Thank you! A lot of home improvements can be intimidating but once you try it and work at your own pace, the satisfaction after the job is done is so rewarding.
Pella says to lay the bottom bead of caulk up against the inside sill, not the middle. I was told it was so that if any water makes it down onto the sill, it can be shed to the outside, not trapped under the window.
Hi handywoman I’m getting a pella window I have a question what was your old window depth before you installed the new one does the depth really matter my old window from the screen to the sill is 5 inches and the new window is 3-1/2
The depth of the older windows were smaller and when I installed the new Pella window I had to chisel out some of the old stool (window ledge). It was about a half an inch too big. You push the window in, up against the small exterior wood trim. Then you score the wood, at the bottom where the window meets up with the wood ledge. I used a chisel and hammer and cut it out. Don’t worry, if it’s not perfect because you will caulk and paint when your all done with the installation. You could also put in a new indoor stool (window ledge) but it’s easier just to chisel out the wood.
Great job! This gives me confidence when taking on home projects. Excellent video and thank you for sharing.

Oh ok, yes that makes sense. Thank you!
Did the pella 150 cut down the outside noise vs a single pane with exterior storm window
Yes, much quieter
and the blinds don't gently sway when it's windy outside.
@@Handywoman I noticed you have an older house? Does it have insulation in your exterior walls?
My house was built in 1882. No there’s no insulation, just some old newspapers in some parts lol.

How many pre drilled holes are there? I only found 2 on my window. Is this accurate?
I think there was only 2 on mine also.
After having some experience doing it, how long do you think it should take to install the window (north including painting)
To install one window it could take you about an hour.
10 for effort, 5 execution. Thank you though.
Just a 5 for execution? Why not a 10?
@@Handywoman well, I saw a few mistakes. But I commend.
