Asus offered to fly out to GN headquarters to talk about this to Steve and his team. When Steve said they would record the whole conversation, Asus never responded.
As a former ASUS employee, none of this surprises me. After laying me off, they tried to push me into signing a form that said I would never say anything negative about ASUS, its current/future products, or current/future employees. If I do ever say anything negative, they assured me they would take legal action. Since I didn't sign it, I received no severance pay (they offered a paltry 3 weeks' pay if I signed), which goes against the whole "we're a family" thing that they push on you from the moment you join. Edit: For those asking, the document was called a "Non-disparagement agreement" and while it wasn't illegal at the time, such practices have been outlawed in the US since. I would guess that they don't use this practice any longer, but they did when I was laid off last year.
Classic example of marketing/financial department calling the shots in a corp environment. That is a death sentence for a tech hardware business. Just a matter of time.
@@tiexiaowang7939 not really. There's not much in the law requiring severance, so companies often give decent severance in exchange for the employee signing a waiver of some kind so that they can't sue.

We have tremendous power, IF we're willing to wield it. It's called "not buying their bullshit". Hit them in their wallets and you'll see these anti-consumer practices come to a stop pretty f*cking quick. Same goes for Nvidia right now and their outrageous prices for the 40 series.

the thing is it's not random hate for audience. it's experience, and multiplication of misfortunes which are not coincidences. i totally understand the point of that video, as a customer perspective. and at the end of the day, even if it's coincidence, it's up to asus to prove the opposite at this point of dissatisfaction. i'm still considering asus proart monitors but for pc parts such as motherboard, that video will definitely influence my influence, for my own customers when i build machines for others. nice to meet you devil. i'm michael from france.
The brands need to understand, it's not about being perfect and not having any issues with your products, it's about the willing to solve those issues, and the way you treat your customers in the process.
Exactly! Shit happens. We get that, but don't gaslight and try to fuck over your customers with a fix that voids the warranty. How a business handles a problem I have with their product leaves a lasting impression far more than the product or the problem. There sad thing that ASUS doesn't understand is that people are so used to bad customer service that it doesn't take a lot to leave a good impression. Be upfront and honor your warranty without making people jump through hoops, and people will think your customer service is fucking amazing.
That's why EVGA is well respected and supported in leaving the GPU market. I had a 2070 for roughly 2 years and then a 3070. They've been great cards and when I had to RMA my 3070 they were fast at getting a replacement.
@@Kruscle I do hope they come back one day. Maybe make some Radeon boards. I loved EVGA. I bought 4 of their cards over the years. Why change brands if it works? And they work solidly. They do not pump out shit.

This deeply upsets me. My first RMA experience with ASUS was phenomenal. I purchased one of their high end X58 boards and it went DOA within three months. I called their outstanding (at the time) US based support, and they sent me another board with no questions asked. The new one arrived, I shipped out the old one, and that was it. It was an experience that made me an ASUS customer for life and I haven’t bothered looking at other brands since. Asus used to have a hands on culture with their community. I remember downloading beta bios for that board from a community forum sponsored by Asus. Their community managers used to offer these and they would not void your warranty. So sad.
beta bios will void your warranty as we speak, also users with a faulty motherboard under warranty, received another faulty motherboard, and so on until 3 or more motherboards were ditched. Moral of the story, ASUS motherboards are faulty and need to address their quality control, it could be a motherboard for a 700 US computer or a 4k computer, they do not care. At the end they are chinese and their quality sucks . The components not made by asus are absolutely great, but ASUS is failing with their components.
I am currently in the process of getting my Asus Mobo warrantied. There was no contact number and when I requested the RMA the response was we will either repair it or send a replacement that is equal or better than what I had. Once they received it I got an automated email saying they basically make no promises about repair time due to covid (still as of January 4th 2024) and made no mention of any sort of replacement regarding if it would take a while to source the necessary parts needed to repair. So I'm just left wondering if I should wait an unknown amount of time or just buy myself a new board.

@@Tarvoskemwer Unfortunately in the US, we don't have ombudsman. Members of the house of reps will often fill this role in an informal capacity, but they are not really required to. It just depends on whether or not your local rep actually cares about looking out for the people.
The frustrating thing about your CPU socket situation is that had it been any other regular consumer without backchannels to go through, they'd have just claimed that the customer damaged it themselves and refuse to provide any further support.
That's exactly what happened to me with Crosshair Impact VIII SSD board. Screws were screwed in so tight it was impossible to remove them. Asus support claimed it was my fault, and to get it fixed i had to pay for the shipping. Never buying another Asus product again. Absolute scumbags.
This seems to be a really common sentiment towards them, but it really confuses me because I've had the complete opposite experience with them, I've pretty much only ever heard negative things about their products, support and pretty much everything else. I have 2 rog monitors which are great but other than that everything else has been negative. like one of those small tablet laptop things that i got about 4 years ago and barely used because it ran so shit it was literally unusable and just stopped working about a year or 2 later.

@@anydaynow01 Honestly every mainboard brand has its issues, the issues with Asus probably just crossed the line now. Gigabyte releases a board where PCIe 4.0 doesnt work, the original Z690 Gaming X had a long ass boot time... AsRock has some boards with mediocre VRMs and BIOS support especially with the fast changing AGESA is sometimes lacking (non-ATX board tho so probably a bit niche). I guarantee it was greed from "cost cutting" which likely came from getting rid of staff, procedures, cheaper components and outsourcing as much as possible! Love the video! Hold more shady brands accountable!
Sales became in charge of engineers. More than likely. Look at Boeing. The grumbling coming out of there is everything changed when a new CEO took over a decade-ish ago and moved the headquarters to Chicago and left engineering in Seattle. They started firing senior engineers for cost cutting and stopped listening to others on issues. I use Boeing as an example as that's literally planes falling out of the sky level of bad management not listening to the engineers, which is as bad as it gets. But this plays out all the time. I know it's happening anecdotally with ASUS because just a month ago Steve had a rant on board features and talked about engineers at the company saying they needed to get sales to see these things as important if they wanted to include them on products. Which means engineers do not have final say on how good or bad a product that leaves the door is.
@halycon404 Well said! Exactly how it is... unfortunately my work is doing something similar, outsourcing our engineering and design to india... Can you guess how well that's going?? Lol

That beta bios move, supposedly fixing the issue, yet voiding the warranty (in small letters) is utterly sickening and disgusting. Thank you for sharing this.
Nah mate. If you're tech savvy enough to install a bios update to fix a problem.. you should know to never flash beta software for something so serious as BIOS(which is actually UEFI now, but we are calling it BIOS). This is really mostly your fault. Obviously Asus screwed up big time with that ryzen chip overclocking bios, but the warning was there: Installing beta bios voids warranty... this is mostly users fault. Also there are always risks with overclocking and it isn't allowed by the cpu manufacturer, so that voids the cpu warranty too. So it is the user's fault. ASUS recently tried to claim my board was customer induced damage because "the pins were bent." One of the pins was twice as long as it was supposed to be. They are definitely looking for any excuse to not honor warranties. "But you don't care" hits hard mans. Right in the feels.
ASUS has done this for years, unfortunately. I'm honestly surprised it took this long for outcry. If the pin in question was a motherboard header it sounds like the pin was pulled out of place. Usually a combination of poor solder quality and being too rough with the connector.
@Sara Mae are you suggesting the consumer magically placed stay longer? Pin in there? What tool do you think would be able to do that without damaging everything else?
@Sara Mae Only because a company has a policy for testing all products this does not mean that: a) All products are actually tested. In many cases if the testing equipment is out of order products are shipped without testing b) The testing method catches all kinds of defects c) After detecting a defect the product does not still make it on the "good products" stack
@Sara Mae Many companies that mass produce products take periodic samples off the assembly line for QA testing. Vehicle manufacturers often do this rather than drive every vehicle extensively. They don't test every board. If they did, we'd never have lemons that don't work right out of the box.

Not every or nay content provider/influencer has the stones to to tell it like it is and much less publicly fire a sponsor... Jay, huge respect and admiration for speaking out for those of us being stepped on with no voice in the matter!!! As of watching this i returned my Asus MB and went with a Taichi... Thx again Jay!!!
Thanks for the honesty Jay. It makes me sad- I have a 2022 G14 and a ROG Strix motherboard in my desktop build. Both have been super solid, but all of this anti-consumer behavior will definitely have me looking very carefully when I decide to upgrade in a few years. Thank goodness independent media is here to keep these large corporations in check. Thank you Jay!
The sad thing about this, many years ago I had two775 chaintech mobo's (same type) fail one after another. First one the shop i bought it at, replaced it no questions. Two weeks later the other board went, took it back, where the shop offered a full refund or replacement board, they recommended Asus. I went with the Asus board, I was so impressed that it was still running ten years later, last time i turned it on. All my boards, (apart from an Asrock gaming PC ) have been Asus, wouldn't hesitate in recommending Asus.. After watching GN and Mr 2Cent Can't say I'm inclined to do that anymore! Oh how the mighty have fallen, Asus aint my hero anymore., Which really sucks- Asus. Do better.
@John Kurokawa - I've never had any issues with ROG, and I've been using those components for the past 7+ years (motherboards, phones), as I usually build my PC from scratch every couple of years (one of those for gaming, but also with 100+ GB or RAM for use with Vmware Workstation, or Hyper-V). It is kind of difficult to believe that in the global scale - they would screw it all up. Not that I don't believe as such, but they always had a good components in their products (ROG ones - not sure about other ones, such "usual classic" Asus, ,without the ROG label).
My 2021 G15 has been fantastic, but yeah... after this story, I'm certainly not going back to Asus. Even once they "fix" this, the company has burned a lot of bridges lately. That's going to leave a lasting impact.
Very cool to see you're on top of this with Asus. I finally abandoned them altogether when I returned a $350 motherboard for faulty power connections and they refused to repair or replace AND sent me pictures of bent pins in the CPU socket that WEREN'T bent when I sent it in for warranty work. Other incidents before that led me to believe they've turned into a garbage company for the last few years and I'm DONE with them.
You have more respect from me then anyone else when you stand up for the customer/little guy with very little cash, and big companies who take our money and screw us at the same time. All my respect.
We need more public figures and "influencers" to act like this. Companies would be scared straight, if this was the publicity they all got, all over the web. Keep it up, and kudos!
Agreed. I purchased a brand new 4070 Super and was thrilled to install and use it, only to discover that it wasn't compatible with my motherboard-only mine. This issue was widely discussed across forums. When I reached out to Nvidia directly for support, they seemed unaware of the problem and consequently couldn't offer any assistance. Needless to say, I ended up purchasing a new motherboard from a different manufacturer, as I won't be investing in any more ASUS products in the future. Even if their products are excellent at the time, it's unacceptable not to provide support for your own products or update them when issues like this persist for months. Adding insult to injury, the GPU itself is from ASUS.
Glad to see you and others taking a stand. I had a terrible support experience with them years ago that made me boycott the brand for myself and any PC build for friends/family. And for the cost of some of these products, there's no excuse for not providing real support.
Had a similar experience. Asus customer support immediately went condescending & defensive as soon as my problem was reported to them in addition to the “leaving on hold long enough for you to get tired of waiting” trick. The last Asus product I purchased was for my wife’s Ryzen 2600X & I will stay away from Asus until they deserve to have my business back.
Much respect to you for not selling out and staying true..... New level of respect for you and the channel ! Just kudos to you, a hugely refreshing move.
I've used a total of two ASUS motherboards in the last 8 years. The first one I bought back in 2015... Its still in use to this day in my gf's rig. Zero issues for 8 years. Seeing ASUS's decline is truly sad.
my first asus board is also still running..... from 1999. P3V4X, slot-1 pentium! ive built easily over 500 systems with asus boards over the years (i do it for a living), with minimal issues. but the way theyre treating people via support lately, ive been looking at other brands for my customers. very sad.
@@ghomerhust If you ask me, it started when ASUS and Pegatron split up. ASUS never again had the rock solid, premium quality and multi generation support they used to have throughout the 1990's and very early 2000's.
Same, I've been using Asus since the inception of RoG boards. Legacy i7 processors to my latest 10th gen i9. Had no issues or problems with their RMA process.
Really appreciate the video and you using your platform to make a stand. Hope it makes a difference down the road with asus , but even if it does not , at least folks that seen this will do their research before blindly buying “xxxx” brand. I kind of wish one of the big TH-camrs such as you or GN would maybe go the extra mile and give folks a solution in instances like this. Like hey this company is less $hit, here was our blind support experience with each one. Possibly do a video on the big companies support process. Maybe take 5 or more random parts from random vendors and go through the warranty process as the average joe and show your experience. Kind of like a secret shopper. Could even have viewers that maybe have a defective product in warranty send them in for you to use as a test case. I know it’s not gonna be a huge sample size . However if you had 10 instances with motherboards or video cards with Asus, MSI or Gigabyte and 7 out of 10 positive with one brand and 3 out of 10 with the others … I feel like it would empower the viewers. Viewers would maybe speak with their $$$ and force the $hit vendors to step up. Because as an average consumer it’s hard to pick one brand. Reddit is full of people crapping on each brand lol. I mean I get it , folks are less likely to go on Reddit and say wow I had the best time ever. Some do, but folks are more likely to go out of their way to complain about a bad one. I dunno just a thought. Kind of like your “which brand we can trust in 2022” video but with more in depth look into the actual RMA of each. Which that video kind blew my mind with how much asus went down in a year. Either way thanks for all that you do in your videos and keep being you ❤
I am new to PC gaming and I rely on channels like yours and Gamers Nexus for your opinions. You guys have been doing this much longer than myself and your knowledge is more than mine. I can't express how much I respect, appreciate and value you and other channels standing up to these corporations by telling it how it is. High five to Phil and Jay for supporting the greater good!
This is the reason I come to these channels (JTC, GN). Not necessarily "this sucks and should never be purchased", but certainly "this is happening, and needs to be fixed. Make up your own mind before purchase".
Glad Australia has strong RMA policies. You don't mess with the producer, you just go to the store and grab a new part and get cleared at the register in 5 mins. I bought a wireless thermometer that broke and the company wanted me to ship to America for RMA, with no guarantee it would be replaced. Just went back to the store and got a new one in seconds
I think that's the real secret, plus sending things into the country can take awhile. The middle-man has a stronger voice and a bigger stake with that system.
@@brodriguez11000 But it seems a little unfair for the middle man to be responsible for the manufactures crappy product, no? It's impossible for a retail store to be fully informed about all their thousands of products...they are after all...just the middle man. I would argue a law like that just further proves that the rich (the manufactures) are always protected.
Thanks Jay. I've been on ASUS autopilot for 15+ years building PCs, as they've never let me down. I just bought a 670E-E board, thankfully waiting on a GPU block before I build, and have been seeing so many issues with these boards, it's made me very apprehensive. Once I saw this video, I knew the fates had decided...went on Amazon for a return and I'm dropping the board off to UPS first thing in the morning and now giving MSI a first try in my system.
I know there's a lot of water has gone under the bridge since May of last year but the comments keep coming - here's mine. I didn't know to listen to you a year ago. I'm heading into my 8th Decade soon - it was all I could do to shop for a Gaming purchase, a G10CE to play an air traffic control sim on. The past month has been a horrendous journey of learning and trying to reconcile what ASUS has done to me. Watching this video has been a genuine source of healing. For that and so much more, Thank You.

I had the same issue with the apex 13 they denied it ( bent pin ) asked to trash it (£600 😢) I refused it they sent back to me in one rubbish card box instead of the original one . I’ve spend easy half a million on this brand in 25 year . The way they treat us in Europe is awful . You’ve said it all . Thank you 🙏

he technically lost them last year since they cant even try to get a contract together but every other brand did it by january. i personally never liked the ROG branding because it comes off as arrogant, even back when i built my 6700k rig
Good thing I ran across this. I was about to put $2,000 down on a ASUS laptop from BestBuy. Went back and did some reading/rating by many of the customers who have purchased that model and so many of them are having several problems with it. Quality control is just garbage at ASUS. Thanks for saving me headache.

I wish I had not been 3 months late seeing this video. It would have changed my mind on dealing with an Asus product period. I purchased a ROG gaming router and had an issue with the routers software, I contacted Asus' support. Jay is absolutely correct about their support being a joke. Every time I called or emailed about the routers software issue, they wouldn't even get the issue I was having correct. I kept getting the line, "You will be contacted by higher tier support within 24-28 hours". I was NEVER contacted by 'Higher Tier' support. Just stuck with the form readers in India that never helped me. So, never again will I buy another Asus product!

Honestly, This makes me think about the other video he made talking about how many of these companies are just simply not doing good enough QA and we as PC enthusiasts are paying the price for it.

Same here. I used to do the same like, hmmm, 20 years ago or so IIRC.

"Name and shame is the deal of the game."
Capitalism at its finest alas.
Lol

@Sara Mae found one of the corrupt ASUS employee's
@Sara Mae are you suggesting the consumer magically placed stay longer? Pin in there? What tool do you think would be able to do that without damaging everything else?
@Sara Mae Only because a company has a policy for testing all products this does not mean that:
a) All products are actually tested. In many cases if the testing equipment is out of order products are shipped without testing
b) The testing method catches all kinds of defects
c) After detecting a defect the product does not still make it on the "good products" stack
@Sara Mae Many companies that mass produce products take periodic samples off the assembly line for QA testing. Vehicle manufacturers often do this rather than drive every vehicle extensively. They don't test every board. If they did, we'd never have lemons that don't work right out of the box.

I've used an Asus board in my last two builds and had no issues, glad I didn't go with AM5, mine is AM4.
My 2021 G15 has been fantastic, but yeah... after this story, I'm certainly not going back to Asus. Even once they "fix" this, the company has burned a lot of bridges lately. That's going to leave a lasting impact.
I was going to upgrade this coming gen with an ASUS mobo, but not now. F&^% them and their anti-consumer BS. I'll hit up Aorus mobos now.
That’s fucking bad….
Holy crap! Incompetence is one thing, but actively sabotaging products to paint the consumer as the bad guy is a new low.

Seeing ASUS's decline is truly sad.
my first asus board is also still running..... from 1999. P3V4X, slot-1 pentium! ive built easily over 500 systems with asus boards over the years (i do it for a living), with minimal issues. but the way theyre treating people via support lately, ive been looking at other brands for my customers. very sad.
