- It's always unfortunate to see any product get misused or misrepresented. Let's have a calm, rational discussion about what went wrong in this video about Plasti Dip. Nothing but love to Donut Media, I'm sure they are great guys.

Hey Fonzie, Nolan here, the guy that no idea how to dip his Z. First off I want to say that I have nothing but respect for you and DipYourCar, and you raise many good points in this video. I did not expect to get such a big response from the Dipping community with this episode of Hi Low but in retrospect I guess we should have anticipated that.
You are 100% right, I did not put in enough research on how to do the job properly. We filmed all of Hi Low in two weeks, which did not allow enough time for research or practice. I truly wanted our Plastidip job to be great. We did it on a Friday and I was looking forward to it all week. We spent around 7 hours cleaning and masking the car, and I was very proud of that. The production schedule didn’t allow for letting the car dry and painting on another day.
I’m a competitive person, I really wanted my car to look better than James’ wrapped car. I was super disappointed in myself that I wasn’t able to make that happen, and I knew it’s because I didn’t know what the heck I was doing, and that’s more a reflection on me than it is on Plastidip.
In the end Hi Low is about showing the viewer both how to do things and how NOT to do things, and I think this episode really illustrates that. I didn’t know the process, used the wrong equipment, and it came out terrible, and its important that our viewers know to not to do what I did! But I’ve seen a lot of great looking plastidip jobs, which is specifically why we included one in the video, and I still want to try it again. Despite my own failure, I do think it is a great product.
I would love for you to teach me how to Plastidip correctly, maybe we could collaborate and respray my Z?

I agree, that was a very classy way to handle this. Not sure how many hours of DYC I've watched, but I know deep down that it still isn't enough. There is no substitute for practice, and a good paint job is partially art and partially skill. The guys at DYC make it look so easy, and if you buy the equipment they use, you can probably pull off a decent result the first time. But to compare with any professional treatment should really be left to compare wrap vs. spray by two professional shops.

Even as a complete beginner I never had an issue with plasti dip because I followed the proper instructions. I tell this to everyone who says plasti dip is a bad product. Your dip turned out bad because you didn't follow simple instructions.

Same dude, ever since I started using plasti dip I’ve never made mistake except for a couple of runs every now and then, but that’s how you learn. Such a basic product to use.
Same, started small with a test piece before I did the full car.
Even the spraying motion in this clip was bad, just like you can get a bad rattle can job you can also get a really nice rattle can job.

I self thinned two gallons the first time I dipped my car. It was a pain to peel. It peeled, but was thin and tore. Better than I expected but not great. The dip was on my car three years. I cheaped out on the product I dipped with, I will not be making that mistake again. Just my .02
So, rewatching this video and the other one now, I realize he left out one of the most important parts in the donut video. They specifically say in their video that they learned after the fact that they used the wrong gun, and the dip was almost 10 years old and from a friends garage. They give full credit to plastidip and say it's their fault.

Precisely!! That's why when I saw this video I was like, "Why do they think Donut was giving their product a bad name?" If anything I don't trust a manufacturer who doesn't know some of the biggest proponents of its industry. Like, have they ever searched anything car related on youtube? Donut WILL pop up in the results.
If you look at the videos this ones 6 months ago and the other video is a month ago because they edited it I was confused at first to lol but gotta say respect for both channels as in this day in age it’s rare to see people act like adults

They even showed what a proper, well done plasti dip looks like at the end. They knew they did a crap job on their 350Z. The Honda Civic they showed at the end looked really nice.

I honestly think Fonzie is simply tired of this...I think this may be his 3rd or 4th reaction video to a youtuber improperly dipping a car. The difference with the Donut vid is they never blame the product itself...but DAMN they should have watched some videos! Maybe Nolan would do some preacher curls and have a steadier hand next time...
I mean why wouldn't he? The guys in the video are a part of the most educational car youtube channel, and they were transparent with their experience level throughout the dipping. Really there's no need for this video at all because Donut already had a disclaimer of not following their method and showing a well dipped car.

Hilow has 2 parts per episode. 1 a cheap guy who wants something quick and cheap no pros no big spending which they shared what the results are when you are cheap and stupid but they showed the results of the plasti dip when done right. This guy is a bitch and getting butt hurt about something donut media never said. Donut media said clearly its amazing when done right. I followed all instructions on my first time and dipped my whole truck. Turned out great. Used a dyc sprayer and did it in my dirty workshop. Took the truck through the woods all the time. The dip held up very well. Thanks Fonz
As someone who is seriously considering dipping my car, I really like your response videos explaining "he did this wrong, he did that wrong" because it helps me understand myself what not to do! Of course I've watched a bunch of your tutorial videos, too! But it's hard to get a handle on how I might do it wrong without seeing it in action. I also hope ya'll do that colab, because seeing you teach newbies is helpful, too.
I have to say you’ve given so much information on this product and you stress to your viewers very key information on applying it properly! I’ve always had good results! I even rewatch many videos so I don’t waste the product or to make bone headed mistakes. Your so meticulous in explaining the process! I'm not surprised he isn't keeping tabs on other car YT channels. He runs a business on the day-to-day. YT is just a way for him to promote on the cheap. It's not his means to an end, unlike some other car YT channels(Not implying that this is a bad thing).

Anything done poorly, will look bad. Why not do a diy vinyl wrap on the other 350, see how that turns out.
Because the point of the series is to have someone take the cheap version/usually DIY, and the other dude gets the blessing of getting all the nice professional stuff.
A DIY vinyl wrap would still look better.

Jerry Shwe if they made that video the other way around, and by that I mean having Plasti Dipped profesionally done VS DIY vinyl wrap (with no experience) plasti dip would have looked better.
Or both! I'd like to see that. An inexperienced DIY comparison of vinyl and dip on two cars and then show what professional results look like at the end.

Their’s was the first plasti-dip video I had ever seen and was feeling really doubtful about it - especially in regards to doing it myself. Then they showed the well done version at the end and I felt a little more encouraged. The best part about watching their video on YT is that your video was suggested right below and restored all my hope in doing it myself. Now I’m so ready to dip my entire car (starting with the rims and grill) and I hope you both get together to make that tutorial video soon!

I love plasti dip because you can change colors on rims or the body of a car. I just wish I could do it the right way even if that video donut media made it won’t sway me from trying out a wheel kit I’ve been wanting to for my mustang. Fonzie- incredible response and respect. I used your product for my road rashes wheels and that turned out great. My 12 year old nephew helped and thinks his uncle’s car is “sick” now. Your professionalism and knowledge has really set you apart. Keep up the good work and don’t get discouraged by folks who don’t follow directions, regardless of motives.

The sad part is I am subscribed to both donut media and dip your car. They usually have pretty decent stuff. But I have watched entirely too many dipyourcar videos. I know that the end product doesn't turn out the way they did.

I'm glad Fonzie made this video. I am a soon to be first-time dipper and I personally have gotten so many attacks on my plans because of the Hi Low episode. So many people, including my roommate who wrapped his car, compared amateurs work to professionals. I've watched dozen of DYC videos and know that they made plenty of mistakes and that it could've went so much better had they had done the research and use the correct tools. I'm so glad Hi Low did a part 2 so they can represent how not difficult and how rewarding dipping your car can be

Just now looking into plastidip and I'm looking to do it on Corvette wheels so I certainly don't want it to look terrible. I really appreciate videos like this (I also watch the ones about doing wheels specifically). so as a previous coworker of Zach (from Hi-car on donut) i know these guys are all about enthusiasm for cars and love the community. theyre also making videos with the goal of getting views. i have also used dipyourcar's plastidip and your spray gun on my old 08 wrx way back in 2012. I had a really good experience with it, but i did a bunch of research beforehand and overkilled it on prep work. It turned out amazing because i followed all your advice and instructions.
I’m happy you speak up for your brand instead of letting stuff slide. They do seem like great goofy guys so it’ll all be good plus the collab between you two would be dope since they do a lot of history videos oriented towards cars and car community topics

Donut took full responsability for their screw up. Riding the tail coats of a more successful channel to gain noteriety is not a good look.
Glad to see you pinned their response. Nothing malicious in their video. They even went on to show their errors and shortcomings in the video and provided an example of how it can come out when you know what your doing. Much ado about nothing if you ask me. I understand you want to protect your business but your message could’ve been better. Kudos Nolan for the professional response and even talking collaboration.

Well Fonzi I follow both pages and they stated clearly that they did not know it was going to be that hard to install and that professional installation was awesome. They even showed some awesome plasti dip application on a Blue Civic. My car is dipped with your product and had my own challenges with the product for lack of knowledge. I think that dipping your car is amazing and even better than wrapping. All the best Fonz

Oh! I have dipped my rims several times and always get plenty of compliments, I have about 3 years on the current color and still looks good but it's time for a change since I have had a couple of tire changes, the wear is starting to show.

All I am going to say is that I love your products. I finally dipped my wheels for the first time and must say that I was really impressed. It’s a quality product and took your advise on making sure the wheel was super clean before spraying. Love the new look!!!! Saved me a lot of $$$ thanks
