For sure need side by side comparison of the arrow gun and a crossbow that has a FPS rating around the same. Key is to have a bolt and broadhead combo that is also roughly the same weight for both.
@@mikeschlup5279I have the Ravin R500 crossbow and mine shoots 507 fps through the chronograph. Ten point also makes a crossbow called the nitro 505 that shots around 505fps hence the name.
@@joshua_JTrue. Tenpoint just released a new crossbow the TRX 515 , It shoots a 410 grain arrow/bolt at 515 fps (242 foot pounds of kinetic energy) . With a 400 grain arrow/bolt it would probably shoot around 525 I'd guess.
@@t.d.roverdrive1378The fastest production crossbow currently is the Tenpoint TRX 515. That shoots a 410 grain arrow/bolt at 515fps. Some manufacturers go as light as 350 grains , But the average weight these days is 400 grains.
In the Yugoslav Wars in the 90s, they used bows and arrows to penetrate sandbagged positions, because the arrows would go clean through them - whereas bullets wouldn't. Be interesting to see what this does to a sandbag (vs a big bore, ofc)
That's the first arrow firing gun using a blank round I have seen. There are a few compressed air ones around but that one looks great. There used to be a speargun available back in the 1970s called the Johnson Sub Marine Gun or SMG. It could be loaded with two spears and they were fired with .22 blanks, the sort used in Ramset power powered tools on construction sites. I think there may have been a four barrel one as well. They were made in the USA and then a New Zealand company bought them and produced them in New Zealand for a while. They ended up being banned for spearfishing in many counties so they stopped making them.
Great video, I was surprised to see the results of the speed and the penetration of that arrow. I used to put masonry nails into concrete with blanks but I didnt know how much power they had. Its almost as amazing as my black powder pipe bombs that I made as a teen. Thats about 55 years ago. After we set the first one off, we never made another.
I'd like to see that video also, but fyi on average recurve bows are about 200-250f/s, compound and cross bows are about 300-350f/s and this is doing over 400. That being said, the weight of the arrows and the types of head used will make a huge difference in damage and energy transfer so I still wanna see it.
Scott, I'm not sure if I enjoy your intros the best, or your video content. One thing for sure is that both put a smile on my face, and more knowledge in my brain. No doubt I can use more of each! This one is a top tenner for sure, that 22 blank packs a punch! Thanks for what you are doing, and best wishes always!
I've been enjoying every one of Scott's since I discovered his channel early this year, and I think this is the very first time a chronograph has ever been actually used to measure speed 😂
Great video! When I was overseas in the Army some 52 years ago I had a spear gun called the Sub Marine Gun, or SMG. It was double barreled and also used 22lr nail gun blanks in an adapter. It was way more powerful than I thought it would be.
My favorite firearm as a kid was a single shot .22 rifle. It taught me to hit the small game on the first shot. My Father was a Sniper in the Military, and taught me everything. I was never as good as him, but my accuracy was at the top.
If you go to a hardware store and buy blanks for a concrete gun, they have different powder loads for different bolts and anchors. The last time I purchased them, there was low medium and high power loads.

Awesome arrow thrower!! Thank you for your time and your content!! Got some serrated ultra light carbon fiber broadheads if you go for distance shots and some ball bearing spinner 125gr thunderheads from the 90's. More than welcome to them if ya want them.
Many years ago my brother and I would get together with some of our friends and hunt in Vermont for both bow and gun seasons. At the local bar one night one of the locals was bragging about getting his deer in bow season. This guy had only one hand so we were curious about how he did it. He claimed to not have a prosthesis. He eventually invited us to his house and demonstrated. He basically had made his own version from a .410 single shot shotgun. He removed the slug and inserted the arrow right into the shell and up against the wad. Rested the gun on his arm and shot at a tree about 25 yards away. We were all amazed. It seemed like it was almost instantaneous and hit right where he said it would!
The arrow gun is very interesting and suprisingly powerful. Although you were shooting over very short distances the over penitration was to be expected. It would be interesting seeing how it works at say 25-30 yards. Thanks for the laughs!
This thing is awesome, and you tested it on all the things I would want to see on a debut video! Looking forward to the next one, testing it against crossbows, bows, and air-gun bows! Well done!
I once took an old .410 break action and cut the powder and shot out of some old ammo and shoved arrows down the barrel and launched them with just the primer. Didn’t work as well as this thing, but it was still very impressive for being just a primer.
Arrows have more kinetic energy transfer than bullets, I knew it would go straight through that body armor with ease. I'd love to see you test arrows with a higher caliber round on higher rated armor. Love the work on this channel, and glad to see genie return too lol.
The length of the arrows has them weighing more than a small caliber bullet anyway. That velocity is comparable to my crossbow actually and the total kinetic energy is basically like a handgun, somewhere between a .22 mag and a .380. That razor broadhead is the big difference maker though. Vests are designed to stop bullets, not flying blades.
@@michaelguerra5888 The length of the arrow also helps to transfer more energy, when the tip of the arrow slows down, the rear of the arrow still has inertia and can continue to "push" the arrow forward - there are some good videos showing them going clear through sandbags!

I love your content, I am an avid crossbow and Gun Enthusiast, the Ravin r500 fires bolts at more then 500 ft/s. However using a 22 blank is way more fun!
If it hasn’t already been said, load it up with a custom crimped blank 22 shell. Should be easy enough to do in incremental steps, so you could check each spent shell for signs of over pressure so you don’t go to far. You would want to check on powder types, or just use the blank powder from unshot shells. Just a thought 💭 Good luck!
It would just shoot the tip of the arrow with the insert, Joergsprave had the same idea. Taofledermaus tested it out for him and exactly that happened.
I have a feeling Scott won't see this but if you somehow do Scott like this I know I feel like you would be the perfect motivation buddy for a gym workout your positive energy is contagious

Awesome weapon! Would love to see a follow up video with a sight attached and tested at longer distances. I'm curious to see what the effective range is.
Standard 22LR blanks provide 135ft.lb of energy. Not bad at all but there are crossbows with more energy than that. If you wanted to seriously amp up that 22 arrow gun you could go with nail gun blanks. I believe the red (strong) blanks provide around 350ft.lb and purple (very strong) around 440ft.lb.
RIGHT ON! Now your talking. But, I wonder what it would take, to get the broadhead & insert end of that arrow to blow off, out of that shaft? LOL,,, another excellent test to do!
You should try this arrow gun with stronger blanks…like the industrial ones used to drive nails in concrete. They make them in different power levels. It’d be interesting to see if the arrow is faster or not.
I was looking at Umarex Air Javelins and other variants not too long ago. Of course, those are Co2 or pneumatic pump powered rather than utilizing the gasses from blanks.
HEH. West Virginian here; this reminds me of dad telling me about the guys he worked with at the mines using cut .410 shells and arrows to get another deer without having to actually bother buying a bow. Nice to see the non-rednecked version!

Man, I love your skits. It's always one little thing in each and everyone that just brightens a day. Oh, and the guns. Love the guns. Love the guns so much.
You're an absolute beast, Scott (in the best meaning of the word). The Arrow Gun probably qualifies as a "muzzle loader," in that the projectile has to be loaded into the muzzle, and it's powered by, essentially, a cap. Might be interesting to see if there would be any difference in velocities using nail powder loads, such as Ramset color-coded loads. They are pretty spicy. Someone I know blew a 10/22 magazine clear out of the rifle (in fragments) using a yellow one to to back up a .22 caliber lead pellet. Nice upgrade to the Chip o'Matic 6000. Be careful, though - a landscaping working was recently pulled head-first into a wood chipper that he was operating. It did not end well for him. Stay safe. Cheers.
Hey Scott, one of the outfits that sold these was Swivel Machine Works. Well, back in like 96' or 97' the head dude at Swivel Machine Works offered to sell me one of his Airrow Stealth air/co2 arrow pistols to me for $425. So, after I flew to Alaska for the season (I was chief engineer on tug boats working the Kuskokwim, Noatak, Kobuk, and Yukon rivers at the time) I told my wife to order it for me. The dude reneged on his offer and tried to sell her one of these blank firing units. He said he quoted me too low of a price and couldn't sell it to her for less than $750. So she said she'd take it and he basically refused to sell it to her. He was a lying punk and Welsher. Anyway, have a lathe and mill and built both a blank firing arrow barrel for my 10-22 and a copy of the Airrow Stealth!
Great content as always KB! I would be interested to see how it would do when shot at a windshield, side windows, maybe a standard house window as well...for science
Impressive. Now I'm wondering how long it'll be before you have a video of this based on a 4 bore 😉 And yes, we all know you're crazy enough to do it 👍
You want the most penetration from a broadhead, try the Wasp Havalon. Blades are the same scalpel sharp like the Havalon knives, made by the same people, and they're replaceable when damaged.
When I was a kid a cousin and myself would remove the shot from low brass 20g rounds and fire arrows out of a single shot H&R . It'd lounch an arrow completely outta sight ! Good times growing up in Kentucky.

@noodlelynoodle. you are wrong about that. You need to research 18 U.S.C 921 subsection 3. A black powder is considered an antique firearm therefore still falls under federal law. Which is why there is a blackpowder season.
More amazing content. Much love from Colorado, Scott! Keep up the great work! 🤘 Edit: I wonder how the power of this compares to my 90 Lb draw compound bow. I've sent a field tip through a quarter inch solid steel post up to the fletching, which I believe is what stopped it. I believe it was made for bear hunting, I just enjoy archery recreationally on targets. I don't use that one anymore due to an injury from snowboarding, so if you'd like it sent to you then it's yours to compare with!
In places where real firearms are hard to find, nail guns driven by .22 blanks are commonly used by criminals as a murdering weapon. It's powerful enough to be lethal in close range. This fun and entertaining video is a rock-solid proof 👍
Given that some hunting crossbows has the same power as a .308, not sure I'd say this is more power than one. But I was impressed with the sheer penetration value. Holy cow.
An idea came to me that you may have already done, but here it is in case you haven't. I wonder what bullets will do when they are sharpened to a point? You could do different calibers with blunt points, razor sharp points etc. It'd be interesting to see the difference between sharp, and as bought bullets. 👍😎✌🗽
Very interesting and surprising. I was shocked at how much velocity those arrows produced (but it's just under the threshold to need a licence. Honestly, the only penetration test I wasn't shocked by was the body armour!
Incredible piercing power, probably not much "stopping" power. The way it passed through all 3X 5 gallon water jugs, I almost thought that Scott had missed the target! I wonder what the largest caliber an arrow could handle, or if it increases the power that much to make a difference.

For sure need side by side comparison of the arrow gun and a crossbow that has a FPS rating around the same. Key is to have a bolt and broadhead combo that is also roughly the same weight for both.
I think the best crossbows are in the 400fps neighborhood
@@mikeschlup5279I have the Ravin R500 crossbow and mine shoots 507 fps through the chronograph. Ten point also makes a crossbow called the nitro 505 that shots around 505fps hence the name.
I think some of the fastest shoot around 530 fps even
@@joshua_JTrue.
Speed is sometimes misleading as manufactures sometimes use lighter arrows/bolts to achieve higher speed readings.
No we didnt
Crazy an arrow could penetrate but not a bullet 😮
@Berm_Blaster The arrow has an easier time pushing the sand away. Bullets tend to just smash into them and lose their energy.
Hmmm source?
modern tank munitions (APFSDS) are just big arrows moving very fast
Dude, you are seriously effed up. I LOVE IT!!!! The genie skit at the beginning of the video was hilarious! It may be your best one yet!!
Would be cool to see a side by side comparison with a compound bow, crossbow, and the arrow gun.
And a normal .22 with similar barrel length!
I'd like to see that video also, but fyi on average recurve bows are about 200-250f/s, compound and cross bows are about 300-350f/s and this is doing over 400. That being said, the weight of the arrows and the types of head used will make a huge difference in damage and energy transfer so I still wanna see it.
There are also PCP arrow guns. The dragon claw II comes in around 600fps with a arrow
ten point crosbows shoot at like 505 fps
@@Blatant.Obscurity ravin and other high end crossbows are all around 450FPS.

I love how much joy he gets from the smallest bit of destruction! (The chipper, dropping heavy objects onto vehicles, etc)
It's impressive those tiny .22 blanks put out that much power.
If you go to a hardware store and buy blanks for a concrete gun, they have different powder loads for different bolts and anchors. The last time I purchased them, there was low medium and high power loads.
@@kwhp1507 Using a Hilti impact gun, as a electrician i would shoot and set a 3/8 all thread rod coulping through a 1/2 steel beam, it would set in the beam then i would attach the all thread to it, it used .22 blanks
I always wonder... how can Scott possibly make a better intro than the last one... then Scott fails in enjoyment over a new woodchipper.
The arrow gun is very interesting and suprisingly powerful. Although you were shooting over very short distances the over penitration was to be expected. It would be interesting seeing how it works at say 25-30 yards.
Thanks for the laughs!
at25 yard which is im geussing 25 meter itll still pen a car door and prob body armor like that too
This thing is awesome, and you tested it on all the things I would want to see on a debut video! Looking forward to the next one, testing it against crossbows, bows, and air-gun bows! Well done!
The Arrow Gun. 10,000 years in development. The ultimate ranged weapon.
I once took an old .410 break action and cut the powder and shot out of some old ammo and shoved arrows down the barrel and launched them with just the primer. Didn’t work as well as this thing, but it was still very impressive for being just a primer.
The Arrow gun is an impressive beast. Never thought it'd pack such a punch.
Would it count for archery in hunting season tho?
@@Mack_Dingo I'm pretty sure it counts as alternative season, since it doesn't really use cartridge ammo
@@Mack_Dingo no string, no limbs so it's not archery
If that's how much damage it can do with a regular .22 blank, I can't imagine how crazy it could get with a blank .22 magnum!
I don think he needs any new scars on his neck.
9mm blank or 223 arrow gun?
@@michaelguerra5888 The length of the arrow also helps to transfer more energy, when the tip of the arrow slows down, the rear of the arrow still has inertia and can continue to "push" the arrow forward - there are some good videos showing them going clear through sandbags!
For real certain Arrows and compound bows can literally go right thru bears
Scott makes everyone’s day better when he uploads.
Crazy arrow gun. But funny as well.
I watch your videos now since 2019 and I'm still very entertained by them. It's so cool seeing you over the years how you evolved. I really love your humor and your laughing.
I just wanna say thank you for all the years of great videos and great entertainment ❤

The first arrow's reaction is the epitome of why I love Scott. Even when I was entirely Team Matt and had my initial biased hatred for Scott, but when things turned into a huge team up and real collab, I was ashamed. This man is amazing.
When was there ever bad blood between those two?
@@SNELLERIZED There wasn't really but there was a pretend rivalry, where they'd throw shade at each other but then it turned out that the AK guy had lied to both of them to start the beef, to play them against each other so he would become the number 1 gun tuber, they figured it out and went after ak guy/Brandon but it was all just a joke............an extremely obvious joke.
I love your content, I am an avid crossbow and Gun Enthusiast, the Ravin r500 fires bolts at more then 500 ft/s. However using a 22 blank is way more fun!
Darn sight easier to reload than a crossbow too
If it hasn’t already been said, load it up with a custom crimped blank 22 shell. Should be easy enough to do in incremental steps, so you could check each spent shell for signs of over pressure so you don’t go to far.
You would want to check on powder types, or just use the blank powder from unshot shells.
Just a thought 💭
Good luck!
Yeah what could go wrong
It would just shoot the tip of the arrow with the insert, Joergsprave had the same idea.
Taofledermaus tested it out for him and exactly that happened.

Great video, as always Scott. Absolutely loved seeing Arnie the genie back.... One of your most hilarious characters 🤣 ❤
I, for one, want to see that slap fight - and we should get Houston Jones, Eddie Hall and Wendigoon for the judges - with the dude from Tundra Tactical and Paul Harrell doing the play by play and commentary.
Awesome weapon!
Would love to see a follow up video with a sight attached and tested at longer distances. I'm curious to see what the effective range is.
Needs a red dot.
I'd be guessing about the same as a decent compound bow.
I am stunned by this weapon. I had no idea it even existed. Thanks for bringing it to my attention Scott. Absolutely love it along with your videos.
There are air rifles that fire arrows, too.
Yes!!
Let the chipping resume!!
Edit: We’re going to need a bigger hopper.
At least big enough to fit a furby.
Thanks Scott 🙏
I wouldn't say non...lol. I've seen overseas fishermen sniping fish off a bridge with a similar setup but the arrow has monofilament attached to it.
I freaking loved the exciting scream for the new chipper 😂 i need that as a ringtone
That thing is badass!! I think it beats the power and effectiveness of 22lr and maybe even a few other low power pistol cartridges. But it's obviously not as convenient as a semi auto anything, lol.
Dude, those blanks are designed for driving nails into concrete. I love them!
Man, I love your skits. It's always one little thing in each and everyone that just brightens a day. Oh, and the guns. Love the guns. Love the guns so much.
If Stan smith from American dad was a real person 😂
He rather looks like his cousin from rural America, greetings from Europe
Stay safe. Cheers.
If there's a article about that I'd like to see it
Just morbid curiosity

Makes me realize how much power a 22 blank ramset really has
I was most shocked at the body armor results. Curious how high of rating it would penetrate.
I think the body armor would've stopped the small game arrow
problem is it was soft armor, any level of plate armor should stop that no problem
Worked with a guy in Oklahoma around 1980. He used a single shot .410 and standard arrows.
I loved it when he put the furby in the chipper. Absolutely hilarious.
I can't see a chipper without thinking about the movie Fargo.
Best use of a furbie I have seen.😂
Impressive. Now I'm wondering how long it'll be before you have a video of this based on a 4 bore 😉
And yes, we all know you're crazy enough to do it 👍
You want the most penetration from a broadhead, try the Wasp Havalon. Blades are the same scalpel sharp like the Havalon knives, made by the same people, and they're replaceable when damaged.
I just realized that Gun Genie is a parody of Jorgen Von Strangle

That was really cool Scott!!! I wonder how various states consider the legality of this "hybrid" weapon during Deer season?
Frick what the state says
Since it still uses a flammable propellant to fire it still counts as a firearm and thus would fall under rifle season to be used.
@@marksterling7822what if you had a black powder version? Black powder guns aren't considered firearms at least by the federal government
Edit: I wonder how the power of this compares to my 90 Lb draw compound bow. I've sent a field tip through a quarter inch solid steel post up to the fletching, which I believe is what stopped it.
Holy cow.
The fastest crossbow is the Ten point Nitro and it shoots 505 FPS and his about 10th of the power of a .308Win. 😂😂😂
An idea came to me that you may have already done, but here it is in case you haven't. I wonder what bullets will do when they are sharpened to a point? Incredible piercing power, probably not much "stopping" power. The way it passed through all 3X 5 gallon water jugs, I almost thought that Scott had missed the target! I wonder what the largest caliber an arrow could handle, or if it increases the power that much to make a difference.
Not much stopping power? That thing would probably take down anything that is in the lower 48! An arrow cuts a channel rather than tearing it.
