📝 Uniswap Overview 📝
Uniswap is a decentralised application or dApp that facilitates the onchain exchange of ERC20 tokens. It is more colloquially known as a decentralised exchange or a Dex. You control your keys and you do not have to rely on another third party to operate with honesty when facilitating a transaction.
Trading is all done through a Web 3.0 wallet like a Metamask or a ledger that connects through the browser. Your wallet will use the Uniswap smart contracts in order to interact with the Etheruem network and confirm the operations.
It's fully open source and last year they raised some seed funding from Paragigm ventures. Uniswap has seen an explosion in trading activity and volumes.
Uniswap just recently released version 2 of their protocol. This has a number of exciting features and improvements over the first iteration of the platform.
📈️ Uniswap Features 📈
Pricing at Uniswap works a bit differently in than on other exchanges. It comes down to three things:
- Liquidity provider fees (you will be charged a 0.3% fee)
- Slippage (amount by which the price will change)
- Price Impact (order is likely to move price)
These features will update the final price that you are likely to get on your trade but it is not *guaranteed*. You can set your max slippage tolerance and if the trade goes beyond this point then it will not be executed.
💻 Functionality 💻
You have three main functions at Uniswap. These are the swap, send and the Pool. When you are swapping you are making an exchange on chain between two different ERC20 tokens.
When you use the send, you can send someone else another ERC20 token that you do not hold. This conversion is done over at uniswap initially. Pool allows you to commit your own tokens to provide a liquidity pool for other traders to trade and you can take part in the trading fees (0.3% split between).
If you are going to be providing liqudity to the pool then you also have to have a bit of strategy as to how you do it. You will only want to be providing liquidity to those that token pairs that you expect a whole host of trading volume.
You can use the analytics website to get an idea of which pools need demand and which are already quite full. If you are going to swap and version 2 does not have the liquidity then you can still use version 1 as it is live for as long as Etheruem is.

With Uniswap version 2, their oracle design should be resistant to these type of flash loan attacks. They are looking to implement a time weighted oracle service that could make it harder to shift prices in a short period.
Flash swaps which have similar functionality to flash loans. These allow users to borrow as many ERC20 tokens as they want with no upfront cost and then use these tokens to do whatever they want. This is all as long as at the end of the transaction, they return the funds.
The real opportunity here is that in-between step where users can do whatever they want with the funds. So, if you see that there is a mispricing on some other protocol and you want to take advantage or "arbitrage" out that mispricing then you can do that.

why don't the other dex let you use your visa card to buy crypto from it ? It seems like in order for me to use a dex I have to purchase Cryptocurrency previously from a centralized exchange from the beginning , could you explain ? I keep watching videos on it but it dont make sense??? How can I buys from a dex using my wallet (cold storage) if I cannot add onto my cold storage with out using a centralized exchange in the first place doesn't that defits the purpose . Someone please explain
@@cpichili because once you start having to handle fiat, some entity needs to accept that fiat, hence a central body is required accept and process fiat. once you do that it's no longer decentralised and you have a heap of laws coming down on you.
this is something that a computer program (essentially what a dex is) cannot do.
@@Phyx1u5 so let's say I go to uniswap and I want to buy crypto , how do I go about it, after i connect my cold storage how do I add crypto to that wallet in order use uniswap. I have to use a centralized exchange ?
@@cpichili I don't mean to be rude but there are literally hundreds of videos telling you how to do it. but first you need to buy eth or some erc20 token from a centralized exchange then transfer it to your wallet. easiest wallet to use with uniswap is metamask

Hello Guy, your videos are not only educational but also inspiring. That led me to connect Uniswap with my metamask wallet and try a swap. I thought I would test-drive a quick swap between ETH and BAT. When I tried converting 0.001 ET to BAT I was given a gas fee of $11.05. I was also given the advice of trying V1. This time my gas fee was $5.21. Of course I rejected both transactions. So while the theory is very compelling and significant funds are in TVL, but such gas fees are a non-starter. Specially to support small uses case like tipping someone remote or providing a small supportive donation. Tell me what I am doing wrong. But as always, you materials are very appreciated. I was using Kyber until the fees started taking the piss and being jacked up. Now Uniswap is out of beta and looking all slick, i'm more comfortable using it, and the selection of coinage on there is mouth watering lol. Thanks for covering this topic mate.

Great video on Uniswap and with your added words feel ready have a deeper look at it. You might consider have a look at and hopefully make a video on the Vigor Protocol. It is much to wrap your head around and I followed since 2019 the development by the VigorDAC (Decentralized Autonomous Community). On main net already being fine tuned by slowly increasing number of DAC members. Open to the public in coming few weeks.

Uniswap is top. But it works on ethereum, and for me it is very expensive. So Iuse WOWwap, it's a multi-chain leverage protocol and it supports cheaper blockchains - BSC, Avalanche, Solana and others. Give it a try

So normally if you place a market buy order for an amount that is greater than offered, the price slips as you consume the volume up the order book. How does it work on this platform.
I guess I'm asking how do you know to buy (swap) just enough volume to meet the offer price and not encounter slippage?

What do I get passively as I stake in the pools? for example: If i'm in the CEL/wETH pool on Uniswap, do I receive UNI or CEL? or ETH? or all? how's that part work out exactly?

Thanks for the great video. Getting into and out of a pool is manageable, but I find the tools available to track/ estimate ROI to be a bit cumbersome and/ or tough to understand.
Glad you liked it Jody. Yes agreed, not the most intuitive but I think that is where the opportunity lies - discovering what works and applying it to one's own strategy.
As about DeFi products like as Uniswap, SpaceSwap you dont need to use tools available to track/ estimate ROI. There you can just hold your tokens in general

I just lost my base token while removing my liquidity on uniswap, all tokens gone, any idea how i can retrive it.
Is there a DEX for stock trading? Or any sort of market where you can trade stocks for crypto?
If you buy DAI the way you did, how do you secure that DAI, dont you have to send it "back" to a wallet? How does it work?

I still dont necessarily know why uniswap is so useful or so grand, but im praying this video helps me out. I get that its an exchange but im not sure how it makes me money, if it does. Is this purely for liquidity?

My challenge is after I click swap to execute the transaction I get stuck confirming on my Trustwallet, I dont see where to confirm on my wallet and don't know how to proceed. That's how the transaction get stucked without going through.
