Pro-tip: teleport new units next to the relay, build them to full capacity, "embark" them into the rely. Congratulations you can now teleport a full squad of terminators. You can also shove dreadnoughts and regular marines into the relay and have them drop-pod in :D
In skirmish, I *rush* terminators and march them towards the enemy base, dropping new squads along their path, only reinforcing them when in combat otherwise prioritizing maxxing the infantry cap. And since it's not a 1v1, having your force commander as goalie (+scouts/cappers)
@@GenJuhru I have a feeling you might be an ancestor of Indrick Boreale, because that sounds suspiciously like his "Steel Rain" tactic he kept screaming about.
Ah yes. The game that dragged me into WH40k universe. Bought golden edition and Winter assault in like 2011 as part of strategy pack together with Supreme commander 2 and Company of heroes for a nice discount. At the time I just wanted Supreme commander, but for just double it's price I got 3 more games so why not. Well I got addicted to DoW and basically ignored the other 2. Got Dark crusade and Soulstorm soon after. And DoW2 with retribution and chaos rising in 2015. Also madness that was Space marine.
I played the original and all the expansions, Dark Crusade is my favorite out of all of them. "Awwww . . . you killed all of my Necron Warriors?" *RESURRECTION ORB* "And now you didn't."
DC/SS give me mixed feelings. The campaign overall suffers slightly because of the unstructured nature of it. But on the plus side, you don't spend that much time on missions that are less important because of the bonuses you build up over the course of the campaign.
What stood out to me the most as a kid when I played this was that this was and still is the only RTS I've ever played where the flame thrower doesn't do anything to building.
2:22 heavy bolters are actually better for medium range, so some of the space marines can actually shoot their normal bolters, since the squad will only engage enemies up until the longest range weapoin in the squad if not engaged closer. Also, plasma guns are mostly meant for firing on the run, and dealing with heavy infantry, like chaos space marines, and armored nobs.
This is such a great game. Sure, a lot has happened in RTS gaming since then, including it's basically dead now mostly, but this is great. With all the remakes going on, really, i want a remake of this, better models, better textures, better lighting, better terrain, with quality of life stuff, extra units, nids race, bigger single player campaigns map, that would make me play this much more again, every now and then i do.

But trust me; as someone who has played Ultimate Apocalypse, these aren't just mere amateurish tweaks, no... Quite simply, they are sublime works of Art. Well worth the trouble indeed. It would take way too long to fully explain exactly what each one alters, but if you want to know more; there are good videos by ThunderPsyker, MandaloreGaming, & Poncha. The videos made by these three youtubers explain pretty well; but one can also see the mods in action too, on TheXPGamers channel, by CaptainShack. Im so proud that I have the original discs of DOW 1 It's probably one of the best intros to the 40k lore Best thing about the game is the class customization and I remember my brother and I being absolute nerds creating lore behind our custom skins. I also love how most rts games have build animations where the building would just pop up out of nowhere, meanwhile DOW would do the most violent dropshipping of an IKEA furniture Def one of my top 10 most favorite videogame with infinite replayability (especially with mods)
You lucky BASTERD! Well played. Yeah it has many things integral to warhammer without being too much . I can see that being a thing, i just had a Quick look at it, and it was impressive how much you can customize. God yes, the pods crashing into the earth and unpacking was awesome.
That cut scene was one of the first as-good-as-any-movie intros. Set a very high bar for animations thereafter, and credit to WH40K and Warhammer in general - their follow up games all had excellent intro videos that put everything before them to shame. The game itself was also great, although like yourself I often found I was a bit of a completionist, so by killing absolutely everybody second phases often didn't happen. I seem to recall the follow up games fixing that a bit.
The expansions for this game are great. Dark Crusade and Soul Storm are both a lot of fun, and the Necron are one of my favorite armies due to how dang simplistic they are.
@@HardcoreK1llar DoW 2 is not a bad game. But the 40k games started to fall off pretty hard at that point and they abandoned the RTS aspects and focus of the game that the community has been wanting to see return for YEARS now.
I think the description of what Cyrene was probably comes from the novel by C.S. Goto, whose stuff is considered some of the worst officially licensed 40k content there is, regularly breaking canon. So not sure would I count it as canon.
One of the reasons why the marines being the focus of the first game is... suboptimal, is that the orbital relay is a garrisonable structure - you can deduce it from the rhino mechanics (let's be real here, gamers and deduction rarely mix), or you can stumble upon having a different cursor icon with a compatible squad selected (but for that you have to pay attention - again, a relatively rare ability in the gamer population), but otherwise you'd have no idea that you're not actually supposed to just train and deploy fresh squads with it. The guard would've beeen a significantly better introductory faction, because most of their buildings can be filled with dozens of angry men with all sorts of guns, so the mechanic would be familiar instead of this odd thing in one structure.
Problem is a Games Workshop executive would have left an upper decker in the Relic bathroom when he found out they didn't make Space Marines the headline faction for the main campaign.

I really liked Dawn of War 2; yeah it was different from Warcraft/Starcraft because there were no buildings but it was ahead of its time really, like playing a MOBA with multiple characters at once. All the negative reviews I saw were "RTS has buildings!!" but I had played that AvP RTS that I think was made by these same devs and it was the same way and wasn't just looking for another Blizzard clone. It was my first foray into the 40k franchise and it was good enough to really pull me in.
Dawn of War was the first reason I got into wh40k! I actually had a chance to play actual tabletop game before but it was Dawn of War which truly showed me the real awesomeness of 40k! The tabletop game was.... Ok. But it's missing the screams, badass voice work, and real grimdark!
Yeah i have never played the tabletop game myself and it was Total Biscuits review of Space Marine that got me into the universe. And now i have a shelf full of books, but thankfully i have managed to stay away from the plastic crack.
I only played this for the multiplayer back then. Could you also do the expanstion pack (if they have campaign mission), and as well the other 2 series....
Just getting into to warhammer tbh but this game could do with a remaster and with todays technology not only looking awesome with modern graphics but could fit way more npcs on the screen meaning that in theory they could have missions where you deploy small squads and on the flip side you could large scale assaults like almost full on planetary invasions... just imagine looking at your screen and seeing like upto 1000 marines Dreadnoughts and tanks and titans just absolutely taking the fight to those tyranids/ orks/ Chaos enemies/ entities/necrons meanwhile having like starship bombard settlements and bases from orbit...
My two favorite 40K games are both recent. Rogue Trader and Chaos Gate Daemonhuntrers. Each of them are some of my favorite games in their respective genres.

@@tobbe2363 Yes the leveling...normally one of my favorite systems in CRPGs. Here though, it's a lot. I feel ill equipped to make a good decision during a 'dungeon' crawl and it can really break up the game flow figuring out what to take for everyone.

@@tobbe2363 Yeah there are so many choices its easy to gimp characters at higher difficulties. Luckily it is fairly forgiving to respec, at least initially.
It was made with greatest care and love. Tonns of unnecessary things like idle animations often being different for different units, many unique melee finishers. Even for units who arent mainly melee, even specific dueling animations for some units. All that and voiceover created unique atmosphere. And most beloved of all, and somehow missing feature even from nerdy wargames now - ability to customise unit composition by adding different specialist and weapons. So yo ucan make totally differently specialised units from same type of unit. While every army had so many different units anyway.

Dawn of War is what introduced me to 40k, it had memorable characters, gameplay, and also the control scheme that more or less similiar to Command and Conquer. *As per 2024, I still play this game and never get bored (Soulstorm is kinda sucky tho)
@tobbe2363 From my experience at least, the Soulstorm expansion undo what makes Dark Crusade great, enjoyable, and make things unecessarily long and harder. *(e.g n Dark Crusade, you just need to destroy enemy HQ and mission complete, but in Soulstorm you literally need to literally destroy anything before completing a mission)
@tobbe2363 Sorry I forgot to mention that Dawn of War 1 had 3 expansion, first is Winter Assault, then Dark Crusade, and last is Soulstorm. While the other 2 is enjoyable on their own, Soulstorm is the "worst" because of odd choices and also kinda lack of polish.
I played this game in 15 fps and it was the best game ever. The best feeling I got is when I upgraded my PC so it can actually run it and noticed how better everything it

I was a huge warcraft 3 player and when this came out I could not stop playing. I had reached top 25 as IG during winter assault and this will live deep in my memory as best Warhammer title. Currently deep in to SM 2 and now I've gotta go rvisit this.
Daym my Guy i cant even begin to know what that is like, i cant multi task to,save my own life.
What do you think about SM2 i have heard a lot of good things, but unfortunetly my PC aint up to snuff haha.
You def should i had a great time with it
@@tobbe2363SM2 is pretty good. Good campaign and co-op with friends is superb fun.
Paperwork is the most formidable opponent in the galaxy and is still undefeated.
Im so proud that I have the original discs of DOW 1
It's probably one of the best intros to the 40k lore
Best thing about the game is the class customization and I remember my brother and I being absolute nerds creating lore behind our custom skins.
I also love how most rts games have build animations where the building would just pop up out of nowhere, meanwhile DOW would do the most violent dropshipping of an IKEA furniture
Def one of my top 10 most favorite videogame with infinite replayability (especially with mods)
You lucky BASTERD! Well played.
Yeah it has many things integral to warhammer without being too much .
I can see that being a thing, i just had a Quick look at it, and it was impressive how much you can customize.
God yes, the pods crashing into the earth and unpacking was awesome.
Class customization? You mean the Army Painter?
4:50 the hours hersy in a nut nuted shell
This is one of my top 5 favorite games ever
Remembering the first time you loaded up that intro cinematic...💀
That cut scene was one of the first as-good-as-any-movie intros. Set a very high bar for animations thereafter, and credit to WH40K and Warhammer in general - their follow up games all had excellent intro videos that put everything before them to shame. The game itself was also great, although like yourself I often found I was a bit of a completionist, so by killing absolutely everybody second phases often didn't happen. I seem to recall the follow up games fixing that a bit.
This game started my love for 40k ❤
If the rest of the comments are anything to go by, you are not alone in that!

@@tobbe2363 Basically with Gork and Mork getting involved in Da BIGGEST WAAAAAGH in DA SKAI
It’s a truly beautiful thing
The expansions for this game are great. Dark Crusade and Soul Storm are both a lot of fun, and the Necron are one of my favorite armies due to how dang simplistic they are.
I started playing dark Crusade a bit a few days ago and it’s pretty good so far, miss the narrative campaign tho.
I would really want to see you play the expansions to this game, they are glorious!!!!
I did buy the expansions and DoW 2 on the sale so i def Will!
@@tobbe2363 FOR THE EMPEROR!!! (And maybe chaos if you do a chaos campain lol)
@@tobbe2363 You fucked up by buying DoW 2 but I wish you the best lol
@@mee091000DoW 2 ain’t even bad, it’s the fan made DoW 3 that isn’t great
@@HardcoreK1llar DoW 2 is not a bad game. But the 40k games started to fall off pretty hard at that point and they abandoned the RTS aspects and focus of the game that the community has been wanting to see return for YEARS now.
In the 40th millennium there is no facepalm, only facebolter.
the squad explanation apothecary got me dying
I think the description of what Cyrene was probably comes from the novel by C.S. Goto, whose stuff is considered some of the worst officially licensed 40k content there is, regularly breaking canon. So not sure would I count it as canon.
Pro tip. Rhinos are very very useful, cheap and can be used to body block infantry and slaughter them
Ah so they have a use after all, good to know
The Chaos Lord model in this game always looked really cool
Excellent work playing this great game, feel free to play Ultimate Apocalypse next.
extended camera mod is a must for me, also the mods for this game go crazy
Anytime Isador speaks, I just hear Lord Garmadon from LEGO Ninjago-
You have done well my son hope you like the expansions
This is probably the most well formulated comment i have ever gotten, and i agree with all of it.
Also KANE LIVES IN DEATH!
Problem is a Games Workshop executive would have left an upper decker in the Relic bathroom when he found out they didn't make Space Marines the headline faction for the main campaign.
gotta build a stronghold, else where would you hold your strongs?
Classic! I would love to see a remastered version released.
Is that the legendary voice actor Paul Dobson? Has to be, I need to play this game.
The entirety of dawn of war could have been avoided if the eldar weren’t so cryptic.
Sounds about everything involving the eldar ever.

@@tobbe2363 its a mod ! and trust get it
I really liked Dawn of War 2; yeah it was different from Warcraft/Starcraft because there were no buildings but it was ahead of its time really, like playing a MOBA with multiple characters at once. All the negative reviews I saw were "RTS has buildings!!" but I had played that AvP RTS that I think was made by these same devs and it was the same way and wasn't just looking for another Blizzard clone. It was my first foray into the 40k franchise and it was good enough to really pull me in.
You should try the expansions. Each has its own campaign for each faction.
I Will for sure, i have heard only good things so far
Get ready for a massive diffulcty increase tho, the dlc is better then the main campain but wow its hard.
Will you also do the expansion campaigns?
Yeah, people seems to like this one so i think i Will give them a go.
@tobbe2363 I agree. I'm seeing the views for this compared to your other videos. Looks like you struck a chord here.
I only played this for the multiplayer back then. Could you also do the expanstion pack (if they have campaign mission), and as well the other 2 series....
Yeah since people apparently liked this one i Will def give them a try.
I am playing rogue trader right now on my free time and i am having a real good time with it. Though the leveling system and stuff is a bit much for my taste If im honest haha
@@tobbe2363 Yes the leveling...normally one of my favorite systems in CRPGs. Here though, it's a lot. I feel ill equipped to make a good decision during a 'dungeon' crawl and it can really break up the game flow figuring out what to take for everyone.
I feel the same way, it wouldn’t be so bad If half of the skills didn’t just buff existing skills by like 4%, right now it feels like im just picking random stuff just to get on with it.
@@tobbe2363 Yeah there are so many choices its easy to gimp characters at higher difficulties. Luckily it is fairly forgiving to respec, at least initially.
Good thing i play on normal then haha
i remember playing this game thinking this game was a generic soldier game as a kid, i was a dumbass kid
dawn of war unification is all you need.
I cant do anything but agree with everything you just Said. The only thing that was subpar was the pathfinding, the rest was pure gold.
The nostalgia ❤
There are expansions, too.
I wish for a remaster of this classicer of a game
Space Juju😂😂😂😂😂
Battlesector is my fave, very underrated
I’ll have to add it to my list then, thanks for the suggestion!
I think it’s the worst in that it makes the table top game seem like it would be a fast paced, organic kinda game, which it’s not.
3:34 i think bro is ... sad? idk man im not a man who had his plant gone

Play reunification for most up to date version
Play the Ultimate Apocolypse mod for it. It has a active comunity for multiplayer.

It was the early 2000s and running after people handtag been invented yet, it was different times back then.
Yeah it is really good, looking forward to trying out the expansions.
They couldn't see him, he was hiding behind the edge of the 4:3 screen.
That is a very common problem when you play games created for 4:3 monitors on 16:9 monitors - you can see what you (as player) should not suppose to see ;-)
GRAAAAAGHHHH😫 FOR THE EMPEROR!!!!!!!
Agent 47, is that you?
Dawn of War is what introduced me to 40k, it had memorable characters, gameplay, and also the control scheme that more or less similiar to Command and Conquer.
*As per 2024, I still play this game and never get bored (Soulstorm is kinda sucky tho)
Yeah it has been great so far i have to say.
Oh really? I have only heard positive things about it, what makes you say its kinda sucky?
@tobbe2363 From my experience at least, the Soulstorm expansion undo what makes Dark Crusade great, enjoyable, and make things unecessarily long and harder.
*(e.g n Dark Crusade, you just need to destroy enemy HQ and mission complete, but in Soulstorm you literally need to literally destroy anything before completing a mission)
Ah okey, thanks for the great answer
@tobbe2363 Sorry I forgot to mention that Dawn of War 1 had 3 expansion, first is Winter Assault, then Dark Crusade, and last is Soulstorm. While the other 2 is enjoyable on their own, Soulstorm is the "worst" because of odd choices and also kinda lack of polish.
The Adepus Reptilius killed me, that was great

I haven’t actually, are they any good?
@tobbe2363 omg bro. Ive been an rts fanatic since 9 years old. I'm 36 now. The total annihilation inspired games are literally the best rts out there. Total annihilation with the escalation mod, Supreme Commander, beyond all reason, zero k. Those will get you started. Total annihilation is like 5 bucks on steam. The escalation mod is free. The level of strategic depth in it is unparalleled.
