      @Dcrainmaker Hey man
      Nick Woodman said in an interview that max superview has a linear look to it when using the max lens mod v2
      Is this correct?
      I always shoot linear as I'm not a fan of the fisheye look and would love a wider FOV that's straight on the sides and edges

    Fantastic no nonsense overview - thank you. 👍 Some useful upgrades in this one (log and wireless mic, 1/4" hole,) and I always like GoPro slow-mo. Still DJI's Action4 20minutes to 80% charge and front touch screen have a bit of an edge in everyday do-it-all usability. The GPS is a bit odd subtraction, no doubt contributed to lower cost and better heat management. It is a feature I don't use most often - true - but when I want one that's when I reach for an action cam, so not having it..., I think, the on/off option would have been better. BTW great overheating experiment incidental find! 😃Cool t-shirt too😜

    Great video. You forgot 1 thing though: mic adapter requirement for go pro for long videos (without bt) vs direct USB type c for DJI OA4. I wish this would have made it to gpa12. Other than this and battery charging speed, I think it's a great update

    • @Dcrainmaker
      @Dcrainmaker  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, the GoPro Media Mod has that covered, but I do agree I wish GoPro would support native USB-C mics (albeit, there isn't a great standard there oddly enough), instead, I just wish they offered a cheap USB-C to 3.5mm adapter akin to what DJI does.

    LOVED this in-depth review! The decision-swaying note for me was the fact both the internal & bluetooth mics are recorded together with the option to choose in post-production. Def will make me worry less about an external mic bugging out/sounding bad knowing that the internal mic will still be there as a backup!

    Hi DC Rainmaker,
    Thanks for the hard work and time putting these videos together.
    It gives a more holistic overview of what the GP is capable to do without all the noise and complaints from past GP users who rightfully and unrightfully had bad experiences.
    An idea for your future contents is to add:
    1) buyer’s guide:
    - when should consumers upgrade from previous versions of same brand or when to switch from one brand to another
    - considerations for switching from one brand to another
    - workarounds as every cam brand has some things we don’t like and/or affects our use cases, including what the product is intended for
    …to name a few!
    A couple things I would like to add to your video contents are:
    1) pricing:
    - base cam only
    - includes accessories
    - consistent drive price or not from my one gen to another. For example, no one mentions DJI kept price low on A1, increased it significantly on A2 at $529 and now lowered it, A3 is lower and now A4 is higher. Needs to consider when following the brand upgrades
    - overheating: this is thermal management and physics. When you have a small form factor and it is waterproof, there’s no place for heat dissipation except make the body out of magnesium alloy and/or use passive heat sinks or active cooling. Couple this with high frame rate and resolution settings and surely it will heat up.
    If you know this already, then when you shoot short form and with airflow, then no issue. If long form, turn off BT, GPS, wifi and screen resolution down that makes it heat up more. What Sony calls tripod mode and GP did in GP10.
    Or add a regular fan for airflow or attach a phone active cooling fan or lots of active cooling fans on Aliexpress.
    Overheating are common issues with all the mirrorless cams, small body, little passive heat sinks or no magnesium bodies and weatherproof so heat traps. Some of these cams have active cooling and it doesn’t overheat but is big
    Battery life. This comes to power management circuitry. Hopefully the way Apple does it with their custom SOCs and the power management is really good but not cheap and these action cams will move up to the $700-$1000+

      Dji action 4 still beats your new GPH12 in much longer runtime (overheating👀), lowlight, and quality (most of the time). I would pick up the action 4 today if I had to choose between the two because if you charge that much for an action camera, overheating should be the last thing I should worry about.

    First GoPro since the Hero 9 that I consider buying. Especially because of the 10 bit and flat profile, much better Dynamic Range in HDR and non-jitter for FPV (GoPro is the only one of the big 3 that produces jitter free image, when it gets really shaky... they really nailed that.) I also barely have my Hero9s crashing but I'm using the Sandisk Extreme Pro as well. That rumored 1" sensor for better low light would have suited it well tho ;)

      The argument that GoPro made that very few people use the stickers in the Quik mobile app is because they made it so hard to use. Had they not deleted the Desktop version, people would have used it much more. They made it cumbersome, and now they dropped it. At least they could add gps functionality to the Quik mobile app to add gps data to gopro video files later if needed. I still pre-ordered the 12 since I already have previous cameras to use for gps, the 10, 9, 7...etc. But if their claims of the improvements do not prove to be real, then I will probably return it. There are some scenarios such as scubadiving when I disabled gps anyway since it does not work under water and drains battery. But I cannot accept that in the diving case at 30m depth the gopro overheats in the water. They could at least design a diving case that transfers heat better from the gopro to the exterior if needed.

    • @michaelghens
      @michaelghens ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@octny GoPro forced users to use a mobile app. A cell phone just does not have the power of a desktop. I used the excellent Telemetry Overly software to put telemetry on my videos. I joke that it is the software that GoPro should have provided. (I hope not; GoPro made Dashware obsolete.)
      The Sticker use is a false metric since it was only good for very short videos.

      Im thinking of upgrading from osmoaction 1 to GoPro 11 or 12 out seems that the GoPro 12 has hdr Video which go pro 11 does not have. I was disappointed this summer on the underwater photos are and film from the osmo action1 even at 4k. GPS is not big deal for me. I never use it for vlogging. Battery life is much more important. Overheating you just need wind cold air to keep it cool. Still that 50 pound difference between the 11 and 12 is significant and the deals for the GoPro 11 is so much cheaper and better.

    I thought the Falcam DJI adapter mount was going to be the perfect quick release for me, but it rattles like crazy on a bike mount (under the outfront mount). And in my experience at least, it also only works with DJI Action 2 mounts, not the slightly modified DJI Action 3/4 mounts that have an additional rubber piece to prevent rattle. Also, one of the provided screws that you need to use because it's a different depth than the GP stock ones stripped a hole in my GP11. Just for people's full awareness.

    • @Dcrainmaker
      @Dcrainmaker  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmm, interesting. How old is your adapter? There's two versions of it now, and I got mine a week or two ago. I used/showed it with an Action 4 mount in the video, and it snaps in. The rattle it seems like I need to crank down the GoPro finger mount side a bit more with a screwdriver, but do wish the tolerances were better there.

    • @jhoff80
      @jhoff80 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Dcrainmaker Mine are about two weeks old. I've tried both versions, the 3-in-1 and also the 5-in-1 arca swiss compatible one.
      Using either one with my DJI Action 2 mounts (either the official mount, or a Smallrig branded one), the rattle is caused by play in the actual DJI mount clips themselves. I can rotate the GP 2-3 degrees in either direction when clipped in, so it's just bouncing around in the mount.
      Now that I check again, my Action 3/4 compatible mount is not an official one like I thought it was, but a Telesin-branded one. I suppose it's possible that's why the rubber piece in the middle prevents the camera from locking into place.

    Charging the batteries slower is a good thing. Rapidly charging batteries significantly reduces their lifespan. The slower charge time is probably intentional, because it's better overall, but they cannot talk about it publicly. Most of their customers wouldn't understand or believe them. During fast charging, a battery is pounded by power surges, which would normally burn it up if this peaking power level were constant. Nonetheless, it does do damage like death by a thousand paper cuts.

    • @Dcrainmaker
      @Dcrainmaker  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There’s lots of ways though to properly fast charge without meaningfully impacting battery life.

    • @HealthWyze
      @HealthWyze 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Dcrainmaker No. I'm an electronics engineer. There's no black magic for surging a battery and not causing damage, nor is there any kind of magic that will send more power without sending more power. Not only does it decrease the life expectancy, but also its ability to hold a charge will decrease each time. Batteries are electrochemical, so they will deteriorate no matter what (hardly solid state), but that process can definitely be accelerated.

      Grit your teeth and stick to the 9. The GP13 will be the new major release (they change things every 4 cycles) and best to go for that.
      Of course, if your 9 is not working or anything then go for the 12.

      @@anups7958 but waiting for the major update (GP13) could also mean that the battery will change. This is why I bought a GP8 instead of a 9 because I had a bunch of batteries and charger from my 7. Had I moved to the 9 I would have had to buy all new batteries. Just something to consider. I believe the 12 still uses the same batteries as the 9, 10, and 11.

It would be very useful if you could make a short video what attachments do you use to put the GoPro 12 on the bike’s handlebar and can you turn it side ways while riding if there is a nice scenery there and also behind the saddle what attachments do you use and also how you operate them in both position on long rides! As capture mode will not work behind the saddle and the voice command as far as I know cannot turn the GoPro 12 on! I think that would be a good video especially for people new to GoPro. Thanks! After testing with my hero 11 I notice couple of things. The 8:7 view that everybody talks so much, you can only shoot in WIDE. In order to get a Superview or Hyperview you need to import the footage in your phone(no windows app yet) and choose lens and then export again the video but that is creating a video of lower quality. If you try to crop the footage in Davinci you will not get the same view. GoPro is using a special method that is pulling the sides somehow. Yes it is useful in 9:16 crop but that is it. And no shortcut to turn front screen on or even to be able to save a preset that has front screen on. Why when you are in the main screen and press power button twice for example to be able to turn on and off front screen. You have to go in the settings and press screen lock and then choose what view you want and then press again to exit. WOW!

      Hey man, I use my Osmo 4 as a dashcam and in 4k50 the longest I recorded so far was 4 hours. I am testing the camera at the moment sitting on my table. It's been 5+ hours and it is still recording. After 90 minutes the camera gives a warning that it overheated but goes on recording. I also tested the camera in 4k25 and it went for 7+ hours with no warning of overheating.
      Keep in mind that I have a Chinese version (it supports all languages out of the box). I have heard that in Europe, for example, there are regulations that when the camera reaches the certain temperature it must turn off. As a former GoPro user (the GoPro overheated as a dashcam in 20 minutes) I recommend you going with DJI. My experience with DJI is much more better.

      Yeah, for dashcam type scenarios, you'd either have to lower the res/FPS on the GoPro depending on temp, or...well..yeah, that's it. The Action 3 or 4 is better suited for that scenario. Again, it really does depend on what temp you're talking, and if there's direct sunlight on it. But my guess is that both are better suited with the DJI cam.

    GoPro has always been a bit vague about external power with a battery. Only being familiar with the Hero 6/7 Black, using an external power source that was "Smart", GoPro would charge the battery while recording, then tell the smart external source to turn off, leaving you with a max (with a dead battery) 2 hours or so, one hour while recording while the battery charged and then one hour for the battery to run down. You had to either remove the battery and use an external source to record non-stop, or stop every two hours to shut the GoPro down and restart.
    With the USB pass thru door on the 12 Black, do you know if the GoPro 12 Black runs forever with the battery in and an external power source, or does it act like the Hero 6/7 Black?
