The Zenith II Extreme has 8 Dimm Slots for ram, a way bigger socket and way more PciE Lanes.
So why is the platform with a consumer socket (wich is much smaler so cheaper to manufacture) way way more expensive than a high end platform wich sells less units?

  • @decimus2840
    @decimus2840 ปีที่แล้ว +5

I would say put your main NVME m.2 on the board not the GEN-Z.2 due to it using the CPU PCIe lanes vs chipset lanes. Specifically the left m.2 slot which is the one that uses the 4x lanes AMD AM5 has for m.2 use(the other 4x General purposes CPU PCIe lanes seem to be used for the Intel JHL8540 USB4 controller(yes this does allow Thunderbolt even though it isn't mentioned).
Using the right m.2 slot will cut your main PCIe5 slot to 8x and your second PCIe5 slot to 4x. This is also why the PCIe adapter only has one slot I assume as using it also cuts your main PCIe5 slot to 8x. So 4x for this and 4x second board m.2 slot(right one). AMD AM5 only has 28 PCIe 5 lanes: 16 lanes for PCIe5 slots and 8x General Purpose lanes(4x used here for the primary m.2 and 4x for the USB4/Thunderbolt chip(i think), 4x to link to the chipset. The GEN-Z.m is chipset as far as I know so is not as fast.
The main reason I got this board was for the RAID so I did a lot of benchmarks. It's RAID sucks for SATA HDD. I tried 2 Exos and then 2 IronWolf Pro 18 TB. RAIDxpert 2 drops the RAID on waking from sleep for Windows 11. Did a ton of trouble shooting with no luck. The NVME m.2 RAID is pretty fast though. Even on the chipset slots VS the CPU slots.
2x 2TB Kingston FURY Renegades gen4 in RAID 0 get 14135MB/s(SEQ1M Q8T1) on CPU lanes and 10722MB/s (SEQ1M Q8T1) on the ROG GEN-Z.2 adapter. I did a lot of benchmarks of these and Terramaster D8-332 RAID Thunderbolt enclosure with 8 Seagate Exos 18TB in RAID 0 and 1/0.
Also on the GEN-Z.2 adapter one side is NVME Gen 5 and one is Gen 4. I assume they expect the Gen5 NVME to be hotter hence the pipe only on one side.

the reason they didnt space it out more is due to trace length (and he knows this had he thought more about it) expensive board is meant to be more then just expensive, meaning top performance, and longer traces, result is worse overclocking for the memory among other things people do with 1000+ hardware.

Consider... back when computing was booting up... $2000 would get you a complete 386 or 486 system... which you can basically get on a single card these days for practically nothing. So this MB costing $1K could be justified quite easily, considering inflation. Just how much you got, how much you want to take your computing up the ladder will determine if you pop for this MB. Overall though, I like Asus products.

I'm doubting very much the x670e extreme crosshair is another 479 better then that board anyway. i kept my purchase when i first signed on on launch day with am5 to a more reasonable which really wasn't very reasonable 1300 out the door. i bought a ryzen 9 7900x, an asrock x670e steel legend, 32 gb of g skill trident z neo ddr5-6000 expo ram kit and a samsung 980 pro 1tb ssd. that honestly wasn't cheap at all. and i did get 20 off the board out the door at microcenter. i get plenty of performance out of my system i feel and i dont feel like im sacrificing ANYTHING really on performance. and yes i absolutely understand the allure of epeen. im running an rtx 3090 ftw3 ultra still almost 2 years after purchase from microcenter when cards where obtusely expensive. im sure asus probably handed you that board jay and i fully understand, if you've got it flaunt it. but even you admit, its kind of ridiculous.

I didn't think this was an unboxing video. I wished to extract useful information about the board-I already know it’s a grand.
I’m on the fence about buying it. I’m curious whether slotting the m.2 in the 2nd pcie lane will half the bandwidth from 16x down to 8x on the main lane. I suspect it does, in which case this board effectively only has 4 m.2 slots not 5 because no sensible human being will amputate the legs on a $2,000 gpu in order to make use of an m.2 ssd.

Models like this should speak for themselves in sophistication.
Brands that place their name in imposing positions OR the model name in the same (like this one)... generally displease their buyer base. It's the entire point that exclusivity equates to sophistication - not a bogan advertising opportunity.

If it can do two x16 slots (and not slowing down to x8 when used simultaneously) maybe it's useful?
    Edit: nope, it's still x8+x8

If your motherboard covers the basic chipset spec then it does all of what you need and most of what you want. Anything else should be covered by an extra 50-100 dollers. Everything else is absurdly superfluous.
The difficulty I have with these products is that they're pushing pc gaming into luxury territory (and pricing), when there's no need.

If you are using rtx 3090, you still can get at the m.2's on the motherboard with the video card installed. The panel under the video card is a led panel.
I am running this board because I wanted the 10gb cause my home is set up for 10g for my NAS.
I had issues with the first board i got, but it may have been a bios issue. By the time I got a new board, a new bios came out, and it's been fine since.

i dont like how they are trying to make some pc parts so expensive it will be out of reach except for the really rich. its actually going to eventually get to a point its the same as when you see people in the Lamborghini and you gotta be happy with the corolla because they aimed for the money
