    Truly appreciate you guys checking out my video and hanging out. In all honesty, I have been very impressed with this grinder. I have used it a ton for about 4 months now and it still works great. The speed of the E&B Burrs are just amazing. I feel like for the price I paid I really got a solid product. Would love to have a Comandante one day but just can't quite drop that amount of money yet. If I have any issues with the Timemore slim in the future I will definitely let you know.

    I got the slim nano with the E&B burrs a couple of months ago and I'm very happy with it so far. I tend to do a fairly fine grind for Aeropress and its pretty quick. It has the fancy folding handle which looks nice but I would prefer a different design as the body of the grinder fits in my press but the handle won't, I'll probably take the time to make a new one on my lathe but most won't have the tools to do that.

    Thanks for the review! Question for you: I notices you have an ibriq behind you for Turkish-style coffee. Does the Timemore Slim grind fine enough for Turkish coffee? You said that with the new set of burrs you got you were able to get espresso sized grinds, but were you able to go any finer than that for Turkish?

    • @RobPirieCedarOtaCoffee
      @RobPirieCedarOtaCoffee  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it could but I will be honest, I am not sure. I haven’t actually tried the Ibiriq enough to know what quality is from it. And I really don’t have anyone that lives around me with knowledge about it to try and learn. Def want to get better with it though.

    Thanks to this video, I recently bought the Slim + E&B burrs to use with an AeroPress (also a first for me) while traveling. Oh man, I’ve been enjoying so much delicious iced coffee on the road with this setup!
    At home I have a Fellow Ode + SSP burrs and I brew with a v60, and I kinda don’t want to go back to using that even though it’s excellent.

      Haha that’s so cool to hear. I have been wanting to get an electric set up. Do you think the Ode is worth it?

    • @libartstech
      @libartstech 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@RobPirieCedarOtaCoffee It depends. At $300 with stock burrs, it’s an okay grinder that is best suited for immersion or large batch brews. I bought it because of its relatively compact size (counter space is at a premium in my kitchen), but I really struggled to get good results with it when brewing light-to-medium roasts through a v60. The SSP burrs, however, took it too a whole other level. It’s truly night-and-day. I don’t know if this makes much sense, but to me it is a much better value at $500 than it is at $300, but I know not everyone can justify that. Fellow supposedly has new stock burrs coming out this year and I’ve heard good things about them. I wouldn’t blame anyone for waiting and seeing how those turn out first.

    How do you think this compares to the Knock Aergrind? I feel like this grinder gets such underwhelming reviews, even after the E&B burr upgrade...and it's such a steal at that price. It always gets compared to hand grinders which are at least a third of the price more which is slightly pointless. It won't take you to the Espresso Olympics, but it looks perfect for people who like coffee, and want to work on appreciating it a little bit better than a beginner would. Portability is a plus too! Nicely done. I should probably switch to a hand grinder because every time I use my electric one.. it startles guests at our house. They are like whoa what was that? And Jens like oh that’s just Eric making his second or third French press of the day lol. Great editing! Love those 120 b-rolls. Curious about the clicks. Does that increase the tension of the grinder?

    • @RobPirieCedarOtaCoffee
      @RobPirieCedarOtaCoffee  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Haha! Ya the hand grinders are more quiet but they still can be kind of loud in the mornings if everyone is sleeping. But but the 3rd French press who really cares what people think you know! haha The clicks just determine how fine or course the grind is going to be. If you start on at the bottom the burrs are basically touching and as you increase the clicks it moves the burrs further away from each other causing the coffee to become more course. The Spring just keeps everything tight inside the housing. Hope that makes sense. Thanks for watching my friend!

      Even with the neo pressurised basket you still need a fairly fine grind, (I have the pressurised and non pressurised) I would not recommend the c2 it will take ten mins to grind anywhere near close. What is the difference between the E&B burr and the S2C burr?

  • @ZELLKRATOR
    @ZELLKRATOR 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Hey, great video, greetings from Germany.
    I had nearly the same issue. I have an espresso machine, not that expensive, but it works good, very good to be honest, if you know how to deal with some stuff, you don't experience with expensive machines. So I needed a grinder. I just saw the c2 that time and bought it. I used mostly 8 clicks and yeah it took a while. Like 10 minutes for me. Don't know why there is such a difference between your experience and mine, but it's correct, it took a while. 😅 But the grind was pretty decent, I would have to buy an 250€ or more expensive electric machine to get the same results. So now I bought the slim plus, but because there are scratches in my c2 and I thought, why buying the same, if there is something faster. Got it today and holy shit the difference is incredible. The c2 with normal burrs did (and will do, love it) an incredible good job for a handgrinder. Yeah it takes a lot of time, but the powder is even, very fine and overall it's great. But the new burrs... 8 clicks half a minute... I don't even know, how this few changes can make such a difference.
    For home espresso I think I will go for the slim plus. Actually the c2 is better for traveling. Even the slim plus is called slim, it's kinda big. It's larger but thinner and I think, the width is not the problem for traveling, it's the height. So I will go with c2 (except I having fun and time to grind a lot) for traveling and Aeropress and use the slim plus for espresso.🤗
    Edit: but there is one difference, that's kinda strange. While the c2 with the normal burrs grinds kinda smooth and gets smoother and easier to use as finer you go, the slim plus, is kinda hard to use. I mean it's still easy but you feel way more resistance and it's definitely louder and that's still fact, if the beans already cracked into pieces.
    In the c2 it's just the first turn, cracking the beans and after that on fine it's like grinding without resistance. Strange.

    • @RobPirieCedarOtaCoffee
      @RobPirieCedarOtaCoffee  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ya I am about to pull the trigger on the 1Zpresso JX and I am anxious to see the differences as far as the resistance and the noise. I don’t really have anything else to base it on at the moment so that will be fun. Thanks so much for watching buddy and thanks for the feedback and experience!

    Just bought this on prime day. This is my first time buying a proper grinder. Quick question, how do you clean hand grinders when you get them first out of the box? I’m assuming that it probably has some chemicals from the manufacturing process. Can the grinder be washed with water? Or should I just wash it with uncooked rice (saw this on google)?

    • @RobPirieCedarOtaCoffee
      @RobPirieCedarOtaCoffee  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey buddy! Don’t wash with water and I would not run anything through the grinder but coffee. You can take it apart and wipe it down real good with a paper towel to get any residue off. Then I usually grind about 100 grams of coffee through it. That may be over kill but the coffee will help clean it some. I discard that coffee. So if you have any old bags of coffee not used just run it through there real quick and then wipe the parts all down good. Should be good to go after that. That’s actually a good video idea. “How to clean a hand grinder”. Hope that helps.

    I have even the cheaper version from Timemore, it was the Chesnut C2 and it came with the standard burr. I use it mainly for grinding pour over and sometimes moka pot brew when I want stronger cup of coffee. Do you recommend to upgrade the burr on my C2?
    Did you notice any improvement on the grind consistency for the coarser setting? Since Timemore claims the E&B produce 20% less fines on the coarser settings.

    I use the cheaper Timemore Chestnut C2 grinder and that makes great moka pot coffee at about 14 clicks with the regular steel burrs. Mainly I use it in the office with my aeropress on 15-16 clicks.
    I didn’t go for the E&B set because I grind a little coarser than most for moka pot and I don’t make espresso at home.
    I’m very happy with the grinder.

    • @RobPirieCedarOtaCoffee
      @RobPirieCedarOtaCoffee  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      That was kind of what I found. The E&B were only really better in terms of speed on the finer grind levels. Above 13 clicks I could barely tell a difference in both burrs. The E&B were still a tad faster but it was not enough to really notice unless you were timing it. I would have never gotten the E&B if it was not for getting into espresso. I do like how one of the C2 options can fold up. I wish the slim had that feature too. Thanks so much for watching my friend! Have a great weekend!

      @@RobPirieCedarOtaCoffee I wanna be direct. All manual coffee grinder are very bad incluse the 1Zpresso! Because for grinding 18 g for a espresso it takes 18 minutes! If you want moka! Perhaps is less but is a lot of time! All these grinders are for American coffee! If you want do moka like me! You should consider an electrical one! There are 5 level. All are good but different in performance! The first level is a range from 30` €-to 50€ and is the best level if you want to save money or search big quality with little money. Last level 5 is a range from 1000€ to 7000€ and is the only very good grinder it will last forever! The most convenient in my opinion are Casadio or Ceado! Others level are garbage! Because you pay a lot ( Niche zero or Baratza for example)and they will break immediately in the best case! 1 level will last more and if breaks you buy another! Because is cheap!
