I dislike consoles just because of the need to make "better" graphics, wich aren't actually better since we are on the point of deminishing returns, we are basically only making games run worst without actually making them look better.
Yeah lots of fun with the AI companions. CC tend to bring the best of the last game over in some form to the next in the series so I’m really hoping the AI system makes some kind of return. Or some kind of system for training buddy’s but for our new Mount or mounts
@@mikesanders5433rise was more of a testing game, it has a lot of new mechaics and has things it did better than world and worse than world, Wilds will either combine the good things or try new things to finally produce the peak of monster hunter. (this came from someone who never played monster hunter)
I have played every single game since Monster Hunter frontier back in the early PSP days. While I completely agree with your take on rise versus world personally, one of the things that series veterans will always tell you is that every installment is different, and each of them has its good and bad points. My fond hope is that the internet vitriol in this debate does not discourage the developers from continuing to take risks and try new things to evolve the series with each new release.
I started playing MH4U with one of my best friends and we spent hours playing it. I have fond memories of him teaching me simple things like throwing paint balls at the monster, how the wycoon worked, how to grind for armor for my charge blade, and how to fight the Rathian. He also explained how elemental damage worked. I fondly remember most of what we did. Then I moved on to MHW, and my friend told me that Capcom had made it even more streamlined. He also suggested that I try it myself and make up my own mind based on my experience. So I listened to my friend. To be honest, I tried MHW and I didn't like how much they streamlined and simplified MHW. I recently came back to it and I still don't like MHW. I'll admit that I'm a bit biased though, because: 1 I started with MH4U 2 I created very cherished memories with the game, maybe one of my happiest times playing something ever I'm on the fence deciding if I should give Rise a try.
Rise/Sunbreak was my 1st MH, and it's a phenomenal game. But like all games it ran out of content so I stopped playing. Been getting into World now and it's really good too, both game have pros and cons and I'm loving both. But since I'm a gameplay simp, I'm just gonna say that I like Rise better, also fashion options in Rise is way better tbh.
World was my first MH game and it made me fall in love the series and community, it was my best gaming experience since Sonic games when I was little. But Rise's combat does it more for me, I have so many options and its really fast wich I love. I still come back to MH World every now and then because its just so immersive and sometimes it gives me nostalgia cause my life has changed so much since I got it for my birthday that it feels like a lifetime ago.
As a CB main, going from World to Rise is a bit of a disappointment, having to choose between what was a basic function (Condensed Element Slash), and the chainsaw added with Iceborne (Spinning Element Slash in Rise). And the SES in Rise *deactivates* if you sheathe your weapon. It only deactivates in World if you run out of phials, making for a more interesting and enjoyable gameplay experience.
Monster Hunter Tri will always be the best Monster Hunter and 2nd was Monster Hunter Online, Monster Hunter Online was one of the greatest Monster hunter games ever made, its gone now sadly but with the english patch it was the Best Monster Hunter game ever made and Monster Hunter Online should come back for everyone
I don't really care who enjoys what monster hunter game. The issue starts when some players of world dislike the next monster hunter title because it's not monster hunter world with a new coat of paint and that's one of the reason's rise gets shit on allot

As someone who much prefer Rise/Sunbreak over World/Iceborne. You are not the only one and I thiank you for making this video as I too keep running all these video proclaiming how great going back to world is and I'm just left scratching my head.
As much as I love both World and Rise, I really want to go back to 4U and maybe play some Gen again. 4U is the game I started with almost 10 years ago and I honestly wouldn't mind playing through it again for the third time to gold crown. The thing that's rough though is the gameplay difference going backwards. Rise offers a lot of verticality and movement that I've gotten really used to from playing it a lot; world has the clutch claw and the slinger (I miss the slinger in Rise tbh); generations has the different hunting styles and being able to play as a palico (I just found it funny); and 4U introduces the mounting system along with insect glaive. Similarly with weapons we lose some things that are just fun to have going to previous games like the gunlance movesets that my friend enjoys a lot in Rise. If I had it, I definitely would play more 3U because the underwater combat system albeit difficult at first was just fun to have and I want to fight the Great Ceadus that my brother loves as one of his favorite monsters. All in all, I think it's just preferential on what monster hunter game to play and enjoy. They're all good.
Problem is: slapping world good rise bad = views and approval from part of the community. Besides world has a bigger fanbase and it's safer to throw shit at rise. Sunbreak should be considered an alternative to world cause it has unique qualities, instead people act like returning to world is the only right choice.
U sound like its all just numbers and rise is just the better game. The better game makes numbers bro. I loves MHW and played the shit out of it. I was so happy when they announced MH Rise and instantly bought it. Played my fair share, but it didnt catch me. Not saying its a bad game, but it wasnt as good as MHW. Maybe being on switch was part of the reason. Im happy the new MH game will be on next gen again!
@@Thomazbr avatar was the pinnacle of cinema movies because it was the first movie that did give the viewers an impressive 3D immersion. U cant deny that that played a huge role. A lot people were only there for the 3D.
@@Thomazbr and also i dont know what truth ur searching for. Its not that mhw is just straight up better in every aspect. Both were great games. But mhw for me was one of the greatest games the past years. And majority of people seem to agree with that, thats why i say that mhw is better.
I can understand the point of "not knowing where you are" in world, everyone does😂 but for me, after hours... I finally know where everything is. (except ancient forest ofc). To me, it felt like a challenge, and i felt accomplished finally being able to know where everything is... idk if thats bad but oh well... anyway, im not trying to cover and say world is better , I like them both equally. I enjoy the slowness of world AND fast pace of rise. If it works it works in my opinion.
I personally think the Hoarfrost Reach and Coral Highlands are well designed and easy to navigate, as long as you stay in the maps the monsters follow. Ancient Forest and Rotten Vale are just terrible however.
Great video! Personally, my view of it is this: World, as one of the mainline games, is made more to be an experience. Something you sit down and get immersed into. Rise, as one of the portable games, has a more arcade feel. It's streamlined for you to get into the action quicker, and that action is more over the top. Both have their merits and I find myself alternating between them.
@@crono4995meh even as a world newcomer, i learned about this split between the portable and mainline games pretty early on but maybe thats just me. i tend to watch a lot of videos and like researching tips and actually learning about the games i play so who knows maybe others just arent like that.
The split between the mainline and portable teams doesn’t exist anymore btw. The two teams merged when they were creating MH Rise. That doesn’t mean that there are not different affinities within that huge team and thus not every developer worked on both Iceborne and Rise, but it does mean that the split team philosophy doesn’t exist anymore in the form people think of.
As an adult with lesser time to play but still wants to delve into this franchise, after researching, I find Rise to be the better option for me as it requires lesser grind commitment but still experience the MH experience.
MHW doesn't require that much grinding, tbf. You can wear the same armor set up until late high rank, when it might be a good idea to switch to something with skills that better suit your weapon and playstyle. Some people keep the defender set equipped up until Iceborne, which is the point when you really need to get better gear. I went through all of the base game with little to no grinding and now that I'm in Iceborne, I still find that I don't need to scout for specific materials all that much thanks to a plethora of features that streamline the process (safaris, the Argosy, the plunderblade, melding, etc.). Playing with others can also make the quests go by in an instant, which is very easy to get into thanks to the SOS system. World might be slow and methodical, but that doesn't mean it's a slog 😆
Very bold(and based) of you to say you prefer Rise over World while everyone else is proudly saying they dropped Rise to go back. Honeslty for me I like both games equally, seems like I'm one of the few that can enjoy the fast paced arcade-y gameplay of Rise and the more immersive, grounded and weighty feel of World on even footing. I look forward to MH6, knowing that it might be closer to World in feel than Rise. So at this point it's just preference, and for me the biggest reason I prefer Rise over World is the monster roster. Rise has a far more diverse selection of monsters to hunt, I like its original cast of yokai and horror themed monsters more than World's originals, and it brought back old monsters I like that didnt make it to World, such as Miztsune, Astalos, the Magala family, Amatsu, and my favorite monster, Valstrax. Also can't forget the surprise inclusion of Espinas.
@@Potato_Kuna I find the opposite rise because of the wire bug made it too easy to dodge around and mount your enemies and felt fast for the sake of it, stuff like Temporal in mhw came much much later in game and even clutch Claw doesn't nearly as broken design wise to the Point you can't beat bosses without it (until tenderizing which OOF). I do think they should keep Palamutes so you can travel around faster across distances tho and keep the customizable Moves from rise but the speed of mhw (wilds) should be slower combat wise with more focus on learning patterns and skillfully dodging
I adore them both, and I flip flop between them because there are weapons I prefer to play in World (believe it or not, plus we just started a new save) but Rise’s quick and fun combat will always draw me back. My buddies and I kinda just play whichever one we want. Not to mention we started MHGU a couple months ago! I love this series too much man. Cheers from another CB main!
Curious what your thoughts are on Charge Blade. I started playing Rise with friends and was just getting ruined using the CB. Thought to myself; "there's no way it was like this in World", so I went back to World and found it noticeably easier to use and more fluid all-round.
Hi! Veteran hunter here, I played through world twice and ride twice. Rise in my opinion, always feels better for me. I came from mh 1 and loved the series ever since. Tri was the game that got me truly in the game, so I think I might have a bias for the remakes of 3rd Gen maps, but tbh, all of it is great. Rise has way more to do than just farm Fatalis and get bored when nothing is challenging. Not saying world is all about its endgame, but it still sucks to have a build you wanna make and just have it be full Fatalis. Rise has so so much more. For example, you could mix amatsu’s set, with primordial’s set to have a bit more fun. Not to mention world has a worse endgame in the long run for me. TLDR: I’m a veteran that likes both games, but I enjoy rise’s endgame at the end of the day a lot better.
Never left one of these comments before, but I was so surprised I was watching a new channel instead of a big MH one, great video. Hope to see more content soon brother
You earned my sub. I am so glad that you pointed out the visual clutter! This, plus the lack of wirebugs make it so hard for me to play World. Actually before rise, I stopped playing world because of the visual clutter. I played world for about 170h and rise for about 700h so yeah.
World was my first, and I thoroughly enjoyed my first and only play through and grind events prob had around 400 hours, but I could not imagine doing it all over again. I got Rise & Sunbreak recently and I like that it's more straightforward with quicker hunts, less story, and faster combat. The silkbinds are cool it helps weapons feel more dynamic / personalized. Combat is the real draw for me I'm enjoying it learning bow.

I'm personally a MHR fan. I tried World, and it was definitely fun, but I didn't like how long hunts took - especially later on. I really don't like the clutch claw, if I'm being completely honest. It's frustrating to get the hang of, and absolutely mandatory for G rank. As for Rise, it was my very first Monster Hunter game, and the first game I managed to conquer. I have my best sets made and I have most monster patterns memorized. I feel very accomplished and strong in Rise. Sure, I can develop that same thing in World, but I suppose the pacing is... Not a great match? Again, I hate clutch claw. As of now, Rise is my favorite of the two.
I dont know what to say, I agree on everything you said. When I started playing world I felt overwhelmed and decided to quit rapidly, Rise let me enter the world of MH in a more accessible way and i finally understood why everyone loves this game so much. Now you made me wanna hop back into the game so bad ahahahah Ill definetely be playing some Rise again
yea I came back to play rise a second time, and i have beat my first magnamalo and I still haven't even died yet. As a souls player it feels weird to win every time
Most of the "normies" that got introduced to Monster Hunter through World don't actually enjoy MH as a series, they're just fans of World, meanwhile Rise is basically a modernized MonHun gameplay loop, picking up where Generations left off.
I don't know about that. I think it's just that a part of world's fans refuse to give a fair opportunity to older ganes or even rise just cause of the graphic. I guess immersion to them is the main selling point.
@@asnor7588 that's basically what i said lol MH was never about "the immersion" it's an arcade, execution heavy, spectacle fighter with an hint of boss rush sprinkled in. Therefore people that like MHWorld aren't necessarily MH fans.
I believe this as well. Like DS2 as an example. DS2 and MHW are both pretty bad games in their series. But there is a fanbase for these games that will never let the game go because it was their first.
I dont really have anything to add to the discussion of the topic in the video, so I'm gonna drop a fun fact I won't shut up about. Dogs are extremely linked to the hunter - their attack patterns are chosen by your own, and certain actions you perform affect how they also act. If you guard with a shielded weapon, they enter a guard pose (even gaining Power Guard if using the Parasol), and unique to Greatsword, they can also charge their attacks while you charge your own. They also have a habit of dodging in the same direction you do (you dodge left, they go left, etc.) Watch your dogs a little when you play, you'd be surprised how much sauce they've had
i noticed that my first day on this week. i crouched and my dog and cat both crouched. thought that was cool. then i say how they kinda combo'd with me. the big dinos kinda do the same thing with the additionals they summon. i got hit by a synchronized tail slam from 1 big dino and 2 small ones with the big one in the middle. pretty cool
I think the issue is with switch skills making the game much easier. Rise is so so so much more forgiving with the amount of mobility you have to correct your mistakes. World is so much more punishing and makes you put more thought into the actions you make because recovery from them is very hard if you mess up.
See the "put more thought into your actions" doesn't quite apply when you basically approach the monster the same mind set in world. Find a open area, trap it, beat it to death. There's no actual skills like hunter arts or switch skills so you'll be doing the basic combat loop over and over. (This is coming from 120 hour world player) also having to time I frames isn't fun either, unlike MHGU which allowed you to do a perfect dodge on some weapons and hunter styles.
@strider7198 which is why I would prefer it was refined and polished with the quality of life that world and Rise brings. I know Capcom has always been one to test new things with each installment, but they could make it more refined. Imagine hunter arts within world gameplay.
Rise is an innovative but flawed MH game. Sunbreak, tho, is one of the best experiences I had with MH in general, with a more satisfying endgame than Iceborne. I will always hand it to people that prefer World for its... well, world. It's definitely the best one, by far. But Rise:Sunbreak is such an easy to pickup and play with your friends game, the multiplayer is so much smoother, the AI companions are great, the weapons look cooler much sooner and the wirebug/switch skill system is a freaking blast to play with. Also, your gameplay loop doesn't involve being stuck to a monster 30% of the time, looking for nuts on the ground to shoot or waiting for monster to de-rage to smack them on the wall again. All the power to the hunters that prefer MHW, but I'll stick with Sunbreak as my go to until Wilds comes out.
While I do prefer World over Rise, I respect anyone that thinks otherwise. Both games have incredible vibes and their own unique mechanics. I’ve put 1,800 hours into World/Iceborne and 1,200 into Rise/Sunbreak so I love both games, although they both have some major downsides, namely clutch claw in World and wyvern riding in Rise. World just does it for me though. First MH game I played with friends since starting with Tri. Anyway, good vid!
i just miss the size of the monsters in world and interactions they have with the environment, that alone is good reason to prefer world and the food looked SOOO GOOD! in world you just feel so very small in the colossal scale of world and its inhabitants i actually have both games on my hard drive :)
i played world/iceborne a lot and i love it. but rise/sunbreak has a lot of improvements when it comes to movement at combat. the palamute and wire bug are the reasons why i find it hard to return to world/iceborn.
Rise/Sunbreak is honestly amazing man. If MH6 isn't out by the time I'm done with my second playthrough of world/iceborne. I'll go back to Sunbreak and finally grind out the anomaly quests lol.
Thanks for this! I tried World and really felt that the combat was way too slow for me, I'm hoping I'll enjoy the mobility & fast combat in rise a lot more! :D
I'm not a series veteran, but had occasion to hunt a few monsters in MH Freedom Unite from PSP and my feeling is that MH Rise is more of a successor to that idea of a game than it is to MH World. I do like both games because in the end both are still Monster Hunter, but I'm currently playing World over Rise. Not necessarily because I like World more, but it's just where my friends are at the moment. And it's hard to be playing both titles alternately since they are both so similar yet so different at the same time.
as someone who is a veteran i disagree. MHW has far more in common spiritually with the earlier generations than Rise. Freedom Unite had great emphasis on ecology, even to the point of making fully cinematic shorts for a lot of its monsters. The only thing I can say Rise has more similarities with it over World is the simpler graphics and a smaller hub. Everything else from the combat to the tone is VERY different from Freedom Unite.
i’m over here playing portable 3rd and now i reaally want to play Rise. This jumping bug thing and the fluent gameplay appeals just so much more to me.
Agree, after playing sunbreak. The combat in world just seems less. Every weapon has less moves.. less combos.. less difficulty. But I do miss the maps and actually investigating monsters before a hunt. Hoping wilds combines the two.
less difficulty???????????? did you entirely forget about wirebugs and switch skills??????????????????????????????????????????????????????? they made weapons so easy to dominate with in rise the learning curve vanished you dont even have to combo into your best moves
@@dyinggiraffe2922Switch skills give every weapon a lot more to do than any other game. I don't agree with World being less difficult but Rise def has more combat options and possible combos
I started on Tri, then after too many years bought world and got a lot of fun, finished iceborn, etc. And I have to say Rise felt a refresher, Haven't finished yet but wirebug is a blessing. Too bad it's not coming back. I liked rise graphics, made the monster look a little bit cartoonish but still a little realistic
The combat in Risebreak is the best it's ever been. People can enjoy the slower combat of World and the other games, but the switch skills in particular just give the combat so much depth and risk/reward. Learning a weapon is like learning a character action game now, and I hope they keep going with this philosophy. I can't go back (I've tried several times) and I don't mind. Also Fiorayne
what i like about Rise/SB is the comabt too. It made me try out various weapons and feels a bit more fun to do. The smaller maps does help in not getting lost but it does feel constraining at times. MHW is i feel the gathering/hunting has more "weight" to it. But if MH6 comes out, I wonder if they'll combine both good features of each game (both were made by two different teams).
I do like a lot of the stuff in rise (other than the buff birds) but one thing I never see people bring up about rise over world is one very small change that makes a huge difference in how the game feels. the movement is tighter in rise. start running in a straight line in both games, then start swerving left and right, you make the turns noticeably sharper in rise, without it feeling like you're pivoting unrealistically. I hope in the next game they replace the string bugs (or whatever they were called) with an actual tool that does most of the same stuff, I like what they did mechanically but I'm not a fan of them thematically. and as a sword and shield main, it just feels so damn good in rise.
Feel free to call me an old timer since I grew up with MHFU I'd personally could do without neither the crutch claw nor the wirebugs. I got used to both but never... Enjoyed them. I did however enjoy the attempts to make a more proper difficulty curve rather than making the game too hard from the very beginning, as well as meal effects that vanish on carting no longer being a thing on RIse (the rewards decrease always made sense to me but never the meal effect vanishing unless you had some variation of Foodie). Being able to change/restock mid-quest is something I also have no problem with (I wonder if this is my hottest take on all of this). I also wish I could go back to MHFU's lack of appraisable items, so literally every piece of equipment and decorations were crafted from materials rather than appraised. This basically meant there's ALMOST zero blaming on luck (the luck part just being the materials) for not being ready enough for a quest. I also like that for Rise isn't as black & white for its endgame equipment as World... Or more specifically Sunbreak vs Iceborne. I'm sure other MH games had this problem but it seems that none were as severe as Iceborne. I think in a way, the whole being able to use but never feeling right at home with them when it comes to crutch claw, wirebugs and hunter arts. Sounds similar to The Huntsman, now that I think of it. In fact when I went back from Rise to World I adjusted to the lack of wirebugs INSTANTLY. The slinger and crutch claw did take a lot to readjust to in constrast.
@@JoelHernandez-tz3vk I *Definetly* agree on the account items part omigosh I tought no one ever agreed with me on that. Especially with how much more detailed and fun to explore the newer maps are, it is a shame that the way the game is structured actively discourages you from doing that. Gathering is underrated!
I much prefer world because it delivers a grounded immersive monster hunting experience. While on the other hand rise is the complete opposite it’s gameplay is fast paced and the combat is flashy and carries much less weight. Which for me provides an overall less enjoyable monster hunter experience but to each there own.

Im a MH veteran from MHFU, and also played world and the things i miss the most is the challenge in gathering, hunting that the game used to have before all the QoL changes, they sure makes the game a lot more comfy but takes away a lot of the accoplishment of making progress into the game, i didnt played rise for the only reason that the game style shifted into destroying monster rather then hunting them, by saying this i mean there is a lot of mechanics that makes the hunter very agile but doesnt match the challenge of the monsters, sure in the endgame there might be some challenge but the slow peace that MHFU was more appealing because you had to grind a bit each time the difficulty increased to match the armor to the monster difficulty and from what i felt from MHW and from what i could tell, all the latest MH is that the time you need to build an armorset or weapon is not rewarding as it was in the older generations, mainly because there wasnt so munch affordable mistakes like now, no infinite potions, no drinking while moving, sharpness was a struggle but it felt like a human trying to fight a monster and not a DMC style action game, but i mean these are just taste tho i wish they could remake MHFU remastered with the graphics of world and i could play it for ever i swear.
Dial further back to OG MH, and you will understand that Kaname literally reimagined his first game with Worldborne. And also, anyone can choose by the own will to stop walking while drinking potion. Its on the players and not the game.
I definitely agree, my last MH game was 4U and then rise, currently trying world. And there's so much comfort that takes away from the game. I know devs wanted to make the game more appealing to newcomers but at what cost?
@@arapaimagold8088 I mean i wont be consistant as having an animation going on like old MH its not really the same, maybe if there was an option to disable it, that would be great but otherwise how am i supposted to have fun when i have to force myself to do this? like saying everytime u drink a potion stand still for 2.5 seconds then u might roll? or every 5 time is use the whetstone i must walk back to the acampment to simulate myself picking it from the chest? sry but that just RPing lol there is no real reason to do that, you can play the way u want but if MH teached me when i played it for the first time is to be efficient and i cannot force myself to do otherwise, if the game gives me the chance to make the most out of it i'll do , if it gives me nothing i'l try something else, give me back my tigrex at the starter mission to scare the fk out of novice hunters.

Fucking hell man, the community really is bending the way the wind blows isn't it? Back when Rise released, I said I liked Rise, but I felt world was the better game, and I got completely SHIT on for that opinion. And now when the recency bias has died down, people are migrating back to world again. Most people don't actually have real opinions I swear to god.
Nice perspective. I have to say I enjoy rise more than world myself as well. I totally get the strengths of each, but I find that I can get more hunts completed in the same time in rise over world. When trying to find a specific low drop rate part, I want to clear hunts fast. The first time I am encountering a monster or mission, it is fun to experience the build up and flow in it's entirety. On subsequent runs though I kinda just wanna get to the good stuff. Rise does a good job on the first run, but makes repeat runs much more streamlined.
Better Weapon design and more Monster Variety helps also better designed maps like I don't give a flying fuck that World feels more "Alive" the maps sucks where I get lost more than finding and hunting the monster
i prefer sunbreak over worldborne too. i mean, world is amazing esp. the kulve taroth thing they did.. but damn. its a struggle to find a monster for me even with the fun scoutfly mechanic. i hate traversing a 3 layer map chasing a rathalos in a forest full of vines in your face. but i still love world because they made single player scaling possible

Irecently checked my Rise data on PS4, after playing World for quite a while (~375H), I suddenly rralized, Rise' menu and mechanics resemble the old games.more than what World established. That's why when I switched from Rise to World last June, I couldn't find the loadout section at first, unlike how I remeber it, it was in the menu just like in Rise. Now, I appreciate both games...
You pretty much nailed my feelings. I think World is just the better game overall. But I just cannot go back after Rise. The speed and mobility makes going back feel awful. The environments in World, exploring and tracking was amazing... until it was time to just fight and grind. And that's when the raw gameplay in Rise of instantly dropping in and knowing where the monster is immediately to just brawl made running quests (especially co-op) just faster and overall more enjoyable for me and my friends where time to play together is more limited as we all get older.
I've been a long time MonHun player, and definitely prefer World over Rise. Just as you said, the more grounded and weighty feel of the game is exactly what does it for me, and learning all of the complex maps and how to best get from point A to B is extremely satisfying, but I do have to admit that there's a certain enjoyment that comes from Rise's goofy anime feel, I just wish it wasn't always consistently anime, and struck a bit more of a balance between main line and spinoff like how GU did
I feel this too. Rise just feels arcade-ish compared to the rest of the titles. I HATE a lot of the maps on Rise too. Just way to many needless levels to them because of the Wirebug.
Lol GU is the least serious. It's more anime goofy and light hearted than rise. As someone who's been with the series for a while you should know this. Don't you remember the GU village ending with the stupid girls and cats dancing?
I started with Rise and now I'm going backwards to WorldBorne and GU. Rise is absolutely my favorite due to the sheer variety of how you can build and play. That experimentation is what makes the game fun for me.

Thank you for making this video. I cannot tell you how many videos I've run into talking about the migration back to World like it's the only MH title out there. With the driving point of World feeling like an actual world while Rise doesn't. Newer fans need to appreciate what each game stood for and that none were direct continuations of others. Both games did their own thing- giving different experiences.
seriously tho, every title tries to do something different outside of GU being the last hurrah of the old gen this notion that these games are created in mind of being direct continuations of each other (outside of the expansions) is really annoying and something i’ve noticed world players specifically talking about
@@esteboi3858 Real. Idk if it just gets overlooked, but Rise/Sunbreak are so different in tone and aesthetic, it felt like I was playing two completely different games. A great comparison would be the Narwa fight of base Rise and Gaismagorm in base Sunbreak. They somehow made both Japan and European aesthetics coincide with one another without it looking like a garbled mess.
@@MiteSprite oh i honestly completely agree and you need to give that team a lot of credit for it. not to say iceborne doesn’t have an artstyle, it more than certainly does but the art direction it took wasn’t as bold as sunbreak’s that just completely broke off into a different game like you said! every MH has something pretty valuable to it. it’s upsetting how judgy so many of these fans get
I started with MH Tri. This World VS Rise thing just seems so silly to me. Seeing anybody in what I saw as one of the better most friendly gaming communities try and drag an MH game is so foreign to me. I can't help but wonder if these are newer/younger fans who started with World. Anyways, despite my preference for Rise, World is still excellent and I alternate between the two. Both games are excellent. They just focus on different things.
My reason for not playing rise constantly over world right now: after getting to anomaly rank 300 is a chore and it kinda burnt me out of rise's combat. after killing over 50 risen shagaru it kinda burnt me out even tho the magala's are my favorite line of monsters. switched to rise after finishing maxing out my kulve taroth weapons too so it's a cycle of being burnt out by one game then switching for me.Also 6:51 may i suggest rocksteady and temporal mantle in this trying time?
As a hbg main anomaly 200+ was damn near impossible and I felt burnt out so I added a follower mod and infinite ammo mod and it’s still super hard but it’s fun and keeps me playing so I suggest adding mods if you feel like you don’t want to play anymore.
Well, that's definitely a hot take. But ngl if u have 170+ hours in mhworld you should prolly know where your going(except the ancient forest like wth I never know where tf I'm going).
I too thought it was isnane how it seemed like everyone loved World and hated Rise for... Whatever reason, I've been seeing these videos appear since like a few months after base Rise got it's final update, and now I see them in the recommendations again Rise was my first (and the one where I have the Master Rank expansion), so maybe I'm a little biased but even after completing World, minus Behemoth full hunt, I still like it more I feel like this whole thing is kinda like the Baldurs Gate 3 vs Spiderman 2 thing rn, they're different games made for different audiences, or in MH case made with different things in mind. So its just a thing of playing what you enjoy more. Rise is my favourite, I like dogs, the sick wirebug attacks and the fast paced combat makes my Dead Cells addict brain really happy
I don't hate one or the other but as a 100% noob to the series Rise looks like it's 5 years *older* than World. Like it came out decently successful with cheesier graphics and partial content present so you get to grind the same monster over and over to Get Bigger Number. (like in Diablo 4 or New World) Then some years later World would come out and offer the full experience with tracking, meaningful movement and a coherent well... world. That it's actually the other way around does not compute.
i can objectively say its worse in several ways, the walking animations are jank as fuck when turning and have zero feeling of weight, the graphics are severely outdated, the combat may as well just be a hack and slash with wirebugs trivializing everything, palamutes let you use items with even more mobility, much less voice acting in general, and now for my opinion the story and art was ass
Do keep in mind that technically rise are part of different branches of the series. So the next monster hunter game will likely do away with wire bugs and switch skills, but the next portable team game might bring them back in some form
idk man, as much as I love wirebug, i'm definitely in the camp of "why am i a god amongst beast" camp. The hunter is too powerful against the monsters in mhr, making every monster from the get go feel like a joke. I thought getting accustomed to the wirebug would be a challenge but instead it was just a free win move for me. So I would rather not have any more wirebug in the future. It is too versatile to the point of knockbacks are no longer punishments as they used to be. If we're going down this path, why not remove sharpening? They already removed tracking from the game. Why not remove resource gathering? Just let us buy the gear by fighting a monster and getting a ticket for that monster equipment. However I must say, fighting with a wirebug does feel great, but a bit too great in my opinion. It's like having a earplug 5 at early game kind of great. I think for the future its better to stick with worlds design but keep in tact some stuff from rise. Keep the traversal mechanics in rise, things like wall-running, wall hopping, and the whole long range wirebugs. For combat, I'd rather not have the wirebugs nor the clutch claw, but I do hope they keep the switch skills, those are dope. With map design I don't really know. With MH worlds, learning the map is like learning a monster for me. I can actually remember most of the maps, and all their weird different interactions, however things like small monsters, endemics is oblivious to me. With MH rise, I didnt even need to learn the map, but I do have to learn all the different spots to gather stuff, and monsters. I hope they can somehow lean into both, and not make the jungle too confusing for players. Your vid does give great insight though, nice vid. tl:dr >Keep traversal mechanics (wallrunning, clutch bug, etc) >don't keep combat additions except for switch skills (clutch claw, wirebug) >Keep best part of both maps (big expansive maps, less confusing layouts)
I agree about switch skills, in regards to tracking though I thought it was removed because rose is considered a “mobile” entry, so they cut some meat from the game in favor of convenience. And I for one don’t think wirebug recovery is that good. I spammed it when I was a new player but once I started leaning into wirebug skills more, I saved it most of the time and found not a big difference in terms of performance. There have been a few times it’s come in clutch at the last second but many times where I just use it and end up diving straight into an attack that wouldn’t even have hit me if I stayed down.
I enjoyed your defense of Rise and I loved watching your Charge Blade game play. I enjoy both game can decide what I like more wirebug and palamut riding or scout fly investigation and being able to use Charge Blade's condensed elemental slash and power ax mode without having to remember the switch skill switching.
I personally find it very hard to use the CB in Rise after maining it in World with 160ish hours. All playing Rise did for me was convince me to jump back into World. The weapon feels so slow and weak in comparison. He says in the video it feels like he's wearing cement shoes running around the map, but I feel that way in combat with the CB, which makes his views on this all the more surprising!
As someone who started with MH3U and fell in love with 4U, World's charm slowly got on my nerves to the point that I needed MHGU to not feel insane and leave World to collect dust. Rise showed me that the fun was still on the table for MH, and Sunbreak. I wanted to like World to the point of slogging through as much of Iceborne as I could handle, but it didn't strike the cord for me the way Rise did. I respect what World brought to the table, but as someone who finds fun in solo-hunting these games, World misses the mark for me.
having played the series for 15 years now it kinda doesn't occur to me that the menus are a clusterfuck, i just precisely spamclick trough them with ease but when you put it that way, oh my god
Newbie started with Rise here. I actually think all the menus were very intuitive somehow maybe it's due to massive experience of the devs from 2 decades of work. There was a ton of stuff to assault my eyes, but not much of it was overwhelming. Many things were simple to grasp at a glance and just needed a bit of time to learn. It felt like deja vu. Then again I really like hardcore games and am used to this stuff in other games I play. My friends who got me into MH tried getting me into World but after seeing some gameplay from newbie to pro, I just couldn't get into how slow it felt. Rise came out with much more mobility and definitely caught my attention. I can't get into exploring huge maps but not have much in the way of traversal skills. Rise is a plus with the traversal stuff being helpful in combat also, including the lovable palamutes. Plus (from friends) hearing the QoL of Rise over the older games is great. It really sounded like Pokemon (gee another monster game) syndrome where old games' tedium are improved to make way for newer things... And didn't make much sense to have them be as tedious as they were in a actuality.
The tedium of the older games was actually more like animal crossing. It was cozy and relaxing, juxtaposed with the fights which were punishing and strategic.... but also meditative I actually really don't like how fast Rise is because it's too much. I want my meditative experience back, where it felt like dancing. Rise is like Generations Ultimate, fun but in a sugar rush way. Too much rots your teeth and makes you feel sick.
there is a fine line between 'removing tedium' and removing mechanics integral to the franchise. I'd say things like instant/ faster gathering is a clear example of removing tedium, but removing the gathering and hunt preparation aspect of the game is just removing core mechanics and watering the game down. and keep in mind Rise is not responsible for the vast majority of QOL changes from traditional MH to new MH, that was MHW. Rise just made the hunter more overpowered than they already were in World.
@tofuteh2348 I have to disagree on one point. Fast gathering WAS removing tedium with World. Rise took it a step too far, and now certain things like mining are EXTREAMLY unsatisfying. It legitimately feels worse even though technically it's less work. If they were gonna do what they did, they needed to change the animations for mining. Also, I disagree about removing prep. I've never properly prepared in any Monster Hunter title outside of endgame Frontier and 2nd generation. I legitimately didn't use mega potions in 3U until the end of G rank because I was too lazy to farm honey, and I didn't need them. Sure, maybe the lower end of average and below average player preps less in 5th gen... but genuinely, I think it was the right call to make it easier for the lower end of the skill range have an easier time with World introducing MH to a mass audience, while not affecting those of us on the higher end of the skill range since those elements had already been watered down by 3rd and 4th gen. Well, thats as long as MH Wilds does what I think its doing and brings back more of a gen 2 vibe with a focus on the preparation and hunting. I genuinely don't think that the World hunter was any more OP than 3U or 4U, and most of that vibe can simply be attributed to proper scaling.... which actually made anything more than duo harder than 3U and 4U, while making solo easier.
@@elk3407 i think you misread- i said faster gathering removed tedium, or am i misunderstanding something? World hunter was OP to me because of just the abundance of stuff you had to deal with the monster. And dont get me wrong, its not bad on paper but I feel like it allowed newbies to just brute force their way through LR and HR and not needing to fully learn their weapon or the monster. Mantles essentially becoming free buffs like temporal just being a 'press square to get free dodges' button, in addition to already existing mechanics like toppling the monster by hitting the legs, mounting, flinching, add on new things like environmental traps that give you yet another free topple and then clutch claw giving you ANOTHER topple. Then you have the healing issue where you virtually never run out of potions or even use them on a quest because theres just so much other stuff that heals you on the map and your palico. On the very rare occassion that you do actually run out of potions you can just fly back to camp and infinitely restock your items like nobody's business, making gathering pointless. But most importantly, my issue with World is less about difficulty and more about how the game muddies the great combat of traditional MH (and then Rise tries to be a different game entirely) Ive been playing since FU and im still not as good at the game as other veterans, so even when 4U, GU and World came out the lowrank village quests were still challenging for me- but in World I realized I could just cheese my way through so many of the fights by not learning the monster. The only monster in the base game i can think of that forced me to learn a monster's moveset was nergigante
I imagine that wirebugs will be taken out in wilds and we'll get that slower more methodical approach to traversal and combat again. Being a Mainline, numbered entry that isn't meant for a portable experience usually comes with that more grounded approach to the game. With the portable entries generally being more exerimental. This isn't a hard rule, but is the usual approach.
I think it's two different games with two very different approaches to the same gameplay loop. As someone who comes from more of an RPG background, I massively prefer World over Rise. World is a really fleshed out experience with tons of role playing aspects. Where one might see a cluttered map I see exploration, immersion and a somewhat sensible ecosystem. Where one might feel like they're wearing cement boots, I feel like I am travelling in heavy armor carrying heavy weapons hunting heavy monsters. In my opinion the UI is better, the weapons feel hefty/impactful and the monsters feel more threatening among the things I have mentioned before. Rise on the other hand feels very much like an arcade game that knows what it does best and sticks to that. Instead of maps being designed around housing flora and fauna, it's purely designed around getting you to the action quicker. Different weapon skills, the mount and the wirebug only further enhance the feeling of funneling you towards its core gameplay experience, fighting monsters. Just like you, I joined during World and also bought Rise when it came out. I know now that I won't be buying any non-mainline monster hunter games anymore as they do not appeal to me at all. The only thing I would really like to see in World that Rise brought in was using different weapon skill loadouts.
I’m very much a monster hunter novice, but I’m preparing to move onto MHWilds when it comes out. Rise was my first game, unless you count the stories games but those are radically different. I do eventually want to branch out to other games in the series. But the little I’ve played so far I am in love and look forward to more
I also felt like I was crazy every time I saw one of those videos. I also was introduced to the series via world, and I love world, but rise is the first game I actually completed (as much as one can complete a monster hunter game). I've fought every monster, crafted every set, even did the anomaly grind to the point where I can craft every deco. I went back and played most games in the series and I think GU is my favorite (despite the bloat, the individual hunts are the most fun to me) and to me rise feels like more of a continuation of that style of game than world. I've recently started playing world again on steamdeck and I do still enjoy it a lot but there's just an undescribable quality I don't get from it that I get from the older games and rise. I can understand if your only mh games are world and rise you would prefer world, but as someone who's a fan of the full series rise just scratches the itch better for me
personally I hope for freedom unite, 3U and 4U ports. I have all of them on their original consoles but I find the 3ds and especially the psp controls leave a lot to be desired. And I think they're all such excellent games that making them more accessible to newer fans is a must
I feel this so much. I tried world 200 hours but man it's not hooking me. I'm an elemental enthusiasts and the fact that most end game builds are all raw when I am researching for builds, just makes it feel bad for me. I still finish hunts but it feels unrewarding to prep for a monster's weakness element and not get rewarded for it just coz raw is still better.
Meanwhile I'm that one guy that found World/Iceborne to be my least favorite MH game in the series...Rise/SB has its own issues, but they're nowhere near as bad compared to what World/IB had for me. I'm afraid that Wilds is going to be more like World...hopefully I'm worng, if not, then, guess I'll see what Portable Team's 6th generation game will be like. (and bring back freakin' Prowler Mode dammit, lol)
Great video, while i basically disagreed with everything outside of give is dogs/a dog equivalent in every game and switch skills (only if they at least do a bit of balancing to remove straight upgrades) i'm glad you didn't just push these opinions as truth and mentioned how for ever point you like there is a counterpoint and group of players who don't like it. Was shocked when i saw 3 subscribers lol. Hopefully this vid gets a lot of attention cuz you deserve it man.
what's sad is capcom betrayed their own game, this whole "return to world" thing really diminished any chance of rise getting a lucky resurgence, which is unfair as sunbreak is the latest in the series and deserved the attention over world as that's had its run.
As a newcomer to the series, I started with World. I enjoyed World, but I jumped to Rise when I picked up a Switch. I faced the same issues you faced in World: confusing levels, and eventually it gets frustrating when you need to keep tracking and chasing down monsters. It's not terrible, but again, as a newcomer to the series it add another layer of challenge on a game that's never easy to begin with. Rise was a lot more accessible, and the improvement to mobility and combat was huge (and even more in Sunbreak). I've finished the base game and am just grinding MR levels to unlock the last few monster variants. I will go back to World and Generations Ultimate now that I've clocked in over 250 hours into Rise on PC and Switch, and the post-game challenges are starting to feel rather unfair and not fun (when getting up to Gaismagorm was a really nice balance between fun and challenge). I'm actually starting to feel competent fairly confident as a hunter, unlike in World where I always felt I barely scraped by. As a place to start the series, Rise was perfect.
5:33 absolute 🤡 take. "how come I can't relyably navigate a completely new area?!" Learning where places are is part of the experience. Much like learning a monsters moves you learn the lay of the land and where which resources and interactables are. everything relevant is noticable at a glance, even without scoutflies.
world is even slower than gen 2/3/4 and always has green sparkly bullshit on sccreen all the fucking time. who tf cares if it looks better if its covered in stupid bullshit. Scout flies and clutch claw ruined MH.
.. I know it prolly sounds crazy but I prefer the visual style of rise over world. Never played rise, but looking at the videos I think its better looking. I like the more colorful, cartoony look.
0:30 I know how you feel! I started with World too! Could never go back to it for all of the frustrating things about it. Graphics don't mean much to me compared to gameplay. 6:54, that's one of my Issue with World in general. A lot of the damage reactions are to make the game very forgiving, but feel very unengaging/sluggish. World gives you a lot of Iframes which often prevents you from being combo'd. (which made base world for me at least feel extremely easy/not really punishing. That and the mantles you can have to play the game literally blind) Older games weren't like this apparently and Rise:Sunbreak brought it back. That and they made monsters over all slower in world/iceborne.
I suggest looking at kītan (the channel name) video's in comparing monster behavior from Iceborne to Sunbreak to get a full idea of the changes. This plays a huge role in your ability to enjoy the game combat wise.
When I started mhw years ago, my favorite thing was being chased by big fire chicken (anjanath). Best immersion feeling I’ve felt. I’m not the best at it but I love spending hours helping other hunters and just exploring the biomes
My only beef with rise / SB is that some attacks from the monsters are hella unfair and hitboxes are wonky af. Not to mention all monsters abuse this " Rushing tackle " attack. I also hate the " spiribird " system. I dont eant to be punished for not spending 2-3 minutes going through a path picking up these birds , thats why we had the canteen prior to the hunt , so you can go 100% ready. Other than that ,excellent combat and good game.
if u are on pc there is a little mod that give u prismatic spirit bird at the start of the hunt so u dont have to go around for 5 min like an idiot to catch birbs. best QoL mod ever (also a mod that gives u infinite silk birb OUTSIDE of combat so exploring become hella fun and less frustrating, and deactivate itself the moment u got into combat )
Spiribirds are not a must to collect but they sure help, a good compromise I made is slotting the spiribird lure decoration and go straight to the monster using only 1 route to catch more of them at the same time
Have you played any monster hunter other than World and Rise? Also spiritbird system doesn't punish you. It is in fact a system that gives you more than the baseline of stats you would have during any hunt in World.
As a short term world player the maps are absolutely gorgeous to look at, but damn navigating them was a pain in my ass especially that damn spiral tree trying to get to the top just to wake up Rathian or Rathalos.
I just had the same experience, but I started all over again in mhworld in the begining of january, now im 100 hours in and there is not a single hunt where im not infuriated cuz of the amount of time you spend staggered by tremmors, roars and wind pressure, I absolutely hate scoutflies and when they hide when you are getting aggroed, there are small aggressive monsters everywhere mh rise is way better expercience when it comes to actual monster hunting, 7:23 i think it is the oposite, wirebug fall is tricky, you can get hit during the animation and monsters have special movements to counter that mechanic, meanwhile laying flat in the ground makes you invulnerable
Great video, I came to World a few month before Rise released from freedom 1 and 2, cuz frick them for releasing all the other monster hunters on nintendo hardware and to me I like both the games equally. World offers what I already know from MonHun, grounded combat, straight forward weapons even tho they got some new moves and there are a lot of new weapons to me. Honestly think the Charge Blade and Switch Axe are the coolest things I have ever seen in monhun. To then a few month later get into Rise and commit to playing it for a few hundred hours. At first Rise was very weird to me, especially as a hammer main having your damage on brutal helmbreaker, I swapped a lot of weapons and trying to the used to the wire bugs stuff. The game is very very overloaded with in combat systems which put me off at first so after around 60 hours I quit basegame and came back to sunbreak which actually made me enjoy the game again and thats when I started to actually liking it in its own way of being a super overloaded power fantasy of a monhun instead of a grounded mon hun like world. Both are amazing games in their own way, everytime I play world I don't miss the palamute or the wirebugs and everytime I play Rise I don't miss the simplicity of combat and how grounded it is of world. It's just like how I still enjoy freedom 1 and 2 in their own way even if they are hella clunky.
thats kind of what im scared about going into mh wilds. i feel like its going to take a lot more from world than it is rise. that’s great for most but rise is MY monster hunter and the idea of not seeing something like it again makes me wary
Started playing Monster Hunter since Freedom Unite and kept playing MH ever since, I think my peak MH playtime was MHGU because the content and monster variety on it which I loved there was just so much to hunt and just a lot of all things MH on it lol Now, I love both World and Rise both are amazing games with different vibes and strong points to them respectively, I love the variety of MHRise but the gameplay though was fun and exhilarating felt too over the top for me making the game feel easy compared to older games and even to World as well for me With World, I feel like it is a excellent balance with difficulty and it’s fun factor, loved the areas and more realistic look on graphics and feel to it, but the overall Monster variety roster for me is like it’s only major downside to it, but I understand why Both games MHWorld and MHRise are amazing games and have different feels to them which is unique and refreshing to see and play, Just always happy to see people enjoy playing Monster Hunter and talking about it for me :)
That's the beauty of the community. But it sucks these monster hunter world d*** riders are smooth brains and can't appreciate what each installment has. I prefer rise over world just as I prefer GU over world. Reasons are simple. Combat. If they could find a way to integrate the quality of life from world, graphics, immersion and hunting aspect. While also keeping rise combat or evolving in it with GU type, faster movement and big roster like GU and Rise, it would please both sides of the community. I'm a hunter, not a training dummy. I shouldn't have to be ragdolled around by a lizard all because I didn't time an I frame dodge. GU fixes this with perfect evades and Rise has the wire fall.
As a MH fan, all i can say is You do You and play whichever games you enjoy.
I agree with this take. But still, World>Rise lol.

(this came from someone who never played monster hunter)
But you can always find people online. Or do you play offline?
I have played every single game since Monster Hunter frontier back in the early PSP days. While I completely agree with your take on rise versus world personally, one of the things that series veterans will always tell you is that every installment is different, and each of them has its good and bad points. My fond hope is that the internet vitriol in this debate does not discourage the developers from continuing to take risks and try new things to evolve the series with each new release.
You’re a hero for wording this so well. My thoughts exactly.
I'll admit that I'm a bit biased though, because:
1 I started with MH4U
2 I created very cherished memories with the game, maybe one of my happiest times playing something ever
I'm on the fence deciding if I should give Rise a try.
I’m glad there are so many good choices I just want to get into the series
Hot take: there is no bad Monster Hunter game. Play the one you want to play.
Lukewarm take
no, world good rise BAD
From a vet, This is a cold take. They are all fantastic games
MH4U and Double Cross... so good. Multiplayer heaven.
I've played the first MH on ps2 and i have to say, that one is pretty bad. It's playable and can be fun but the controls were really awkward
I still come back to MH World every now and then because its just so immersive and sometimes it gives me nostalgia cause my life has changed so much since I got it for my birthday that it feels like a lifetime ago.
yes, when i played world for the first time my life was very diferent for now and sometimes it's like going back in time playing world.

Might be time to wake up 3ds up from its century long slumber to play that again
@@thebulletkin8393 the tri game is back online via dolphin...perhaps put the 3ds down.

Problem is with the massive newcomers from Gen 5, Hunters aren't aware of this.
@@crono4995meh even as a world newcomer, i learned about this split between the portable and mainline games pretty early on but maybe thats just me. i tend to watch a lot of videos and like researching tips and actually learning about the games i play so who knows maybe others just arent like that.
@@TheEscapePlan01 trust me most don't but it's awesome that there are still ppl like you that do their research
Rise combat with Worlds maps would be the best mix imo.
Thanks for the tip
I agree with him tho, I don't think I could go back to slow ass world, as better as it is. I like the wirebug and switch skills too much.
@@RED_XLRwire bug unfortunately speeds up the game in a spammy way instead of a complex way
@@Potato_Kuna I find the opposite rise because of the wire bug made it too easy to dodge around and mount your enemies and felt fast for the sake of it, stuff like Temporal in mhw came much much later in game and even clutch Claw doesn't nearly as broken design wise to the Point you can't beat bosses without it (until tenderizing which OOF).
Graphics are easier on the eyes on rise.

Loved your video and your content bro! I'm also a MH fan that started actually on Rise, and can't wait to test World, new sub!

Most of the "normies" that got introduced to Monster Hunter through World don't actually enjoy MH as a series, they're just fans of World, meanwhile Rise is basically a modernized MonHun gameplay loop, picking up where Generations left off.
lol, lmao even
I don't know about that. I think it's just that a part of world's fans refuse to give a fair opportunity to older ganes or even rise just cause of the graphic.
I guess immersion to them is the main selling point.
@@asnor7588 that's basically what i said lol
MH was never about "the immersion" it's an arcade, execution heavy, spectacle fighter with an hint of boss rush sprinkled in.
Therefore people that like MHWorld aren't necessarily MH fans.
I believe this as well. Like DS2 as an example. DS2 and MHW are both pretty bad games in their series. But there is a fanbase for these games that will never let the game go because it was their first.
@@SanjiDontSurf you’re genuinely mentally ill
I dont really have anything to add to the discussion of the topic in the video, so I'm gonna drop a fun fact I won't shut up about.
Dogs are extremely linked to the hunter - their attack patterns are chosen by your own, and certain actions you perform affect how they also act. If you guard with a shielded weapon, they enter a guard pose (even gaining Power Guard if using the Parasol), and unique to Greatsword, they can also charge their attacks while you charge your own. They also have a habit of dodging in the same direction you do (you dodge left, they go left, etc.)
Watch your dogs a little when you play, you'd be surprised how much sauce they've had
i noticed that my first day on this week. i crouched and my dog and cat both crouched. thought that was cool. then i say how they kinda combo'd with me. the big dinos kinda do the same thing with the additionals they summon. i got hit by a synchronized tail slam from 1 big dino and 2 small ones with the big one in the middle. pretty cool
I think the issue is with switch skills making the game much easier. Rise is so so so much more forgiving with the amount of mobility you have to correct your mistakes. World is so much more punishing and makes you put more thought into the actions you make because recovery from them is very hard if you mess up.
Fair point
They both like that. Worldborne is piss easy. Only 2 hard monsters in that game lol
@strider7198 knowing based of the trailer, I don't think we getting hunter arts or switch skills. Maybe mount skills.
Portable monster hunter will always be peak monster hunter.
Anyway, good vid!
i just miss the size of the monsters in world and interactions they have with the environment, that alone is good reason to prefer world and the food looked SOOO GOOD! in world you just feel so very small in the colossal scale of world and its inhabitants i actually have both games on my hard drive :)
omg that gathering hub song in the background is just magical. time to go back to MHR. and MHW!
EDIT: loved your style. +1 subscriber!
i played world/iceborne a lot and i love it. but rise/sunbreak has a lot of improvements when it comes to movement at combat. the palamute and wire bug are the reasons why i find it hard to return to world/iceborn.
The palamute, wirebugs, and spiribirds are the exact reasons why I don’t like going back to rise, despite really enjoying the core game.
Same bro I love the wire bugs
Rise has the best movement of any MH game
One of my biggest annoyance of world is no pause button. Life is life. Gotta pause offline.
The pause option in rise is my life saver
That’s one thing I love about older MH games is that damn pause option!
I love monster hunter rise. The combat is amazing. After having so many options in the way you play your weapon in rise, i just cant go back...
Rise/Sunbreak is honestly amazing man. If MH6 isn't out by the time I'm done with my second playthrough of world/iceborne. I'll go back to Sunbreak and finally grind out the anomaly quests lol.
Good for you bro. Imma go back to mh generations to pass the time myself...
You won't regret it. The amount of moves and skills with different weapons are awesome
My brother just bought me the game when it was on sale for Christmas never played a monster hunter before so this video helped lol thank you! 🤝🏾

I *Definetly* agree on the account items part omigosh I tought no one ever agreed with me on that.
Especially with how much more detailed and fun to explore the newer maps are, it is a shame that the way the game is structured actively discourages you from doing that.

I mean it comes down to the feel of it, world just has a more universal feel than rise does, for whatever reason that may be, it is what it is
I much prefer world because it delivers a grounded immersive monster hunting experience.

Meanwhile there is me who never really got into these games as a kid and is running both on my pc switching between lmao

And here i am still playing MHGU over Rise and World.. i have both rise and world..
My problem with World and why I won't go back (much) is just how much I HATE the clutch claw and tenderizing nonsense.
That's only Ice borne
@@RocketSlimewhich is world lmfao
@@dds4585 yes but it's something most world players won't experience until much much later meaning it's less severe than rise which has the wire bug which makes the combat much much easier
@@RocketSlime at least wirebugs are way more fun, i personally love the freedom of movement and combat options. tenderizing just gets in the way.
@@RocketSlime idk, wirebugs are pretty fun and suit the fast combat.. if they are going to make the combat so absurdly fast then things like automatic hunting horn casts and wirebug hooks is a good change even if in the grand scheme of things its a downgrade
You really nailed down what you wanted to bring across you smooth brain you :). I am tempted to make a german monster hunter video channel just to get non english guys into the basics of everything thanks to you.
Thank you for making this video. I cannot tell you how many videos I've run into talking about the migration back to World like it's the only MH title out there. With the driving point of World feeling like an actual world while Rise doesn't. Newer fans need to appreciate what each game stood for and that none were direct continuations of others. Both games did their own thing- giving different experiences.
seriously tho, every title tries to do something different outside of GU being the last hurrah of the old gen
this notion that these games are created in mind of being direct continuations of each other (outside of the expansions) is really annoying and something i’ve noticed world players specifically talking about
@@esteboi3858 Real.
My reason for not playing rise constantly over world right now: after getting to anomaly rank 300 is a chore and it kinda burnt me out of rise's combat. after killing over 50 risen shagaru it kinda burnt me out even tho the magala's are my favorite line of monsters. switched to rise after finishing maxing out my kulve taroth weapons too so it's a cycle of being burnt out by one game then switching for me.Also
6:51 may i suggest rocksteady and temporal mantle in this trying time?
As a hbg main anomaly 200+ was damn near impossible and I felt burnt out so I added a follower mod and infinite ammo mod and it’s still super hard but it’s fun and keeps me playing so I suggest adding mods if you feel like you don’t want to play anymore.
May I suggest an egg in this trying time?
@@guardian0740 BUT MY crimson fatalis egg questline ptsd
I mean... Killing 50 risen shagaru is already a good statement itself.
Well, that's definitely a hot take. But ngl if u have 170+ hours in mhworld you should prolly know where your going(except the ancient forest like wth I never know where tf I'm going).
Cursing Ancient Forest has become a ritual for me...
Just the video I was looking for to know which one to play for the first time. Rise it is. Thanks
I too thought it was isnane how it seemed like everyone loved World and hated Rise for... Whatever reason, I've been seeing these videos appear since like a few months after base Rise got it's final update, and now I see them in the recommendations again
Rise was my first (and the one where I have the Master Rank expansion), so maybe I'm a little biased but even after completing World, minus Behemoth full hunt, I still like it more
I feel like this whole thing is kinda like the Baldurs Gate 3 vs Spiderman 2 thing rn, they're different games made for different audiences, or in MH case made with different things in mind.
(like in Diablo 4 or New World)
Then some years later World would come out and offer the full experience with tracking, meaningful movement and a coherent well...
As long time Warframe player the term "Discussion paralysis" hits so close to home
Was a hard time trying to not become gay while I watched that video. I am agreeing 101% with everything you said brother
Hahaha
Your vid does give great insight though, nice vid.
tl:dr
>Keep traversal mechanics (wallrunning, clutch bug, etc)
>don't keep combat additions except for switch skills (clutch claw, wirebug)
>Keep best part of both maps (big expansive maps, less confusing layouts)
I respect what World brought to the table, but as someone who finds fun in solo-hunting these games, World misses the mark for me.
having played the series for 15 years now it kinda doesn't occur to me that the menus are a clusterfuck, i just precisely spamclick trough them with ease
but when you put it that way, oh my god
It was cozy and relaxing, juxtaposed with the fights which were punishing and strategic.... but also meditative
I actually really don't like how fast Rise is because it's too much. I want my meditative experience back, where it felt like dancing. Rise is like Generations Ultimate, fun but in a sugar rush way. Too much rots your teeth and makes you feel sick.
you just summed it up. Rise is like brainrotted ADHD Monster Hunter.@@elk3407
there is a fine line between 'removing tedium' and removing mechanics integral to the franchise.
But most importantly, my issue with World is less about difficulty and more about how the game muddies the great combat of traditional MH (and then Rise tries to be a different game entirely)
Ive been playing since FU and im still not as good at the game as other veterans, so even when 4U, GU and World came out the lowrank village quests were still challenging for me- but in World I realized I could just cheese my way through so many of the fights by not learning the monster. The only monster in the base game i can think of that forced me to learn a monster's moveset was nergigante
What hurts the most about world are the unskipable cut scenes and the fact that you cant play with friends without seeing said unskipable cut scenes
I much prefer World over Rise but I’m currently playing and very much enjoying both.
Both games have their credit and their many, many positives. 🙂
L taste.
@@cvrlo_ as an ig and sns main I feel this.
Played both. World was bland with it's weapons, monster rosters and moves. It also takes too long to hunt one down.
That and the mantles you can have to play the game literally blind)
Older games weren't like this apparently and Rise:Sunbreak brought it back.
Spiribirds are. So bad lmao
But yeah, combat is AMAZING in Rise
Yea i agree with the birds😂
if u are on pc there is a little mod that give u prismatic spirit bird at the start of the hunt so u dont have to go around for 5 min like an idiot to catch birbs. best QoL mod ever (also a mod that gives u infinite silk birb OUTSIDE of combat so exploring become hella fun and less frustrating, and deactivate itself the moment u got into combat )
Rise is miles better than world. I love both, but to me rise is better than world.
It's just like how I still enjoy freedom 1 and 2 in their own way even if they are hella clunky.
i got 579 hours and havent even played world OR rise
you gonna get a lot of hate but I agree. World just does not respect the player's time and that's what I love about Rise.
thats kind of what im scared about going into mh wilds. i feel like its going to take a lot more from world than it is rise. that’s great for most but rise is MY monster hunter and the idea of not seeing something like it again makes me wary
World is a great game. Rise is a great Monster Hunter game. That's why Rise isn't as popular as World.
Well put
Started playing Monster Hunter since Freedom Unite and kept playing MH ever since, I think my peak MH playtime was MHGU because the content and monster variety on it which I loved there was just so much to hunt and just a lot of all things MH on it lol
Now, I love both World and Rise both are amazing games with different vibes and strong points to them respectively, I love the variety of MHRise but the gameplay though was fun and exhilarating felt too over the top for me making the game feel easy compared to older games and even to World as well for me
With World, I feel like it is a excellent balance with difficulty and it’s fun factor, loved the areas and more realistic look on graphics and feel to it, but the overall Monster variety roster for me is like it’s only major downside to it, but I understand why
Both games MHWorld and MHRise are amazing games and have different feels to them which is unique and refreshing to see and play, Just always happy to see people enjoy playing Monster Hunter and talking about it for me :)
