Really great video as always! Personally, I lean more towards the GoPro right now. The 360 footage looks really cool, but I just don't like that the resolution of the end product is so low. The thing I find very interesting about the current Black Friday deals over at GoPro though, is that they've increased the prise of the Hero 11 this week, so 15% off isn't a big sale compared to the price last week (at least here in Sweden, 15% off is just making a few dollars difference (converted from SEK). I don't know how it is in the other countries, but at least the Swedish GoPro site isn't running a very good deal). I was very disappointed seeing that, because the sale was much better during the Halloween deals, which I find a bit strange because I thought Black Friday usually offers better deals than Halloween. Hopefully they'll have better prices on Friday, but I'm not sure since they're already offering a pretty good price with the subscription.
I am leaning toward the GoPro as of right now. I have a hero 4 and (just like all the other comments say) the quality of the 360 cams aren’t good enough. I also NEED the Insta360 to be more durable to scratches. I do mountain biking and snowboarding, so if I fall the camera could be heavily damaged or even broken. I’d love to try a 360 camera nonetheless
For filming activities with your kids it seems to me the X3 will be much easier to work with. And resolution vs actually usable footage is something a lot of people don’t get until they have gone through a few cameras. A shot where dad doesn’t have to make everyone wait for the camera setup is a lot easier on everybody and results in better footage IMO.
I am sold on the X3. With the 360 footage I don't need to worry where I mount the camera or where I am pointing at, I can decide the angle in post which is my favourite feature. Also the invisible stick effect is insane, never get tired of it lol. My uncle just bought the gopro 11 a couple of weeks ago and he sent it back, it was freezing every now and then

I've had the GOPRO hero 9 for a couple of years and love it. I use it mostly for overlanding video and the stabilization is great. Just picked up the Insta 360 X3 and it does amazing stuff also. But you're right, they are two very different cameras with different usages. Just driving down dirt roads I think the Gopro is a clear winner because I set the lens to linear and get rid of a lot of dashboard from my truck. The 360 X3 shows a lot of dashboard that gets boring after a few seconds. But having the ability to video 360 degrees and editing it later means I won't miss thing as much, if at all. Both will be used with all my travels and TH-cam videos and really looking forward to Maui this spring and snorkeling with the Insta 360 X3, I think it will be awesome in that environment.

Just received my X3. I used to have Gopro 9 but decided not to upgrade to 11. Looking for something new and fun so decided to buy X3 simply because the invisible selfie stick...
I bought a GoPro 10 just before the GoPro 11 came out, i have never had a problem with it freezing or anything else up to now, i did crash my MTB and the GoPro took the full impact but apart from a slight scrape to the edge of the lense it is fine and still no problems with it, the price puts me off the 360 X3 so i am thinking of getting a GoPro 11 but i might wait and see what the next GoPro is like first, price does play a big part in my decisions and i think it does for a lot of people.
Two separate tools for different things. But if you can take only just 1 in an unfortunate way, I’d say the 360 X3. But in my case it would be the DJI Action 3 for filming others and the Insta360 X3 for self filming. After an entire day of watching camera videos of GoPro, Insta360 X3 and DJI Action 3 camera reviews, that’s how I narrow it down and for use. Can have both, just use them differently.
I use both the 11 and the 3X.... the 11 is great underwater with proper video lights.. the 3X is not a deep dive camera as it will never ever work with proper video lights underwater... works fine at shallow diving with the housing... so you can actually mix the footage and using both you can show a dive vacation so much better than if you had to just choose one camera..
I have BOTH. I like Go Pro for point and shoot content but Insta360 is great for when I do live demos where a point and shot camera can’t capture every angle or all the action happening. If you’re rough on your action camera DO NOT get the Insta360 because you will have to ship the camera back, it takes around two weeks to get it back, and the repair cost is SINFUL 💀
The part you left out is the video editing. The X3 requires some video editing experience to really make it work. GOPro is far easier on the video editing. I shoot with the X3 as it is a complete film studio in your pocket. I think image quality is the compromise with the X3 as the GoPro has better image quality
That Insta360 tripod can also be used for bullet time, which isn't used often, but can be kind of a cool secondary shot. I have the X2 and the Hero 8, use them both, but I've prefered the X2 as I don't have to think too much about where I'm pointing. Lens covers for the 360 are a must and I don't think detract that much, and with mtn biking it's required.
Solid points Troy! How often do you need to swap out your lens protectors? I find that a little rock bump and I usually get a pretty noticeable scratch on the cover
@@DavidManningvlog I've been lucky so far an no rock strikes, But I also use the rubber lens cover a lot. I think our PNW trails aren't quite as dry as they are where you are.
Great to know your opinion but, my man, talk about downloading the content from the camera, app gimmicks, accessory compatibility, performance in different settings, first time buyer’s heads ups… there’s so many categories that are missing from this comparison.
Good points I was thinking the same. I like the GoPro unlimited upload subscription and the auto-upload feature that saves every clip to the Cloud in original resolution. Even lets you save non-GoPro videos I think. It also pretty easy to edit videos from the app.
DM - totally agree with both if you can, I have a 7 black and a one x2. I don't fully trust the insta for water proof action but otherwise it gets more use right now. Just wish, 2 years or so into it that insta would already put out next gen 360 with higher reso when you frame down. whichever brand accomplishes that in their next release will crush the market
I look at it this way: If somebody is doing things that need an action cam, they should (already) have a GoPro in their kit. Most people then, should get the 360 camera before upgrading their GoPro. Can i ask: what's that tripod pole you use for both of your cameras? (LOL heh heh)
Couple additional points in the gopros favor. Audio is much better on the gopro. Also if you are changing light say in and out of the woods the gopro does much better. Snowboarding shots in the insta look great, not a fan of them on bikes. They dont seem to stabilize as well and the iso balance on the gopro is much better. While id love to have both, as a solo option i gotta stick with gopro
I'm looking forward to getting the 360 as a poor man's drone. More to the point, drones are hard to travel to foreign countries with (some get really paranoid about them!). But sticking a 360 action camera on a BAS (big a$$ stick) up high out the window or roof rack is a good substitute.
Hey! What do you recommend for a water park/family vacation? That’s mainly what I want it for for family moments/vacations. I’m struggling here to decide
Tnx David for the video. IMO, for 90% of users, the insta 360 wins. I've had enough of filming others and had too many trips without a pic or a video of myself.
Coming from the Hero 8, and all of the headaches surrounding the software issues with go pro. I just ordered the X3; I’d much rather get every shot in 1080p, than completely miss it in 4K lol 😂
I have both. But the 360 is the best for me. I record kayak fishing. The 360 can get the shot that takes at least 3 Gopro's. Now, if I'm talking or showing what I see on my fishfinder, I use a Gopro. The 360 is behind me, and Gopro is facing me.
Some of my favorite shots are from the Insta360 because there’s no pole and it looks like someone is filming you. But I do like go pro for more vlog style. Sooo we need both!
Wouldn’t a better comparison have been between the GoPro Max and the Insta360? After all, both are a 360 degree action camera. I’ve got the Max, and the footage is great. Had it mounted on the rear of my motorbike, and the footage is great. No shaking, even on the back of a large V-Twin bike that shakes and vibrates a lot
Both good tools, but the issue with the INSTA is the faffing around with the pre processing, GoPro 11 is is the way to go if you can only afford the one.
I have both and me personally, I 100% recommend the X3. I honestly can't stand the GoPro, too finicky, too many bugs and constantly missing footage because of freezing up and overheating. The freezing and overheating have been a problem from day one with GoPro and they have done very little if anything to fix it. It's even worse if you have your GoPro in the media mod and now you have to pull it apart freezes to pull the battery wasting time and missing footage. There is also no comparison to battery life on the Insta360 X3, X3 wins hands down, go's the entire day without having to swap out or recharge a battery. Now if I'm comparing the X3 to the Max, again, can't beat the X3 in battery life, size, function and stitching, hell the Fusion was a better 360 than the MAX, at least the Fusion you could shoot in low light, the MAX is done at sunset. GoPro's customer service is horrendous and that is being generous at best. Vid quality may be a touch better on the GoPro but thats only if it doesn't bug out before you shoot, X3 works every time. Just a note: Insta is working on replaceable lenses, next generation maybe? I replace camera's almost every 12 months or so, so not really an issue if I scratch one. My X3 spends a lot of time sticking out in front of my Jeep on the trail and going though brush, not a scratch yet and Ive cleaned a lot of mud off of it.
Any thoughts on the best motovlogging setup. I am thinking of 1 GP on my helmet and 1 Insta on my bar. Im having thoughts on how to setup the best mic option.
what camera do you suggest for just the usual family type and holiday videos with the only action type shot being the race for the buffet at the hotel😂 we just want an easy to use camera that really shows off holiday scenery etc... (only cameras available in the Uk please) Your videos are great by the way...
I’ve heard GoPro 11 battery gets hot faster and it shuts off quicker. So I’ll stick with my GoPro 9 but I just bought a insta360. X3 and I love the quality more on the insta360. Insta360 films in a higher quality than the GoPro 11. I saw videos saying GoPro 11 films in like 5.1k or something like that while insta360 x3 films in 5.7k (even though it’s not much difference ).
I currently have a gopro 4 an been using it for pov fishing videos, but looking between upgrading between these two camera's, is there one you would recommend one over the other for somthing like how i want to shoot?
Your summary was bang on the money, both cameras serve different purposes and as such you pick the right tool for the job. Get and use both! There's something nice and simple about having a fixed view though, probably not having to go through hours of footage from all those different angles, plus an easier editing workflow.
I like how Insta360 X3 is UVC support out of the box with no need install software. I dislike GoPro in this case, needs software. I’d prefer media mod an USB hdmi capture.
Hi David, been following your channel for 2 months now and on the fence about purchasing action cam. I am interested in either one of these cams however my current situation in terms of hardware is a Samsung S8+, A33-5G and Intel MiniPC onboard VGA 8GB/512GB. Would it make sense to buy these cams with those considerations? Thx and keep up the energetic great videos. Cheers from Indonesia
I own a go pro 10 black. I like the camera but the battery life sucks. It takes longer to charge the battery than it runs.. what is the battery life on the insta 3?
Hello, Would like to know what you think. Would the X3 work for filming a soccer game, if i place it high in the middle next to the pitch? For match analysis?
5.7K is the entire 360 sphere that you record, but then when you reframe and cut a 16:9 video out of that sphere, it becomes 1080. And they usually run specials where you can get the stick included👍
Great review pal.. I am not a pro. can you please suggest me if x3 in single lens 4k mode video will be normal like go pro or it will give a round shape view of the background like the 360 mode? Then I'll go for the twin edition, where both 4k and 360 different lenses are available. I heard about the heating issues with gopro 11. I need to shoot myself during vlog and video regarding daily life which does not require 360 all the time.
I just bought the insta360 X3 & WOW, what a cool piece of tech!!! 💯👍 Even a novice like me can look like a real videographer, because no matter what way you face the camera you can edit it & guys the perspective in the app. Yeah, you're not lying, the Ulanxi PT-20 was hard to find, I ordered the wrong 1 off insta360, so had to get the right 1 from B&H Photo, because they had free shipping, unlike insta360. I bought the sticky lens as well, but questionable about using them, how are they still holding up, any issues visible? Didn't look too bad in your video, but could see glares & the dreaded red dot
Help please, I got the X3 camera and I see that in normal 360 video outdoors, the image is too white and unclear, while in other modes (photo, 1 lens video) the image is normal and clear. Why is this happening? How do you fix this please?
how does the single lens mode on the X3 compare to the 4k boost lens on the OneRS and Hero 11 as a helmet cam? possible compromise to buying both the X3 and Hero 11? or is the single lens mode on the X3 just as good as the 4k boost lens?
Have you taken the x3 surfing yet? Do you have to use the dive case? I want to pick it up for surfing action shots in San Diego but can’t find anyone that is using it for this. And I am curious about the built in waterproofing. Thanks for your videos!
I know technically the gopro is filming at a higher quality but on TH-cam it almost not noticeable. I also think the Insta360 clips are visually more stable. I don’t have either one of the newest versions of these cameras. I have a GoPro 4 and an Insta360 ONEX. I’m really hoping for a new upgraded Insta360 Go3.
I went through this in the spring when i wanted my first action camera to supplement my sports photography. I went with the Hero 9 b/c I did not understand the role of a 360 camera at the time. At the time, I was comparing GoPros with the One RS and I liked the quality of the GoPro better. Now I wish I had a 360 of some sort, so I am looking for a used one (I can't justify the cost of a new one as I do not think I'll ever make any money with it) and have learned a ton from your videos this year. Also, I really like those tripods and stick. Are they one unit or is that the selfie stick you linked in your accessories video on top of something else?
compared x3,hero11and action 3 ,just went to 11 just for mostly the image quality and dynamic range and in addition to pretty good stabilization ,,360 looks cool but will wait for it a little more time .too many brands to cary ,I think the next version of max will get it right with the 360 .will wait for until they get hero 4k60 in go pro max .
Great video! I have a Hero 7 and I am looking at a new camera for motovloging, but also looking at different angles for the videos. Have some friends that got the Hero 11 and are complaining that they overheat all the time and they lost their videos. So, I'll probably move on with the insta and keep my Hero 7 attached to the helmet. Thanks for the video!

I have both. They aren't the same. They are 2 different types of camera's for different uses.
GoPro is yesterday's action camera. I have 2 Gopros but I just received my new X3 today. It is way more fun than a GP.
I look at it this way:
If somebody is doing things that need an action cam, they should (already) have a GoPro in their kit.
Thanks for the Black Friday links! I bought a GoPro Hero 11 Black and saved some money :)
Trick. Export X3 in reframed 1080 then run that clip through Topaz for 4k. Amazing results.
I'm looking forward to getting the 360 as a poor man's drone. More to the point, drones are hard to travel to foreign countries with (some get really paranoid about them!). But sticking a 360 action camera on a BAS (big a$$ stick) up high out the window or roof rack is a good substitute.
Same!
go pro 1 for footage?
Hey David! Love your videos. What selfie sticks are you using in this video? They look Carbon and Beefy.. Thanks!
I must fit in that 10% 😅
The X3 is for sure the best "Film Yourself" camera I've ever used!
Very informative review thanks!
What advice would you give a beginner whose buying their first Action Camera to go with the Insta360 or GP?
which one will you recommend for a guy who will be filming while riding motorcycle? Thank you
Batt Life ?
If you traveling somewhere and you want to record the experience which one would be better ?
Thank Man. Good info And great delivery too. I'm buying the Insta 360 x3 to fill in some gaps in my vlogging..
Hi David can you make a video or tutorials video how to edit video from insta360 x3 ? Thank you.
Does the insta360 lenses covers make a difference in not stacking the camera. I’m trying to decide what to buy
Which is better for live streaming?
Some of my favorite shots are from the Insta360 because there’s no pole and it looks like someone is filming you. But I do like go pro for more vlog style. Sooo we need both!
I agree. They take very different shots and I found them useful in different situations.
Insta360 - if you wanted to showcase your surroundings
Gopro - if you wanted to showcase what you feel while doing your sport/xtreme sport
The Insta360 X3 has lens protectors available, so the durability issue is a moot point.
have you tried any, i need one thats good but all the reviews ive seen say they suck
don't be silly. I'm shopping for a camera and seriously considering the X3, but calling durability a "moot point" is just silly
Mhh on the motorcycle Insta360 X3 rules supreme though
What would you recommend for trail running?
You should have mentioned that the X3 has lens guards too. Just like the Hero. Those guards protects the lens very well.
Look at what other people say about them. They create flare. Not like go pro.
@@Catpanl that's exactly right, I removed the lens guards of my X3 because of this, and the footage is way better without them.
Both good tools, but the issue with the INSTA is the faffing around with the pre processing, GoPro 11 is is the way to go if you can only afford the one.
I watched the end of the video so I don't need to ask what pole you use. Did you ever try with the 360 to upscale the footage to 4k and than edit it?
hey david! what’s the selfie stick/tripod used in the video for the gopro?
I always use the Insta360 invisible selfie stick for all of my action cameras👍
Div what’s the selfie stick that you are using in this video if you don’t mind pls.thanks ❤
Hi, what is the name of the tripod stick youre using?
Which one would be better to mount to my helmet when wakeboarding.? Great video, big fan of the channel.
I would vote GoPro for that👍
@@DavidManningvlog Aye thank you.!!
Who’s battery life is better?
X3 Can do single lens mode at 4K. Essentially you have both cameras in one.
What about GoPro Max David? I know it’s pretty bad editing in the GoPro app, but I would like to know about your thoughts about GoPro 360 camera.
Hands down for action, travel and overall versatility, the Insta360 paired with the invisible selfie stick is the winner!
I have both now too! Just picked up the X3 for the exact reason of filming myself! Gopro for the vlog styles. Thanks for a great video David!
06:32 The cast shadow ruins the 21st-century technology of Insta 360 x3 🤠
Hahaha! I don't know about ruined, but it for sure gives away the effect🤣
Thanks for guide. Please advice how is the sound recording quality on each of these cameras? Can we attach 3d microphones?
I’ve heard GoPro 11 battery gets hot faster and it shuts off quicker. So I’ll stick with my GoPro 9 but I just bought a insta360. X3 and I love the quality more on the insta360. Insta360 films in a higher quality than the GoPro 11. I saw videos saying GoPro 11 films in like 5.1k or something like that while insta360 x3 films in 5.7k (even though it’s not much difference ).
I am not a tech expert but how about using go pro with a insta 360 stick?😢
I have gopro11. So far happy with it. Im curious though what tripod are u using for both of these items?
Hello,
Would like to know what you think. Would the X3 work for filming a soccer game, if i place it high in the middle next to the pitch?
For match analysis?
Im confused, is the insta 360 1080 like you mention in the video - But on the web-specs it says 5,7k 30 fps?
Also, is the stick included or extra $$ ?
Even a novice like me can look like a real videographer, because no matter what way you face the camera you can edit it & guys the perspective in the app.
I just like the audio/video quality on the GoPros better.
Thank you that was helpful... how about audio quality ? Also can you edit the insta 360 in final cut pro or must you use their editing software?
Help please, I got the X3 camera and I see that in normal 360 video outdoors, the image is too white and unclear, while in other modes (photo, 1 lens video) the image is normal and clear. Why is this happening? How do you fix this please?
On the insta 360 do you use the lens protectors?
how does the single lens mode on the X3 compare to the 4k boost lens on the OneRS and Hero 11 as a helmet cam? possible compromise to buying both the X3 and Hero 11? or is the single lens mode on the X3 just as good as the 4k boost lens?
GoPro is better. Larger sensor and better optics.
@@Catpanl looking for an all in one for both 360 and helmet cam
Where did you get the snap Mount with a green bottom? Is that rubber texturing for cars use?
do you have review for motovlogging, which camera is the best from the two?
I have a question. Will the quality of the X3 footage enough for viewing on aa 55inch 4k tv? Thank you for the answer.
Have you taken the x3 surfing yet? Do you have to use the dive case? I want to pick it up for surfing action shots in San Diego but can’t find anyone that is using it for this. And I am curious about the built in waterproofing. Thanks for your videos!
Do you have any more info about this? Im looking into the X3 for surfing but a tad scared to use it in salt water
I wish the X3 had a 1 inch sensor, if it did there would be no discussion. It's still better than the Hero 11 tho.
I love the sound effect on scratching! Wuzhaaa!!
Are they one unit or is that the selfie stick you linked in your accessories video on top of something else?
compared x3,hero11and action 3 ,just went to 11 just for mostly the image quality and dynamic range and in addition to pretty good stabilization ,,360 looks cool but will wait for it a little more time .too many brands to cary ,I think the next version of max will get it right with the 360 .will wait for until they get hero 4k60 in go pro max .
what kind of tripod you use?
One of the most underrated youtuber
Very kind of you to say👊
is it water proof
In my GoPro videos, you do not see the selfie stick. I have no issue with that. And I am recording myself.
at my location anyway gopro hero 11 and 10 black are both on sale at walmart for $399 and the 9 is for $299
If you haven’t can you review GoPro 360 camera?
Why didnt you use hero max?
Cool informative video. This will really help us which one to choose.Thank you.
How do magnets work?
Great video! I have a Hero 7 and I am looking at a new camera for motovloging, but also looking at different angles for the videos. Have some friends that got the Hero 11 and are complaining that they overheat all the time and they lost their videos. So, I'll probably move on with the insta and keep my Hero 7 attached to the helmet. Thanks for the video!
