Espresso Machine Cleaning & Maintenance for Perfect Shots
o ensure your Quick Mill Rubino espresso machine continues to deliver exceptional espresso and retains its pristine appearance, regular cleaning and maintenance are essential. Here's how to clean the body using Scotch-Brite, backflush the group head with powder, and replace the E61 group gasket.
1. Cleaning the Machine Body with Scotch-Brite
The body of the Quick Mill Rubino is made of stainless steel, which gives it a sleek and professional look. Over time, fingerprints, coffee stains, and water spots can accumulate. Using Scotch-Brite along with a simple cleaning solution can help restore the machine's shine.
For cleaning, mix warm water with a teaspoon of baking soda and a drop of dishwashing soap. Dampen a Scotch-Brite pad with the solution and gently scrub the exterior of the espresso machine, following the grain of the metal to avoid scratches. For stubborn stains, apply a bit more baking soda directly to the pad. Once cleaned, wipe the machine with a damp microfiber cloth and dry it with a clean, dry cloth to restore the shine.
2. Cleaning the Group Head and Shower Screen with Backflush Powder
To maintain consistent espresso quality and prevent coffee oils from building up, it's crucial to clean the group head and shower screen regularly. Backflushing with a backflush powder is an effective method to clean these components. Insert a blind filter into the portafilter, add the recommended amount of backflush powder, and lock the portafilter into the group head. Run the brewing cycle for 10-15 seconds, then turn off the machine. Repeat this process 3-4 times. Afterward, run water through the group head to flush out any leftover powder and coffee residues. If necessary, use a small brush or cloth to clean any remaining oils from the shower screen.
3. Replacing the E61 Group Gasket
Over time, the group gasket can wear out, leading to leaks and poor pressure during extraction. Replacing the group gasket is an important part of machine maintenance to ensure continued performance. First, power off and unplug the machine. Then, remove the portafilter and gently pry out the old gasket using a small flathead screwdriver. Once removed, insert the new E61 group gasket into the groove and ensure it's seated properly. After replacing the gasket, wipe down the group head with a clean cloth before reassembling.
Conclusion
With regular cleaning and maintenance, your Quick Mill Rubino will continue to produce exceptional espresso while maintaining its polished appearance. Using Scotch-Brite pads and a simple solution of baking soda and dish soap will keep the body looking great, while backflushing the group head with backflush powder ensures smooth extraction. Replacing the E61 group gasket will help maintain optimal pressure and performance, keeping your espresso machine in top condition for years to come.

Roasting a small batch of coffee beans grown in Australia

Roasting a small batch of coffee gifted to me by a dear friend from Australia. The roast didn't go as planned towards the end as the roast went crashing, and I didn't get the expected consecutive cracking from the first crack. Also, towards the last stage of crashing, I tried to increase the heating power. I know it's a wrong decision, but I still go for it anyway. The end result of the cupping...

Honestly, removing parchment from green coffee is tedious and painful to the finger nails but oddly satisfying. Once you start the job, you won't stop until all the parchment are removed from the green coffee. Besides that, getting the kids involved in removing the parchment speed up the entire process and its a good way to get their hands off electronic gadgets and have some family bonding time.

In case of touch screen failure, can the Fiorenzato Allground grind manually from the switch button ?
No solutions even after changing the flow meter neither syringe, flipping or even kicking ... this is juts a piece of crap
Yes, i agree it can be very frustrating, and what makes it worse is Breville never shows up to address this issue, which appears to be a very common issue among the Barista Pro version. It just leaves it to the end user to figure out a way or, in some cases, like in my case, drive me away from the brand. I am glad actually I had used this and had the experience, which pushed me to more towards the semi-professional machine.
way too long video. No one wants to sit around that long to hear taste profile results.
Or you can do what I do, not measure anything. Once you’ve added steamed milk and sugar, it doesn’t really matter how obsessive you are on the details.
In a way I agree with you. Nowadays, the only thing I measure is the weight of the beans.
why is the music so loud holy hell lmao
Sorry about the music. The key here is the time it takes to grind. I will lower the volume of the music if I am paying attention to the grinding sound. Thanks for the feedback.
Nice review! For direct lever machines, I always err on the side of starting too coarse for my dialing in. Even if there’s not enough resistance to get a 9 bar shot, I can just adjust in the moment and get a tasty drink. If you start too fine, there’s basically no way to recover (though I will admit to pulling a 6 minute shot once bc of a grind that was too fine).
Haha I feel you. That is also the reason I am keeping the direct lever configuration for now as I tend to grind too fine. But i enjoy the low pressure preinfusion up for 1.5 min and slowly ramp up the pressure and get a really syrupy shot.
Молочную трубку не тем концом вставил в диспенсер.
it looks like the water doesn't hit the puck evenly.
The sound is terrible, but I wanted to push myself to watch the video in search for some credible information on preparing light roast in moka pod. Unfortunately you lost me when you said that you just eyeball the amount of coffee in the basket…
Haha sorry about that. I will try to make another one soon!
Hi how did you carry out the tests? Mines not heating

Im gonna be that guy, I’d be pissed if I paid for this “general service & cleaning”. I expected more than poking coffee out with a allen key and cleaning with a brush & vacuum cleaner.
Well. We spend time doing it and we will have to charge as we have rental and fees to pay.
@@CaffeMartellaSingapore I understand the need to make a living and work shouldn't be free, but if I pay for a service like this I would expect more than what you showed in the video. as an example, I was really looking forward to you opening up the plasma generator, maybe testing it to see if it is working, doing a more in depth cleaning on that, perhaps taking the burrs apart to clean them exec.
@waldip4474 this is the gen 1 without the plasma ioniser. int t his situation, the choking is due to loading too much beans at one goal. And hence the job is the remove the clog and the choke coffee ground.
@@CaffeMartellaSingapore are you not referring to the df64? I was not aware that there is a gen2 of the DF54
Super helpful
Thank you for watching my videos!
Looks messy
To be honest, it will be. Making coffee will have some mess. This grinder is not the best at reducing that mess to zero, but it's a very good grinder that is going to give you the taste.
Good morning friend, I just bought the SMEG EGF03 machine and I'm waiting for it to arrive, thanks also to your excellent videos, and to the offer of a well-known shop that I managed to get it at a good price, in the meantime what am I waiting for I'll watch all your videos of the machine, but I wonder; is there a 58mm bottomless filter holder compatible with this machine? thanks for the help... PS. in fact I bought the MHW-3BOMBER Puck Screen 58.5 mm, thickness 0.8 mm😉😉
Sadly no as the machine uses a 3 fin style portafilter. But it can use any 58mm filter basket. Congrats on the good machine and the choice of puck screen is good too!
@@CaffeMartellaSingapore Thanks for the help, so even if I found a filter holder with three fins it wouldn't be ok? Thanks again and congratulations for the great videos you make👏👏
@TheNokx thank you for the support of my YT channel! I am not sure the other after market 3-fin portafilter that can fit the SMEG though.
Hello What Type Of Marker Did You Use On The Burrs?
Pilot water based marker
Theres no reason to take off the grind indicator. It all comes off as one piece
Love that temperature sensor on the steam tip! Without your video, i would have had no idea it was there. Brilliant video!
Thanks for watching my videos! Glad that you like it
What do you think of the spring version?
I am loving my direct lever setting so much that I have yet to switch to the spring version. I think it's time that I switch soon to try.
I just figured it would be good for a consistent shot so you have less variables to deal with when tweaking your recipe
@CH-yp5by in that aspect yes. However I constantly like to change my pressure base on the coffee, grind setting, roast level and age of the beans, hence I like the flexibility of the direct lever.
Nice machine, you need to learn how to steam milk properly, you need to tilt the jug first to get the milk spinning into a vortex that won't happen if you sit it on something upright.
Thanks for the tips. Milk can be steamed as good even if you rest the milk jug horizontally. The key lies in the position of the steam wand. It's either you tilt the jug to suit the position of the steam wand or vice versa. Anyway thanks for the tip again!
Hello, is the machine keeping up?
Yes it is a good machine and I am still using it.
@ any flaws ? I’m tired of comparing machines and am not sure what’s the best between this machine the legato and Breville bambino and gaggia classic pro 😅
@alialjarwan8679 bambino plus if you like the auto frothing features. I like the 3007L as its a great entry level priced machine with semi professional use. 58mm size standard portafilter and ability to switch from brew to steam directly is a win for me.
@alialjarwan8679 get the latest version as shown in Lance video and I believe it's a great machine.
@@CaffeMartellaSingapore what about the warranty ?
I tried to prefuse by holding down the double shot button but after about 8 seconds the coffee starts coming out regardless of whether I take my finger off the button or not. Is there a maximum threshold for pre-infusion where the pump just kicks in anyway?
I think there is. However, as I no longer use this machine and have it with me, I can not do the test to find out. I would suggest you to test without preinfusion first. Get the correct grind size and the bean to espresso ratio of 1 : 2 to 1: 2.5 in about 30s. Get the extraction right without preinfusion first. Preinfusion does help with a more even extraction though but it is not a must.
Hello good morning, congratulations great video, I'm about to buy this smeg machine, could you advise me the amount of coffee beans that you put in when you made that coffee per minute in the video 34.40, and the amount of coffee that came out in powder after grinding? thanks for the help translated with google translate from Italian to English
Hi first, thanks for watching my videos, buddy! Usually, I don't stall a full 250g in the hopper. However, this. grinder needs some beans in order to press the beans down to the burrs and get grinded. So I will recommend 100g of beans in the hopper and I always use the time grinding function to test for a specific grind size, I always go for 18g of the coffee ground out in whatever time it needs to grind. Most importantly, it is grinding to a fixed output. And it's a standard 1:2 ratio for beans to espresso. Hope that helps!
@@CaffeMartellaSingapore I really thank you for your help, you were very clear in the explanation...thanks again
@TheNokx always welcome my friend and thanks for watching my videos. I'm glad that it helps.
I wish they would release one without a grinder.
Well, the built-in grinder does a decent job in producing a decent filtered coffee lacking in many aspects. Mostly, the built-in grinder produces coffee that is muddy, unbalanced coffee usually swing towards higher acidity (not the pleasant kind) and lacking in sweetness as compared to coffee grinded from other stand alone grinder such as the DF64 with SSP Burrs. The current one i am using is lab sweet, and hence, the sweetness and balance are such a drastic difference against the built-in grinder.
Nice toy cy
Haha yeah but i think it may be suitable for cafe use.
Hi. I try adjusting accordingly and using temp scale, max i can go to 76f only. Kindly check if your machine can go to 96f then something wrong with mine. Very much appreciated if you can inform me the findings. Thanks.
Which temperature did you measure? Water coming out of the group or water coming out of the portafilter? Either one will have the temperature drop drastically unless all the metal parts are all heat up properly.
Which espresso machine do you recommend for $500, $1000, $2000??
I see your secret ingredient is cough syrup
Hahaha...i am unwell roasting through all the beans during the comp and that may have affected my tasting on the coffee.
why em23 doesn't have the backflush function like this model?
That I can't really comment.
good luck boss!
Thank you!
What can you say about Gemilai CMR 3035? I would really like to know your opinion
I believe it's one of the best value machine specs that rival lelit bianca but much much much cheaper.
What would you say about Gemilai CRM 3035? I would like to hear your opinion
It's a very good machine with similar specs to lelit bianca but way cheaper in price. Gemilais quality is pretty decent.
Good to see you again in a while, CY. I love your roasting videos!
Thanks JC!
Hi, I am interested in the Gemilai 3131 espresso machine that you introduced in this video. I know you sold it a while ago. What was the reason you are not carrying it any longer ? Were there any flaws in the design or was it reliably producing good quality shots ? Regards,
Hi the only reason that I don't.carry this model anymore is the size of the machine. It's too big for most home butinn terms of espresso quality and there stability its good.
Hi CY
Hi Gwen!
i love the slo mo 😂
Haha thank you for tolerating that.
But what if the grinder gets choked every 3-4 grind sessions? That is the case with mine. This much maintenance every 3-4 cups of coffee is not sustainable.
My grinder just arrived today, haven't used it but I have the breville barista express with the grinder included. Maybe you're grinding too fine also try spraying your beans with water and give them a little shake? If it doesn't work maybe try different fresher roasted beans. If that does not work either maybe your machine is defective or it's not aligned?
Try to pour in the beans while the grinder motor is on. I have no issue with the grinder choking u less you are grinding too fine or pouring too much beans at one go.
I have a Pasquini Livia, which has been a phenomenal machine. Since I plan to downsize into a smaller space, I will need to downsize to a smaller machine. Do you think this machine will be satisfactory or should I consider the Gaggia Classic?
I think it is a neat little machine and I love the form factor. If you can managed the heat and grind setting? It makes good espresso.
What is the prize for the competition
To be honest, I have no idea!
You need to remove the black o-ring when using the K6 in manual mode. It affects the rotation.
Great content CY. Have you tried the Space GTY or Data, and any comments on the WDG Milo grinders?
I actually have the Space model and it's great.
The machine has dual thermal blocks but only 1 pump. A single block machine will need a minute or so to go from brew to steam temperature where as the Dual block requires no heat up or cool down time between brewing and steaming. It saves a little bit of time but you will have to do one at a time, not both at once.
Man, I'm using the itop Skywalker with an Arduino mod for artisan. While this is a different roaster, this has helped soon much with understanding artisan lol. Thank you🙏
Very nice video, but one thing bugged me during the whole thing, why didn't you simply prepare the two grinders at identical grind size before starting to record? I am just a beginner, but surely that will affect everything? brewing speed, nuances, bitterness, muddy bed, and last but not least, taste. :)
I think you are right on user error I have had my DF54 for months with daily use for both espresso and pourover and never had one incidence of choking or clogging, the de-ioniser needs a tiny artists paintbrush up the chute to clean off the prongs after 2 or 3 uses to keep static under control. retention is always sub 0.2g and anyone thinking of getting this DO IT, I also have a NIche Zero for 2 years and use both daily as I like to compare conical and flat burr coffee profiles.
Hi CY, enjoyed watching.
Thank you Gwen and as always appreciate your support!
ribet amat om...perkara bikin kopi doang...
I understand that coffee is not that complicated. ☕ To make good coffee, it takes some effort.
I constantly get the "Push water tank" error even though I push the tank all the way in to its limit. Any idea how to fix this, I haven't been able to use my machine because of this error.
Me too
It is likely that your capacitive water level sensor has gone wrong. To fix it, you need to peel off the sticker covering the hole on the side and press the button under it with the container removed. A strip will run across the screen. Then interrupt the process by unplugging the wire from the socket. Next, insert the container with water, plug it in and watch the strip run across the screen again. It runs and will be calibrated. Use it.
