Switched out the motor last week, and a couple comments about the video:
Most importantly, the Amazon product has been improved. You no longer have to remove and replace the wiring to the new motor. It comes with an adapter that'll plug into the old wiring harnass into the new motor. The only difference now is replacing the 'crank' that plugs into the motor (2;59 in the video). The old L shaped platic piece is cut off, and the new one is spliced to the same wire. The kit comes with the new crank, and a wiring splicing kit. It also includes a heat shrink sleeve for the splice. You can not use the old crank to the new motor; the designs are different.
0:39 That panel was really hard to remove for me and nearly took 15 minutes. It might be frozen to the other place piece, but keep jiggling a screwdriver in the slot and it will eventually come off.
0:52 The plug was also hard to remove, but the secret is to push down on the middle square clip that secures the fit. Pushing down on the clip releasees the plug. The clips on the side do very little.
1:17 Yanking the ice maker out and putting it back in requires a lot of effort. Try jiggling the device side to side to help it move.
Not having to replace the wiring makes the job significantly easier.

Very helpful tutorial, (at least initially). I say that bc I just installed it and will have to see if the new machine produces ice. Good news is, is that there is sound coming from the ice maker, like a fan is running.
Imo, I didn't think disconnecting the green wires was necessary. I felt I could change the part without that step, especially since it was a challenging step for me.
Also, my kit came with a wire that I had to splice to the front in exchange for the old yellow wire thing. I'm not sure if you mention that or if your machine didn't need it, but the kit I bought in the link you provided came with one.
With that said, I knew how to cut and splice wires already (at least I hope, again we'll see tomorrow if it produces ice) , but that would be helpful for the viewers to know.

I dismantled the harvest motor enclosure (black box) and found that the copper traces and wire connection inside was burnt badly. THIS is why Appliance Parts sends you a new wiring harness because when the thing failed is probably damaged the wiring somewhere also. Is really is not hard to replace the wiring harness.

Before replacing, isn’t there other things to look at? Mine produces water, no ice. Can the water line be frozen, could a wire that controls water into the ice maker be broken? Just want to make sure eliminate the simple things first.

    • @megawatts

I checked the water line and filter to make sure it’s not clogged. And turn off defrost and on the refrigerator to see if it it works again. 90% of time it’s the ice make unit itself. So we just did it and it works.

He said he will probably have to break it off to replace the ice maker. He comes on 06/24 so we will see. I think the refrigerator should be turned off and then it will melt and come off. All of these videos say " FIXING your ice maker thats not making ice". Not replacing the ice maker... obviously the component that failed isn't worth replacing?? I just wish the title matched the video guys. If my water pump started leaking on my truck I would hope a video on fixing the leak ( new replacement part ) would be the instructed procedure. Not a trip to the repair shop for a new motor to install. Not hating on anybody just irritated at a new fridge that needs a replacement icemaker, it would seem, only weeks after warranty expires....what goes bad for it to stop working suddenly??
