I think you're just witnessing the loud minority, but you also gotta remember that One Piece is actually mainstream nowadays. So the toxicity in the One Piece fandom is going to be more noticeable compared to others.
To be honest, I thought you were going to cricticize Tekking (if anything, he’s one of the best type of One Piece fans), and I was ready to write a heated agruement, but no, all your points are really valid and truly some of the problems I see in the community, some I didn’t realize until now, great video anyway
Same here. I only clicked on the video cause I thought he was going to attack him. I dont watch much of tekking but I do realize he's one of the best of us. I agree with the video too. There's too much toxic mess in a lot of fandoms and one piece being as big as it is and going for as long as it has definitely has a lot of those toxic people.
One thing I personally disagree with is the weird character design. I don't like the "generic" anime design, especially pretty boys, so I'm actually really keen on Oda's goofy goobers.
Okay, there is generic (most anime), there is unique (Jojo, Mob Psycho, Kill La Kill etc.) and then there is One Piece weird ass designs. Thing is, not all of Oda's character designs are bad, alot of them make sense like with Kaido and Big Mom looking like big ugly monsters since they are literally that, or Blackbeard being a fat ugly bastard cause he's a greedy scheming pirate, or Doflamingo reflecting his heavenly status with heavenly drip. However, there comes a time where character designs are too weird for no reason. Just look at Raizo as a recent example. There's no reason why he should have a giant weird shaped head like that. Why did they make him look like that? No one knows, he just be like that Ig.
Garp in the Live Action is weird. I think a lot of fans are unwilling to criticise it because it was Oda's direct decision, so it could be seen as Oda tweaking the story to the way he wishes he had written it originally (this does somewhat help with the otherwise jarring fact that Garp seemingly paid no attention to Luffy until post Enies Lobby). However, as George Lucas could tell you, the original creator's desire to "do things over" isn't always for the best...
I hate it when fans of a certain media treat the material like a holy book 😢 It reminds me of my past self At the end, it will only lead to a heartbreaking disappointment & disillusion or destructive denial. In addition to what Ken-Chan pointed out, being a healthy fan is to support what you love while pushing that media to evolve by pointing out its flaws. You deserve better, We deserve better!

Where is the line crossed into disrespect, where it is no longer fair for the creator, if fans are just voicing subjective opinions rather than grounded, objective criticisms?
@@peltycrikts6990 easy example aot Vs pretty much any hard stablish great manga like fma, monster, code geas, berserk to name a few. Aot fans elevate it to a high degree that it's a masterpiece compared to the other great mangas.

There is no unanimous truth about any opinion. I could love an Anime for a lot of things even if quarter of it contains long shots of still images, the legendary Berserk is no exception to this. I truly admire your search of knowledge & tangible truth, but it is no secret that the creators are not celestials. They conduct polls and read the reviews.
I stopped watching the anime in Dressrosa. It's 118 Episodes according to google. That's nearly two complete watch-throughs of Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Avatar the Last Airbender, or Hunter x Hunter's Chimera Ant Arc. As an arc it's pretty mediocre to begin with by One Piece standards, but when you add Toei animation stretching out every goddamned thing for ten episodes longer than it needs to be... well, nah, I'm done with it.

@@JonJonFan0237 the pronoun yamato uses in the original japanese is "boku" which is traditionally masculine and in one piece has only ever been used for male characters, saying its a translation mistake is goofy as hell.
One thing I hate about some one price fans is that a lot of them think Oda has it all planned out and thought of the story since the very start but that’s just not true and he comes up with it along the way.
That's a case of exaggeration. Oda clearly has planned some things ahead of time, and he's good at foreshadowing. People exaggerate this into him being an infallible writing god and forget that he's human.
oda probably just has some crazy ideas and he writes them on the history but without explanation. Then on the future if he thinks this feature is worth expanding he introduces it again but with a proper explanation and system, giving this sense of foreshadowing. I just can't believe that there is people who think luffy's dance with the animals in skypiea is a foreshadowing to gear 5, come on guys, maybe when making gear 5 oda remembered that panel but clearly when he made the panel he probably didn't even think about making gear 2, imagine gear 5.
I'm a One Piece fan, but I can't stand those guys. I personally can't understand the appeal of this mindset, especially since Oda has repeatedly gone to great lengths to emphasise that combat ability isn't everything. As early as Arlong Park you have Luffy explicitly saying that he absolutely needs his crew, and I can't even count the number of times Luffy would've been cooked without a teammate to bail him out (just one random example from the top of my head; without Usopp, Luffy would've been turned into a toy in Dressrosa.
Whether One Piece, as a story, is too long or not is a question of perspective, and how you approach entertainment media and art. It's something I have been increasingly thinking about over the last decade, not just regarding One Piece but other fictional media as well. Personally, I think the story of One Piece is too short, but I suppose that's easy to say for someone who has been a weekly reader since 2005. I can absolutely understand how it can feel daunting if you are just starting it now, and you want to catch up asap to be a part of "the community". To be honest, any story would suffer at least a little bit if you have that kind of pressure for time. If we are talking the anime, I understand this even more, since it's harder to get through that faster without missing more. The benefit of reading the Manga is that you control much more of the overall pacing. The animation is a bit of a mixed bag, I have honestly gotten a newfound appreciation for the anime since watching the Anime Wins series about it. It's intentionally positive, so it's not intending to be a balanced review or anything, but it's nice to be able to notice and appreciate things you might not have thought about before when it comes to the animation. I absolutely love Oda's character designs, everything else in this story is over the top, so why shouldn't there also be insane looking characters? Oda just has a wacky imagination and doesn't seem to hold himself back whenever a "wouldn't this be fun/cool" thought enters his mind. I may not personally think every design is good, but I will still love that Oda made them the way he wanted. The live action was inoffensive to me, but there's a lot to criticize there. Since they seemed to go into it with a lot of heart and passion, that makes it easier to just see it as something completely separate. The inclusion of Garp, and the removal of the fact that the villagers and Nojiko knew what Nami was going through are some of the biggest issues with it IMO. I think comparisons can be pretty fun and even helpful, but they have to be done on the right grounds. Fundamentally different stories will always be different and have different intentions and goals. But if your focus is mainly subjective, it can be fascinating to compare different stories. I just think too many people forget the subjective part. I was almost pissed at the Tekking clickbait, but it worked, and the guy deserves all the recognition he can get. Overall respect for this video man, you made your case really well and respectfully.
I've said it for years. The biggest reason I've never tried to get into One Piece is the fans. For some reason, One Piece can't just be a great series. It HAS to be better than your favorite series, and the fans NEED to tell you that constantly. I hate it.

@@samuek607 I've been watching one piece almost quite literally my entire life, I can say that it's not the best in the world and I'm sure because others might have grown up with it, they probably get blinded by something they grew up with.
Tekking101 really is the best one piece TH-camr. But me personally when it comes to the one piece community I've only had good interactions. And I've come to realize that most big anime communities are bad in their own way.
1. Too Long/ Bad Pacing: Totally Agree on that part, Though I tolerate this problem more than most 2. Bad Animation: I disagree with the "Gets good in Wano" Argument. Frankly I enjoyed One Piece's art and animation throughout the series, with rare exceptions. One Piece has NEVER been up to my artistic preferences but I decided to enjoy it for what it is. 3. Weird character designs: You make good points, but I just embrace the chaos of Oda's imagination that I don't criticize them like I would if they were in other stories. 4. Completely agree with your Garp LA Criticism 5. Comparing OP to other Anime: Agreed, Although I am guilty of doing it sometimes I really am sick of the comparison game, (Only exception is when Naruto/Bore-uto fans criticize Black Clover , that pisses me off more than any criticism aimed at One Piece) 6. I personaly enjoy his winded out and unhinged rambling in-between points, it is just my cup of chaos comparable to One Piece itself. Love all the bits of those long vids, yum yum :P Either way, good video criticizing the fans, yuh :D
The bad animation critique is just annoying. One Piece has always had great animation for it's budget and age. The people who judge older episodes for their animation have only seen newer anime and are not mature enough to evaluate the reason behind the animation quality.

I thought the actor was well cast and did his role great, just had a problem with the writing. Really didn't think he should have been given the antagonist role. Would have been way more interesting with a character closer to Luffy's league that we could actually feel threatened by.

Yeah i don't get how some people have this notion that one piece is this infallible master piece that has no flaws. I like one piece ,but honestly some of the comedy in one piece is so overplayed sometimes. The biggest example of this is Sanji being a perv. God i hate how obnoxious that "joke" gets. One minute he is cool af the next he cannot string together coherent sentence and is being borderline sex pest. Worst yet is that he wasn't like that in the beginning. At start he used to be this gentlemanly guy who just couldn't stop chasing women, but then he outright devolved. He used to be my favorite character, but over time he just grew more and more annoying.
To be fair, other anime communities are similar. I think. But I agree, One Piece isn't a master piece but it's great imo. Also I strongly agree with you. I think that's just a problem of humor being lacking in post time skip. It was different before, but now him being a perv is the safe manner of humor for Sanji now, and they harp on it constantly. I'm going to strongly disagree with you. What you are stating is the True Scotsman Fallacy. If people don't like G5, let them. It doesn't mean they aren't true fans of One Piece. I think that is the mindset OP is talking about that is toxic. I will agree that the Bonney hate is not reasonable though. But I think there is merit to disliking G5. If you like it, that's fine. Personally, the most annoying thing that I've seen many from our fanbase do is "Those who don't like One Piece just haven't seen it", someone else says I've seen all of it they reply with "If you don't like it why did you see it".
For me one of the things I most hate in one piece despite loving the series is oda's choices involving... women. Like, sure, there was some ammount of sexualization in pre-timeskip, but boy oh boy, post-timeskip can't be ignored anymore. Why is oda so fascinated into making busty women, like, if a women is relevant to the history she will either be a monstrocity or will be drawn like a hourglass, and the anime just makes it worse, with close-ups suspiciously specifics, like I can't even watch it without fear of my parents walking in. And I am not gonna comment about bonney, that's just straigth messed up. And what makes all this worse is that people defend it like it's normal.

anime used to be this close knit circle for weebs to gather around, talk, and bash heads with each other. it was fun, exciting, even empowering. but somewhere in the time line something went wrong. very wrong. (I promise I have a point with this. dont TLDR me) anime used to be this wonderful experience of discovering a new thing, of looking for someone who shares your passion for a thing close to your heart, of getting to know a new wonderous world and getting emarsed into it for hours. weeb posts would go something like "if you like [attribute] [attribute] give [title] a try. its a [genre][genre] in [setting] about [plot][plot]" but in this dark landscape of modern anime it goes like this "have you seen the latest episode of [title]". you see how that changed there? it changed from "go discover" to "keep up". what happened? some time in the past decade it was decided that weebs cant be weebs anymore, they have to become like normies. (by whom you might ask? well, by normies of course, who else?) what I mean is, classic weeb conversations like "this show is a must watch and here's why" seemingly arent welcome anymore. speaking negatively about ANYHTING is not ok anymore. objectivity is out the window. anime is done// weebs, are done. my point with all of this is, I apprisiate someone finally putting on his big boy pants and voicing his actual opinion. but as a one piece super fan I felt the need to respond to your points point #1: I don't deny that one piece has some dogshit arcs and the pacing is complete garbage. but I also would like to say that it being a connected release is what makes it better than the half processed shit that comes out today. long format release is just better for long stories. so stands to reason that cutting one piece into seasons would break the flow of the story. about the animation, who cares if its bad? demon slayers animation is good, does that make he show any better? same thing here. good animation is a bonus, the story is whats important. on the dressrossa thing, just false. dressrossa a massive set up arc for many plot points. it does the setting up really well while giving you one of the best villains even by one piece standards. and if you pay attention, it happened in the new world part of the story which means all the straw hats have been developed for the most part. they aren't the ones in need of further development, but we need new characters to get melded into the story for the next big thing. The title is 100% representative of the content of the video, the thumbnail depicts the individual I use as a main reference for ideal behaviour, and the comment was made publicly on a video that's still up. What did I do wrong? Do people usually black out the names of commentors? I put them up in my videos all the time and it's the first I've ever heard of that😭

I agree about Fishman Island. I actually really resonated with the theme of inherited generational hatred. Didn't like the Hody backstory that the anime made up, though, it actively ruined the point of Hody (which is that he never suffered personally at human hands and is purely the product of his environment).
Ive loved One Piece for about 20 years or so since i was around 14, and the fanbase still not understanding Fishman Island, or just continuing the "Minority Hunter" meme makes me never want to discuss a thing about the series with them.
My unpopular opinions: Marineford is trash, it look's like dogs fighting behind some bars, they only bark(and kill cannon fodder). Foreshadowing doesn't make the story better, sometimes it does nothing, and sometimes it kills the surprise. I am not interested in all those sad backstories for characters that will appear maybe one more episode in the future.

I agree with almost everything u said, many OnePiece fans can't have a civil conversation about the nuance of the story, but a super small critique. you had all of the new worlds slide show animation to choose from and u chose to pull that sabody scene up as an example of bad animation. That animation style is called kagenashi and it sacrifices shading SPECIFICALLY for more fluid movement. What u probably don't like about it is the art style which is not an animation problem.
Seasonal = better working conditions Yeah I'm sure all mappa animators agree. Yes seasonal releases have advantages pacing and ... But better working conditions are not a part of it that depends on management

Character design is valid, some characters were just designed to be goofy. You showed clips of vanderdecken, and his villain origin story is that he wanted to marry a 6 year old but wasn’t allowed to.
Ngl when people were saying gear 5 was just as iconic as ssj and more iconic then hollow mask, vasto lorde, and demon fox coat/ 9 tails (1 tailed form) was about to have me crashing out. Saw some of One Piece when I was a kid but didn't really get into it until last year. It's got a great overall story but man the amount of filler is crazy.
I "watch" OP in clips/small bursts/youtube titles....it keeps the story alive for me but I don't have to feel like my time is being wasted watching one sleep.
I think it's kinda dumb to say that Oda "needed to lose a bet to show/create some of this designs" when he has been doin it for almost 3 decades and some of the problems of One Piece happen because of the way he writtes his manga. Egghead has the 6 satellites, but just 2 of them would have been enought. Oda LOVES to design characters, and I love almost all of his designs, but he sometimes creates characters than end up hurting a little bit the story. One of the satellites had an awesome moment in the recent 1120 chapter and that moment would have been 3 times better if, instead of having 6 satellites, we only had 2 and she was the one that did the majority of the important stuff and interactions in Egghead, most of them feel like useless characters OMG, I hate SO much the characters that they changed in the LA, specially Garp. He's literally another completely different person, they destroyed one of the best side characters in the original story.

I don't see it as an issue overall, but I CAN see it as a barrier to entry for newer watchers. I just think that's the downside of running for so long. Plus, since the anime wasn't seasonal, we were gifted with the wonderful G8 arc (filler, but amazing). I will say though, at this point, I'm fine with switching to seasonal. I feel like, back then in pre-time skip, I wouldn't go for it. But now... I don't mind it. If you are sitting through 100 episodes + to watch the show for animation... I feel like that's not what you should be watching the anime for. I personally prefer the old look. It doesn't invalidate your point that the animation may not be good. But I don't think you need to feel like you are torturing yourself if you aren't already enjoying the anime. I also like the unique and crazy character designs. We can tell that Oda is having fun with One Piece from all these. I'd rather not just have generic designs. I think there could be more... non-crazy designs if Oda tried and still look cool but... I just think at this point One Piece isn't that type of Anime. These points... feel more like preference here. So if you want me to drop off of the face of the earth for this... so be it? Oh boy, so I admit, I kind of got clickbaited by the tekking thumb and I listened to the first part, skipped to the tekking part (thanks btw for timestamps, Ill sub just for that.) But yeah, I wont finish. Sorry, I think I can maybe get the vibe. I want to maybe be the contrarian here. So, I am writing my own adventure story. And yeah, it is fucking hard. Worldbuilding is a hard skill. There is a reason why usually critiques of worldbuilding often boil down to character and/or aesthetic flaws. For example, I don’t think I have to argue why the Lord of the Rings has good worldbuilding. To me, the word means ‘creating an imagined world with a unique history complete with complex socio-political dynamics’. Yeah, it is a bit heady and kind of conditional. But it does separate I think worlds in more objective analysis over say, subjective analysis. When some people critique one piece, I usually get the ‘It is too long!’ argument and I personally don’t mind. For me, more is more. I like long running things. I read too, so I don’t mind sitting for hours just to immerse myself. I admit, I am definitely an edge case. I think that is valid, and I just move on. I don’t think however that one piece’s flaws, so to speak are really ‘flaws’. If art has objective elements, and can have subjective implications or analysis, then really flaws are man made. They are biased. And that is okay. I know some who are biased to long running things because of cultural presence. I think that is fair, but I want specifics other then ‘I just didn’t like it’. At least a modicum of introspection ought to be used. Really, the only universal, semi objective flaw the franchise has is the fanbase. Now, I admit, I don’t like fanbases as a primary argument on why you shouldn’t get into something. I think if I believed that, I would have also fallen victim to insular anti-fandoms which propagate their own as a sort of, semi loose and organized movement to ‘tear down’ the piece of art ‘for its flaws’. Just ignore fans and the noise if you want, but what is harder to defend is how toxic some actual fans can be. Some will take a critique of their favorite manga as if you shot them in the face. And of course, the psychology and biology backs this up. If you come off too strong in your critique, the fan will probably just double down and ignore all ‘critiques’ be they objective and/or subjective. They will feel literal physical and emotional pain. And these kinds of people tend to pathologize their fandom to their identity being tied to One Piece. Or anything really. I would probably sum this up as the parasocial effect of fiction on fan psychology. The is also similar fandom and/or personal reactions in adjacent communities that make such biases even stronger, such as the power scaling community (aka, My character can beat up your character.) Sorry, I know this is alot. A bit rambly. My thesis would essentially be: “One piece personally to me is perfect, but the taste is dependent on your desire to enjoy long and subtle details of the creative evolutionary process….and your ability to stomach the next Zoro vs Sanji debate for the 69th time.” You cant please everyone with art, but the least you can do is advocate that your own art takes inspiration like other pieces of art. Oda himself says his inspirations were from both the East and West, so it is not unusual to say, as unique the world can be that “Whole Cake Island is Disney and Dressrosa is Spain.” Guys, Don Quixote Doflamingo is literally a reference to Don Quixote, the spanish book! I've been an on and off fan for the best part of a decade now, and here are some of my critiques to the manga I have as a fan (I'm not a heavy anime watcher, but I do read the manga, so the pacing isn't something that bothers me much.) 1 - One piece has a repetitive structure for each arc. It's good to have a consistency in the story telling, but most long arcs (especially the battle focused ones) have the exact same plot beats. It gets old after a while. 2 - Post time-skip doesn't hit the same heights pre-time skip did. I missed when characters felt like they were dealing with really high stakes. The crew seems to not be facing insuremountable challenges for most of the post time-skip. Bar some moments during Whole cake and the Onigashima raid, and even so, just a few characters were seen struggling. During pre-time skip, every island they reached was a challenge, and ever since the time-skip happened, I stopped worring for their lives. I want to feel that tension again. 3 - Most of the main characters have little character building moments after the arc they are introduced/explored. Relationship crisis inside the main group is one of the best ways to engage with a plot and have the characters grow/develop. Last time we had that, it was Whole cake island, when Sanji had further development. I wish the characters got better moments. 4 - Some of the jokes are so crass and unfunny. I have a hard time indicating One Piece for those who are new to anime, even if I recommend One Pace. That's cuz some of the jokes are just not fun at all, and it takes a level of being used to japanese anime type of humor. The pervert gag is one of the most annoying shit in the entire anime/manga culture. 5 - The sexualization of female characters is pretty crass as well. I do enjoy their writting, but damn... There's no reason for them to be drawn with that type of body shape. The "same face" issue is also a problem ( not only for the pretty women characters, but also for the "handsome men" type of characters.) 6 - Some characters are annoying, and some arcs are a pain to read through, especially if the villains/plots/dialogues aren't interesting enough. First time reading it, I had to force myself to read Skypeia in it's entirety. It was the first time while reading it, that I though the plot got boring and the battles made me want to sleep. 7 - The fights are really uninteresting compared to all the rest. Most battle shonens have intricate fight mechanics, that get more complex or interesting the more the characters master a technique. That's pretty much the focus of battle shonen manga, but One Piece doesn't offer interesting battle mechanics at all. Most fights are pretty much brute force meet some level of strategy depending of the technique/devil fruit ability involved. There's little to think or acompany a character coming up with different/unique strategies during a fight. Luffy pretty much only have to use strategy and evolve during fights, if his brute force/ speed / haki isn't enough. And even so, he can get a sudden power up to help him defeat the bad guy, no further thinking involved. It gets boring. I prefer reading battles from other straw hat members who have to use their brains to achieve something, but even those battles are rare to see nowadays. For a battle shonen, the fight aren't really One piece's strongest points. Now I need to critique the fanbase as well, cuz the fan behavior makes accompaning the release an "every week struggle". 1 - Fans have terrible etiquete when the subject is respecting non-fan opinions or keeping discussions spoiler free. It's already difficult to convince someone to get into One Piece thanks to the sheer number of chapters/episodes. But it doesn't help that the fans behave like annoying brats to everyone else. Please One Piece fans, let people make their choices and stop shitting on other people''s personal taste. Im a one piece fan, but I don't think One Piece is the best manga ( especially shonen manga ) ever. Respect people's opinion, danmit. 2 - The fanfic / fanart and cosplay scene is pretty tame and polite. However, sometimes the powerscaler shitheads who aren't interested in plot or characters, and only care about battles, act pretty toxic and even homophobic towards the (very tame and chill) transformative work content creators for no reason. I'd understand the hatred from "dudebros" if the fanfic writters/fanartists were the ones who were toxic/overzealous/elitists of the community. But that's not the case here. There's no reason for powerscallers to be assholes to fanfic writters. Let people ship Zoro/Sanji in peace, geez... 3. Powerscallers are some of the worst people in the fandom. It doesn't matter that the super powered dude got beaten in that clutch moment, stop trying to come up with convoluted reasons for that. Stop going "agenda-piece" this, or "the character shouldn't have this bounty cuz they are weaker than this other character with smaller bounty" etc. One piece is not focused on powersystems or the battles themselves. One piece is not Dragon ball. Who wins and who loses depends solely on plot beats and story arcs. It has nothing to do with their battle capabilities. The bounty system has nothing to do with the character'a actual strenght in battle, and all to do with their notoriety. Stop trying to analyse everything in One piece as if it follows the same logic as Dragon ball. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if one of the last fights in the story is a "davvy back fight". Not even Oda cares about powerscalling, and jokes about questions of the like in the questionaire sections all the time. I have no idea why part of the fandom keep on doing that. 4. The fandom is full of mysoginistic, transphobic, homophobic, racist people who pretty much believes in the opposite of what One piece teaches in it's many political messages. One piece is a very political manga, that explore a litany of heavy topics, while mantaining a strong position on the importance of history, the struggle that is to fight for utmost freedom, and how oppression from the powerful/rich/elite, should be destroyed by those who seek that freedom. Luffy is a freedom fighter. A liberator who knows that some oppressions need to be dealt with using violence. He is not a diplomat who believes a broken system can be fixed from inside out by good people. He believes in breaking bad systems. A lot of the fanbase absolutely ignores any and all of the political messages in One piece, especially the anarchical/leftist/anti-colonialism/anti-fascist/anti-imperialism/pro-science and history side of it all. And those political instances appears in most of the plot related points. I get it that a lot of the people who read/watch it are young/ political illiterates/ too imature to get the message, but it is frustrating to deal with fans who are absolute blind to those messages, even when they are rubbed on the reader's face. The strawhats would, of course, be pro-palestine and would be labelled as terrorists. If one think otherwise, they do not understand One Piece's political message. 5. Some story choices are there for a reason, and most times a choice is widely disliked, it's because the readers have poor reading capabilities and are really bad at understanding themes/comprehending Oda's writting style. Bonney becoming just like Nika was a great choice plot wise, because it fits her story arc perfectly! When Luffy's gear 5 was introduced, a lot of people hated it because it wasn't a "badass" transformation spawn from vengefulness or hatred like it could be in some other anime/manga. It's one piece! It's Luffy! He wins by bringing hope, being a liberator. He's the smiling warrior of liberation. Of course this transformation fits him. Sanji and Usopp were going though difficult personal problems, and Luffy fumbled Usopp because he lacked maturity as a captain. He didn't fumble Sanji, cuz in WCI, Luffy is more mature. None of those characters betrayed Luffy, they did their choices thanks to personal problems. Stop misinterpreting Oda's intentions as an author. He's crystal clear with his intentions all the time, and a lot of readers lack the minimal brain capacity to understand even that. Also, Garp inclusion was great in the adaptation, because the format NEEDS a pursuer/series long antagonist. Garp was a great choice plot wise. It's an adaptation to another format, and east blue is too episodic for that format. Changes needed to be made because of it. Who cares about "nerfing". Power scalling isn't important for one piece. Anyways, I'm done yapping. I prefer keeping myself involved with fanfic writting only, and I only discuss one piece with some of the lgbt fans who understand the political message and doesn't care about power scalling. At least this side of the fanbase knows how to critique without wasting time with unimportant bullshit.
I 100% agree on the fights argument. I was just thinking about it these days and came to the conclusion, luffy has mostly never won a fair fight. On east blue luffy was prominently stronger than most of his enemies and would mostly just gomu gomu no bazooka them, on little garden luffy just straigth up discovered who was the real mr. 3 and people insist in saying that was a observation haki foreshadowing, like if oda had even thougth about that yet. On drum luffy struggled more to climb to the castle than to defeat wapol. On Alabasta he went straigth to a fight against a logia user on a place full of the substance he is made of, and won anyways because duh, water, sand, yeah. Then on skypiea he went against another logia user, but no worries duh, rubber, electricity, yeah, but ooh, he has spiky weapon, no problem luffy just dodged, oooh but he is giant and fully made of eletricity, no problem, big gold ball kill him. On water 7 luffy went against with no doubts his weakest crew member that still managed to cause some pretty big damage on him, then on enies lobby the funny moments start, can't kill enemy because too fast? No problem just become fast too with gear 2. Attacks aren't potent as the enemy's? No problem, just make them big with gear 3. Then with the help of plot luffy manages to bullshit his way to defeat lucci. Then on thriller bark, luffys consumes other people's shadows to become... edgy.. luffy? sure he won anyways. But oooh big guy with big power appeared, luffy's gonna die, but no problem goat zoro is there to "nothing happened" their way out of the situation and recover just fine. On sabaody luffy had no big fight and most of his enemies were just extremely more powerful than him. Amazon lily had no fight. Luffy is defeated by magellan on impel down but no problem ivankov can save him at the little cost of some life spam, like if gear 2 already didn't fuck with luffy's health. Then marineford he basically just gets tossed around, frees ace, ace dies, he cries, jimbe wakes him up to reality and he goes training. Then 2 years later he destroys hody jones because "he is stroker now", on punk hazard he destroys caezar clown cuz "he is stronker now", on dressrosa the funny shit returns so now we are going up to gear 4, big luffy, attacks big and powerful, destroys doflamingo. On Whole Cake he insist in doing funny things, can't kill biscuit guy? Big gear 4, can't kill mochi guy? faster gear 4 (defies laws of physics btw). Then on Wano, BAM, luffy gets smashed by kaido, but eh no problem he returns... just to be SMASHED by kaido again, and just to put a cherry on top of the cake, now his fruit out of nowhere is a Mythical Super Special God Type Fruit Model: Funny Man, so he can do funny shit and have a explanation to why he kills the enemy easier. Egghead hasn't ended yet so idk, you can consider him vs lucci a big fight but luffy was just doing funny moments again with his recently discovered funny fruit.
@@MatterOrNot Thats why attempting to explain every battle through a "power scalling" or "logical" reason, is a waste of time. Every win and loss in One piece is everything to do with plot, and little to do with logistics, because the fights are never the main focus of the series. I particularly love fights in manga where the weaker character needs to use their brain/strategy in order to win. This rarely happens in One piece, making the battles, at least to me as a reader, not as interesting as the plot/world building/characters. Thats why its so annoying that the fanbase focus so much on powerscalling. Its a useless way of analyzing one piece. Oda makes it clear time and time again. One piece is not a typical "battle shonen". Its more like an "adventure shonen", a classification for itself. None of the typical fighting system from other shonen fits the story here, and thats what makes One piece so unique.
Okay, read through everything, and you're right on most fronts, I've brought up many of those topics in previous videos/plan to bring some up in other videos, and criticizing so many aspects of the story/fanbase that negatively impact your experience is 100% valid. I'll admit that I usually ignore the political issues in One Piece (or any other story) because politics are divisive, and I'm (usually) just trying to entertain people, but your observations from Oda's narrative choices are accurate, and he has made his stances known in ways many people refuse to recognize. The main point I really disagree with you on is the Garp thing. While I don't think powerscaling should be obsessed over to the degree of being able to accurately rank every single combatant in the story, I do think it should be broadly uniform. The problem I had with Garp's inclusion wasn't that it was different from the original story or that a Marine sub-plot was added, my problem was that Garp specifically was a bad choice. As a Vice Admiral, he's meant to be a figure completely outside of Luffy's weight class. He holds a terrifying rank that Luffy should stand no chance of being able to oppose. In the OPLA, however, he's shown to struggle in his pursuit of an upstart pirate. What should be a powerful looming presence fails at his role because the entire audience knows he has no genuine intentions of bringing Luffy to justice. An antagonist we do not believe is actually trying to antagonize the cast is as good as no antagonist at all, and if we *were* meant to somehow believe that Garp was putting his best foot forward in his pursuit, it ruins the tension going forward as the audience begins to completely underestimate the capabilities of a Vice Admiral. For what Garp's inclusion was meant to achieve, a character like Smoker would have been a much more realistic threat, and wouldn't have had the same negative narrative consequences of Garp. Smoker would even have led more seamlessly into the Loguetown arc, and made for even greater drama during the East Blue's final stop.

Oda is in fact not Goda and just a human (after all) and therefore should not be held on unreasonably high standard which when not lived up to sometimes people are doing their absolute best to ignore it. Always coping "Goda cannot make mistakes" and sure it might be one the meticulously crafted stories ever put to paper, still it is not perfect. Also does not help when people who cannot take criticism for their favorite piece of media end up going out their way to tell everyone who likes literally any other anime/manga that one piece is the best and we got a effed situation. Tbh old one piece isnt necessarily bad, its just lack of animations, like literally having just a drawing but camera moves from one side to another, if not just standing still, and sadly this issue still exists in modern one piece where it will just a single drawing with little to no movement going on for 10+ second, and if there is movent its a high possiblity of it being the same 5 seconds of animations streched out. And for me personally wano part in the anime was so fuckin confusing, like i watched multiple episodes in a row but it just felt i was watching the same episode for good 2-5 episodes (im talking about the raid part). All and all the anime can be just an infuriating experience.
Yep, only thing I find weird is fans making their favorite Mangas author/ artist a God and how they're some perfect entity. I appreciate all authors from the Mangas and shows I enjoy but most of them are strange from a westerners stand point in terms of morals and values irl.

yeah the pacing def ruins the show for all arcs and i recently changed over to reading the manga and it is more enjoyable than watching a cool episode and then the next one is just like watching paint dry (unless your saying that the animation is bad cuz then ima raise my pitch fork)
I think 'bad' is a stretch. If we judged it on an objective scale without comparing it to the manga, I still think it would be AT WORST a 6/10 as a whole, (which is just mid).
I agree with most of it, but I really never hear the "it's too long" argument besides reason why people don't wanna watch it. Ofcourse then you can reccomend One Pace, the goal is to reach new fans obviously. Pacing is garbage, Toei doesn't really handle it. But. I even hear "too long" if you reccomend manga. Idk if it's today's brain damage, but nobody is asking people to binge whole series in one go.

Same here. I only clicked on the video cause I thought he was going to attack him. I dont watch much of tekking but I do realize he's one of the best of us. I agree with the video too. There's too much toxic mess in a lot of fandoms and one piece being as big as it is and going for as long as it has definitely has a lot of those toxic people.
One thing I personally disagree with is the weird character design. I don't like the "generic" anime design, especially pretty boys, so I'm actually really keen on Oda's goofy goobers.

Okay, there is generic (most anime), there is unique (Jojo, Mob Psycho, Kill La Kill etc.) and then there is One Piece weird ass designs.
Thing is, not all of Oda's character designs are bad, alot of them make sense like with Kaido and Big Mom looking like big ugly monsters since they are literally that, or Blackbeard being a fat ugly bastard cause he's a greedy scheming pirate, or Doflamingo reflecting his heavenly status with heavenly drip.
However, there comes a time where character designs are too weird for no reason. Just look at Raizo as a recent example. There's no reason why he should have a giant weird shaped head like that. Why did they make him look like that? No one knows, he just be like that Ig.

Garp in the Live Action is weird. I think a lot of fans are unwilling to criticise it because it was Oda's direct decision, so it could be seen as Oda tweaking the story to the way he wishes he had written it originally (this does somewhat help with the otherwise jarring fact that Garp seemingly paid no attention to Luffy until post Enies Lobby). However, as George Lucas could tell you, the original creator's desire to "do things over" isn't always for the best...
Garp was the part the showrunners had to fight to convince Oda to allow though (from what I heard once, I don't have the source).

I stopped watching the anime in Dressrosa. It's 118 Episodes according to google. That's nearly two complete watch-throughs of Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Avatar the Last Airbender, or Hunter x Hunter's Chimera Ant Arc. As an arc it's pretty mediocre to begin with by One Piece standards, but when you add Toei animation stretching out every goddamned thing for ten episodes longer than it needs to be... well, nah, I'm done with it.
More episodes than the manga had chapters. Absolutely ridiculous.

One thing I hate about some one price fans is that a lot of them think Oda has it all planned out and thought of the story since the very start but that’s just not true and he comes up with it along the way.
That's a case of exaggeration. Oda clearly has planned some things ahead of time, and he's good at foreshadowing. People exaggerate this into him being an infallible writing god and forget that he's human.
oda probably just has some crazy ideas and he writes them on the history but without explanation. Then on the future if he thinks this feature is worth expanding he introduces it again but with a proper explanation and system, giving this sense of foreshadowing. I just can't believe that there is people who think luffy's dance with the animals in skypiea is a foreshadowing to gear 5, come on guys, maybe when making gear 5 oda remembered that panel but clearly when he made the panel he probably didn't even think about making gear 2, imagine gear 5.
Oda for sure had to come up with stuff to keep the story going but nobody and I mean nobody can make it all fit within his overall plan like Oda.

I'm a One Piece fan, but I can't stand those guys. I personally can't understand the appeal of this mindset, especially since Oda has repeatedly gone to great lengths to emphasise that combat ability isn't everything. As early as Arlong Park you have Luffy explicitly saying that he absolutely needs his crew, and I can't even count the number of times Luffy would've been cooked without a teammate to bail him out (just one random example from the top of my head; without Usopp, Luffy would've been turned into a toy in Dressrosa.

Whether One Piece, as a story, is too long or not is a question of perspective, and how you approach entertainment media and art. It's something I have been increasingly thinking about over the last decade, not just regarding One Piece but other fictional media as well. Personally, I think the story of One Piece is too short, but I suppose that's easy to say for someone who has been a weekly reader since 2005.
I can absolutely understand how it can feel daunting if you are just starting it now, and you want to catch up asap to be a part of "the community". To be honest, any story would suffer at least a little bit if you have that kind of pressure for time. If we are talking the anime, I understand this even more, since it's harder to get through that faster without missing more. The benefit of reading the Manga is that you control much more of the overall pacing.
The animation is a bit of a mixed bag, I have honestly gotten a newfound appreciation for the anime since watching the Anime Wins series about it. It's intentionally positive, so it's not intending to be a balanced review or anything, but it's nice to be able to notice and appreciate things you might not have thought about before when it comes to the animation.
I absolutely love Oda's character designs, everything else in this story is over the top, so why shouldn't there also be insane looking characters? Oda just has a wacky imagination and doesn't seem to hold himself back whenever a "wouldn't this be fun/cool" thought enters his mind. I may not personally think every design is good, but I will still love that Oda made them the way he wanted.
The live action was inoffensive to me, but there's a lot to criticize there. Since they seemed to go into it with a lot of heart and passion, that makes it easier to just see it as something completely separate. The inclusion of Garp, and the removal of the fact that the villagers and Nojiko knew what Nami was going through are some of the biggest issues with it IMO.
I think comparisons can be pretty fun and even helpful, but they have to be done on the right grounds. Fundamentally different stories will always be different and have different intentions and goals. But if your focus is mainly subjective, it can be fascinating to compare different stories. I just think too many people forget the subjective part.
I was almost pissed at the Tekking clickbait, but it worked, and the guy deserves all the recognition he can get.

I've said it for years. The biggest reason I've never tried to get into One Piece is the fans. For some reason, One Piece can't just be a great series. It HAS to be better than your favorite series, and the fans NEED to tell you that constantly. I hate it.

2. Bad Animation: I disagree with the "Gets good in Wano" Argument. Frankly I enjoyed One Piece's art and animation throughout the series, with rare exceptions. One Piece has NEVER been up to my artistic preferences but I decided to enjoy it for what it is.
3. Weird character designs: You make good points, but I just embrace the chaos of Oda's imagination that I don't criticize them like I would if they were in other stories.

The bad animation critique is just annoying. One Piece has always had great animation for it's budget and age. The people who judge older episodes for their animation have only seen newer anime and are not mature enough to evaluate the reason behind the animation quality.

Yeah i don't get how some people have this notion that one piece is this infallible master piece that has no flaws. I like one piece ,but honestly some of the comedy in one piece is so overplayed sometimes. The biggest example of this is Sanji being a perv. God i hate how obnoxious that "joke" gets. One minute he is cool af the next he cannot string together coherent sentence and is being borderline sex pest. Worst yet is that he wasn't like that in the beginning. At start he used to be this gentlemanly guy who just couldn't stop chasing women, but then he outright devolved. He used to be my favorite character, but over time he just grew more and more annoying.
To be fair, other anime communities are similar. I think. But I agree, One Piece isn't a master piece but it's great imo.

For me one of the things I most hate in one piece despite loving the series is oda's choices involving... women. Like, sure, there was some ammount of sexualization in pre-timeskip, but boy oh boy, post-timeskip can't be ignored anymore. Why is oda so fascinated into making busty women, like, if a women is relevant to the history she will either be a monstrocity or will be drawn like a hourglass, and the anime just makes it worse, with close-ups suspiciously specifics, like I can't even watch it without fear of my parents walking in. And I am not gonna comment about bonney, that's just straigth messed up. And what makes all this worse is that people defend it like it's normal.

some time in the past decade it was decided that weebs cant be weebs anymore, they have to become like normies. point #1: I don't deny that one piece has some dogshit arcs and the pacing is complete garbage. but I also would like to say that it being a connected release is what makes it better than the half processed shit that comes out today. long format release is just better for long stories. so stands to reason that cutting one piece into seasons would break the flow of the story. about the animation, who cares if its bad? demon slayers animation is good, does that make he show any better? same thing here. good animation is a bonus, the story is whats important. on the dressrossa thing, just false. dressrossa a massive set up arc for many plot points. it does the setting up really well while giving you one of the best villains even by one piece standards. and if you pay attention, it happened in the new world part of the story which means all the straw hats have been developed for the most part. they aren't the ones in need of further development, but we need new characters to get melded into the story for the next big thing. (which is exactly what happens)

The title is 100% representative of the content of the video, the thumbnail depicts the individual I use as a main reference for ideal behaviour, and the comment was made publicly on a video that's still up. The thing is... One Piece barely has filler. Filler is anything that doesn't appear in the manga. I mean the pacing is trash but, my point is that... 95% of all episodes are NECESSARY.

I agree about Fishman Island. I actually really resonated with the theme of inherited generational hatred. Didn't like the Hody backstory that the anime made up, though, it actively ruined the point of Hody (which is that he never suffered personally at human hands and is purely the product of his environment).

Ive loved One Piece for about 20 years or so since i was around 14, and the fanbase still not understanding Fishman Island, or just continuing the "Minority Hunter" meme makes me never want to discuss a thing about the series with them.
My unpopular opinions:
Marineford is trash, it look's like dogs fighting behind some bars, they only bark(and kill cannon fodder).
Foreshadowing doesn't make the story better, sometimes it does nothing, and sometimes it kills the surprise.
I am not interested in all those sad backstories for characters that will appear maybe one more episode in the future.

I agree with almost everything u said, many OnePiece fans can't have a civil conversation about the nuance of the story, but a super small critique. you had all of the new worlds slide show animation to choose from and u chose to pull that sabody scene up as an example of bad animation. That animation style is called kagenashi and it sacrifices shading SPECIFICALLY for more fluid movement. What u probably don't like about it is the art style which is not an animation problem.

I think it's kinda dumb to say that Oda "needed to lose a bet to show/create some of this designs" when he has been doin it for almost 3 decades and some of the problems of One Piece happen because of the way he writtes his manga. Egghead has the 6 satellites, but just 2 of them would have been enought. Oda LOVES to design characters, and I love almost all of his designs, but he sometimes creates characters than end up hurting a little bit the story. One of the satellites had an awesome moment in the recent 1120 chapter and that moment would have been 3 times better if, instead of having 6 satellites, we only had 2 and she was the one that did the majority of the important stuff and interactions in Egghead, most of them feel like useless characters

I feel like, back then in pre-time skip, I wouldn't go for it. But now... I don't mind it.

Valid points in all honesty, and not gonna lie I would reccomend using the main charcther's art in thumbnail as well as a few scenes from the manhua (that's a thing too Wich can help a bit) or even using other manhuas and works too at times to further point some points you are making or just since in all honesty a lot of them are similar that it won't matter

So, I am writing my own adventure story. And yeah, it is fucking hard. Worldbuilding is a hard skill. There is a reason why usually critiques of worldbuilding often boil down to character and/or aesthetic flaws. For example, I don’t think I have to argue why the Lord of the Rings has good worldbuilding. To me, the word means ‘creating an imagined world with a unique history complete with complex socio-political dynamics’. Yeah, it is a bit heady and kind of conditional. But it does separate I think worlds in more objective analysis over say, subjective analysis.
When some people critique one piece, I usually get the ‘It is too long!’ argument and I personally don’t mind. For me, more is more. I like long running things. I read too, so I don’t mind sitting for hours just to immerse myself. I admit, I am definitely an edge case. I think that is valid, and I just move on.
I don’t think however that one piece’s flaws, so to speak are really ‘flaws’.
If art has objective elements, and can have subjective implications or analysis, then really flaws are man made. They are biased. And that is okay. I know some who are biased to long running things because of cultural presence. I think that is fair, but I want specifics other then ‘I just didn’t like it’. At least a modicum of introspection ought to be used.
Really, the only universal, semi objective flaw the franchise has is the fanbase. Now, I admit, I don’t like fanbases as a primary argument on why you shouldn’t get into something. I think if I believed that, I would have also fallen victim to insular anti-fandoms which propagate their own as a sort of, semi loose and organized movement to ‘tear down’ the piece of art ‘for its flaws’. Just ignore fans and the noise if you want, but what is harder to defend is how toxic some actual fans can be. Some will take a critique of their favorite manga as if you shot them in the face. And of course, the psychology and biology backs this up. If you come off too strong in your critique, the fan will probably just double down and ignore all ‘critiques’ be they objective and/or subjective. They will feel literal physical and emotional pain. And these kinds of people tend to pathologize their fandom to their identity being tied to One Piece. Or anything really. I would probably sum this up as the parasocial effect of fiction on fan psychology. The is also similar fandom and/or personal reactions in adjacent communities that make such biases even stronger, such as the power scaling community (aka, My character can beat up your character.)
Sorry, I know this is alot. A bit rambly. My thesis would essentially be: “One piece personally to me is perfect, but the taste is dependent on your desire to enjoy long and subtle details of the creative evolutionary process….and your ability to stomach the next Zoro vs Sanji debate for the 69th time.”
You cant please everyone with art, but the least you can do is advocate that your own art takes inspiration like other pieces of art. Oda himself says his inspirations were from both the East and West, so it is not unusual to say, as unique the world can be that “Whole Cake Island is Disney and Dressrosa is Spain.” Guys, Don Quixote Doflamingo is literally a reference to Don Quixote, the spanish book! Oda is creative, but he is not original. No one can be perfectly original.

The one piece and Naruto fans part I SO agree with. Especially that Naruto fan called @DragonKingMadaraUchiha, he has been calling some good one piece fans on FEXR’s channel “hypocrites” and “narcissists” when HE is the hypocrite and narcissist there.
It's funny cause I have the same opinion on Dragon Ball fans, and it pretty much turned me against the franchise for good.
I've been an on and off fan for the best part of a decade now, and here are some of my critiques to the manga I have as a fan (I'm not a heavy anime watcher, but I do read the manga, so the pacing isn't something that bothers me much.)
1 - One piece has a repetitive structure for each arc. It's good to have a consistency in the story telling, but most long arcs (especially the battle focused ones) have the exact same plot beats. It gets old after a while.
2 - Post time-skip doesn't hit the same heights pre-time skip did. I missed when characters felt like they were dealing with really high stakes. The crew seems to not be facing insuremountable challenges for most of the post time-skip. Bar some moments during Whole cake and the Onigashima raid, and even so, just a few characters were seen struggling. During pre-time skip, every island they reached was a challenge, and ever since the time-skip happened, I stopped worring for their lives. I want to feel that tension again.
3 - Most of the main characters have little character building moments after the arc they are introduced/explored. Relationship crisis inside the main group is one of the best ways to engage with a plot and have the characters grow/develop. Last time we had that, it was Whole cake island, when Sanji had further development. I wish the characters got better moments.
4 - Some of the jokes are so crass and unfunny. I have a hard time indicating One Piece for those who are new to anime, even if I recommend One Pace. That's cuz some of the jokes are just not fun at all, and it takes a level of being used to japanese anime type of humor. The pervert gag is one of the most annoying shit in the entire anime/manga culture.
5 - The sexualization of female characters is pretty crass as well. I do enjoy their writting, but damn... There's no reason for them to be drawn with that type of body shape. The "same face" issue is also a problem ( not only for the pretty women characters, but also for the "handsome men" type of characters.)
6 - Some characters are annoying, and some arcs are a pain to read through, especially if the villains/plots/dialogues aren't interesting enough. First time reading it, I had to force myself to read Skypeia in it's entirety. It was the first time while reading it, that I though the plot got boring and the battles made me want to sleep.
7 - The fights are really uninteresting compared to all the rest. Most battle shonens have intricate fight mechanics, that get more complex or interesting the more the characters master a technique. That's pretty much the focus of battle shonen manga, but One Piece doesn't offer interesting battle mechanics at all. Most fights are pretty much brute force meet some level of strategy depending of the technique/devil fruit ability involved. There's little to think or acompany a character coming up with different/unique strategies during a fight. Luffy pretty much only have to use strategy and evolve during fights, if his brute force/ speed / haki isn't enough. And even so, he can get a sudden power up to help him defeat the bad guy, no further thinking involved. It gets boring. I prefer reading battles from other straw hat members who have to use their brains to achieve something, but even those battles are rare to see nowadays. For a battle shonen, the fight aren't really One piece's strongest points.
Now I need to critique the fanbase as well, cuz the fan behavior makes accompaning the release an "every week struggle".
1 - Fans have terrible etiquete when the subject is respecting non-fan opinions or keeping discussions spoiler free. It's already difficult to convince someone to get into One Piece thanks to the sheer number of chapters/episodes. But it doesn't help that the fans behave like annoying brats to everyone else. Please One Piece fans, let people make their choices and stop shitting on other people''s personal taste. Im a one piece fan, but I don't think One Piece is the best manga ( especially shonen manga ) ever. Respect people's opinion, danmit.
2 - The fanfic / fanart and cosplay scene is pretty tame and polite. However, sometimes the powerscaler shitheads who aren't interested in plot or characters, and only care about battles, act pretty toxic and even homophobic towards the (very tame and chill) transformative work content creators for no reason. I'd understand the hatred from "dudebros" if the fanfic writters/fanartists were the ones who were toxic/overzealous/elitists of the community. But that's not the case here. There's no reason for powerscallers to be assholes to fanfic writters. Let people ship Zoro/Sanji in peace, geez...
3. Powerscallers are some of the worst people in the fandom. It doesn't matter that the super powered dude got beaten in that clutch moment, stop trying to come up with convoluted reasons for that. Stop going "agenda-piece" this, or "the character shouldn't have this bounty cuz they are weaker than this other character with smaller bounty" etc. One piece is not focused on powersystems or the battles themselves. One piece is not Dragon ball. Who wins and who loses depends solely on plot beats and story arcs. It has nothing to do with their battle capabilities. The bounty system has nothing to do with the character'a actual strenght in battle, and all to do with their notoriety. Stop trying to analyse everything in One piece as if it follows the same logic as Dragon ball. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if one of the last fights in the story is a "davvy back fight". Not even Oda cares about powerscalling, and jokes about questions of the like in the questionaire sections all the time. I have no idea why part of the fandom keep on doing that.
4. The fandom is full of mysoginistic, transphobic, homophobic, racist people who pretty much believes in the opposite of what One piece teaches in it's many political messages. One piece is a very political manga, that explore a litany of heavy topics, while mantaining a strong position on the importance of history, the struggle that is to fight for utmost freedom, and how oppression from the powerful/rich/elite, should be destroyed by those who seek that freedom.
Luffy is a freedom fighter. A liberator who knows that some oppressions need to be dealt with using violence. He is not a diplomat who believes a broken system can be fixed from inside out by good people. He believes in breaking bad systems.
A lot of the fanbase absolutely ignores any and all of the political messages in One piece, especially the anarchical/leftist/anti-colonialism/anti-fascist/anti-imperialism/pro-science and history side of it all. And those political instances appears in most of the plot related points. I get it that a lot of the people who read/watch it are young/ political illiterates/ too imature to get the message, but it is frustrating to deal with fans who are absolute blind to those messages, even when they are rubbed on the reader's face. The strawhats would, of course, be pro-palestine and would be labelled as terrorists. If one think otherwise, they do not understand One Piece's political message.
5. Some story choices are there for a reason, and most times a choice is widely disliked, it's because the readers have poor reading capabilities and are really bad at understanding themes/comprehending Oda's writting style. Bonney becoming just like Nika was a great choice plot wise, because it fits her story arc perfectly! When Luffy's gear 5 was introduced, a lot of people hated it because it wasn't a "badass" transformation spawn from vengefulness or hatred like it could be in some other anime/manga. It's one piece! It's Luffy! He wins by bringing hope, being a liberator. He's the smiling warrior of liberation. Of course this transformation fits him. Sanji and Usopp were going though difficult personal problems, and Luffy fumbled Usopp because he lacked maturity as a captain. He didn't fumble Sanji, cuz in WCI, Luffy is more mature. None of those characters betrayed Luffy, they did their choices thanks to personal problems. Stop misinterpreting Oda's intentions as an author. He's crystal clear with his intentions all the time, and a lot of readers lack the minimal brain capacity to understand even that. Also, Garp inclusion was great in the adaptation, because the format NEEDS a pursuer/series long antagonist. Garp was a great choice plot wise. It's an adaptation to another format, and east blue is too episodic for that format. Changes needed to be made because of it. Who cares about "nerfing". Power scalling isn't important for one piece.
Anyways, I'm done yapping. I prefer keeping myself involved with fanfic writting only, and I only discuss one piece with some of the lgbt fans who understand the political message and doesn't care about power scalling. At least this side of the fanbase knows how to critique without wasting time with unimportant bullshit.

I 100% agree on the fights argument. I was just thinking about it these days and came to the conclusion, luffy has mostly never won a fair fight. On east blue luffy was prominently stronger than most of his enemies and would mostly just gomu gomu no bazooka them, on little garden luffy just straigth up discovered who was the real mr. 3 and people insist in saying that was a observation haki foreshadowing, like if oda had even thougth about that yet. On drum luffy struggled more to climb to the castle than to defeat wapol. On Alabasta he went straigth to a fight against a logia user on a place full of the substance he is made of, and won anyways because duh, water, sand, yeah. Then on skypiea he went against another logia user, but no worries duh, rubber, electricity, yeah, but ooh, he has spiky weapon, no problem luffy just dodged, oooh but he is giant and fully made of eletricity, no problem, big gold ball kill him. On water 7 luffy went against with no doubts his weakest crew member that still managed to cause some pretty big damage on him, then on enies lobby the funny moments start, can't kill enemy because too fast? No problem just become fast too with gear 2. Attacks aren't potent as the enemy's? No problem, just make them big with gear 3. Then with the help of plot luffy manages to bullshit his way to defeat lucci. Then on thriller bark, luffys consumes other people's shadows to become... edgy.. luffy? sure he won anyways. But oooh big guy with big power appeared, luffy's gonna die, but no problem goat zoro is there to "nothing happened" their way out of the situation and recover just fine. On sabaody luffy had no big fight and most of his enemies were just extremely more powerful than him. Amazon lily had no fight. Luffy is defeated by magellan on impel down but no problem ivankov can save him at the little cost of some life spam, like if gear 2 already didn't fuck with luffy's health. Then marineford he basically just gets tossed around, frees ace, ace dies, he cries, jimbe wakes him up to reality and he goes training. Then 2 years later he destroys hody jones because "he is stroker now", on punk hazard he destroys caezar clown cuz "he is stronker now", on dressrosa the funny shit returns so now we are going up to gear 4, big luffy, attacks big and powerful, destroys doflamingo. On Whole Cake he insist in doing funny things, can't kill biscuit guy? Big gear 4, can't kill mochi guy? faster gear 4 (defies laws of physics btw). Then on Wano, BAM, luffy gets smashed by kaido, but eh no problem he returns... just to be SMASHED by kaido again, and just to put a cherry on top of the cake, now his fruit out of nowhere is a Mythical Super Special God Type Fruit Model: Funny Man, so he can do funny shit and have a explanation to why he kills the enemy easier. Egghead hasn't ended yet so idk, you can consider him vs lucci a big fight but luffy was just doing funny moments again with his recently discovered funny fruit.

Every win and loss in One piece is everything to do with plot, and little to do with logistics, because the fights are never the main focus of the series.
I particularly love fights in manga where the weaker character needs to use their brain/strategy in order to win. This rarely happens in One piece, making the battles, at least to me as a reader, not as interesting as the plot/world building/characters.
Thats why its so annoying that the fanbase focus so much on powerscalling. Its a useless way of analyzing one piece. Oda makes it clear time and time again. One piece is not a typical "battle shonen". Its more like an "adventure shonen", a classification for itself. None of the typical fighting system from other shonen fits the story here, and thats what makes One piece so unique.
Okay, read through everything, and you're right on most fronts, I've brought up many of those topics in previous videos/plan to bring some up in other videos, and criticizing so many aspects of the story/fanbase that negatively impact your experience is 100% valid. I'll admit that I usually ignore the political issues in One Piece (or any other story) because politics are divisive, and I'm (usually) just trying to entertain people, but your observations from Oda's narrative choices are accurate, and he has made his stances known in ways many people refuse to recognize.
The main point I really disagree with you on is the Garp thing. While I don't think powerscaling should be obsessed over to the degree of being able to accurately rank every single combatant in the story, I do think it should be broadly uniform. The problem I had with Garp's inclusion wasn't that it was different from the original story or that a Marine sub-plot was added, my problem was that Garp specifically was a bad choice. As a Vice Admiral, he's meant to be a figure completely outside of Luffy's weight class. He holds a terrifying rank that Luffy should stand no chance of being able to oppose. In the OPLA, however, he's shown to struggle in his pursuit of an upstart pirate. What should be a powerful looming presence fails at his role because the entire audience knows he has no genuine intentions of bringing Luffy to justice.
An antagonist we do not believe is actually trying to antagonize the cast is as good as no antagonist at all, and if we *were* meant to somehow believe that Garp was putting his best foot forward in his pursuit, it ruins the tension going forward as the audience begins to completely underestimate the capabilities of a Vice Admiral.
For what Garp's inclusion was meant to achieve, a character like Smoker would have been a much more realistic threat, and wouldn't have had the same negative narrative consequences of Garp. Smoker would even have led more seamlessly into the Loguetown arc, and made for even greater drama during the East Blue's final stop.

Oda is in fact not Goda and just a human (after all) and therefore should not be held on unreasonably high standard which when not lived up to sometimes people are doing their absolute best to ignore it. Always coping "Goda cannot make mistakes" and sure it might be one the meticulously crafted stories ever put to paper, still it is not perfect. Also does not help when people who cannot take criticism for their favorite piece of media end up going out their way to tell everyone who likes literally any other anime/manga that one piece is the best and we got a effed situation.

what i hate is the constant micro-spoiling, situation: someone is watching one piece for the first time and is at the first episodes, some op fan in the comments says: "just wait till u see what shanks can do" or "just wait till u get to water 7" or "the next arc you'll watch is called arlong park and it's an amazing arc", people need to stop with these semi-spoilers and stop acting like they aren't spoilers
Tbh old one piece isnt necessarily bad, its just lack of animations, like literally having just a drawing but camera moves from one side to another, if not just standing still, and sadly this issue still exists in modern one piece where it will just a single drawing with little to no movement going on for 10+ second, and if there is movent its a high possiblity of it being the same 5 seconds of animations streched out. And for me personally wano part in the anime was so fuckin confusing, like i watched multiple episodes in a row but it just felt i was watching the same episode for good 2-5 episodes (im talking about the raid part).
All and all the anime can be just an infuriating experience.

Yep, only thing I find weird is fans making their favorite Mangas author/ artist a God and how they're some perfect entity. I appreciate all authors from the Mangas and shows I enjoy but most of them are strange from a westerners stand point in terms of morals and values irl.

I agree with most of it, but I really never hear the "it's too long" argument besides reason why people don't wanna watch it. Ofcourse then you can reccomend One Pace, the goal is to reach new fans obviously. Pacing is garbage, Toei doesn't really handle it.
