    I like to see how high the spark KV is to see if a cylinder may have low compression which may be due to low intake vacuum, your patterns go off the top of the screen. Thanks for the great case study.

    • @PhillipBailey
      @PhillipBailey  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would think that low compression would lower the spark KV in that cylinder but I never actually looked at that on this system. Interesting thought though trouble is there are other factors that can change the KV so I'm not sure if that would be conclusive or not. Thanks for watching.

    I took my 2010 to mechanic shop knowing the problem already. They ran diagnosis and got back with me and told me that they refuse to work on the motor that the only option I have is to pay $15k for a new motor swap.
    (Needs new Cam and lifter)
    😂 needless to say I drove it back home and will continue driving it locally here and there. As I have done for the past 4 years.

    • @PhillipBailey
      @PhillipBailey  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Most shops won't recommend internal engine repairs as its too expensive with lots of liability. Even the engine rebuilders hardly want to work on them. Maybe try find a used low mileage engine. A newer model engine, up to 2020 will work with some parts swapped

    • @PhillipBailey
      @PhillipBailey  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It appears to be a common problem. If the computer is flagging a specific cylinder then I'd recommend to swap the coil, swap or replace plugs and if the miss is still on the same cylinder pull valve cover and look at rocker arm travel. Normally a valve problem shows up on the vacuum gage needle but this one didn't for some reason. Good luck

Some plugs smelled like gas but not covered in oil or anything.. I have a bi-directional scanner. But I’m lost I have been reading alot of comments and watching videos. I replaced 1,3 injectors with new and no change. Car sounds like a Chevy 😂 misfires at idling soon as you start it up. I hope you still check these comments Thankyou !

    • @PhillipBailey

      It sounds like you have a restricted converter on that bank. The other possibility is a skewed O2 sensor on that bank. Have a look at the short and long term fuel trims. Should be no more than +/- 10%. Try unplugging the forward O2 on bank one. If its still showing misfires try removing the forward O2 and see if the misfires are eliminated. Is so check exhaust backpressure.

    • @PhillipBailey
      @PhillipBailey  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for pointing that out. You're correct the burn line was quite hashed compared to the other cylinder which would indicate greater turbulence during the burn event. I dont think I would have been able to make a call based on that though. Thanks for watching.

      There are other causes of misfire like plugs, coils and injectors. Driving for extended time with a misfire will damage the converter. You should at least eliminate the cheaper fixes. • @PhillipBailey
      @PhillipBailey  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The injector should have power from the ASD relay while running on one wire and is switched in the ground by the pcm. If you're testing for power with just the key in run power will be turned off after two seconds. Compare testing on a know good injector

      This was tested while vehicle was on by the mechanic and was not getting and pulse could that 100% be either bad wiring or pcm ??

    • @PhillipBailey
      @PhillipBailey  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @ginocrisano4804 usually that should set an injector driver code. I'd try unplugging the injector and see if it sets that code instead of the misfire code. The other logical explanation is the pcm is purposely shutting off the injector as part of its failsafe strategy to protect the converter. I'd connect a noid light on the injector, clear all codes then start the engine to see if the injector works until it sets the misfire code.

    • @PhillipBailey
      @PhillipBailey  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well the flashing MIL indicates there is a significant misfire potentially damaging the catalyst. If its setting a P0305 then try moving the number 5 coil to a different location. could be sparkplug/s, coil, injector or mechanical. Swapping parts is easy to do and if the problem follows the coil then replace it. You will need to clear the code after moving parts around. • @PhillipBailey
      @PhillipBailey  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A misfire can be caused by a number of things. Sparkplug, coil, injector not delivering proper fuel and internal engine problems like low compression, improper valve operation as this one had. Pretty common for lifter failures on these engines. P1414 is probably related to the P0304 and is a problem with the solenoid that controls the MSD lifters on number 4. Not an air pump code and unless you are in California I doubt the truck has an air pump. Research the P1414 problem. HTH

      @@mikeprice8307 bluedriver should be able to display the short term and long term fuel trims on bank 1 and 2. If they are greater than 10% plus or minus it indicates a problem. Plus trims suggest the engine is running lean due to things like low fuel pressure or an induction leak. Negative trims suggest the engine is running rich possibly high fuel pressure. If one side is affected more than the other you have a problem on that bank. You might have a restricted catalytic converter as well good luck

    • @PhillipBailey
      @PhillipBailey  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      if the rocker arm doesn't move like the others the camshaft lobe is worn off. Requires cylinder heads removed and front of engine disassembled to remove the cam and lifters. Not a cheap job.

    • @PhillipBailey
      @PhillipBailey  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Voorhees666Drummer thats a tough call. My customer opted to replsce the engine assembly with a reman. They did the job themselves. My guess to repair the engine would be around $5500.00 CAN. . So much depends on what else you do while in there. You have to remove the heads for instance so do you have them rebuilt while they are off? Do you replace all the lifters or just tge failed ones, new water pump? Do you remove the engine completely or just the heads in the vehicle. I'd recommend engine removal as its much easier to work on once out.

    Could this cause a misfire on two cylinders that are across from each other? I have one that has 5 and 6 misfire. Swapped coils and no change. Will do plugs on Monday and see if there's a change. #6 piston is wet, #5 is dry if that's relevant. Thanks

    • @PhillipBailey

      Usually it only affects one cylinder and it appears to be most common for number 5 to fail. That being said it could also be a bad coil or injector. Have to eliminate one at a time. Good luck

    Thanks for a GREAT video. My nephew spent $4500 to get his cam and lifters replaced on his 5.7 at the dealer where he is a salesman, four months ago. Now it is missing real bad, so I told him to bring it to me and I would put my scanner on it and check it out. I'm 71 and retired and have never had a vehicle in a shop. I know Chrysler had cheap lifters made in china from about 09-14 for their hemis . I haven't had a chance to look at it yet, but I think the same thing has happened, the lifter rollers lock up and grind the cam lobes down.When the stealership did it, they went back with the same crappy lifters, and said that was what Chrysler makes them do. I told my nephew if I would have done the job I would have replaced the cam, and replaced the MDS lifters with upgraded nonMDS lifters, and command the ecm to disable the MDS system so it would run on 8 cylinders ALL the time

    • @PhillipBailey
      @PhillipBailey  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Misfire can be caused by lack of or weak spark, poor or no fuel delivery from that injector or mechanical problems in the engine like low compression or a valve that does not open or close properly. A compression test is often inconclusive as valves have lots of time to open at cranking speed. A vacuum gage on the purge solenoid vacuum port might show a valve issue indicated by a pulsing needle. You could try swapping the injector to a different location. Are you sure it's missing on number 1 (the front cylinder on drivers side). Sometimes it flags the wrong cylinder. I'd start by checking compression and comparing to the other cylinders, swap or replace the injector and then pull the valve cover and watch rocker arm movement.

      @PhillipBailey I worked it it this pasted weekend. I cleaned the injectors. Re checked the plugs and coiled and they checked out fine. Put everything back together, now computer is saying multiple miss fires. My buddy told me it might be a sensor issue, so I unplug my battery for 30 minutes to reset the computer, plugged it back in and turn it on it was idling how it should be (before it was idling rough) took it for a drive ran perfect, then engine light came on and start idling rough again, and I could feel it misfire. Hooked it up again to computer it still says cylinder 1 and multiple misfires. What could that mean?.. a computer issue or sensor issue? BTW thank you so much for replying back to me!

      @@xAvengerxDudeMann I'd say to pull off the left valve cover and check the valve movement carefully.
