Ordered my OA4, I’m not interested in GoPro 12 due to the buggy nature of their products. Of course the new GoPro will have some improvements over the OA4 but the issues with reliability will continue. DJI products just seem easier to use and more intuitive.
This is the biggest feedback I always bring to GoPro. I’m stoked that they’ve prioritized it in the 11 and made the most stable GoPro so far, but there’s still more work to do on that from to make a rock solid GoPro. Hoping we see more of that in the future!
Just ordered the refurbished Action 4 and glad I waited till the Gopro 12 came out. Most of my friends like their Hero 11 over the Hero 12. I already have most Action 2 accessories and the the DJI Action 4 can be picked up on DJI's website for $239 and I got the 2 year extended for only $39. No brainer for my case use. Great comparison video!! Thanks
I've had the GoPro 11 since release, and filmed a ton of TH-cam videos with it. That being said, I honestly thought the camera on the right was the GoPro. I generally get a more contrasty image with mine like the video on the right.
22:31 Look at the cloud in the back. What difference in sharpness and image. But having a Hero 8 today, I would try DJI for my next camera. The GoPro reset is really annoying.
Do the current GoPro owners not use buckle mounts? I have have not removed my bite mount from my GoPro in forever. It goes from the suction cup to my 3 way in two clicks. Why would any one take the thumb screw off on buckle mount then remount it to another buckle mount?
I fell in love with the Action 1 and am currently on an Action 3. I must say - to me - the image of DJIs cameras just looks way more pleasant. I am just not a fan of extreme saturation and sharpness in general, I like soft contrast and pleasant colors, which is why I will always prefer Osmo Action. Thanks for the great comparison.
hello there @goldentapes, i'm sorry for disturbing your time but may i ask about your experience using Osmo Action ? I'm new in "action cam world" cause i want to buy this action camera to shoot a motorcycle ride vlogging and music cover. I stumble across some video who use DJI Osmo Cam and they upload in Tiktok or Instagram but the quality is bad (?) But in youtube the quality of video is good ? I mean like blurry or it seems like 360p or 480p video but they record it at 4K60FPS. Do that kind of issues happend to you or it's about resolution setting in the camera when recording ? Also do you think Osmo Cam 3 and 4 have a lot of difference cause i'm in quite tight budget so i'm trying to choose the right option-
@@itzdylans I have never experienced blurry or bad quality footage. Maybe it's the compression that happens when uploading to TikTok? If you're tight on budget I would recommend the 3, since it holds up very well even with the 4 out. I'm gonna get the 4 some day when my budget allows it but until then I'm happy with action 3.
Thanks David, great and thorough review, as always 😀 I see a real difference in image quality though, at least on TH-cam. At 20:10 in your video for example, the clouds behind you are sharp as expected with the GoPro and all blurred and mushy with the Action 4. Looks like a deal breaker for me with the Action 4. Can you confirm or deny that looking at the real footage you shot?
On the computer, the image between the two looks almost identical. You could probably argue small details one way or the other, but without looking at them side by side, it would be impossible to guess which is which👍
Did anyone else notice the weird whisper at like 11:23 when he was talking about the camera(s) picking up his voice vs the car? It almost sounded like it said vague. I know it this has nothing to do with the cameras but it just caught me off guard to the point that I had to listen to is for a few times to make sure I was hearing it.
Thanks David, I have to say we love your channel. I trust your judgement and have ordered a dji action 4 as we are going on an ATV ride up a mountain and the kit I use would not be conducive to me staying on said vehicle. Do your tees ship to Portugal?
My GoPro 11 is working great along with the mod kit and battery mount. But, the DJI is looking really nice. Really like the app monitoring in video recording on the DJI.
Now Danny.. did you turn the GPS off on the GoPro? Also, did you drop the image stabilization to ON while running the GoPro's video mode (on the pull down menu) to EXTENDED? I know you're a camera buff but we don't always think of these things. GoPro's processor does a lot of work. More then DJI's processor so obviously it will run through the battery faster on top of making GPX files if the GPS is ON when you might not need telemetry data. Also the GOPRO's battery is likely older and have more miles on it then that Action 4 so we have to account for that also. I can go on and on but you get the just of it. After I got over my honeymoon stage of the DJI I realized I dont use it as much as I use my insta360 RS 1" and my hero 11 with the polarpro CPL filter. I don't even look for my DJI cam really anymore unless I want to go extreme minimalistic and don't want to carry any extra batteries. I see the Hero 12 blowing it all out of the park and I can't wait.
These were both brand new batteries with GPS turned off on the GoPro. All other settings were set to default, so they should be running about the same as far as processor power. Also, the GoPro was set to 4K in all of these tests to run similar to the DJI. The timing makes sense though, DJI claims 160 mins out of their battery while GoPro only claims 120 mins out of theirs, so it's quite the difference between the two. But I'm very much with you that I'm hoping the GoPro Hero 12 is something incredible! And then the DJI Osmo Action 5 is incredible and back and forth until we have the most insane action cameras ever🙌
@@DavidManningvlog goootcha. I watch all of your videos so I should have known you would have adjusted the settings accordingly. I just didn't know if you were going with the "out of the box" settings or if you've went on and dug alittle deeper to make sure the GoPro at a minimum didn't have the GPS set to ON. I am excited for that Hero 12. I was also surprised you had issues with freezing. I've never had my Hero 11 do any freezing or needing to reset it with the typical battery removal. However.... As wild as this may sound, since.its release, I e had my Action 3 freeze four times now since I've had it. I was like....wtf you're doing GoPro things now??? It hasnt been consistent but I've had times where my action 3 froze and I had to remove the batter and put it back in. Let's run our hands together for that Hero 12. GoPro has been forced to at least address battery life/fast charging and a better sensor
Now i have the dji OA4, my gopro fan boy days are over. From the mounting system that allows you to remove the battery while in its case compared to the gopro media mod. Battery time is better Imagine is crisp and bright after colour grading beating gopro. The only thing about the gopro is the lens fitting and the available lenses ie anamorphic and nd/cpl filters
I thought the GoPro footage seemed better and the DJI audio was better. I have the GoPro and can't comprehend how they have same issues they have had since the start. Insanely poor business model. It is so good seeing DJI pushing the boundaries. I love the DJI mounts, battery life, touchscreens and app features. We all stand to benefit from the advances in technology both brands are making, but I won't be getting any more GoPros.
It definitely goes to show you that sensor size is not as important as everybody makes it out to be because the GoPro definitely has better picture quality than the DJI. And as far as low light is concerned, neither camera is a low light camera. Great video
Difference here is the signal processing. GoPro have had a decade’s head start extracting every drop of image quality from their action cam sensors vs DJI
At 8:23, are you sure you didn't mix up the audio's of the cameras? GoPro seems to have a "fuller" sound on the low end (I think they have their high pass filter set lower than DJI) and DJI seems to cut low frequencies higher than the GoPro, therefore being thinner sounding but more detailed on the high end. I could swear you mixed the audio's there :)
before u said it, I was in love with the camera A .. was the go pro, colors looks more natural... Im excited to see what gopro 12 will have and compare them again.
The Action 4 has a bit of an advantage in low light (I do a lot of night driving videos) but the Hero 11 outshines the Action 4 with cinematic realism. And as for mount problems, I fixed that issue years ago with the Snap Mount System. I am anxiously waiting for the Hero 12, too. Good comparison, though.
I am wondering how good that DJI mount performs when surfing waves of consequence. It seems to me like a heavy wave or heavy wipeout might rip it off! what do you think?
I’d love to hear that answer. I ride a no suspension trike and even though I had extra strapping on the go pro, it went flying on the rough VA Creeper trail. Additionally the screws on go pro keep working loose even when tightened down snug.
@@algar2003Yeah but honestly in my opinion the action 4 is just better. Sure you can argue that the quality and features will be better on the GoPro hero 12 but really how often do you use them? For me the Actions reliability, ease of use, and good quality video is worth more than any of the new rumored features. The Action just does everything an action camera needs to do without the unnecessary features and problems.
Brand new batteries on both for any sort of side by side. Settings the same as well. The math works out, DJI claims 160mins out of their batteries and GoPro claims 120mins, so a 40 min difference
If photo resolution matters, the Hero 11/Hero 10 are a better option with the higher resolution and taller sensor. Also by shooting 5.3K video you can extract high resolution still frames about 16 megapixels. I came face to face with a sandtiger shark in clear water, while spearfishing in NY. I was happy I was recording 5.3K, so I got also decent stills when it made a U turn in front of me. GoPro has also burst mode that captures 3 - 5 shots in a second, which is useful when photographing sea life. The GoPro is reliable to me. Never overheats (but shoot mostly 1 min clips). Rarely freezes. No need to remove the battery to restart it. Just hold the power button 10 seconds or so then press again. I can do it in the ocean. Otherwise the Action 4 is appealing with better user interface, quick menu button, longer battery life. But I heard it has no burst mode. Also even if it is water resistant to 18 meters below the surface, I prefer the beefier single door of the GoPro, one single point of failure, rather than the 2 doors than the DJI. Even if better water resistance on spec, the battery door seal of the GoPro seems to be better designed. Customer service of GoPro seems also better. I have the Action 2, which I rarely use, as in cold water it turns itself off, the field of view is too wide, and storage/battery life are not so good. I will wait for the Hero 12 and see if it has a larger sensor. Otherwise the Action 4 could be good for low light/murky water.
Really appreciate your opinion and how you present information. You can tell that you’re not biased and I like that neither sponsored this video in any way. FYI. They sell a mount for the GoPro that you can use the dji mounting system and GoPros system at the same time. Can’t wait to see the 12 review. Thanks again.
The image quality of the GP is better. Better color accuracy to me and image detail is better. I've had 4 GP's over the years (the last one being the 10) and I have always had issues with them. If not glitching out, they would overheat. I have never had any issues with the A3 but I am thinking of selling my A3 and buying the A4.
Excellent comparison review of two top-notch, action cameras. GoPro, DJI, Insta360 are all dubyas...I think action cameras differentiators now are each brands eco-system and 3rd party add-ons. In additional to your review, very cool creativity in how you plan out your video & edit all the footage.
Thanks man, I appreciate that! And I'm totally with you that when I'm looking at image quality and audio, they're pretty much a tie. They're both so dang good! But when you look at the mounting systems, battery life, and reliability, it's easy to pick the DJI out of the two
@@DavidManningvlogthanks so much. I do like the go pro Quik Ap for rough edit of clips and cloud storage, but when there’s a technical problem, tech support on quik ap is nonexistent!!! Does DJI have something to compete with that? and if so please share your opinion of it. Really put out with failing batteries, quirks, and zero tech support with current go pro.
Nice comparison. I’m waiting but most likely definitely jumping on the OA4 and ditching GoPro. That said, on the straight out of camera images they’re close but the edge goes to GoPro. The real comparison that I’d suggest you do is the 10-bit DLogM vs GoPro’s version and see who captures the most detail. My guess is that they’re essentially the same. So that leaves other things that DJI wins in like mounting system, external audio connectivity via USB-C (no need for an adapter or media mod), timecode support without the need for “lab” firmware and a media mod, etc.
Thanks for comparison. Does your Action 4 have any focus issues like previous A3 ? A lot of info in web were people rotate A3 lens physically to get right focus. What about Action 4?
I have the gopro 7, 8, 9, 10 & 11 never had any of them freeze up on me..... I still have the 1st osmo action works great same as my dji pocket 1. I was a bit put off by the action 2 & 3, so I'll hold off on the action 4 and see what the Gopro 12 brings to the table.
I am looking to get an action camera. It appears that the DJI 4 is on backorder. Would getting the DJI Action 3 be a good way to go for now? Looking at the Adventure Combo for the 3
Both are close enough in image quality. In some cases I prefered the GP11 in other cases it didnt matter. I was seeing more detail in the clouds in the GP11 in the closing, I actually do like the slightly wider FOV of the OA4. I dont think if you have 1 or the other you would be able to tell without side by side. But as you mentioned and Ive been saying it since the OA4 came out, its the wrong comparison since GP12 is coming but i get it. The old GP11 is all there is right now. Content needs to be made to sell the OA4. Great video though😊
I'm totally with you Chris! I can't imagine buying an Osmo Action 4 right now if you could wait to at least see what GoPro has coming out. I don't think you can go wrong either way, but for now in my opinion of these two cameras, the Osmo Action 4 has a very healthy lead in that I know when I hit record, it's going to record👍
Chris I agree with you. I noticed on this video and another video I watched that the DJI lost detail in the background a lot and kept annoying me. I don’t either so I’m not married to either but I’m leaning towards the GoPro but DJI does have a few nice features but I can’t understand all these TH-camrs saying go for DJI especially with these background focus issues. I am starting to question there eyes or makes me wonder something else possibly hmm
David, has the Mimo app worked with the A4? I cannot get it to work with the A3 for the life of me. Tried the hack from a YT video, worked for a bit and once again it doesn’t work.
Great video David, the side by sides are to close to call. Sometimes the Go-Pro looks better in more brighter conditions and the DJI looks better in some darker conditions like when you were sitting at the end with the big head behind you, you could see more detail with the DJI compared to the Go-Pro but you could see more details in the clouds with the Go-Pro. Tough one but I do love the mounting system for the DJI as it is so much quicker than the Go-Pro 100%. If I had to buy one tomorrow (if I had the cash) I would go for the DJI but for anyone who wants a action camera, like you I would say wait until the Go-Pro 12 comes out. I am sure it will be good. Carnt wait for the next video David.
I tried GoPro 10 and sold it just after a month of use. If you watch your videos on smartphone then it does not really matter but once I put my GoPro clips on TV all footage was grainy and its with lowest sharpenning settings, lowering resolution helped a tiny bit but still that grainy image was visible. Tried editing but couldn't get rid of it by not loosing picture quality. Whats weird though that all my videos taken in very bright day.
Are the 4k 24fps file sizes still gigantic on the Action 4? With the Hero 11 I can get almost 11 hours of recording time with medium bit rate etc. when I had the action 3 for a day it created just insane amount of files that really reduced recording time. So I need the long recording time while kayak fishing as I just let the camera record continuously . The action 3 with it's lower recording time with 256gb sd cards and the mushy focus was a big NO LOL
i like the warmer colors of the gopro but i hate how it distorts the body in selfie. i feel like you have to buy both and buy that double mount and turn the action 4 toward you and have gopro face forward. and then edit ur video and use the action 4 footage of selfie.
Thanks for giving the info that gopro still has the freezing events (that requiring the battery out-in solution). Most Yubers avoid it or say it is gone in 10, 11... It is the main reason I stayed away in recent years.
Great side-by-side! For me the it will be the DJI moving forward. My GoPro Hero 11 (with the Enduro) batteries just cannot handle the cold at all. I'm a landscape photographer and on multiple cold weather outings earlier this year, the GoPro couldn't even stay on to record video. Ended up doing most of my Colorado trip vlog off the iPhone because the GoPro didn't last past the first photo stop on the hike. Meanwhile, a DJI Action 1 (borrowed) that I had with me for b-roll ran the whole time. None of the video specs or quality matter if the camera can't actually stay running. So next cam will be the DJI. Thanks for the video! Well done as always!
I put the decal on my large water bottle people ask me about it. being older the audio sounds the same the color I think is better on the go pro, but the better battery life is nice and the glitch where you could lose what you have taken and have to stop and do a reset. I don't need either right now, so I'll wait. Now I have to go check the shirts.
Thanks for the review and comparison!! Your videos have been very helpful in helping me make a decision for my first action cam :) just waiting for your Hero 12 review! (Wonder if you’re probably already working on it right now under an NDA haha :P) I’m a little tripped out because I noticed a few times where you’re pointing at the camera to explain either one, you point to the DJI when explaining the GoPro and then you point at the GoPro to describe the DJI, eg. 10:20 and 15:35 mark :D Though it is obvious that the DJI has a wider fov, and there’s lot more detail in the shadows. It almost looks like the GoPro was set on HDR as the details in the clouds almost looks like some post work done to bring out the clarity whilst the DJI has significantly less clarity of detail. Was this footage straight out of the camera, or with some WB work done to make it more comparable??
Yeah, the way he points at the cameras were a little confusing. And that’s because the Hero 12 is actually mounted on the right, Dji on the left. But they way he edited the video, he made the Hero 12 footage on the left side and the Dji on the right side.
right off the rip I preferred the A camera. Assuming both were un-edited in any way, the A camera seemed to pop and had more color saturation overall. Although the magnetic mounts on the DJI are sweet.
Agreed the colors and pop look better but that's the default color settings in gopro. For some people it can be a little artificial. you can adjust to the same look for the Action 4.
I was very close to purchasing the GP 11 until I read issues like over heating among others. Consumers need to be beware of reviews these days because in my opinion they can more like a commercial 😢. Thanks for your review, im more impressed ❤
Hi David, Love your content - keep it up. I bought a Hero11 and returned it within the 30 day period as it was buggy. I'm staying with my Hero9 until the H12 details are released. It doesn't sound promising either. If it's bad I'll buy the DJI 4. Question - what's your thoughts about the security of the DJI vs the Hero given various government's concerns about DJI as a company? Cheers and keep up the good work.
At 14:41 he says the “The go pro hero 11 is great! The reliability is great! He’s only had to reset it 4-5 times in the year he’s had it”. That’s not great and that’s not what I want to hear about a $500 action camera. My go pros 7 and 8 are terrible! Especially the 8 I’ve about chucked it in the river after having to reset it 3 times alone today.
The audio on the Action 4 definitely sounds better, but I think the picture looks better on the GoPro. Since the picture is what matters more on an action camera, I would go with GoPro. I don't see myself needing to record two hours of 4K or even 5.3K video, so I don't think the shorter battery life or overheating will be that much of an issue.
I know this is completely off topic but I have seen 2 creators (1 with the GoPro Max and 1 with the Insta360 X 3) do this and wondering how it is done. They use their 360 camera but allow the viewer to pick the view they want to use. I will mention the creators if you want but neither mentioned how they were able to do that.
That's just uploading the 360 file as the footage. You can take 360 cameras and reframe them to a normal video file or export the 360 footage so viewers can look around while viewing the video. It's a pretty cool trick!
Thanks for another great video. I am based in Australia, and I am seriously considering a DJI as an upgrade to my current Hero 8. I use the camera to capture rides on my Can-Am Spyder and regularly lose footage due to the gopro fail. Can you give any advice about using a Purple Panda mic with the DJI. Thanks . Seve.
Looks like you should be able to get a TRRS->USB-C cable and connect it that way. Or use the TRRS-TRS adapter with something like the Boya BY-K4. One problem you might have is the mic being too load, even with the gain turned all the way down in camera. I think Motofeelz and Wheelie Good TV have videos about them.
This is not the first comparison video i saw and i noticed that on Action 4 your helmet is so narrower than go pro and this present in all comperisation videos.
This was an awesome side by side... I am currently using Gopro 8 & 10 and have the DJI Pocket 2.... waiting like you said to see what GP does with it's next release. The GP in your video did look better. I was hoping A was gonna be the DJI..lol. Thank You
The gopro is just "warmer" in there colors. The DJI is more like reality. But, like with the "sound", people prefers loud base, with images people prefer warmer colors. But it so easy to correct that when editing. So, that's why I perchased a DJI A4 3 days ago! Good luck in your choice.
@@frankygoestocanada I am still seriously considering it as an extra and it would be nice to try it out. I do have more issues than I like with the GoPro freezing and other hiccups
GoPro picks up sky/cloud details better. Also am I seeing both cameras stutter a bit during pans? More apparent on the action 4 - is this from their built in stabilization algo’s? Or just the shutter speed? It’s like 2-3 times per second
Be back in a month when we can compare both NEW cameras. But I do love the new magnetic mounting system. I’ve owned several GoPros and luckily never had an issue. Ever. No resets or lost footage. But I lost a lot of love for GoPro when they REMOVED the Apple Watch app that allowed me to see what the camera was seeing on my watch. Just trying to sell more remotes I guess.
First, I must say I don't have a gopro to compare (except that I own two gopros, but there are like first editions, like 10 years ago, without screens and very complicated to remember how to use it when you needed it (that's why I've almost never used them)). But now, I'm going Hawaï, and I wanted to have a reliable good camera! So I've been watching youtube videos like yours and boy, I don't regret having bought an action 4 from DJI! (3 days ago) Works flawlessly! Eaaaaaasy to understand! But your video made me confortable with my choice! Thanks dude and continu your great work! 😊
I have the DJI o3.. I haven't surfed with it yet. I didn't like with my GOpros, the waves would mess up my settings on the screen.. do you have any issues while surfing with DJI 0sm3 or 0sm4? 2nd Q: can I use osmo 3 and 4 camera on the same DJI mimo app?
Straight out of the camera, the Go Pro looks better. If you’re going to edit your videos then that probably doesn’t matter. However, if you’re going to shoot and use that footage, then the Go Pro looks like a winner (minus any reliability concerns, which I personally haven’t had on my Go Pro).
I would have liked more comments on the distortion of the images on the left camera and what had happened there when you were talking about the house. Seems it must have been the hero 11
Hey David thank you so much for making this video! I had a quick question. Does the action 4 have a way to mark the clip while your recording? Also how user friendly is the action 4 app?
You sold Action 4 to me, but as you said GP12 is on the way so let's wait and see. I hope that GP12 price won't go sky high 👀 So far my iphone7 does the job as a Vlogging cam 😂
With all the issues that have persisted with GoPro, it's obvious they've been sitting on their laurels for far too long. You make excellent points when you discussed recommending an action cam to a friend. If paying a premium price but it's not reliable then it's like buying a cheap Chinese made knock-off. Always enjoy your content.
Ordered my OA4, I’m not interested in GoPro 12 due to the buggy nature of their products. Of course the new GoPro will have some improvements over the OA4 but the issues with reliability will continue. DJI products just seem easier to use and more intuitive.

I'm pleased with my Action 4, biggest reason is it actually works unlike GoPro's that freeze just too often.

Great job on the video David! Thanks for making it. The ability to hook in the wireless mics is the killer app for the DJI.

Yeah, I can see higher detail in the go pro clouds too. However, you can see more detail on David's body in the Action 4. Idk 😂
Not even close on image quality. I'm watching on a computer and there is a definite GoPro advantage. I'm not even sure how anyone could argue that.
Hahaha! That's the sound of the pole I'm using extending. I reach up and extend it out and the mics picked up the noise🤣
LOL well that solves that.. or maybe it is a haunted pole 🤣
I like the color on the GoPro but like the wider field of view and battery life on Action4.
Battery time is better
Imagine is crisp and bright after colour grading beating gopro.
The only thing about the gopro is the lens fitting and the available lenses ie anamorphic and nd/cpl filters
You have a chapter on Physical features but I didn't see where the USB port is or where the memory card goes or how these two areas are waterproofed.
@@axelmogr thank you 🙏
At 8:23, are you sure you didn't mix up the audio's of the cameras? GoPro seems to have a "fuller" sound on the low end (I think they have their high pass filter set lower than DJI) and DJI seems to cut low frequencies higher than the GoPro, therefore being thinner sounding but more detailed on the high end. I could swear you mixed the audio's there :)
Great vid ! What is the extension pole you are using ? Very cool 😎. Thx 🙏
before u said it, I was in love with the camera A .. was the go pro, colors looks more natural... Im excited to see what gopro 12 will have and compare them again.
Noticed the same
Wonderful video maybe I missed it but what setting is the GoPro on the GoPro color flat or neutral
Hi Milton, what is the snap mount system you mention above? Thanks
Already ordered my OA4 after having a GoPro hero 11. You just can’t beat the Action 4 batteries in the cold for snowboarding.
Gopro 12 is coming in September.
@@SethJ-2525 you are right. I like DJI action 4 magnetic mounting system.
Was the GoPro battery totally new like the Action 4? Otherwise its hard to compare if you used the GoPro one 50 times before.
Can you plug in the Action 4 and retrieve video, or do you have to pull the little card?
Have you ever done a plugged in test of the action 3 or 4 and recorded and see how long it lasts.
Excellent as usual!!! OA4 is clearly the choice...
Really appreciate your opinion and how you present information. You can tell that you’re not biased and I like that neither sponsored this video in any way.
FYI. They sell a mount for the GoPro that you can use the dji mounting system and GoPros system at the same time. Can’t wait to see the 12 review. Thanks again.
great video, thanks, I like the action sound quality but the gopro video quality. What is the orange chin mount that you used?
cheers
The image quality of the GP is better. Better color accuracy to me and image detail is better. I've had 4 GP's over the years (the last one being the 10) and I have always had issues with them. If not glitching out, they would overheat. I have never had any issues with the A3 but I am thinking of selling my A3 and buying the A4.
Yes! I’ve noted overheating with gopro
David thanks for the comparison video 👍👍
I have lots of GoPro mounting gear, sticks, clamps etc etc etc. Does the DJI magnetic mounts attach to GoPro gear?
Nice comparison. I’m waiting but most likely definitely jumping on the OA4 and ditching GoPro. That said, on the straight out of camera images they’re close but the edge goes to GoPro. The real comparison that I’d suggest you do is the 10-bit DLogM vs GoPro’s version and see who captures the most detail. My guess is that they’re essentially the same. So that leaves other things that DJI wins in like mounting system, external audio connectivity via USB-C (no need for an adapter or media mod), timecode support without the need for “lab” firmware and a media mod, etc.
David, You are so good at your job - these reviews pardoner. Excellent reviews always !!
Did you color grade this footage or record a flat profile? If not what settings did you use for the video. Great video!
Thanks for comparison. Does your Action 4 have any focus issues like previous A3 ? A lot of info in web were people rotate A3 lens physically to get right focus. What about Action 4?
Not from what I've seen on youtube. The minimum focus distance has increased form 30 to 40cm because of the bigger sensor though.
All GoPro freeze up, just keep using them. Had it on 3, Session 5, 7, 9, 11
Liar
nope never had any of my GoPros freeze on me.@@PierPeterVinylSound
Where did you buy those sunglasses, please?
Reliability is my main concern. I don’t want to lose my video of my trip. Also, would you be able to do a comparison video underwater?
Close enough in image quality??? Are you on crack, the DJI looked like a grey dystopia.
Hai,
Can I also use GoPro clamps with the DJI, for example GoPro wrist strap or official GoPro suction cup?
Thanks
In Exporting, do you use H.264 or H.265,?
Can I charge the osmo while it is recording video? Say for at home fixed in place scenarios.
Thank you for this opinion. Have you used the quik ap?
I am almost thinking now the action 4 has a soft focus issue
Hello man, how I can buy your t shirt? (Be a good human.) or Where did you buy it?
Hey, is it the same mount at GoProo and Dj ?
Really needed this to make a decision. Thanks
Can you make some tee's with pockets? Love the colors!
Thanks for the review and comparison!! Your videos have been very helpful in helping me make a decision for my first action cam :) just waiting for your Hero 12 review! (Wonder if you’re probably already working on it right now under an NDA haha :P)
I’m a little tripped out because I noticed a few times where you’re pointing at the camera to explain either one, you point to the DJI when explaining the GoPro and then you point at the GoPro to describe the DJI, eg. 10:20 and 15:35 mark :D
Though it is obvious that the DJI has a wider fov, and there’s lot more detail in the shadows.
I felt the same. I was shocked with the result
Agreed the colors and pop look better but that's the default color settings in gopro. For some people it can be a little artificial. you can adjust to the same look for the Action 4.
It seems like the DJI A4 needs an exposure adjustment in the settings as it does appear a little darker.
Thorough test! A4 looks similar to my Action2, have to be .3-1 EV overexposed to get easier to use SOOC footage/shadow detail.
Nice review... How is DJI Action 4 compared to Insta360 GO 3? TYVM
I was very close to purchasing the GP 11 until I read issues like over heating among others. Consumers need to be beware of reviews these days because in my opinion they can more like a commercial 😢. Thanks for your review, im more impressed ❤
I just returned my gp11 because front screen stopped working and it overheated
@@TheProCut17 Did you exchange it ?
@@davidpoo66 i returned it to Costco with no problem as it was less than 90 days when it malfunctioned thankfully they have a good return policy
Heyy David can u do a comparison video of insta x3 and Dji action 4
Hey David, does DJI have a cloud storage option like GoPro?
Hi David,
Love your content - keep it up.
Good question
At 14:41 he says the “The go pro hero 11 is great! The reliability is great! He’s only had to reset it 4-5 times in the year he’s had it”. That’s not great and that’s not what I want to hear about a $500 action camera. My go pros 7 and 8 are terrible! Especially the 8 I’ve about chucked it in the river after having to reset it 3 times alone today.
No discussion on low light, that’s the biggest change!
So who has the better app .. go pro or dji??
Why does DJI ask you to compare this year’s products with last year’s?
DJI didn't ask me for this one, this was all you guys in the comments of the Action 4 video asking for it👍
The audio on the Action 4 definitely sounds better, but I think the picture looks better on the GoPro.
@@DavidManningvlog Could you please show us a step by step video of this? I would really appreciate it.
What shutter speed did you use for this comparison David?
hi may I know your electric off road skate board brand and model? link for order? Tks heaps
The truth is, GoPro footage is always detailed and bright
This is not the first comparison video i saw and i noticed that on Action 4 your helmet is so narrower than go pro and this present in all comperisation videos.
Should I get the action 3 or 4? I'm just not sure if it is worth the extra money.
@@frankygoestocanadaI buy ac4 too
GoPro picks up sky/cloud details better.
Hi, does the Action 4 shoots in 360 or is there any 360 lenses available for it?Thanks 😁
Going on vacation early October, couldve got the GoPro11 bundle for $339 today..... or wait till September for the 12? Cuttin' too close I think...
Seems it must have been the hero 11
what editing software would you recommend for either camera? Is the format native from the camera or is there some trans-coding involved? thank you.
What do you think the cost of the new go pro 12 will be$ 399.99 or 499.99
Hey David thank you so much for making this video! I had a quick question. Does the action 4 have a way to mark the clip while your recording? Also how user friendly is the action 4 app?
As long as I had my GoPro I had not had any freezing issues over 1 months having it or over heating
The GoPro Hero 11 is for sure the most stable of any other GoPro in the past!
@@DavidManningvlog the hero 10 is what I got. I do want another GoPro but don't get the action 4 or wait for the hero 12 to come
You sold Action 4 to me, but as you said GP12 is on the way so let's wait and see.
