  • In this video, I am getting my second DF64 ready for the filter coffee taste test.
    In the yellow DF64, I am removing the titanium coated burr to the 64mm red speed coated SSP multipurpose burr set.
    I clean up the grinder and discuss about what you should do before using the grinder the first time.
    I also did a quick alignment test and in 2 attempts I am able to get the ssp burr 100% aligned.

    great video thanks,
    at the end you mention the 10’ titled base helps with the alignment proses.
    How exactly? I would not expect that to influence burr alignment.
    Is it just easier to work on at that angle?

      I can only relate in my own user experience but I cannot provide any scientific explanation on how the 10 degree stands makes burr alignment easier.
      One confirmed advantage is that the coffee ground now exit the chute better and grinding chamber is much cleaner. Of course, this can also be due to the fact that I have modded the declumper as well,

    so that's all you have to do to check for alignment? you just have to check which of the 3 possible positions that you need to be attaching the top and bottom back together? will it always be a 100% match or will it just be the "best results of the marker test" is the alignment you end up going with?

    • @CaffeMartellaSingapore
      @CaffeMartellaSingapore  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      it's the best position of the the 3 which may not be 100% aligned. but if u ate able to get close to 90% its pretty good.

    Need your professional opinion at the moment I have the Titanium burr and I think I will use it for a while because it's brand new. One more question I have two options for water that I can use for my Espresso One is mineral water with calcium 20ppm and TDS 90-105mg/I been told mineral helps for better-tasting espresso ?. The second option is reverse osmosis water without minerals. Guess without minerals taste will be less but less build-up (mineral /calcium in the boilers? What would be the best option?

    • @CaffeMartellaSingapore
      @CaffeMartellaSingapore  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      i dont recommend using minerals in boiler type espresso machines unless you are using the minerals that doesn't contain any calcium at all. TDS usually is fairly low in singapore. I wont advice using reverse osmosis water though. i like water that has potassium, magnesium

    • @igiveupfine
      @igiveupfine 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      people think the ssp burrs taste different and better. supposedly the ssp burrs are sharper and help grind the coffee faster. ssp is a company from south korea and people are really excited about them.

  • @galfert
    @galfert 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    With the SSP burr change the new zero mark is no longer at the 6 o'clock position (bean icon). This indicates that that SSP burrs must be thicker than the original burrs. If you order the DF64 with SSP burrs does that mean that the collar numbers will better line up with zero at the 6 o'clock bean icon position? ...or will the SSP burr even from factory always mean that the zero mark is now at the 3 o'clock position regardless?

    • @JJ-mf8ru
      @JJ-mf8ru 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was wondering the same thing. I think that’s why CY has that plastic collar that he can move around to point at the new zero point. Perhaps one easy solution is to print a new circular label to stick over the original? Preferably something that won’t be impossible to peel off once you decide to return to the stock burrs. I’m sure CY could easily make that, and hopefully with a nicer font too. Cheers!

    I've been leant an Atom 65 (currently using a J-max) by a friend and thought it would be great to check the alignment of the burrs to make sure all is running well before I begin. His was used in his coffee shop but burrs seem in good shape. Performing the marker test everything seems even all around, but the flats aren't completely cleaned of marker. The inner point remains and only the outer edge is rubbed away. On both top and bottom burrs. So I'm not really sure if that's normal or where to go from here haha. Any advice from anyone?

    Hi , thank you for your Chanel! But please remove your alignment videos, they are far below your level. Your alignment does not consider the lower burr. With your method the upper burr now is OK aligned but the lower one still could be total off. For a complete alignment you need to shim the bottom burr (too).
    Best regards and thx for your videos.
