I yes, the remarried empress webtoon. I saw an analysis of the women that stole her place. the conclusion is that she was a tragic character that also was very stupid. not evil or bad, which led me to believe that the fandom truly hated her for no reason, they should have been mad at the husband.
I may have seen the same video, and that person was misrepresenting the events of the story. Rashta obtained the status of the second best woman in her empire without much effort, and turned to carrying out misdeeds out of greed and jealousy when she was far removed from a position of needing any charity from anyone
@@samuek607 You aren't wrong. She was always crying and sticking to the husband like glue making Navier look like the bad guy and rarely ever spoke up, not evil but very self sefving and not ingratiating herself to anyone around her except the greedy and the husband. Then Navier leaves and she goes power mad, even dressing and speaking like Navier to emulate her in a desperate attempt to make people like her, definitely evil by that point. People who defend her can often be talkes to but start foaming at the mouth when it's mentioned she was a former slave, thought her child died and was being balckmailed by the father son and her former master. Sounds bad until you realize the lenghts she goes to be free of it, even completely dismissing that same kids father who has been taking care of their child and finally met her without his father meaning they could talk freely. People get really caught up on the former slave and blackmail part, totally missing why people hate her guts so much because of that.
At the end of the day Rashta was a slave. She could give zero consent to the Emperor. The emperor is the real ass and a bad husband. Rashta definitely is not a good person but. After a while, I could not read any further.
@@samuek607I think that a lot of the pro-Rashta sentiments comes from the pushback against the often classist themes that otome isekai and Oi-adjacent genres have. When you're just reading one OI, it's easy to justify hating Rashta because she's objectively a terrible human being. But, when you read a ton of these stories, you tend to see the pattern of materialism and the wealthy abusing their position of power, and it's counted as a good thing because it's the protagonist doing the thing. Why do we love it when the mc slaps the maid? Why is it the person we are made to hate a former slave? Why is the male lead spending the people's taxes on a shop full of dresses the female lead is never going to wear? Why is the mc buying slaves? When we take away the context (because it's a story, an author can always make the context make the action justifiable), why is there a prevalent theme of upper class people "getting one over" the lower class? That's not to say that the genre is rotten to the core. A lot of standout OI stories are stories that either don't have these themes or engage with those themes. And I don't think any of these authors are writing these stories thinking about how rich people are better than everyone else. It's just so baked into the genre that everyone treats it like it's normal. So in essence, Rashta discourse is just a microcosm of the otome isekai discourse as a whole lmao
Hating a character is only good when it is a character ment to be hated. The only character I hate was supposed to be the lovable cute side character that helped the main character in secret. As you said we humans hate those that break our principals and this character broke to of the ones i have in highes regard
Hating characters written to be hated/in the wrong/antagonists is one thing and I agree that can have beneficial consequences. the worst is coming to hate a character that was written to be loved. Protagonists badly written and unjustly excused from every bad action, evil toxic love interests who are romantic just in the eyes the misleaded author (coff coff, Arc) ... I literally saw a poll in which thousands of people were more willing to forgive Omniman than Rachel. Weirdly, I can understand it.
SPOILERS FOR TOWER OF GOD: While I loved the first couple hundred chapters, it quickly devolved into the “endless ascension” with no clear goal in sight. A myriad of new characters gets introduced in every arc at the expense of the development of existing ones. I feel like it is going to be another case of author not willing to end his work and moving the goalpost indefinitely.
I'll be completely honest, while I reread it before making this video, I the amount I enjoy the beginning vs the end is a big difference. I could read the beginning tons of times, but there's a certain arc near the present that was pretty rough (especially with the hiatuses).
Yeah there is still a lot of good stuff in the later arcs but its just buried under alot of aide character stuff while im all for having fully realised side characters alot of time gets dedicated to them........the whole beastmen story while cool had waaaayyyy to much time sunk into it that didnt add as much to greater story and could've been told through sub text and mystery
i think hate is good when it adds to the story but when the story wants you to like a character or when they could have been removed with little to no change its terrible for the story just unwanted annoyance (looking at gabi from aot)
Every high needs a low. It's why stories become bleak just before the climax. The more an author can (intentionally) make you hate a character, the greater the emotional bounce on their defeat. Though, I suppose unintentionally hate-able characters make good video essay material, don't they?
the first character I ever hated was The pink thing from naruto and for better or worse that hatred though subdued still sticks with me. As for the first moment I ever hated anything in a piece of media it was the start of DBZ having a series I loved and spent a big part of my conscious life going through, 5-6 year old me seeing Goku turn into a "Superman Rip Off" and it turning into a Sci-fi all of a sudden broke my brain and a hated it so much, it was the first series I ever dropped even though a picked it back up later and finished up all of Z and GT by 7-8 I still remember the hatred I felt and to this day I prefer OG Dragon ball to DBZ
@@doandadrestarahma5290 I wouldn’t hate the creator, I mean it’s one thing to hate a character but then it’s going into weirdo level stuff hating on the creator just because of a fictional character.
Binah from Monster Strike The Animation after the Lucifer movie quickly became this to me. At first appearing like a noble leader trusted by everyone only to proceed to screw them over, re-animate their formerly dead enemies and use those re-animated foes as puppets to basically beat the protagonists near death so they’d relinquish another important mcguffin that keeps their world intact. All for what? Apparently bringing her sister back was more important than everyone else in the world living. At that point her later “sacrifice” meant absolutely nothing even if it indirectly helped bring back Lucifer’s other friends. Oragon did not redeem Binah, he only gave her an alibi to get off scoff free for everything she did. A complete waste bag of a character.
Depends, there is a series when I initially fell for the audience manipulation from the author to hate a strawman and her associated race, where she was meant to represent the "bad" part of the good guys side. But the more I thought about the series the more the authors double standards shone through, all the situations she was a portrayed as bad in are all the fault of "good" guys stupidity/naivety she was the one burdened with all the hard decisions and the "good" guys live on easy mode. after some time I switched from hating on strawman to hating on her "victims" Gary stu and hitler wannabe. Where gary stu is vice admiral holdo except his tactics are on the level of Zapp brannigan and hitler wanabie became a "sympathetic" villain, decided start an ethno state and eradicate strawman's race because strawman wasn't happy with being sacrificed pointlessly and couldn't carry the uselessness of gary stues group. Despite strawman being a minor character she individually has suffered more than the "oppressed" gary stus race. I could type more but I'm getting worked up thinking about the series.
Nerobasta from the series 7ds, most people haven't seen/forgot that part of the series. A thing I forgot to say was at the end of the series her species gets wimped out in the most middle finger way possible and none of the moralizing characters cared.

I ever disliked the Protagonist of romantasy - and Protagonista shall be likeable.
Another example I would like to add is Arianna from Princess's Jewels, an infamously dogwater poopoo webtoon

Not for her actions. Just bc she is rachel. I agree with my homies.
Please make a video on how you would make a cultivation story from scratch with ideally a main character that never uses pills at all...
Just have them use one to awaken their powers for the first time I agree that having them be in constant use is kinda stupid
