For the number of similar engines / heads y’all do, how about making up aluminum or steel templates and install dowels, for consistent port matching, and insure manifold location on installation?

The gasket we make as templates need no dowel but I hear ya on that…
We do that on alot of aircooled vw stuff

@@SRDmotorsports fine that “your gaskets” align, but, manifolds typically have some slack in the stud and bolt holes.
If dowels were used, head - manifold location, would be standardized, and core shift corrected for, and be the same, head to head, manifold to manifold, instead of each being its own hand fitted combination.

for. 10 bolt intake manifold there is only one spot it ends up on if u factor in gravity… (unless the bolt the manifold while yanking it upwards)
but like I said.. I hear what you’re saying… and it’s the same thought why I have the outline of the intake flange into the gasket = ease of alignment when bolting just the intake gasket onto the intake manifold flange, once that’s done? You have to force it to be misaligned when tightening
Try it… with a 10 bolt intake flange it only falls one way … can’t really bolt it even half mm to the left or right…. If you could then that’s a crazy flange lol

Now if it’s a 2 stud/hole flange on the manifold like a vw? Yes a dowel is needed
