Awesome video as always. DJI Action 4 for me when im filming stuff for quality. Go3 and when i just want to film simply and not have a big camera
Definitely the best breakdown I've seen on different action cams. I'm mostly looking to record my travels throughout the world. I am looking to record historical sites, beaches, hotels, ancient ruins, etc... etc... Based on what. you are saying in your video it sounds like my focus should be on image quality and perhaps as much field of view as I possibly can get without sacrificing that quality. I should also say that I am a beginner at this so I am also looking for ease of use and ease of editing/uploading to youtube for the most part.
Osmo action 4 is the one I would be getting for my YT vids. Much better low light than the gopro (currently using an 11)
get the ace pro if you can spare the extra money. it's got ai noise reduction and is noticeably better at night than the action 4, (there are videos) and if you want it can do 8k (although you should not do that at night) also a flip screen for vlogging (DONT USE IT FOR ACTION, i'm not sure how durable it it.)

I honestly think the Osmo Action 4 is still the best action camera for the best price, it has a VERY wide camera angle (much wider than the gopro and ace pro) and also records crips 4k 120fps with insane stabilisation, it also has the same sensor size as the ace pro. It also very easily mounts vertical and horizontal, the mounting system is great!

I agree the osmo is sick, but the gopro with the max lens seems like the dream, similar to the osmo in a ton of ways but with the lens I believe it has a wider field of view and just as good stabilization, you can also film vertical footage without rotating the camera which seems great or film in 4:3 where you can crop it to get whatever format you want and still get a wide field of view with the original 177 degrees with the max lens.
Totally agree. After 3 replaced hero 11s the 4th is now dying. Never had an issue with the action 4. Just rock solid performance, battery life and quality
What I need:
Replicable lens cover.
handle 30C and and winter use so down to -15C where I live, only a few days of that, but still, -10C usually for most of the coldest parts of the winter, but north in Norway it can be -20C or colder.
No distortion lens or in body correction that works well, eliminating the need to swap lenses. I'm not sure on the current cameras yet. Maybe linear mode on Hero 12 is good enough, it looked promising, but hard to tell before I try my self.
Good low light performance.
I can't use my Hero 7 Black in the winter much as the batteries get drained in seconds even in -1C. At least my A7 IV can handle some cold. But That's not an action cam.

It would be cool to see a min-max style video, where you take your most ideal camera set up, make a video with it, then repeat the same or similar angles with a budget option to really see what compromises exist when making content. Think Ace pro/X3 vs Go3. P.s., more Petey cameos

Good info. I mostly stick with GoPros. I have tried a few others, including Insta360 cameras, and I agree....type is far more important than brand.

go pro can't handle summer time, 2 GP 8 new, lockup dont turning on, 850 lost in 6 month. no more, utube brave 7, xtu 2 brought that, high contrast as Gp 8 more than osmo 4 or Gp 12 . that when backward

Bird ❤ Have you seen the horizontal cages for the insta x3? I just bought one that lets you mount it this way, where the lens are perfectly centered to your chest mount. It also lets you mount an external mic such as the rode WG2. (somewhat awkwardly). On the other hand, related to lens protection you can also find some glass lens covers that will degrade your image in such a low ammount that is barely noticeable.
Can you add a wireless mic to this cameras?
Hero 12 has been amazing but x3 is definitely the best 360 cam
Hard disagree. Watching videos on gopro vs folks using x3's, it just looks worse.

As always a great video that was very informative. Always like it when people point out the negatives in the cameras as well. Just means it's a more trust worthy review! Was going to ask about a horizontal mount for the X3 but looks like they do exist! The audio isn't really an issue for me and would much prefer a wider FOV.
For me insta360 x3 is the best and easy to edit.for helmet or chest just wear horizontal mount for much better

Insta 360 x3 & new Ace Pro are cool cameras, but...
360 lenses are so easy to scratch. Unfortunately, I'm not an influencer. I will not get a new one for free 🤷🏻♂
Ace Pro is too fragile because it's flip screen. and it's soooooo heavy!
GoPro covers lens scratches with the subscription, they list a replacement cost but both times I submitted lens scratch claims my Max was replaced for free.
Seems like just an unfortunate reality of 360 cameras for now, I would love a user replaceable lens because the lens protectors completely ruin the quality.
I'm looking for a camere for skiing not for bikes. You should have mentioned it in the title. Also nothing about the price.

Did you fall out with the guys at GoPro or something? It is great there is more competition, but a video about action cameras that doesn’t mention GoPro feels a bit like someone is paying you, and feels like maybe your advice is biased.

Insta 360 is paying him. No pb with that but this is a clickbait for sure. He should have mentioned from the start or include all big brands and make an objective comparison as none are perfect 😊
He literally says it at the beginning on the screen "he personally uses insta360" so obv sponsored by them. But it is still a very objective video, he isnt promoting insta360, just the general idea of a single lens and a duo lens, small or big camera.
@@AnDre-yu4poyou are missing the context of years of him telling us how great GoPros are. TBH, I may replace my GoPro with a DJI next time around as the subjective reviews released recently do show some great benefits.

I have been doing MTB videos myself for three years now, always been using GoPros.
But I'm considering a 360 camera, as I need to export for 16:9, AND 9:16.
I would be very interested to see your process of working with raw 360 footage. Including if you edit the footage in Insta's own software first, and then into Premiere Pro or DaVinci.
I'm a bit concerned with the extra work included in reframing the 360 footage.

Insta360 really maxed out their sale oriented products, like easy to scratch the lenses, which leads to extended safety guarantee service and ofcourse the extra expensive original gears, which easily substitued by the same third party accesories. And with the cost of having a tricky video quality. You really need to understand the cam setting to get the result you want or else just crappy footages. 🤦🏻♂️

Same question here - apparently the go3 comes with a visor mount. I’ve read somewhere that it tends to come loose on rough trails though. So I’m wondering if there’s another 3rd party mount that maybe doesn’t fall off so easily.

Could you do a bit of one rs review? Some people complain about colors and details its able to capture compared to even older GoPro, like 9 or 10. I wonder how a pro would rate it.

The hard part is to do anything with the stuff that you filmed. Unless you have an expensive MAC computer or a new iphone you can't even use 4k anyway. So put 2k in your budget for that.

I am on my 3rd hero 11 and it is now acting up again and will brick itself like the last ones did. My action 4 has been used weekly for hours and has never given me one issue and blows the GoPros away with ease of use. Never again GoPro

mate i love my one rs because of its modularity and all the features, i would always choose either dji or insta because they are far better and plus that they never overheated or froze even in freezing and over 40°C temperatures
Just get a GoPro max, anyone suggesting an insta360 has been paid to do it
I have both and I can tell you that the image quality and software is miles better on the X3, I haven't used the MAX since the X2 was out... if you had both you would understand what I mean
@@HarschTier2 I’ve had both as well and the max looks and sounds better straight from the camera every time. The software takes two clicks to reframe so I’m not sure what could get easier for traditional pov reframing. Plus it’s less expensive and the camera replacement for scratched lenses with the GoPro subscription has been a savior
I have both and can say that anyone saying what you just said, has never used an X3 😂 Soooooo much better. Like objectively better. In literally every single way.
@@TheLoamRangerso why did you only cover insta360 products in this video? It’s “sooooo much”better because you’re paid to say so. I’ve owned an x2 and x3 and went back to the max both times after a few months. The audio is still worse on the x3 and was completely useless on prior generations - the wind noise felt like your ears were going to bleed. I found the colors looked better in most common lighting scenarios on the GoPro and I find the form factor to be far less obtrusive.
Professionally the classic GoPro and even DJI action cameras are consistently chosen for higher end productions for the 10bit color depth. I’ve actually never even worked with someone using an insta360 for professional level fpv drone. Even the brand new ace pro is still crippled by 8bit color. There are several great action cameras, and I’ll keep trying them all until I find a proper upgrade. I hoped the x3 was going to be that, but unfortunately it wasn’t “objectively better in literally every single way” and claiming that is delusional.
360 lens protectors ruin the footage. Sold my x3 for the action 4 and never looked back
What do or can you do to get the max resolution on the X3 after reframing? Since it drops to 1080 after a reframe.
