    Hilarious back then they would completely redo the car and put a V12 in it and its still not good enough for an M badge but now every little trim upgrade comes with 5 of them.

      I‘d count Mercedes of that era to that. W201, W123 and W124 are timeless, potentially even a little more than BMWs of that time, given that you see a lot more of them on the road still (at least in Germany).

To have driven the first sequential turbo 911 and 928S, the Merc 600SL, a top Trim Audi 90 with the 20v turbo engine and manual gear box, and a 1988 BMW M5 on a twisty (at times) stretch of highway at triple digits speeds (at times)...and even a early version of the Lexus LS 400 at it's top speed on a really long stretch of road... man I had it good ~ grateful. • @Gentleman...Driver
      @Gentleman...Driver 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@erics8192 Absolutely agree. Yet, the public discussion focussed a lot to sustainability and environmental friendlyness in Germany at the time. The big three manufacturers (VW/Audi, BMW, Merc) came under a lot of pressure. This was at its peak with the defeat device scandal and later with the "Friday for Future" protests. I always thought this was a very hollow discussion, because maybe left leaning elites thought like this, but the majority of the people dont wished for a 3 cylinder high performance sportscar. And the rich elites would rather buy a Tesla or a Fisker. Or a Porsche SUV. lol
      The i3 and the i8 were flagship projects. A show off of technology and capability. They were constructed mostly out of carbon fiber, which was also to save the carbon fiber manufacturer in the portfolio of Susanne Klatten (she owns roughly 12% of the BMW group). She had invested a lot into SGL Carbon and the company was at risk.
