    I always loved the look of the Grave Guard and Black Knights, but always felt silly recruiting them in campaigns since free skeletons were so much more cost effective. I am so stoked to see them buffed.

    i like the healing changes, it makes it feel like the undead are invincible as long as the ones controlling them are alive cause they can just reform themselves if they are destroyed basically. Plus this will open up different magic for the vamp factions instead of nehek spam all campaign

      Yeah it’s pretty cool. Currently reading through the end time books and it’s pretty insane how resilient and tough the undead are when they go to war. Not sure if CA has gone a bit overboard with how much they can heal though. As cool as the lore is, I like balanced gameplay more

      @@deadlyydude5522 I feel like it might be cool to keep healing the same but let another mechanics compensate for that strength: fire damage preventing healing whatsoever, crushing damage preventing way more damage than slashing/piercing etc. etc.

      Yeah, I don t think it s gonna be op, since ranged units can easily pick apart a mortis engine or a corpse cart

    I mean it may be boring to watch, but it is very thematic for the faction. A horde of the unliving marching forward unflinchingly into the enemy and grinding them down with unholy magic that saps the bravery and strength of the living and bolsters the dead is extremely fitting. To counter, I would say that killing leaders should have more impact since you're removing the animating force, but offset this with a few hp buffs or missile resist to avoid just lord/hero sniping.

      Not just annoying to watch but also annoying to play from both sides. VC deathstar got nerfed in TWWH2 but they still dominate open field which just forces a blob fest that is impossible to tell whats happening. All other MU feels way more dynamic with lot's of movement instead of tedious grinding with occasional gooning attempts. Talking specifcally about MP but also applicable to SP cheeses.

    Skelly spam in Twwh 2 was very effective and the grave guard didn’t seem worth it at times. I’d imagine that the free upkeep for skellies will stay but the boost in stats for grave guard will definitely have me looking at them in a better light. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still gonna have throw away armies with nothing but skellies and a shit lord, but the real army coming in behind it will hit harder.

      I'm glad because even if skellie spam is effective, grave guard at least now has a role, and a very important one as well. Since having magical attacks now is a big thing. I wonder if the Tomb Guard will also be swinging with magical attacks? I wonder what they will decide

      I hope that they keep the free zombie tech, but replace the free skelly tech with one that reduces upkeep by 50% or so. I mean these changes are massive, and I did not expect these changes at all.

      As long as Wind of Death still wrecks infantry skelly spam will still be optimal.

      @@sandercohen9712 the only change that normal skellies got was an increase to leadership right? Grave Guard got an increase in stats but also cost. That seemed to be the theme behind most of the changes with the Vampire counts. Increase effectiveness but also increase cost for basically all high tier VC units.

    As a VC main, both in game and on the tabletop, I am very excited to see my boney boys getting some love.
    I think this really cements my first IE game being Manfredd in the Badlands Bowl.
    Khorne's magic resist will not save him from my WoD.

      Idk I'd imagine it wouldn't be too hard to form some kinda agreement with Skarbrand... based on all the dudes trying to bury you both beneath the sands...
      Queek and Arkhan probably wouldn't mind helping you take out all the men, dwarves and elves in the area either

      As a VC main as well I'm happy with the changes, makes sense units that exist only by magic cause magical damage.
      Let them demons come, the undead can't get sick. They can't bleed or change or be seduced. We're not scared.

    When I saw "Vampire Counts rework" I was slightly hoping for Grave Guard with Halberds, but I guess I can go back to hoping they're added when either Nagash or Neferata come

      With the changes, blood knights will likely go from one of the best cavalry units to the undisputed kings. They probably don't have what it takes to beat ogre crushers with great weapons, but they were extremely strong before and they got a damage boost to their already high damage and innate healing. They're going to be terrifying.

    This pleases me. I was planning on running as Isabella anyway since she and Vlad now actually own their home, so a general buff is awesome.
    Also I wanted to try allying some Imperial dupes for handguns.

    Really awesome that CA has gone through the old factions and updated their models and mechanics. Archaon in particular now looks awesome, they did a great job with his horse. Don’t know how I’m going to wait the next month before the beta releases lol

    Great breakdown, really appreciate all the details. Seems like some pretty extensive buffs across the board, perhaps a tad overboard in some cases but I'd rather improve and adjust than leave things in a bad place.

    Permanent passives being unlocked with kill counts definitely sounds like something that needs to be extended to a ton of other factions.

      I'm pretty confident for Neferata, maybe Aborash too, but a Necrarch or Strigoi LL seem unlikely to me (even if i would love it, having 4 new LL just for VC would be weird, which is sad since for some reason, i would love to play a Strigoi), especially since Nagash will probably join the TK with some pretty sick necromancer-oriented units too which add even more undead

    Definitely excited for this. VC and WoC are my mains, and VC was the first race I played back in Warhammer 1, and I have a bunch of their models. Can't wait to play Manny in the Thunderdome.

    I've always thought it would be awesome if the vampires had a magic leeching mechanic.
    Basically give some units the ability to syphon winds of magic from other units/models. Think like, 0.0001% per zombie, or maybe a mortis engine with 10%.
    Basically make it possible to have builds that consume enemy magic and give it to your own casters.
    Would be an awesome new dimension to the battlefield without just "giving them ranged units" and still feel VERY vampiric.

    Very good to hear the Counts changes.
    Nurgle vs the Vamp Counts have always been something I was a bit concerned about as they had similar playstyles of "heal and grind" but now it seems like they may have some advantages to each.
    I'm curious in seeing how things turn out. Haven't actually played WH3 myself yet but from what I seen Nurgles "Debuffs, massive HP pools, good healing, low mobility, next to no range" while Counts are now "Medium HP pools, amazing healing, good mobility, no range, and Ghost hit squads".
    I Guess that means Counts' power comes from their supports while Nurgle is more on average strong?

    I’ve been really hoping for this for a while. The Counts needed this or some type of rework due to power creep and how long they have gone without any updates. Skeletons could of used a small attack or defense buff as well but I’m glad to see them getting the boost seriously needed due to units stat wise being so much less than other factions. Nice to see the heals be brought back some before the huge nerf since without it they were and might still be very limited. With magic being nerfed as well so their heroes and lords aren’t quite as good hopefully this balances out. Now at least to me they still need a few more units to add variety besides blobbing and to help against single entity units. Maybe a DLC with Neferata would come with the units, and some kind of rite or bloodwork magical library like Skyre, which would help the campaign with always waiting for corruption.

      Was only thinking a couple points at most but the leadership boost probably would be enough after thinking about it. Staying in the fight longer would equal more damage received and given so it would be the same as a few stat boosts. Mostly it’s due to in campaign the cost of higher tier units wasn’t worth their lower stats and abilities compared to other factions units when you get skeletons for free. I am not interested in playing MP so not a fan when they are balanced together. However I still think that a few more units to add variety would go a long way to making them not have to blob every time. It is nice to see some difference now between counts and coast with one having more staying power and the other having firepower.

      In the mean time we can ally with Arhkahn to get his halberds and with the vampire coast go get depth guard with pole arms to stay thematic.

      Never thought of that! That would definitely be a great change to make and depending on what comes down the way could open up so interesting options for DLCs. Seeing as Neferata was from the same country as the Tomb Kings and Nagash could make anything that has to do with death or undeath.

    Hope to see changes to sylvania faction to better reflect the idea of a mix faction of empire units and undead like it is lore wise, rather than just a few mortal units added via bloodlines

      I’d also love it if they added some way of resurrecting units from other races in lore or story-friendly locations. Like if you could resurrect some of the bretonnian knights or elven archers or dragons you just slaughtered that’d be amazing! If you wanted to in your head-canon you could make it so some of or all of those units just defected to your side too

      my ultimate hope would be Each bloodline having an influence in each human nation in the form of a legendary lord taking on the culture and being a dark mirror of their corresponding nation as a hybrid faction ie:
      -Mallobaude/The Red Duke for Blood Knight bloodline for Bretonnia, with the goal of defeating all dukes in combat and either assimilating or killing them and conquering all of Bretonnia.
      -Vlad/Isabella/Mannfred for Von Carsten bloodline for Empire, with the goal of conquering the whole of the empire.
      -Gashnag the Black Prince for Strigoi bloodline for Border Princes, with the goal of killing off and conquering all other opposing southern realm influences and retaking the lands of Morgheim.
      -Neferata OR Kattarin the bloody OR Ulrika Magdova for Lhamian bloodline for Kislev, with the goal of conquering kislev through subterfuge and reclaiming the lands of ancient lhamia.
      -Harakhte OR Xian Ha Feng for new Jade Blooded bloodline for Cathay, with the goal of conquering all of Cathay.
      -Zacharias the Everliving for the Necrarchs bloodline, with the goal of obtaining the books of nagash, control of the black pyramid, and wiping out the tomb kings (could maybe be like Arkhan where he uses a cross between tomb kings and vampire units since nehekara used to be a human nation).

Like elves for example cant be reanimated as undead due to magical lore protection reasons, same with with dwarves, in addition for the most part things that are animated as VC are just souless husks which is why VC isnt able to use ranged weapons as opposed to tomb kings who keep their souls and past warrior lives with them.

      I completely agree.. I'm not into warhammer lore at all.. But what I find cool about vampires is the idea of seduction and trickery... Being able to field human armies who have been manipulated into being loyal to their vampire overlords is just super cool thematically.
      I feel like sylvania should have access to most empire units that arent religiously or tech themed.

      @@MaMastoast eh as much as I wish this was possible as a VC/undead main lore wise it just doesn’t make the most sense. Sylvania does use humans to an extent in their armies but very little mostly just as scouts(why bother paying/feeding for an army of humans when you can have one of monsters and skeletons for free) that being said when Nefarata hopefully gets added as a VC LL, well get a big like seduction focus with her as she is known for being sneaky in the shadow with her handmaidens

    As a dwarf main, most of these changes concern me since they decided to remove the inherent magic resist they have. They will need some sort of rework as well pretty soon at this rate.

      Yeah... If they don't have some buffs on launch I imagine they will get them around the release of Chaos Dwarfs. Some Dwarf buffs are gonna be very much needed.

      They still have the spell resist at least. Runes were a helpful addition, but the dwarfs still need something to give them an edge, as well help differentiate them from their chaos cousins once that race pack drops. Personally, I am hoping for engineering focused dlc that gives them more fly units, like the Thunderbarge.

    Vamp counts were my first faction I learned and got a long campaign victory with when I started TW2. 432 turns of bumbling through the campaign mechanics, and abusing raise dead every chance I got.
    I think Manfred in the thunder dome is gonna be my first Immortal Empires Campaign

    Like the changes. Strengthens the Hammer and anvil playstyle I prefer with the VC. A strong centre that refuses to ever rout while my Blood Knights and Black Knights sweep the flanks and then , along with Terrorgeists fall on the engaged enemy centre from the rear.

    Those are some great changes but i still feel the vampires are in dire need of some new units. Especially anti large.

      They have plenty of anti large, it's just not always obvious. There's terrorgheists and blood knights, and technically skeleton spears (but let's be honest, you don't notice that anti large on skeleton spears like you do with yari ashigaru vs cavalry in shogun 2), but there's also the lords and heroes. The single entity characters may not have an anti large bonus (krell excluded) but they are still really good at killing monsters and other characters on mounts.

    The VC defo got a winning buff here. There are clear avenues to stop certain builds here and the like, but them hitting back with magic attacks and general stat/playstyle upgrades are fun!
    Hope they take the same care with some other factions (cough cough HE's, Lizzies)

    I find it kind of funny that the answer to vampire healing blobs is shooting, when tabletop wise the vampires always did super well against ranged armies, while a strong melee force would shatter them - cant heal a unit that isnt there and all that.

      VC are pretty good against shooting because you can just summon a bunch of zombies on the enemy ranged troops

      @@Biblig if krell is LH he can wear items, level up and abilities, scale into late game. but take slot, gold and can die. So it is a trade off.

    all flaming attacks reduce healing received now, right? that mechanic didn't seem to have a ton of impact in WH3 initially, but with more healing-dependent factions coming back in IE it could be more relevant. Tzeentch in particular seems like they could have a leg up against armies that use constant healing effects like this

I know Rich (lead dlc game dev) mentioned looking at a lot of interactions against daemons for old factions and I thought Tomb King early start is already mega difficult against dwarves (for Arkhan), I can't imagine Settra lasting long against khorne and his warriors. I want some tier 2 magic/armor piercing damage, rushing casket isn't always effective :(.

    I make use of crap stack free Skeleton Spearmen and Mortis Engines in Very Hard and Legendary in WH2 but will be interesting to see how the Nerf to Magic affects the Vampire Counts as they do rely heavily on it for Invocation, Raise Dead and Wind of Death.

    It would be awesome if Nehek could keep raising more skeletons to a unit - bringing it way above its starting unit count. In Warhammer Tabletop - you would often see a Vampire army end the battle with way more skeletons than it began

      You don't see this in AoS, but you do for zombies. For each model a zombie kills a new zombie gets added to their unit on a 2+.

      @@alecburrett7482 if zombies got that ability in TWW3, that'd be an interesting twist. They get a raise dead effect on enemy models killed, which makes them GOD against lower-tier infantry, but they just melt or fail to kill anything elite enough, so there's no return and passive raise-dead.

      @@johnj.spurgin7037 They are actually scary against elite 1 wound units due to the fact they do a mortal wound on a 6 to hit, but they have terrible combat stats. They also have a 6" pile in range instead of 3", so they are deceptively dangerous. Snipe the supporting hero's and you can pretty much ignore them because they are so slow.

    Never been a huge Vampire Counts player, but they sound like a lot of fun. If the right LL ever came along...well, in the meantime it's cool to see them get some much-needed love. :D They're still good opponents and factions to watch fight!

    Perhaps it'll be good to bring a hellcannon against Counts to bring down Mortis Engines and carts. Also I could see Shaggoths and the big Greater daemons being brought to snipe it and varghulfs. Who knows?

    I love the changes, especially to the ethereal units! There is one thing I wish they would change and that's the ghosts pulling ladders out their ass 😒 just let them go through walls.
