Recently the 'Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Bill 2023' was introduced in the Lok Sabha. The Bill amends the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969. Several amendment provisions relating to registration of births and deaths have been included in the proposed bill. According to the bill, a chief registrar will be appointed in each state and registrar for local areas. Apart from this, it has been proposed to change the name of Registrar-General to 'Registrar General of India' in the Bill.
In other section, Prime Minister Narendra Modi talked about starting the 'Meri Maati, Mera Desh' campaign in the Mann Ki Baat program. This campaign will be launched to honour the martyred Braveheart men and women. Under this, inscriptions will be made in the village panchayats and 'Amrit Kalash Yatra' will be organized in memory of the immortal martyrs. Soil and plants will be transported to Delhi in 7500 urns from every corner of the country
