  • Taking an Anson belt strap and giving it a custom Cognac museum patina to try to match my Vass museum cap toe oxfords. I was quite pleased how this turned out and will have a number of other Anson belt patinas to post up later. Let me know what you think?

Lovely video. My favorite part was seeing how you created the museum affect with the various colors and applicators.

Thank you very much. Its just a matter of layering the different colors and patterns to get the effect you want. It always looks pretty terrible the first few layers but once you get a few on there the pattern starts to look nice. This style of patina takes quite a while but I really love the results of it.

Great job with the belt matching the shoes. Although I'm not in your league, I occasionally patina my own shoes as a hobby. I learned to use Back 4 conditioner to great effect watching your videos so many thanks for that.

Never thought about the belt side of things. Great way to get a beautiful belt to match the shoes. Probably wise to send a belt with the shoes when really going to a custom look.
    Nice work!

I really appreciate it. With belts it doesn't really have to be exact which is why custom belts are a little less common. You can get away with close when it comes to belts. Personally though I really like to have an exact match whenever possible. I don't have quite as many belts as I do shoes...but I still have quite a few.

@@mbshoedoc funny note I was just watching your review on shoe snob. Cool stuff! Didn't realize you are an actual doctor just thought it was a cool name! Love your passion has taken you this far with shoes. I am a doctor of chiropractic actually. Your work will keep me on the well dressed side of things! Wow, you still practice at all? Sorry for the 20 questions just a cool insight I had no clue of haha.

@@josephheinecke1992 Yes sir, full time OD during the week. I've been doing the shoe restorations for maybe 4 years, the TH-cam thing for closer to 2 and the Michael Darren Shoes brand will be coming up to the two year anniversary in a few months. And you gotta have some strong shoe game as a Chiro...while they are laying face down on that table you can't have them looking at some cheap ugly monstrosities! 😂

I have an AE , as new alligator embossed brown belt. I’m hoping to
redye to match a NIB Park Avenue
In Burgundy. I use Saphir. Now I’m
Looking at patinating a few pair.
I curated western saddles from a now closed museum. It’s a art to preserve original condition and not over restore- a problem with fine cars, firearms, furniture and facing the mirror in the morning.

It probably can get close match but a lighter walnut belt is an easier starting point. The darker the leather the harder it is to change the color.

I may reverse myself and match shoes to the belt LOL.
AE formerly had a pedestrian milk chocolate brown in the 70-80s I got a lot of mileage with that simple base

Every time I pour the leather color dye liquid like that it always falls on my gloves or table.

    • @mbshoedoc
      @mbshoedoc  ปีที่แล้ว

Aaaah that's the power of video editing my friend 😂. I spill dye a solid 80% of the time. Not usually on the table but it runs down the side of the plastic bottle and then I grab it and get it on the glove and then I spread that all over the entire work area before I realize what's happening.
