I finally got around to doing this on my 93 YJ. Great video. The LED lights look so much better. The only thing that was a pain in the butt was getting those flashers in place underneath that dashboard.
I did a similar job on my 94 yj , tip: I took the plastic housing and gave it a thorough inside wash (a small paint brush works). THAT made a huge difference, made the leds even brighter. thanks for the flasher tip
I just had the same problem and figured out that if you do not change your 194 side markers over to LED also they will give you that problem. You can test it by just removing the 194 bulbs and then turn on the lights and try the turn signals. It solved my problem!
Hey, Chuck. Thank you so much man. This video helped me fix my flashers and turn signals, a problem I'd been trying to figure out for months! The electronic modules with the ground wires did the trick. Thank you!
Thanks man. 1994 Jeep YJ I always appreciate your videos and the time you take to go through the details. I have all LED lights and upgraded the flashers. Everything works but now I have a new problem. My LED headlights also function as a turn signal. They come on fine but once the turn signal is engaged, it stays Amber and will not turn off. Worked before. Anyway, I simply disconnected the flasher from the headlamp and I am fine without that feature. I love the brightness of the LEDs and the sleek look. Also I had no issues with the dash turn signal lights. Thank you!
Man this was super helpful! I'm dealing with my passenger side turn signals not working when my headlights are on. I have LED Taillights and this might just be the fix.
Thanks, great video! Just finished upgrading my '93 YJ to all LEDs. I didn't have to replace the flasher two years ago when I replaced my fender flares that came with LEDs, but knew I would have to when upgrading my tail lights. That said, I attempted to upgrade my front turn signals/markers first (to 1157 amber LEDs) and this also would require the flasher upgrade - the brightness is well worth this upgrade! All that said, for complete LED replacement (front side markers, front marker/turn signals, and rear tail lights), you will need to replace both the Turn Signal flasher AND the 4-Way/Hazzards flasher to the EF32RL with ground wire for the lights to work properly. And for some reason the flashers are clocked with the two prongs toward the bottom like a "V" - no biggie (once I figured it out).
Having the exact same issue with my LED upgrade once headlamps are turned on. Yet, for me when headlamps are in my signals go wonky and won't functions at all to include rear. I've upgraded my 91 YJ to LED all the way around the Jeep to include adding LED's to the side and back of the hard top. Even installed the flasher upgrade with ground wire. My research indicates the front turn signal/marker lights have a "floating" ground when using the turn signal with the headlamps in the on position. The supposed fix is as you indicated the addition of a resistor in the front turn signal wiring. I've yet to give this a go. I took the easy out and just replaced the old bulbs for the moment. Looking forward to seeing your fix!
Chuck you are the best, thanks for all of your help. Just upgraded the tail lights 87 YJ and now the stop and turn signals don't work just ordered the electronic flashers you recommended. Hopefully this will fix the problem. I check on your videos each time when upgrading or fixing the YJ
I have a 1995 Wrangler, it has a 5.3 liter Chevy motor in it, its awesome and I love it. When I bought it and when the headlights were on one of the indicator lights would show up on dash how you described is your Jeep. My jeep already had LED tail lights and Headlights. I figured it was a bad indicator bulb, I tinkered with it and it seemed like a bad connection because then it tuned on. I went and bought LED to replace both anyways. And then I had two indicator lights on my dash and they would not flash with the headlights on, with lights off they worked fine from the start. This has totally been kicking my butt, I have read everything and so many people have said check your grounds. NOT ONE person has mentioned the Electronic Flasher Module variants. WOW, I unfortunately am away right now for a few months but when I get back im going to try that, that has to be the problem considering everything is LED. Actually my side markers are not LED but they will be. Thank you so much for the video, I will owe you a case of beer if it works.. Thank You!!
Every time you work on your Jeep it makes me want one. YJ is the only wrangler I want... and they aren’t easy to find in decent shape. Time to go check Craigslist though.
Great video. I have installed the flashers above but am still having an issue. I have LED side marker lights and trying to get the LED front turn signal to work. As of now they just come on without flashing. This is with the headlights turned on and off. I'm also going to change the rear to LED's as well.
I did the led upgrade all around on my yj and figured out why you were having the dash turn signal indicator issue. As soon as you upgrade your side marker lights to led that issue goes away just figured it might help you out before you put in the diodes
I haven't messed with it yet. I'm about convinced it's a bad ground connection somewhere. I say that because some times when I hit a bump the dash lights work like they should. Then I hit another bump and they act crazy again.
Hi all. I added the LED lights to the front turn signals and both side markers. Additionally, I added the same 2 LED flashers. All works great less the following. Now, the only time the side markers blink is if the running or head lights are on. Same situation with incandescent bulbs too. That sucks.
You need to put a diode in the ground for the dash panel I’d bet. I had a similar issue in my Super duty pickup. Either way I’m interested in what you find out; LED’s are my next upgrades.
I haven't fooled with it yet but I'm really thinking it's a bad ground. Occasionally when I hit a bump the dash light act like they should. Hit another bump and they wanna act crazy again!
I bought another set of bulbs that has a built in resistor a few days ago. I'm gonna try it when I get a chance. I've tried a few different thing and still haven't gotten the results I'm after. I'm trying to find the right combination of parts instead cutting the wires and putting a diode in the circuit. I'll post a video when I find the fix. Thanks for dropping in!
Hey Chuck, Daryl here... Could you please tell me the part number on those relays with ground wire? And the part number for those tail lights the round light pattern ones? I am doing the complete led conversations on my 92 yj. I have already done hella h4 upgrades, wanna finish it. Please supply those part numbers and where you purchased them from. Thanks Chuck 👍. Keep up the great vids.
@@Poweraddicts Did the modification with full led and it's working fine, but when I turn my headlight on, not working anymore. turn signal on and no more blinking.
Question, I did the upgrade on my driverside tail light so far on my 91 YJ. However, when I turn headlights, the running lights turn on, except when I press on the brake the talight does not brighten. Everything else seems to operate fine, left blinker, hazard, and works as expected when headlights/running lights are off. Could it be a ground issue? Or maybe is it b/c passenger taillight hasn't been installed yet?
Second question I just had my shock mount break and my mechanic at Charlie's told me that the shocks were too long what is the standard size shock for a TJ 99
For the transfer case, there is no direct answer for that. It depends on how the rig is treated. If it is wheeled off road on a regular basis vs just highway driven it will need changed more often. If the rig gets wheeled in deep water it may need changed more often. As for the clutch .. I bleed it and forget it until it starts acting up. That is a sealed system it shouldn't get any contaminates in the clutch fluid system. If it does, then there is a faulty component that needs replaced.
hey, I have a 1990 Jeep yj Laredo and 1 of my Turn signals cant fully fit inside. It ends up looking goofy and hangs out further than the other one because its just a tad bit too big to fully put in so either the top or bottom of the light sticks out a bit. I'm not sure what the issue could be.
@@Poweraddicts so, I found the 2 relays on ebay, I have led bulbs in the rear brakelights and reverse lights, front turn signals have led bulbs, front headlights are led as well, it turns out that I have absolutely no issues now, everything works, display works as it should now, maybe I got lucky for once...lol
Nope, no video on those. I'll have to check to see if I have a diagram for the vacuum lines. Honestly, I trash the vacuum stuff and install Posi-Loc cables in. I'll be doing a video on installing that in the not too distant future.
The 1 for the front axle is really small and it runs from the driver's side along the firewall over to the passenger side along the firewall and down to the axle. It has a check valve in it right before it goes down on the passenger side. They usually crack and you can temporarily cut that piece out and slide a normal vacuum line over the hard stuff to see if it fixes your problem. I hope this helps!
I'm really thinking it's a bad ground. I haven't stopped long enough to concentrate on that issue yet. But occasionally I'll hit a bump and the dash lights will work as they should. I’m having an issue with the blinkers working while the headlights are on. When the headlights are off, the blinkers work, when the headlights are on, the blinkers do not and the two dash blinker lights stay on . Any suggestions?

I have seen a reverse polarity adapter for the electronic flashers (it fits on top) sold separately I wonder if it would fix this issue?
I'm not sure to be honest. I'll have to research those. Thanks for the tip to try.

I have a video coming soon that has blinkers in the headlight if that is what you are referring too.

Is there a different between the flasher and hazard plugs. Can you use the same for both of them
Do you have any clue on how to fix the center clock in the 91 and earlier YJs? I’ve only seen one ever work and thought it would be cool to have.
Mine quit working also. If I decide to fix it I'll definitely video the process.

How often do you change the fluids in the transfer case differential and clutch on a 99 Jeep TJ

Hey bud, wondering if you're planning on doing a lighting swap / upgrade to your instrumentation?
Yea, I've got the stuff to do it. Just need to squeeze the time in to get it done.
Does this eliminate the need for resistors if upgrading the rear tail lights to LED?
I didn't use any resisters on the tail lights.
These relays cover the rear taillights as well? I've seen some videos that replace another relay behind the streering wheel@@Poweraddicts

You gotta ground issue somewhere. Bad grounds are a paint to chase so just clean and reseat every lighting ground you can find.
Did you ever get this figured it out? Was it your ground? I’m having the exact issue.
Put some resistors on the lights.
That's what I've been thinking due to the resistance of the original style bulbs. I just haven't tried it yet.
Different type of relays used on the YJ 1994-95 so this is only good up to 1993
