That's really neat to see someone defining a "jump" in a realistic way, as opposed to "an a/b/x/y press". I mean, those definitions are fine, and they make the rules simpler, but it's nice to see a jump just be... a jump. EDIT: 10:38 I'm serious, every game developer ever forgets the backwards speed cap.
I just hate when people use their own definitions to say "well I didn't mention this earlier sooo technically it's not a jump" instead of a logical "would someone call this a jump in a casual playthrough." Like using the jump button to jump higher on a spring because mario isn't doing the animation so it doesn't count? That's a jump.

Hey Ansel G! Somewhat-pro Galaxy player here, and I'm here to report that I found eleven jump saves in different levels! Here's the breakdown: Honeyhive 2: I came up with an insane solution to saving the star grab jump. Play the level just like you did before, but when you get to the tree trunk, fall down onto the intended platform. Then fall off and die. This is important later. You hit a checkpoint there, so now go up and hit the switch (which IS possible) and defeat the boss. Now, fall back down onto the Launch Star that takes you to the higher planets. This is why you died earlier: the piranha plant RESPAWNS, so you can do the tricky jump again! Then, get up on the tree trunk like before and carefully fall right on top of the now-spawned star! 1 jump saved. Beach Bowl 1: There exists a dumb, inconsistent glitch called a shore launch... the video will explain it. Anyway, do it once to break the cage, then again, but angled to fall right onto the star. (It is possible, but not pictured.) 3 jumps saved. Toy Time 2: Yep, you can make it. 1 jump saved. Star Reactor: When you crouch spin, you can bonk twice. If you bonk twice, Mario goes into a freefall state. He can grab ledges in this state, so that saves one jump on the staircase. 1 jump saved. Melty Molten 1: You can go into first-person to activate the Pull Star from far away without jumping. This also works in other levels like A Very Spooky Sprint, which makes it easier jumpless. I'm surprised you didn't know about this. 1 jump saved. Sea Slide 3: Solved with the power of crab. 1 jump saved. Space Junk 1/Space Junk Comet: It was mentioned in another comment, but here's video proof. 1 jump saved for each. Toy Time 3: There is a solution: just don't play this level! Instead, you can play Deep Dark Secret. It's easy to get to the boo in a box, but the box itself is a little tricky. You can spin-bonk to grab the nails and go off of those (not a jump by your rules), and precisely damage-boost to some spring platforms. You do need to jump one time to grab the star at the end, but that's still better than two jumps to beat Toy Time 3. Better route, 1 jump saved. The lily pad trick is very important for challenges. I’ve used it before when I tried to beat Super Mario Galaxy without power ups. There’s sometimes a chance that the lily pad will move to a side which can be very useful but also very difficult.
I’m only twelve minutes in and I’m just completely mesmerized by all of the tricks you’ve performed. I can’t even begin to imagine how you found all of these as I’ve never seen anything like it. Awesome stuff!

In Space Junk 1 you can skip the first jump by riding the gravity from the first section with backwards momentum to get straight to the pull stars after the rocket ship. You can find it by searching something along the lines of "Space Junk 1 skip"
I like the consept of Luigi collecting stars while you are too, hes actually doing something on his own adventure and you're working together like brothers would.
This guy has the biggest brain on the planet, you can tell by the way he finesses these games to avoid doing things . If he were working towards a cure for cancer we would have it in a year.
This was a fantastic video, it was really well paced and some of your ways of overcoming the challenge were really creative! My only bit of feedback is that I think it could've been more compelling if you'd turned it into more of a narrative rather than just a counter. My favourite challenge videos tend to be the ones where a goal is established early on - if you've seen CMeeCraft's "Mario Galaxy 2 with no Star Bits" video, you can really feel his resolve to fulfill his goal and the insane lengths he goes to in order to do so. Obviously "no jumps at all" wouldn't have been a viable goal here, but I think it would've been good to establish a goal early on (say, "I want to get 61 stars in less than 60 jumps") and let that drive the narrative of the video. Again, this was fantastic, I just think that change could be a step towards something even better :)

For everyone with the ironclad willpower and fortified mentality that were able to clear those two levels, you deserve a hug. I just replayed through all 120 stars as of 2 days ago and I got instantly reminded of the absolute horseshit I endured when it was out. God-f**kin-speed bois.

Small note with Pull Stars: if you're playing the 3D All-Stars version, you can grab them without jumping by using the touchscreen in Handheld Mode.

The lilypad elevator is some good ol' SM64 bullshit. I'm now convinced some of that game's source code lives on in Galaxy and maybe even Odyssey
