  • Hi good evening everyone.
    This is a short video working on alignment of the SSP unimodal (multipurpose) burr set on the 10° Tilted base.

    Excellent work, CY. I hope in future you will compare the grinder performance using both SSP burr sets against the stock burr set.

    Hello! Thanks for experimenting and doing the hard work for us! Do you sell the declumper on its own? Or do you have combo with the grind indicator ring?

      If you don't have a 3d printer we can print and post them to you. Depending on where you are, if you are in Malaysia, shipping will be much cheaper at around SG$6 by Qxpress.

      Thanks for the reply! I guess I’ll wait for the final anti popcorning device to finish and I’ll purchase that as well. I live in America so I’ll have to pay a little more but I’d rather support you for making the designs for us

    Have you meet problems that the bean cannot be completely ground(jumping between the burr)and high pitch sound appears due to hidden grounds in the larger screw holes?

    • @CaffeMartellaSingapore
      @CaffeMartellaSingapore  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have not experience ungrounded beans at all ever since I had my grinder on the 10° tilt and I think it helps a lot.

    CY, with these burrs the zero point is so different as you indicated that it’s touching I believe you said at 25. Could a new decal be placed over the existing one and rotating it so that when you stick it over the existing one the zero point is the new zero point? That would allow the grinder to be much easier to read the settings in the future? Is it possible to get from the manufacture the decal with the number to replace them to the new correct position based on these new burrs?

      heat current decal with hair drier and then you can take it out and stick it where you want. the decal is thick it wont break.

    Does adjusing in this way with the tilt not just get rid of the appearance of misalignment by putting more pressure on the area that is out of alignment?
    When the coffee is going through the burrs you should have even pressure on all parts of the burrs and the misalignment will reappear. Would the correct method not be to align when the burrs are flat and use shims underneath to make sure that they are truly aligned under even pressure?

      I've watched that video too but it doesn't help with my original point. I still think the tilt is just helping to put pressure on the area of the burr that is misaligned away from the bottom giving the illusion of alignment.
      When coffee is in the grinder and the top burr housing is properly forced against the adjustment ring the misalignment will still be there. Because the bottom burr rotates simply turning the top burr can't help with alignment in my mind.
      If the top burr is tilted and not in the same plane as the bottom turning it will have no effect other than to make it rub in a different place when they are near touching.

    Have you tried grinding for espresso using this SSP multipurpose burr? If you have, did it work well?

    Why does the tilted base have an effect on the burr alignment?
    Also, could you make a video comparing the espresso brewed on the multipurpose burr to the high uniformity burr?

    • @BensCoffeeRants
      @BensCoffeeRants 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think the tilt would have an effect, I could see it potentially helping with retention amount, but I wonder if more coffee is ground on the lower / tilted part making the alignment potentially less important but also wearing that part of the burrs faster (probably not too much of a concern with the Redspeed coated SSP burrs that are supposed to last a ridiculously long time).

    does it damage the burrs when youre spinning at the 0 mark and you hear the burrs touching?

  • @F3RN4ND0CG

    Do you have an explanation of why it seems easier to find good alignment with the tilted base?

    • @CaffeMartellaSingapore
      @CaffeMartellaSingapore  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not totally. But I think it has to do with the springs and the weight distribution of the upper burrs by the 3 springs. From my observation, before the tilt, the region that is higher is always the 6 o' clock position. By tilting towards 6 o' clock and in that direction by 10°, it seems to be able to allow the spring to get slightly lower and hence a more well aligned burr.

      @@CaffeMartellaSingapore you should try the same grinder you just aligned without the tilted base and see if it makes a deference in alignment. i find it weird that the base helps with burr aligning. thanks for the video again CY

    Just wanted to point out that SSP Multipurpose is not the same as the Unimodal. Unimodal is the older version of brew burrs without the additional flat surfaces, hence its alignment cannot be checked using the whiteboard marker method.
    SSP Multipurpose was made specifically for Lagom under their request to create slightly more fines to be usable on espresso grind settings, and it has become popular.

    • @CaffeMartellaSingapore
      @CaffeMartellaSingapore  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      thanks for the correction. I have tried to align my own way and please don't follow me if my method is not correct. I feel that it can still be done this way. My opinion only.

      @@CaffeMartellaSingapore Hi, your method is correct for the multipurpose burrs (as shown in your video). I am not sure about the unimodal, I haven't seen anyone aligning it yet, just theoretically it can't be checked using whiteboard marker due to the lack of flat surfaces. But if you have, perhaps you can try it out.
