  • Experimenting with the Xtool is part of the fun. Here I test the use of Masking Tape, a wet paper towel and soap, to etch with a diode laser. I put them on the Xtool RA2 Pro rotary tool and share the results.

    I bought a xtool D1 20 watt in November of 2021. It paid for itself in a month. By Jan of 2022 I bought a 100watt c02(paid for itself in 4 months), 2023 a 50w dedicated to tumblers and just purchased a 60 watt fiber laser and these are all running while I'm making furniture for my business. They are amazing and very addictive. I have a CNC which is awesome as well but the lasers are much easier to use and I find myself running them a lot more. But all of this happened because of my little watt xTool and some hustle. Highly recommended to get an xTool D1for an entry level to see if you want to move up.

    I bought an xtool D1 back in December last year and just recently purchased the Air assist and the new Rotary attachment which is really great for many items. I made several items, coasters, etched shot glasses, engraved tumblers and went to a few open houses in the mortgage business.. I marketed myself. Between online sales, word of mouth and personal relationships.. I've just recently got my small business license. So the xtool is definitely a money maker.

    Great video. I have a D1 pro extended that I recently purchased. I tried all of those methods as well with no good results. What were your settings and laser distance to the glass?

    • @GeorgeKennerLaser
      @GeorgeKennerLaser  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      check to see if the lens over the laser is fogged. As you use it at the higher power level, it seems to cloud that lens and reduce power. The lens cover can be purchased for like $14.00 I did a video on this. I did the vast majority of glass etching with their program, not Lightburn. So I am not sure want settings would be best for you. I suggest holding on to say a pint glass and write out the strength your testing and see what setting work best for you.

    • @GeorgeKennerLaser
      @GeorgeKennerLaser  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The color came from the masking tape. But it was sorta uneven. I have got the same "inked" color from using the Zinc Cold Galvanizing Compound and turning down the power just a tiny bit. Different Glass types and colors work differently. Just to make a point I am only using the software that came with the Xtool to do all of this. I am not using lightburn in these experiments so the person who may try it does not have to master Lightburn. You will get better results with more control. The next video is being edited NOW... I bet you like that one.

    • @GeorgeKennerLaser
      @GeorgeKennerLaser  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The process with tape works best with a CO2 laser, what I was doing was experimenting with some other solutions. I really dislike the idea of using high zinc paint. The best I have found so far it the Tempara paint evenly sprayed on with a air brush or Preval.

    • @GeorgeKennerLaser

      @@agentjay4494 I have found that the best is Tempara paint evenly painted on the glass. It gives a nice satin finish to the glass.

    I am trying to do stemless champagne flutes and I cannot get a good etch. I am auto measuring in the middle of the glass as it's tapered. Usually the bottom of the design is not coming out. It looks "crunchy" to me. Sometimes I get a good etch, usually in my test, then I put my real glass in - exact same settings, and it's bad! The design is 4.25" tall, so I'm using most of the glass from top to bottom. I have burned through so many glasses. I will get a good etch, take it out and put in a new glass. If I remeasure - it will change the measurement, even though it's basically the same glass. I'm using a chuck. Using tempra paint from the dollar store.
