This is the best all inclusive video I have seen on misfires. We'll articulated and easy to understand. I'm dealing with a reoccurring misfire on an older 5 cylinder Hummer. Wish I had seen this video 2 months ago. It's taken me 2 months to learn and be acquainted with pretty every possibility you demonstrated here. 👍
BENT COIL CONNECTOR PIN: I had an annoying and hard to trouble shoot P0300 code on my 6 cylinder 2003 GMC Envoy XL. I had replaced the spark plugs and coils and the code and misfire would not go away. Why it did not trigger a P030x error, I don't know. Just passing this along as something simple for others to check. Have a nice day!
So great to have you back making videos! You're already making a difference. Just yesterday I was test driving a 2008 Lincoln town car with 4.6L V8 and the car was shaking and had low power. It got progressively worse during the 15 min test drive. Check engine light came on solid at first and then started flashing after about 5 minutes. We had to drive another 7-6 more minutes to get it back to owner's place. Owner ran a scanner and came up a bunch of codes: P0305 misfire cylinder 5; B1990 Pedal Forward / Rearward Potentiometer circuit fault; B1676 Battery voltage out of range; B1318 Low battery voltage at module. So first thought it was only a cylinder 5 misfire problem and maybe just addressing this would fix it the flashing check engine light. But luckily I came upon your video that point out there could be other potential causes. Could a single cylinder misfire cause a flashing check engine light or would it take more than that? Could just the cylinder 5 misfire also lead to all the low voltage codes that were also detected? You mentioned how low system voltage affecting multiple components can lead to misfires and in this car all these low voltage codes came up. With a flashing check engine light, how much engine or cat damage could occur if you drive the car like this for 7-10 minutes? Could just a few minutes driving with a flashing check engine light cause damage? Thanks again for all you do!
Its usually bad coil packs. BOOM! Saved you 5 minutes. Trq, i especially love how everything works outnin your videos or how you only do the easy thigs, like the front but not rear spark plugs in an older buick century. Or how everythinf magically just ligns up in replacing motor mounts on a vehicle.
What about fuel pressure? What about a bad transmission? I have a 2011 Toyota Tundra that runs great until I put it in drive or reverse. Starts misfiring and shaking all over the place. Help.
this is happening to my 2006 TL automatic, only at WOT through a couple gears, doesn’t seem to run rough, just flashes these pending codes or occasionally a current code. it has all new plugs and coils and i’ve checked the egr system and the only thing i’ve found it a bit of oil in the spark plug wells

Eric, thank you. My po300 is set at high speed. It could be my my cam phasors or oil galleys that supply them with oil pressure. I will test the kiwi hanging fruits first like smoking the engine....
A clogged leaking muffler is not exhausting the heat and stock at the resonator outlet pipe. MAP Sensor 2012 nissan sentra it's in the canister right rear and the MAF Sensor is mounted front outlet of the air box.
Thank you Eric. I took my 2006 Saturn Vue off the road four years ago and am finally getting around putting it back into service (long story). The last thing I need to do is buy and new battery for it but before I did I connected th Saturn to the battery in my Nissan (which I disconnected for the car). The Saturn started up and it ran, but then I noticed the CEL lit (not flashing) and the engine was running a bit rough. Plugged in my OBD CAN scanner and retrieved a P0300. I'm going to start with the simplest, least expensive and take it from there. I'm wondering if the four year old gasoline is a possible culprit or maybe the injectors are junked up from sitting for four years. Also, maybe the long jumper cables I used to run my Saturn through imposed a significant voltage drop. Guess I'll find out once I roll up my sleeves and start diagnosing.
Great great video. My battery is starting to get weak and I don’t drive it very often so it makes matters worse. I suspected the battery as a cause for the misfire and crazy engine shaking since it occurred right after a cold start up twice in the past 40 days and only 200 miles of driving. The resting voltage of the battery is about 11.8 v. In the past I replaced the batteries before I had any issues . Will do more testing to confirm.
Great info. Quick question....can a cracked engine block or something major like this also cause this misfiring? The reason I ask is that I just had to get a Jeep Patriot engine replaced after 160K miles as the shop (reputable and I think honest) tested all of those other things and the Jeep engine simply wouldn't run. Since getting the engine replaced I've had no issues and I don't believe they replaced any of the existing electronics or vacuum lines, etc.. They did replace spark plugs in this used engine just to start clean although the coil packs were probably from original engine. One thing I did just replace the other day was my battery which suddenly died although it was almost 5 years old and the past couple days were the first cold ones since last winter. In your video you did mention voltage could also impact these electronics and their operation but I think the previous battery was tested a few months ago and was still holding a charge and I was using it until the other day with this replaced engine so it had to be working fine with the replaced engine. That P0300 code is annoying...as an I.T. person I equate this to the Windows operating system general protection fault from the old window's days which meant.....good luck finding the cause :-)
What about on a 76 F150 390 FE with original autolite or remand carb? I HAVE A LOW COMPRESSION #4 ABOUT 20 LESS THAN NEXT LOWEST 1. first check for compression on all cylinders to assure no holes in pistons, headgaskets, valves etc 2. check plugs wires coil etc ALL GOOD/REPLACED 3. check intake area for vac leaks with carb cleaner PLUGGED ALL NON ESSENTIAL VAC PORTS except brake, pcv, Dist, tranny BUT I STILL have a misfire also has an off idle stumble and very fine rust/dust in pre pump fuel filter so ive ordered new tank, sender and carb to hopefully fix stumble. Would a leakdown test narrow it down or can you already say what the problem is?
He's absolutely right. When the alternator or the battery goes bad while driving is at its edge of failing the car will either stall or sputter even If the connections for the terminals on the battery is loose
2011 Chevy Cruze Turbo (Keep in mind neighbor has messed with golf cart twice and removed the cables because he tried bullying me and I didn't let him) out of nowhere my car started overheating and the cable either was cut or melted. How all the sudden does all the fluid poor out? I took it to the auto repair shop and they replaced the hose for the antifreeze and said it was way too low and leaking out of the hose. They said the transmission was bad and it will hesitate forward and reverse for two seconds before going into gear.
We had a medical emergency and had to drive about 500 miles with a Flashing Check Engine Light caused by a failed Igition Coil on a 2019 Ford E450 RV with the 6.8 V10 with 20K miles on it. A Ford dealer replaced the igition coil under warranty, said everything else is OK. RV runs fine. What happened to all the unburnt fuel that went into that cylinder? Did blow out though the exhaust, blow by the rings? The oil had less that 1000 miles it at the time, still looks good on the dip stick. Thinking on changing it anyway before the next trip. No other error codes now. Any thoughs appreciated.

After a rat chewed on my coil wire which was shorting on a metal tube ( ground ) when I go to live data it only gives info on 4 cylinders. It is a 6 cylinder. In the past my scanner gave info on all 6 cylinders. A standard coil puts out 20k - 30k positive voltage. With that much voltage going to ground I think it has caused a problem inside the ECM. What do you think? I don't see any other damage to my wiring.

Hi Eric. Thanks for your videos. I have a problem I am hoping you can shed some light on. I had engine misfire and replaced all. the coils and spark plugs. The misfire went away. Also have a new fuel filter. Six months later, I am experiencing a random misfire. Sometimes the car runs perfectly, and all of the sudden it misfires for a few seconds and the "Service engine light soon" flashes on and off during the misfire. No check engine light. Then it goes back to running ok. I have poured motor treatment liquids to see if cleaned injectors and the such. Once it misfires, I can detect a P0300 code and troubleshooting this has been difficult. I do not get more specific codes. 2003 GMC Envoy XL 4.2L 6 Cyl. Any thoughts?

Hey Eric, I have a 2000 Acura RL and I had the codes and replaced coils with TRQ, still have the same codes showing, P0300, P13001-1306. Had TRQ send me another set of coils and still having the codes, what do you suggest?
I had a P0300 code on my 2000 tacoma prerunner, and it would shake and misfire on cold start and then even out as it ran longer. The weird part is that the code went away after I added some injector cleaner. My truck now cranks over a little more then usual on cold start but is running almost the same w a slight loss of power. Anyone have any ideas why or what I can do to help my engine?

I had a P0300 code on my 2000 tacoma prerunner, and it would shake and misfire on cold start and then even out as it ran longer. The weird part is that the code went away after I added some injector cleaner. My truck now cranks over a little more then usual on cold start but is running almost the same w a slight loss of power. Anyone have any ideas why or what I can do to help my engine?
Very helpful Thank you for sharing

Im not gonna lie.. if it RANDOMLY happens-- it's probably related to the valve springs or valve seats.
