One more Mistake - Any company that advertises constantly on your local radio, tv, or sends mail........Way overprices. You're paying for that marketing.

Just out of curiosity I had Anderson windows come out to quote me. And for seven windows, it was $14,000.
Mainly I wanted to learn more about windows. And instead of reading and watching everything online the guy just answered all my questions lol

Then why don’t you guys buy the materials and install them yourselves. You want a professional job done right? Then why act weird if they ask you for your business. Now if the product is crappy and you don’t trust the company then cool. If it checks all the boxes why continue to put it off ?

    • @Cortezuma

@@harlemnights4381I think you’re missing the point. People are willing to pay for a job done right… but when people come in at $47k and then end up saying only if you buy today you can have it for $17k, then it’s just dishonest and the tactic is disrespectful. Nobody likes their time wasted and their intelligence insulted.

For anyone coming here, my big mistake was not understanding these terms; insert, pocket, replacement, and full-tear out, new construction, and what they mean, and how they are significant. The discussions around windows all center around wood or vinyl…etc. So anyway, what they fail to tell is, some windows only come in “new construction.” If you choose to do “inserts” and the other windows are “new construction only” the ORIGINAL PROPORTIONS will be thrown off, which is important especially for the front of your home. Nobody tells you this, Nobody cares, but it changes what an architect might have already carefully organized. Architecture is an important consideration, because as they say “the windows are the eyes to your homes soul.” ❤

I am in the window and door business in California. I have never tried to high pressure sell product. Educating the customer has always been my way of selling product. I sell a large selection of product from quite a few different companies. The best window to buy is the one that fits your budget and style. Top of the line is not always the best fit for a window project.

  • @liammcgough9969

We had the same experience your describing after Hurricane Sandy. The same company that sells windows sells roofing service. I just buy my own materials flooring etc now. Than hire someone to install it. That way they can't skimp on materials and I only pay for labor. And I only pay after the job is completed. That way if they don't show up or don't finish the job i"m not losing my money.

Hi Jeff, GREAT video. A while ago I had a number of window companies come out to give me quotes, but when they ask their "closing" questions during the demonstration, I told them I wouldn't be buying tonight because I already have another one or two window companies scheduled to come out (even when it got down to the last company) and I want to see what they have to offer before purchasing. Of course, they tell me their window is better, but... When they bring up the "tonight only" price at the end of the demo, I tell them that is a bunch of BS and if I call their company back and they don't honor the "tonight only" price they have lost my business. They do not have to send the salesman back. It doesn't cost them anything for them to send me the contract via email or snail mail and have me sign it and send it back. Unfortunately, I didn't purchase windows previously, but I'm about to start the process again. This time I only need quotes from two or three companies since I am already familiar with their products and just want to get the current price. And I definitely agree... fall in love with the company first. Find one that has a great reputation and stands behind their product and their work!

I used to be in the high pressure window sales game. I would get bonuses if I was thrown out of a house. Also the one tactic that you missed that worked for me was factory direct. I was a factory representative and every day we were on the verge of laying off factory workers. So if you buy right now you will get the best price because your helping us keep our employees working. Your doing is a favor so we will do you a favor on the price.

Yes…. The local Anderson Window dealer did most of these tactics. But I had purchased from them years ago when I was flush and knew the owners brother in law so I received what I thought was a good price. This time around I cancelled on the second day after. My windows were around $78k but my today price was 54. After getting approved I mulled over the interest rate (which was low but I hate paying interest these days!) and the term of the loan. Decided to cancel on the second day. Then several calls offering lower prices.
I’ll do it myself. I’m handy and have time. Just need to get someone to order the windows!

Excellent video! Thank you for saving so many customers from a high pressured sales pitch...it just happened to me yesterday. I had Renewal by Anderson at my house ....with a strong sales pitch....wanted to make sure all home owners/decision maker meet with him. Gave me an estimate of $80k+ for 23 windows. But also said that there will be a factory discount of $20k+ if I signed a contract right away. I too stood firm that I will get estimates from at least 2 additional companies before I sign any contract. So he said the discount will be off and the price is up to $80k+ as soon as he is out the door. I thanked him for coming. I am continuing my research and thats how I found this video. I'll be watching all your videos first.....I am not in the Houston area. Thank you so much !!!

Depending on the project I met every one of those sales people over the past few years, I spent 52 years as an engineer in the construction business including capital plant sales - its a waste of their and our time.
Why do they do it? I laugh at them when they try the tricks you mention, and more.
Good for you to identify the less than honest folks in the industry.
One point you mentioned I have to emphasize, quality and knowledge of the installing crew. Its paramount a great product installed badly will still be bad.

OMG, I should have done my due diligence with you first, Jeff. The pushy sales person was so good in her sales tactics that I signed the contract without giving me at least 1 day to think about it. I cancelled the contract the next day by voicemail message and email to the Design Consultant. No response from her after 9 hours of waiting for confirmation. I called the Customer Care Team and let them know what happened and he said he’ll relay my message to his supervisor. Guess what I got a call from her within minutes of my call to the rep. Her supervisor talked to her and said they can put my order on hold. That should have happened yesterday when I was begging for just 1 day to think about it. I said NO please cancel the contract. 😮 Wow, this is a great video, a million 🙏 thanks.RbA should retrain their sales people to listen to what their Customers want and Not what they want to happen. They have a great product and they’re going to lose customers because of the manipulative way they handle and treat their customers. For all I know RbA probably don’t care and maybe encourage this kind of behavior, I hope I am wrong.

Wow, I just went through mistakes 3,4, & 5 today with a reputable national brand. I flat out told them that the today only pricing reflected very poorly on their company, and we didn’t bite. They said to expect follow up calls from their “manager” if they don’t hear from us. (The rehash manager?). Glad I found your channel. While I rarely fall for these techniques, having done contract management for many years, there is always a new angle. I wasn’t aware of the scenario around zero percent financing. Going to watch for that in the future. My opinion of this national brand of windows went down quite a bit today.

It's a delicate line that took me a few years to master, but two bits of advice.....talk a LOT less than you do, and LISTEN a whole lot more. Even if you feel you don't speak too much....you do. I guarantee it. Let them ramble. Don't correct them along the way. When they wear themselves out, pause, and offer a recap to their comments. "So, Mrs. Smith, if I understand you correctly, is it fair to say you are AS interested in the beauty of a new window as you are in its energy performance? Have I got that right?" Consolidate and confirm. "Oh, that's good....let me show you window that satisfies both of your primary concerns." That's a method I've managed to hone. It works.

Me and my business partner have a US-based marketing company, with a call center in Venezuela; for three years we have given leads to windows companies and everything this man is saying is the pure truth... our client companies are just the way he described. They require all homeowners to be there and if the rep arrives and one party is missing, they won't give the free quote. They offer nonsense fake promotions like "end-of-the-year"or whatever. They do have a rehash department with an area manager to lower the price... Everything is true.

I own a damage restoration company WA and I just started building my very first home. Scumbag sales tactics used by scumbag sales people are in every industry especially today more than ever. They increase the price 300% then give the customer some bs holiday discount that drops it down to 200% and then give the customer a "additional only now while I am here" discount that drops it to 150% and at the end of the day the customer who falls for their bs still overpays 50%. Do your homework, take rough measurements and educate yourself on the window types you have and what you want instead if you want to change the style, then go to a reputable window store with all that information and get a price, when you like the window style and price you can then request that they come and do a final window measurement before the order goes in to the manufacturer. At the end of the day you have avoided scumbags, saved time, money and your nerves. You have the money and you should be in control with anything that you want to buy and don't let someone else make you think you are not, if they try to tell you otherwise, tell them to take a hike because you are wasting your time.

(in my area) I Definitely made the mistake of the chunky frames.
Made the mistake of a sliding window and door that have no noise reduction properties.
made the mistake of awning windows that bow in the middle on a hot day and let the noise in.
made the mistake of retractible flyscreens on the inside, trapping the bugs on the inside of the house.
made the mistake of installers that use chinese fabrication. delays, delays
made the mistake of deadlock windows and doors that need a key on the inside, and that key has to be vertical or it wont lock from the outside, or you cant get in either if twisted.
made the mistake of installers that dont have employees, so cant control their installation quality
made the mistake of upvc that cost as much as a new car, and will probably last as long.
the only thing I love is the new day night honeycomb curtains mounted inside the reveals, I would have their babies if it were possible.

Went to a Home & Garden Show in Tulsa. Signed up for RbA to come out and give me a quote on replacing the windows encased in brick. A couple days before the appointment a receptionist called to verify appointment, and sure enough she kept asking if both home owners would be present even after I specifically told her that I make the decision on home repair/maintenance. I just cancelled the appointment. I sensed the attempted pressure sales tactics immediately.

Same thing happened to me with Champion windows a few years ago. I didn't bite. Just like a car salesman....if you push me, I'll walk right out the door and drive 500 miles to another dealership to get a better deal. Been there, done that and saved thousands.

Great show, looking to help my son with his replacment windows. So today I put some information in and about 10 minutes later, like magic, the phone rings it’s a window lady. I tell her what I’m doing to help my son and then she tells me your son will have to be there just like you said they want everybody at the first meeting so you can’t say well I have to ask my spouse.

Why not just say you didn't want to buy instead of those guys relying on their comming money coming to them but you canceled and their lives and families were affected?
      You're the worst
