    Thank you for making this! I just recently acquired a 94 XJ and my god these are a pain in the ass!

      You are very welcome! Yea .. they can be. But they are not as complicated as newer cars and parts are much less expensive.

    Just got my YJ back together after troubleshooting inoperative blinkers. Tacked to the switch itself. I took the wheel off, the spring plate, all the way down to the switch. Switch looked in tact, but really scummy on the contacts. So I pulled the switch apart and cleaned the contacts, blinkers work again.
    Thank God cause I wasn't looking forward to fishing all them wires down it's throat and spending money lol

    Thank you! Our 94 4 banger YJ needed the multi wiper switch replaced. Tried to replaced from the top. Impossible. removing the steering column was easy thanks to your video. Screws in the inside pointing up held the parts together. Only way to get to it was to remove the steering column $163 switch at Oriles. The first switch we got $100, but didn't fit. There are 3 switches for the year. Of course the one I need is the most expense.. sigh.

    Nice video. A few years ago I busted my turn indicator lever climbing out of the yj. Spent three weekends trying to change it out. Finally gave up and bought a used entire steering column assembly. It was expensive but a lot easier to install the whole thing than fix the turn indicator lever. Then I got some aluminum bar and fabricated a shield around the entire lever so it's impossible for my thigh/leg to ever hit the lever. My wife says it looks stupid - like a handicap bar. Don't care! This is one of those things I will never do again!

    Hi, ty for the great videos, just one suggestion, it's way easier to get the pins out and reassemble the connector at the bottom that trying to pass it all together thru the steering column.
    Cheers !

      I could see that feeding easier through the column. My ADD brain would forget what wires go where so I'd have to take pictures to make sure it goes back together properly.

    I have to figure out what wires were crossed and where. My 05 Jeep Wrangler had a auto start installed and now when I turn on my windshield wiper it triggers the blinker sound. The blinker won't work when the wipers are on🤯😳. Good to see this video! I hope y'all have a very Merry Christmas!

    Bet diy yj channel! Do you have to remove key lock ? Does the turn signal lever not have to come out? Are those little ball bearings just sitting in there ? Looks like a pain but at least you make it doable... Thanks

    Would it be a shame if it clipped and spliced those wires I'm fairly experienced with electrical but wondering if a cut them near the clip if they will just slide out with the switch

    I have a 94 YJ with a tilt column and my turn signals don’t cancel after the turn and the wipers don’t engage (new turn signal lever just spins inside the column so I’m assuming the plastic piece that engages the wiper motor is worn out)
    Now does the turn signal switch have the wiper motor switch in it as 1? Or do I need a wiper motor switch AND a turn signal switch?

      @Poweraddicts  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not yet. It is a video that I have meant to do. I just need to find a "proper" place to do it. To properly adjust headlights 20 feet of flat ground projecting on a perpendicular wall is needed. I got one place that I'm going to check soon to see if it will work. Make sure you have subscribed so you don't miss it.

    Chuck - you're the best brother. Followed this step by step - had to replace mine because brake lights on my 94 YJ quit working - 3rd brake light was working & all other lights too. It was driving me crazy trying to diagnose until some on a FB YJ page clued me in - the rear brake lights are routed through steering column turn signal switch! - Fixed - brake lights again! - Thank you !

    Oh where was this video a couple months ago!? My turn signal lever broke off in column (I used your video to extract it). I pulled one off a 1994 Cherokee (I think) but the plastic housing was a little different so we had to modify it a little. Finally got it mostly together right & had bound up the rod for the high beams somehow 😑 My steering column had some other issues anyway so I got a rebuilt column coming *eventually*. Hope you got a video for how to replace that 😁. Oh & the turn signal shaft broke again! 😡

    Just bought my first YJ yesterday, 89 Islander with a 4.2 from a Cherokee. This is a phenomenal video. I haven't worked on a Jeep in well over 10 years, so your videos are gonna be god send. Blinkers work right now, but moving the blinker handle is very stiff and feels like it's gonna break. I also don't have bright lights. My dims work, but not the brights. Does this process have anything to do with the headlights?

    • @jfisher2370
      @jfisher2370 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes & no - The part he's replacing is for turn signals BUT pause this vid around 18:40 mark - on the left - (8 o'clock position) is small black box. This is where the wiper/turn signal stem clicks in - Notice in vid a small finger protrudes out (just above triangle of plastic). That’s the dimmer lever. When you pull on the wiper/signal stem it pushes that lever down on top of a metal rod that runs down most of the length of the steering column. The rod goes to another box mounted lower on the column which is the dimmer control - 1) the lever could be gummed up 2) the rod may be binding going down the column 3) dimmer control down the column might need replaced ($35-40.) Hope that helps trouble shooting. Unfortunately if the black box under steering wheel is bad you have to take the steering column out (yeah crazy) Chrysler put the screws inside & pointing upward - You can't get to them with column in the Jeep! But if your wipers are working that's probably not the issue!

      @@lucky1867 - Are you missing the entire switch or just the signal lever? If missing lever you could try a junk yard. Easy plug & play fix & new online they range $14 to $30. BTW Chuck's got a video on getting out broken turn signal stem too. (he seems to have all the bad YJ luck - lucky for us he videos the fixes.)

      @@jfisher2370 wait, I may be looking in the wrong place. Is the wiper on the turn signal? I was looking for a twist knob on the dash left of the steering column.

    If ive followed my diagrams right, this would control my brake lights also, correct? I no longer have brakeights but i have hazard and turn signal lights. I have 12v through the brake switch and up to column, but doesnt come out with 12v to brake lights. I have it all torn apart and new part ready ro go in. Was it possible just to cut the wires near the switch, and splice wires of the new switch?

    • @Poweraddicts
      @Poweraddicts  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I guess a person could. But you gotta make sure you keep the patch spot as thin as possible because there is very little room in there. I personally wouldn't try it, too much risk of something shorting out.
