    I got quoted $600 for 6 hours of labor to get mine fixed after it broke off at the exact same point yours did. The place called less than an hour in of "completely disassembling the steering column" and claimed they needed to "drill the entire piece out".. as in use a drill to completely destroy it. They said there was no guarantee it the new piece would fit in (I supplied the new part). I questioned them twice trying to understand why they needed to drill the broken piece out when they were dismantling the column and didn't get a straight response. They were being extremely wishy-washy the entire time and said they could wire in a toggle switch to control my wipers in 1 speed but they would have to take it to another place. I finally got fed up with them and asked them how much it would be if we just stopped right then and they said either a $70 "diagnostic fee" or nothing. I said okay let's just stop right here and I'll come pick it up tomorrow. They called me back a little later to coordinate the pickup and I asked how much it would cost... they said I owed them $120.l because they had to do something "extra". Didn't give me any more details and said he was trying to "go easy on me". I was furious. I refused to pay them a single cent and threatened a lawsuit and they said just don't even worry about it. I got in my truck, drive it to my warehouse, and had it fixed in 10 minutes using your video. I seriously appreciate it!
    Bonus story: I texted the manager this TH-cam link and the video of my windshield wipers working 15 minutes after I picked it up.

    Exact same thing happened last week on my 89 and the lever dropped to the floorboard. I haven’t even had the chance to look into fixing it yet and I was watching random rust bucket videos because I’m bored and you happened to have just posted this video. You do the lords work by posting even what seems to be the most random of fixes. Thanks for the help!

    I definately owe you one. I never thought it would work. I took my time with the drill like you suggested and I got it out in about 15 minutes on my XJ. Saved me hours of struggling with the steering column. Thank you.

    Thank you! Our 94 4 banger YJ needed the multi wiper switch replaced. Tried to replaced from the top. Impossible. removing the steering column was easy thanks to your video. Screws in the inside pointing up held the parts together. Only way to get to it was to remove the steering column $163 switch at Oriles. The first switch we got $100, but didn't fit. There are 3 switches for the year. Of course the one I need is the most expense.. sigh.

    Ya I just had that awkward moment when I’m tried to signal left and ended up with the handle dropping to the floor board. Glad this video randomly popped up in my suggested videos!

    Crazy situation in my 95 YJ. The wand is still attached, but I cannot line up the shaft/tab/slot to remove the wand at all. Like it is seized up in there - maybe rusted or corroded in place so even when lined up, it will not budge. The wipers work marginally, but I want to install a new shaft because it is hard to get the wipers to turn on and off easily with the old wand because it is worn out. I will keep messing with it, but I may have to replace the entire switch.

    That was a horrible b---H; the wipers would just not - not stop. I had the comb in and out 6X till I saw the steel ball in the burried slot; crazy process. Stick it in and just wish for a flat side;
    Thank you all for letting me do it. Now I hope it lasts for the wipers being and staying off . at least I did not need to take the steering wheel apart. :) WE/I NEED TO NUMBER SOMTHING

    Great video, thank you! Any recomendations if I had a spur of the moment decision and super glued my old lever back in? It helf great to get me by ... but it hel a little too well now and there is chunk of it stuck in there. I see the replacement switches do not come with the actual "housing" where it is broken off, or am I not seeing that correctly? Any help would be greaty appreciated!! Thank you

    I know this is an old video, but in desperate need of assistance - my high/low beam switch is broken in the column, and I'm high-beaming everyone. Is the windshield wiper switch the correct part that I need to fix this? Also, would you happen to have any videos on how to replace it? Do you have any tips, tricks, or techniques? I've watched the signal replacement and ignition switch replacement video several times. But I haven't heard anything about replacing the wiper switch.

    The drill bit broke. Should I tear the steering column apart and replace the turn signal switch? I watched the turn signal video but didn’t see the black part where the lever fits into (where the broken piece is located. Is this a separate piece? Or is it part of the turn signal switch? Kind of lost what to do now.

    • @Poweraddicts

      Get a good bright flashlight and look up inside there. It doesn't go in very deep so it should be fairly easy to see. Good luck.
