Bring Your Best Practice to Her Upset

Where the rubber meets the road for a man, and a place I have certainly failed more times than I care to admit, is being the wide expanse of love for a partner’s hurt feelings, anger and fear.
Especially when it has do with me.
Especially when it feels unfair.
Especially when I am tired and don’t want to hear it.
But that is when our practice is needed most.
What men can do is become proactive in taking responsibility for the emotions that need to be expressed.
How can you create a container for these emotions to arise and be expressed in a safe way?
How can you make yourself the wide expanse of love that needs nothing, that loves unconditionally?
A practice that I personally do is to open my chest and heart and feel wide love, wide as the sky, or deep as the ocean, through my body before I sit with my partner.
Then over and over, I’ll keep breathing as the wide expanse of love, all the while reminding myself as I feel the need to interject, correct or interrupt.
Of course, choose your own texture to bring to moment.
But know that in regulating your nervous system and being so wide that you don’t need the moment or her to be any different, is unbelievably soothing.
There will be a time for you to be heard.
But while she is sharing, try your best to feel the part of you that so wide, nothing can hurt.
I can not tell you how many men struggle with this practice. Even those with years of meditation and practice in them.
But it is so freeing, for both of you, when done with consciousness and love.
