OW1, he's an A Tier at least. My other mains are Dva and Venture and I think their placements are good. But I personally would put Dva S Tier but I'm biased lol
one thing im thinking of not really mentioned in this vid are team comps. lets say Bap and Ana for example id rather one trick ana for the rest of my life than bap cause I fit sooooo much better in dive while bap is rough in it. Itd be so many games where ud feel left out or behind in comparison to Ana who fits pretty much every style of play.
Me a rammatra main basking in the S tier :) In all seriousness I agree though. Ram is pretty good and teaches all kinds of things to new players. Leading shots, blocking damage/cooldowns, blocking healing, chasing kills, catching people out of position and punishing them. Its great. Great hero. Very very fun. would recommend for a new player
I been playing OW since 2017 and i use characters if they're in meta or not i don't care about the meta i care if they're a good attack or defend and are useful to the team I personally am a reaper main but i dont do competitive.
i played every season and didn't see a single ramattra meta outside of his release season with infinite ultimate. i checked t500 leaderboards every season to see if i remember wrong but no, ramattra in fact the least played hero and never had a meta. even less than mauga. na streamers overrate this type of heroes so much. dogshite hero. rein is solid though. you can just roll with him since s10. ram and zarya would be my least recommended tanks. i'd recommend dive tanks, high burst damage quick kill potential tanks like jq, hog or snorefest passive orisa/sig. ram is not friendly to neither newbies nor advanced players in solo que ladder. i can see him being good in coordinated play if you have friends though. not for ladder. you can get shutdown very easily and you don't have carry burst damage or mobility. it's a limited hero that relies on other 9 heroes way too much. If you aim to be a top500 tank player, Winston, Sigma, Doomfist, Dva are the heroes you need to learn. These have the highest t500 presence and relevance in all OW2 seasons combined. Ram is the bottom 1. I'd also recommend JQ for how fun and strong she is but her place can be volatile in meta. But still she has the tools to overcome it. You can scale her up. Ram is dud.
new players should pick moira for support. junkrat, reaper, soldier for dps ramattra, orisa for tank Everything else on your list will send them down to bronze. I have been hardstuck silver since game release. The new or ppl who never learn they play ana and mccree with others and they play a hero with to high skill level and they make the rest of us hardstuck in silver!
These are legit. I don’t play FPS. I love OW by meaning I’ve been following since it released. Its design, animations etc. are my cup of tea. However, my poor ass never had a chance to touch any game devices except a potato mobile( 7years of SS galaxy s6). Until life and things became better, I started to catch up some game to play. OW2 was my first FPS I ever thought of. So, I considered myself new and having Rein, D.Va, LW, Venture as main. I’ve been pretty much playing Juno lately. Tho, I still have to practice aiming a lot more😂
Should've mentioned that Hanzo shoots a lot slower than before. Your positioning has to be pristine to survive on him, more so than most heroes at this point. Also the environment he's playing in is a big deal. He's playing by S8 rules in a further nerfed state, while nobody else is.
He literally said multiple times that this is a tier list for which heroes are good for new players to main LONG term. A hero having complexity is a GOOD thing for new players because it ensures you'll have fun long term because you are constantly learning new things and getting better at the game and the hero. You wouldn't recommend maining Mercy for new players because she doesn't have a skill ceiling and she doesn't teach you anything about the game. Almost none of her skills are transferable to other heroes so you'll just be stuck to being a mercy main forever.
Yeah but some of these heroes have very high skill floor, you’ll have to put 100h in the same hero before getting any fun. Also some here are boring to play, I don’t get how torb and venture are above Reaper and Junk, both are way more fun to play with a bit of skill (but not as hard as tracer )
New players don't have access to all of the characters in the game, they unlock them gradually by playing. I don't understand why would anyone recommend a new player who knows little to nothing in the game play tracer? Her cleanse gets thrown around at ppl who lost 25 life with no stun in sight till at least low gold.. Even if they try not to, they would need to know all the abilities and timings of many heros to use her properly. Moira is better than B, if you are new and want to play sup. Improving aim is a thing she doesn't do, but like you said you can really learn the game flow and maps and comps, because you don't have to concentrate that much on your hero's abilities. And she has a 'nope im out' button, which can lower frustration lvls early on quite a bit.
Yeah Rein is good to learn, but to main? That sounds like torture. So many characters either bully him or can easily run away. Main Winton instead. He teaches you all the same things as Rein and is more flexible.
