I have a 4K panel on a 13" laptop and it DO make a big difference compared to a 1080p monitor. And yeah sure I have to get REALLY close to make out a single pixel, but it's not about seeing the pixels, it's about sharpness from a normal distance. Linus, this video, "The build quality of this Razer system is, as always, amazing" Literally the same person, 2 videos ago, "My Razer Blade Stealth stopped working after less than a year of use so I'll just get a new Razer Blade Stealth." I don't wanna use the term fanboy but.....
Roddy Evans build quality wasn’t the issue in that context I belive it was heat. Build quality refers to how it feels, flexibility sturdiness size ect.
Roddy Evans my thoughts exactly. It’s a bit annoying that there were so many other good computers on that table. I feel linus should try out different devices as his daily driver, since he is a reviewer after all.
Daily driver laptop for Captain Drops-a-lot: lasts nearly an entire year. Razer should use this as a testimonial, the way Land Rover reps used to brag about the utterly dreadful things that had happened to their vehicles.
Many people just been easily impressed by the skin outside, not what's in the inside. This is on every thing, not just electronic product. That's why some companies sell overpriced product with beautiful skin outside and so so inside and many people would buy it, this is including Apple, some European cars manufacturer, and many others. I believe this would change as people become smarter over time, but this is the fact now. Linus is somewhat rather provoking in title, but his actual video isn't too provoking, he's just rather funny and wants to express his feeling towards some products, with the exception of sponsored products of course :)
Oled is expensive and better effects (stronger hardware) are more relevant than beautiful colors, thats why its not popular in gaming. It looks awesome though
I bought the Razer phone 2 on the prime day sale for 400. Loving it. I sure wouldn't buy it at the release price though, I'm cheaper than a can of beans :)
I paid $1800 for a Gigabyte AERO 15 OLED with a 1660ti and i7 and it works amazingly. For the price I can't recommend it enough. OLED captivated me since I first heard about it years ago and I'm thrilled to finally have it in a laptop. On the other hand I'm disappointed it's not a 144hz panel.
I question why I am watching this video seeing I’m not even in the market for a laptop. I find myself watching every video LTT makes due to the quality of video.Good Job LTT.
Pimp my brick dude ive been using a 2005 hp laptop for the past 5 years with a 1.27ghz dual core cpu and onboard graphics lol. My first tower I ever built when I was 10 years old croaked out after 9 years of service, I cut a maltese cross into the side of an old IBM tower and screwed a plexiglass sheet to it, put blue light bars inside it and I still have the blue glass light tubes. It was so sick, I'm looking at some budget builds now but if you wanna play the price is right and match what I spend... lol I'd plug your channel on everything I do. Love the videos and have for a long time back when you were making videos out of a garage, don't quit making them!
This is going to be different for every consumer, but if you are not worried about maximizing your "win/loss" ratio is some twitch reflex based, competitive game, you don't need to worry about going above 60hz. I haven't played on a laptop in over 7 years, but the NUMBER ONE thing I would worry about, mostly because it's often overlooked in favor of GHz, GB/s, etc., is how well the laptop deals with heat. It doesn't matter how big the numbers are; if the laptop gets to hot it's gonna stutter which is a much more annoying issue than not having above 60fps.
I actually have a 14" 1440p OLED screen laptop-Thinkpad X1 Carbon 2nd Gen. It's not a gaming laptop (only Intel graphics), but movies, coding, photoshopping, web browsing, and overall user experience are all just oh so very pleasant.
I've had oled on my laptop for 4 years. I really appreciate it every now and then when I resume dark-ish low-contrast scenes(a lot of fireworks displays backgrounds weren't just black for example and added to the videos) content I had started watching on my ips monitors.
I've been looking for a laptop like this for years (15", 4K, decent GPU). I'm a developer, so want to get as much on screen as possible when working, and I'm happy to run at 1080 when gaming occasionally to be able to use higher detail settings. I had a Dell XPS15 years ago, but the build quality (several replaced parts in 8 months) got it sent back.
Depending on the games you play, OLED can actually be better. Stuff like Skyrim, RDR2, AC Odyssey, Persona 4, Yakuza, etc, I would rather play on an OLED than a faster refresh (and slower response) IPS. The contrast and color is breathtaking.
Not sure if anyone at LMG will see this, but just wanted to say that it is VERY noticable the increase in production quality in the last couple videos recently. Even if the context is not particularly interesting to me (not implying that it wasn't), I find myself just enjoying the video more because of just the sheer professionalism and real studio quality. Only other TH-cam creater I'm aware of really on the same level is probably MC.
Summed up well. I had a Alienware 13" OLED as my last laptop and the screen was simply amazing. It breathed life into all of my games (partially due to high density of 1440p at 13" but of course the OLED). Nearly every game looked far better than it did on my 34" 1440p UW monitor (which is damn good itself). With that said I wanted a bigger screen (especially 17") and the lack of high refresh rate really limits the gaming experience. Smoothness is so important. I would have preferred 1080p and a high refresh date. I ended up trying an Asus gx701 that was fantastic but the new gen of CPUs came out so returned it and then got a ge75 i9 2080. The full 8 core CPU + full laptop 2080 I just couldn't pass up.

I would expect the Studio one to be OLED, instead of high refresh, but the colour accuracy issue is a bit surprising. I think that the one just featured in this vid might be good for programmers. If you look at text all day, colour accuracy is not that important, even for web-devs, - as long as its close enough.
@@brentgreeff1115 As a programmer you dont need a good display at all. Its like saying you need oled for Word and Excel ^^ Of course its nice to have... Everyone talks about the OLED issues 2 years ago saying "well have to see what happens in the future", and 2 years later with many OLED laptops on the market with their 3rd iteration of OLED panels, and nobody has done a followup talking about if it is a problem or not.
Actually as long as you're viewing a 6.2" display from a distance of 6 inches, you've got the same Field of View as an IMAX screen, 8K on a phone actually isn't unreasonable. But even if most people can use their phone from a viewing distance of six inches that doesn't make it the ideal application. 4K should be standard on high end phones though.

Sooo... Linus is finally off of his 4K hype from last year? I was so annoyed by laptop reviews getting negative marks for screens being 1080p despite the fact that it saves battery life and increases game performance. 1080p is pefectly fine on such a small screen and on phones and it's nice to finally hear Linus say this and change his stance.
Loved the different style of this video! That was some amazing B-roll and cinematography by David and a clever idea to project the retro sunset on the back!
3:22 It's not only about the distance necessary to make out the pixels in a 4k panel, it's about the distance necessary to make out the pixels in the *alternative to 4k*, which is 1080p. Seeing pixels in day-to-day tasks is the downside of lower resolution displays.

@@tonymorris4335 Lol, depending on the screen size you can't even tell the difference. 1080p for phones is perfect. @@Vortex1988 I agree, I would like to have both though by changing the rendering resolution dynamically on a 4k amoled screen so videos and games (or stuff I choose) render at 4k and the rest at 1080p or 1440p. Roddy Evans my thoughts exactly. It’s a bit annoying that there were so many other good computers on that table. I feel linus should try out different devices as his daily driver, since he is a reviewer after all.

Responding to a similar comment they said they built the Samsung 8K TV into a table for capturing b-roll footage.
I really appreciate it every now and then when I resume dark-ish low-contrast scenes(a lot of fireworks displays backgrounds weren't just black for example and added to the videos) content I had started watching on my ips monitors.
you recommend me to buy asus oled laptop ?
Completely agree make a higher refresh rate 1440p model then I'll upgrade my laptop.

Its like saying you need oled for Word and Excel ^^

Can we just start calling 1440p, "2K" already? Can we make 2K a trend phrase so panel manufactures realize there's a market for that resolution?
Full hd is closer to 2k than 1440p
It’s already called 2.6k in the video world
PS4 Pro, Xbox OneX, and the next gen consoles will all be aiming for 1440p. Most midrange graphics cards aim for it too.
It's already called WQHD (Wide Quad HD because it's 4x 720p in widescreen) along with HD, FHD, and UHD for 720p, 1080p, and 2160p, respectively.
The timing of this video couldn't be any better, I just started looking at laptops and pretty much decided on the Razer blade 15
goldtoaster1512 did you end up getting it? If so how do you like it? I am heading off to college soon and am considering picking this up.
3:22 It's not only about the distance necessary to make out the pixels in a 4k panel, it's about the distance necessary to make out the pixels in the *alternative to 4k*, which is 1080p. Seeing pixels in day-to-day tasks is the downside of lower resolution displays.
