The new sets are wonderfully designed, I have no idea who Linus & Ivan are off camera, but when so many talented individuals gather around two people, one can see they are great people. I dunno why I love the vibe of this video so much. You guys are amazing to watch grow.
I jave one of these 2 gen old as my main pc. When not toting to friends houses, I just use it on a laptop cooler mat at home. The cooling fans will thank you. The double fans on a usb mat will barely make noise and keep your onboard fans from ever ramping up
Yep agreed, any laptop with none user replaceable RAM, or Storage is a no buy for me, as I've had systems where I've had them fail on me, and the entire system ends up as nothing more then a parts salvage.
as both a gamer and 3d renderer, its outright insane to buy a laptop with only 16 gigs of non-upgradeable ram. besides that the r-15 m2 has very very poor CPU thermal performance making it even worse for rendering which is CPU intensive task.

My old ass Alienware laptop just died late last year and I was so sad to see it die, it stuck with me through so much and almost never gave me problems. Would love to pick this version up a year or two from now, since I just invested in my own first serious desktop. I love the design here, so much more slick looking than the previous types of older Alienware laptops like my old one.
I finally got a replacement after mine broke immediately after ordering it 2,5 months ago. It had been repaired twice, the ram was broken, it wouldn't charge and my sound didn't work. Still have to return my old one, it was a real pain to get a new machine from Dell in the Netherlands. Now that I finally have a new one I'm really happy with it, finally the software is also up-to-date and no more weird glitches, everything feels solid. I work in an IT company myself, so I do know what I'm doing with these machines, but the previous one from this same model I had I would not recommend. The one I have right now is amazing! i7 9750h RTX 2060 16 GB 2666 Mhz ram 256 GB + (My own 1 TB 970 evo) Real solid machine, if I'd want more power in the future I'll just connect the Alienware graphics amplifier. Although it felt weird for me to buy a laptop with soldered RAM, I don't mind (yet). Since I always like to service my own machines this one made that nearly impossible, but so far it has been serving me well.
@LinusTechTips Ok Linus, we get it. We don't need to see your package every time you show off your underwear ads that were cringy enough now were getting a video of it. Geez!!
My coworkers and I travel a lot. It seems everyone with older computers own Alienware. We beat these things up and theirs still work 5 years later. Everyone else has to replace theirs in a couple of years. After an MSI and a Sony died on me, I built a 7 liter form factor I carry everywhere. Year one down and no problems. My son still uses his Alienware lap top since he returned to college. It is 8 years old.
@@LinusTechTips I've heard they were calibrated a little different and the blade OLED has a higher peak brightness. Also I play MMO/MOBAs, and no FPS games, so I'm leaning towards OLED 60hz over 144-240hz...
I have this laptop, went with the i7, 1660 ti, 16GB, 144Hz and 256K NVMe for about $1300, added a 1TB Samsung NVMe for $145. Yes it's not as fast as 2080 MaxQ but it's not much slower and almost the same in some games at the 2060. The keyboard, the screen etc... are amazing and I can run ACO at 70-80 FPS on ultra, with the 1660 ti the fans don't even come on in some games. Thus you can still make this a really good gaming laptop and an amazing productivity one for less than half of what you guys speced out. :) Love the review though...

They have the M15 R3 openbox @ BB for $1650 with the i7-10750, 300Hz and RTX2070 Super, and not to mention my essay writing performance REALLY needs improvement. It was all the justification required.
The real deal-breaker for me is the soldered RAM. I saved up for it & was planning on getting it right away when they released it in my country. I thought it was the "right" laptop for me, because the lunar white looks kind of feminine (I'm a woman) and it's not bulky like my current gaming laptop. When it got released in US, I watched a review and found out it had soldered single channel RAM (& wifi), it broke my heart. I still don't know what to get, I know there are tons of alternatives but I'm still very disappointed. This all sounds very dramatic, but it really was a huge blow to me & I can't believe I actually cried over it. So silly 😪
Get a razer. They don't solder their ram, and they are the thinnest gaming laptop on the market. Even though they run a little hot, they have a built in hardware configuration software, which adjust fans, and overclocks. You can also get good displays for them!
I Just checked Amazon, and Nobody says anything Bad about it, at least in Germany, and i have to say : i never Had Problems whit my Alienware stuff, ok one failed Led Strip ob my old Alienware 15R2, wich i never bothered to repair, but apart from that.
@@Ocastia The only major problem I've heard and personally had from my 3 years of owning multiple models was heat throtting and garbage Alienware software
After spending the past entire week (6-8 hours a day) reviewing the best high-end gaming laptops with 10th gen processors and SUPER cards, I've finally come across the end of this video that has the best advice one could want. Now I am shifting my priorities to a mid-level ultrabook, great thermals, good enough performance, 16GB RAM/512GB NVME storage, and keeping the price at or under $2000. Then building a high end desktop later in time for ~$2500. I think that's the best compromise, instead of shelling out $4000+ for a high end gaming laptop. With terrible thermals and needing to repaste, purchase a cooling pad, external mouse/keyboard/monitor just to run it.
Honestly the hybrid style of laptops are great if you move around A LOT but if you’re not traveling every week or more often just get a gaming/productivity desktop and a laptop for typing/note taking.

This is one of the best reviews I've seen on LTT including the gem at 07:00 lmao. The backing music works beautifully and coupled with the animated desk gives this video such a nice atmosphere, the set gives me an upgraded Dave2D(Is that his name? I can't remember I got linus on my mind) vibe.
The new sets are wonderfully designed, I have no idea who Linus & Ivan are off camera, but when so many talented individuals gather around two people, one can see they are great people. I dunno why I love the vibe of this video so much. You guys are amazing to watch grow.
Jazz Oddly, I actually hate this review. Dave2D gave a very cautious recommendation to this laptop, due to the thermals and soldered RAM.

Quantum Gaming alienware is expensive, but is so worth it because the quality of the laptops are really good!
@@Blood-PawWerewolf lies.
Yeah 3000 for a laptop is too much for me also but its no reason to whine on the internet :)
You don't need the an in front of another
The people who come to these videos to only talk about how they can't afford it are annoying
I jave one of these 2 gen old as my main pc. When not toting to friends houses, I just use it on a laptop cooler mat at home. The cooling fans will thank you.
The double fans on a usb mat will barely make noise and keep your onboard fans from ever ramping up

Stopped watching at soldered RAM.
Yep agreed, any laptop with none user replaceable RAM, or Storage is a no buy for me, as I've had systems where I've had them fail on me, and the entire system ends up as nothing more then a parts salvage.
Boo hoo, it's not like literally every laptop at this point has soldered ram
@@Zentrify There is no excuse to not have user replaceable, serviceable, and up gradable ram simply other than greed.
Do you complain when Apple does it?
7:01 tho
7:00 MY EYES!!!
I just can't stomach buying a laptop for gaming or video editing that only has 16GB of RAM and is not able to be upgraded.
That's because you're sane.
Do you need more then 16gb ram for gaming?
as both a gamer and 3d renderer, its outright insane to buy a laptop with only 16 gigs of non-upgradeable ram.
besides that the r-15 m2 has very very poor CPU thermal performance making it even worse for rendering which is CPU intensive task.
@@pathofexile7529 Need? Today no, but it's already nice to have. e.g. ArmA 3 can use like 13gigs with ease.. and thats plus OS and stuff. In a few years when you might still use this laptop, yeah, definitely.
@@m-w-y7325 Not a valid point. Its a "gaming" laptop.

So the 144Hz is just as good?
My old ass Alienware laptop just died late last year and I was so sad to see it die, it stuck with me through so much and almost never gave me problems. Would love to pick this version up a year or two from now, since I just invested in my own first serious desktop. I love the design here, so much more slick looking than the previous types of older Alienware laptops like my old one.

Linus's underwear dance has just broken my eye's
Just the one? How did your other eye survive intact?
I finally got a replacement after mine broke immediately after ordering it 2,5 months ago. It had been repaired twice, the ram was broken, it wouldn't charge and my sound didn't work.
Still have to return my old one, it was a real pain to get a new machine from Dell in the Netherlands. Now that I finally have a new one I'm really happy with it, finally the software is also up-to-date and no more weird glitches, everything feels solid.
I work in an IT company myself, so I do know what I'm doing with these machines, but the previous one from this same model I had I would not recommend. The one I have right now is amazing!
i7 9750h

256 GB + (My own 1 TB 970 evo)
Real solid machine, if I'd want more power in the future I'll just connect the Alienware graphics amplifier.

Aww just realized it was 240hz
Was really looking forward to it being OLED and you doing a comparison against the OLED Razer Blade.
It's the same panel, and the 240Hz is the better option.
@Patrick G I play MMO/MOBA games that don't need the high refresh as much though. And content consumption
@@LinusTechTips I've heard they were calibrated a little different and the blade OLED has a higher peak brightness.
Also I play MMO/MOBAs, and no FPS games, so I'm leaning towards OLED 60hz over 144-240hz...
7:04 I was eating dinner....RIP my appetite

7:01 even 6 seconds are too many seconds
