- While working at the shop I see a lot of problems/headaches that can easily be avoided with a little knowledge. Check out the video to see what I mean.

I'm learning more and more on archery with every video. I'm glad I'm discovering the importance to waxing the bowstring. I normally keep my arrows in a hard case. And when I'm not throwing arrows I keep my bow with quiver and arrows hanging off of a command hook. Feel free to provide feedback. I'm very new and I'm always up for advice and constructive or destructive criticism. I was in the Navy for five years so what feelings I do have are minimal.

I’ll admit...I used to be that guy, and my strings were well waxed. My good friend Andy used to joke “hey, your string is dripping”, 😂🤣👍 but for the last few years now I just wax them every three shooting sessions. And again, your channel is awesome!! 👍🏹

lubricate ... that's the word you were looking for..no? When you lubricate something, it get's moist :) Love the channel! New to archery and you are a GREAT help!!
For waxing, I usually take a soft wax, run it thick onto the strings, like really thick. Then I take a blow drier, and melt it all, while massaging it into the string. After that, I take a serving thread, wrap it around de string once, and then pull it down on the string. This separates the excess from the string. I then remove it and run the blow drier over the string again. The string shines, does not feel sticky, and does not get too saturated. It only takes up what it needs.

Great advice! Seems funny to me now that prime doesn't suggest the waxing that other manufactures do perhaps because they resupply the strings for you and aren't looking for this income stream. Another tip I got was to not keep arrows out of your quiver off season so the rubber holding the arrows secure in it won't loose its grip. An arrow falling out of your quiver on the trail can be a dangerous thing!
Yeah I hardly ever wax my strings. Only when needed ( which is like 3x a year)
Tip for straightening the bent fletchings, put them in hot Hot water for a few minutes and they soften enough to where they straighten up a fair bit.
Wave and wand a lighter underneath of it however you want to put it on both sides evenly without overheating and it pulls them straight back to their natural state

All you have to do is dip the fletching in boiling water it will fix them

Good information as usual. cleaning and re-waxing bow strings only takes a few minutes and does a lot to preserve them. i even keep the strings waxed on my old bows that never get used anymore, force of habit.
Wax also gets into people's ears, this could be a reason for them not listening and learning from their elders
Elders tend to have a build of wax in there ears too. Idiots are of all ages.
I like using the scorpion polymeric fluid the best

This is off topic so I apologize. I find your videos to be excellent and really appreciate them. I am having an issue with tending to lean back. I believe my draw length is correct or very close. I am shooting a tension activated release. I am also fighting freezing low. When I come to full draw, and commit to the shot, if the release does not fire withing a couple of seconds, I feel my bow shoulder collapse and cannot seem to keep the peep centered on the housing, and I "think" I begin to lean backwards. All this to say, a video about this would be wonderful. Regardless, thanks for doing all this. Mitchell.

Making anything moist is always a good thing
Reminds of oiling bike chains. People just keep adding oil and not taking the old oil off. Damages the drive train of the bike. Just what you said on how much wax you put on the strings
I remember working @ a shop & dreading the time from mid-August to mid-September. I remember being @ the shop & @ mid-day on the bow opener having a guy come in with a broken string. I knew what happened so I asked him what quiver he had. He said he didn't have a quiver. Pulling a bow up a 🌳 with arrows loaded with B.H.'s & no quiver made me wonder if he ever was fortunate enough to draw & shoot @ a deer how long the bloodtrail would be? He was more interested if something would kill a deer than how he needed to prepare himself to even be able to perform. It was like the equipment was supposed to do everything & he was no part of the equation. It made me yearn for the guys that would come in back in June that drew out of state tags that were serious & prepared.
Just curious but does the Ghost string need to be replaced as often as other strings
If your vane's are out of shape you can put them in hot water or heat them with a cigarette lighter and they will normal go back to their original shape, that been said its better not to damage them in the first place.
Do you need to put any drops of oil on the cam pins?
What I did is do 1 stroke of wax down parts of the string and then rub it in, a little goes a long way here. Obviously waxing can prevent fraying, but it's not going to put broken strands back together. In fact, the new vec 99 fiber from bloodline has a coating to try to create a waxless bowstring! Now, not all strings are going to need to be waxed every 3-4 months. For example, my Diamond Prism (about a 300 dollar bow), I went through the stock strings and cables in 5 months...and the fraying was so bad that wax didn't help at all. More expensive bows will have a better quality string, but that's going to cost you about 100 bucks out of your pocket to get quality strings and cables if you buy a cheaper bow and want a nice good string that will make tuning easier, make the bow quieter, and maximize the bow's efficiency.
How often should a string be waxed/replaced if you shoot a lot? I shoot 4-5 times a week and shoot around 60 arrows a time.
If looks dry, wax it. Otherwise just let it be.
With the amount you shoot I'd probably replace them ever 1 ½- 2 yrs.
Actually you can revitalize your veins if you wave a lighter under both sides of it consistently without overheating the rubber will pull it to us natural shape I learned that because I'm poor trying to learn to shoot and I had a whisker biscuit that was destroying my fletchings
Warm up fletching with a hair dryer, then clamp it with your fletching clamp until it cools. It will be nice and straight.
Hot water?
What about cleaning the string? The forest service graded the roads where I hunt and it's dry and dusty. Had a cam/string cover but dust is everywhere?
Unscented baby wipes?
You can use a short piece of serving and wrap it around your string, pull it tight and pull down or up on the serving and it "peels" the wax. Humphries Archery has a video titled "How to wax a Bowstring - Humphries Archery" that shows how to do this
So kinda off track but I just had my 2017 pse drive r in the shop for new limbs, new string and a good tune. I get the bow back and I can not get consistent groups.. at 20 yards. I've been bow hunting for 9-10 years now and know how I shoot. The guy at the shop says it my form, or my grip. I dont see how I can shoot great with all the other bows I have but when It comes to this one bow i just can't! Any tips!?!?! I've got around 500 invested in this bow and am on the verge of getting rid of it!
KC Sportsman lots of different variables. Assuming your form is good just the peep height being wrong can cause major problems..so many variables. If a shop won’t work with you then I would try and find a new shop
Find a new shop buy keeping with the theme do it in June or July.

I’ve been shooting since May with my (new to me) compound bow. And I havent waxed my strings yet.
I only shoot maybe 1-2 times a week. So should I be waxing my string like you said?
It is good to keep the strings waxed, it helps to preserve them.

Its not necessary to refletch arrows with "bent " fletches. Try rolling the fletches over a steaming kettle, this stress relieves the vanes to the original positions. Try it!

A blow dryer or heat gun held back away from the vane would also work.
I have a part of my string, or maybe cable, I honestly don't know which is which but the part of it that is connected to the actually cam? That loop on my Mathews Avail is freying really bad but I don't know if I should be worried about it or not??
Yeah if it's fraying you'll definitely need new string! That shouldn't fray though, have your bow technician make sure there aren't any burrs on the cam and make sure all the fibers of the string are in the track of the cam/avs harness

My buddies string is like touching a candle. Some people dont want to hear the truth. They're too stubborn. Always told to constantly wax. So far from the truth.

I shoot about 2000 arrows every week. I never put wax on without pressing the bow. So I'd put it in a bow press and loosen the string, and only wax the inside of the string. All the wax on the outside just catch sand up here in Ontario.
Damn! Wish I time for 300+ arrows every day.

I know this is super old thread, just came across it. If I don’t wax m string but every 3 months, it looks like crap . Fuzzy, hairy….. and they’re gas ghosts strings!!!. That’s shooting average of 50-100 a day
Yeah that’s a lot more arrows than an average shooter. With that many arrows/day I’m guessing you need new strings a couple times a year

What is a “serving”?
It's a material on the string that protects the string from common places of wear and tear. This includes: string stop, end loops, and center of string. The serving extends the lifespan of the string so you don't have to replace it every month. There is no point of waxing the serving because it is already protecting the string from wear and tear and it also saves you money. A new serving is a lot cheaper to get than getting a new set of strings and cables. Hope this helped :)

Clewer Man .... exactly what I do. Pull knock off and dip in just about boiling water... count to two and then let them air dry hanging upside down. ( rubber band twisted around shaft works to hang it)

i think my string might be 20 years old, wax once every 5 months probably.
You need new strings!! Just a matter of time before they break if theyre over 5 years old
